I would also like to hear from the artist (Jonathon Yeo) because this kind of portrait is his MO. And he’s done other portraits with reddish backgrounds that… don’t look like the subject burning in hellfire.
Tumblr media
The King Charles portrait is the inverse of that thing where Republicans think they’re shaming liberals and are instead making them sound super cool while somehow not realizing it.
Like, did somehow no one involved…understand how this painting comes across to most humans?

AFLCA votes, round 15: It’s becoming a race in two
The 10: round 15’s best moments Some brilliant highlights across the weekend of footy
THERE was no disputing Hawthorn ball-magnet Tom Mitchell’s impact against Collingwood on Sunday, with both Alastair Clarkson and Nathan Buckley giving the midfielder maximum votes (five each) in the AFL Coaches’ Association Player of the Year Award.
Mitchell was sensational in the Hawks’ 24-point win over the Magpies on Sunday, gathering 35 disposals, seven clearances and impacting the scoreboard with two goals.
It followed Mitchell’s other standout performance against the Magpies in round nine where he became just the seventh player to rack up 50 disposals in a match in Hawthorn’s 18-point loss to Collingwood.
It was the most disposals racked up by any Hawthorn player and just the second time a player had 50 or more touches in a losing team.
Despite the phenomenal achievement, Buckley queried whether he actually “hurt” the Magpies with his possessions and Mitchell was awarded five AFLCA votes from Clarkson and his Magpie counterpart.
But the Hawthorn onballer’s performance against the Magpies on Sunday could not be ignored.
Hawthorn’s official Twitter account took a cheeky jab at Buckley after posting a screenshot of Mitchell’s stat line and asking the Collingwood coach: ‘But did he have any impact?’
Collingwood’s Jordan De Goey picked up six votes for his team-high 32 disposals, while Ryan Burton and Daniel Howe received five votes apiece.
Every round, the AFL coaches vote for the best players from their game. The coaches vote for five players, giving them a mark from 1-5.

Fantasy form watch: Danger delivers just in time
Patrick Dangerfield saved what was looking like a middling score with a brilliant last quarter performance
WITH the bye rounds a distant memory, it was finally back to business as usual… or so we thought. Then a host of big names were omitted on Thursday night and Friday leaving many coaches scrambling just to field a team. The end result was reminiscent of the previous three weeks with bench players once again finding themselves on the ground, churning out heart wrenching 40s. Fortunately, many of the stars that did hit the field scored well… unless of course they were injured or tagged for the first time in their career.
Fantasy pig
Jack Macrae has been solid, without being outstanding until repaying the faith of his coaches with a round high 137 against the Roos, highlighted by seven marks and 10 tackles. It was great to see him back to his best, roaming the field for 32 possessions.
• Nine things we learned from round 14
Honourable mention: Patrick Dangerfield looked like he was just having an average day, sitting deep in the forward line during the last quarter for what looked like a score around 110. That is until the game was on the line and he dug deep late, carrying the Cats to victory and lifting his score to 134. Danger kicked three behinds, so wasn’t far off a thumper.
Rage trades
Heath Shaw… What can I say? In a milestone game against the Lions, the writing was on the wall that Shaw would be in line for a good score. Instead, he reminded us why he is affectionately known as Headache Heath in Fantasy circles after scoring 29 from nine possessions and just one mark. He may have to be traded out permanently after this effort.
Honourable mention: Dayne Zorko went from hero to villain this week as the dynamic onballer was faced with a very hard tag. Due to this, his stat line was uncharacteristic and well short of the huge numbers we have become accustomed to this year after collecting just five possessions (all in the first half) and thankfully laying nine tackles to get his score to 45. He is a little champ, so will bounce back but it was a frustrating one for coaches who traded him in this week.
• Around the state leagues: Who starred in your club’s twos?
Piglet
Hats off to Hugh Greenwood for getting his coaches off to an awesome start with 122 on Thursday night, but as far as downgrades go, Sean Darcy had a great game in the ruck with a whopping 40 hit-outs and 14 possessions on his way to an impressive 80.
The top five
Jack Macrae: 137
Patrick Dangerfield: 134
Marcus Bontempelli: 134
Jonathon Patton: 133
Jeremy Cameron: 132
• The run home: How the race for the finals is shaping up
Trade targets
Jake Lloyd
Isaac Heeney
Robbie Gray
Sean Darcy
Adam Treloar
• After the siren: Best weekend ever?
Fantasy mailbag
He certainly has Pig written all over him. If his form continues for the year, he will be considered next season for sure.
Yes, we need some consistency from our premium mids… So take Treloar
No, jump on. He has embraced the increased role through the middle and is still ripe for the picking.
Wait for him to drop a bit further, he will be a bargain!
I bit reactionary, but I am leaning toward Macrae by a nose over Yeo. For more, follow myself @RoyDT

GWS Giants come home strong to beat West Coast Eagles for the first time
GWS GIANTS 2.4     4.7     8.12     14.14     (98) WEST COAST 5.0     6.2     9.3     14.6     (90) GOALS – GWS: Shiel 2, Cameron 2, Patton 2, Greene 2, Lloyd, Himmelberg, Kelly, Whitfield, Taranto, Williams. West Coast: Kennedy 3, Darling 2, Jetta 2, Vardy 2, Petrie, Cripps, Hutchings, Karpany, Mitchell.  BEST – GWS: Kelly, Ward, Greene, Shiel, Williams, Kennedy. West Coast: Mitchell, McGovern, Sheed, Yeo, Gaff, Jetta. UMPIRES Nicholls, Margetts, Fleer. CROWD 37,057 at Domain Stadium.
Greater Western Sydney continue to find ways to win. Despite having up to half of their best 22 sitting on the sidelines injured, the Giants overcame another slow start and inaccuracies in front of goal, to beat West Coast by eight points.
For the third consecutive week, they came home strongly to win a thriller. The victory was also their first ever against the Eagles – on any ground. But they had to endure 13 lead change throughout the game and eight in the final term, to get there.
The result could be more significant for the Eagles’ season than a missed opportunity to grab four points against a premiership contender. Reigning Coleman medallist Josh Kennedy limped from the ground in the final term with what looked an achilles or calf injury. He was on crutches after the game.

After being well held by Giants defender Aidan Corr for a half, his two goals in the third term and a third at the start of the fourth, had the Eagles looking dangerous in attack.
The chances continued to come after he left the ground and Jack Darling, Nathan Vardy and even Sam Mitchell (who kicked his first major since round 15, 2015) chipped in to keep the game tight. Mitchell also collected 31 touches, more than 30 for the 119th time, meaning he has done so more than any other player – overtaking former St Kilda great Robert Harvey.
As Kennedy was carried off, Zac Williams kicked a goal to give the Giants the lead. From there, the Eagles missed some important shots on goal. Darling missed a sitter from a set shot and youngster Malcolm Karpany one on the run.
At the other end, Toby Greene slotted two tough late goals that proved the difference.

It was another unflattering start by the Giants though, who lost their third consecutive opening term – their only three first-quarter losses of the season. They trailed Collingwood by 26 points at quarter-time in round eight and by 31 points to Richmond last week.
They managed only two goals against the Eagles on Sunday and found themselves 14 points arrears at the first break. They came back to beat the Pies and Tigers in thrillers, each by three points. They also beat the Western Bulldogs by two points in round six.

These victories will be important as the season continues to play out.
Some of those missing Giants will eventually start to come back during the second half of the season. After losing Steve Johnson and Rory Lobb from last week’s team, the Giants were forced to withdraw Tom Scully before Sunday’s game due to knee soreness
But Dylan Shiel was able to provide the run early in the game. He kicked the first goal of the game and his second, just before half-time, brought the Eagles lead back to a manageable nine points.
In the second half Josh Kelly took control, finishing with 29 possessions. Callum Ward had 33.
In that first half, goals were difficult for GWS to find. They had 4.7 at the break and yet trailed by only seven points. They kicked 10.7 after the break, to the Eagles 8.4.
The Eagles were always going to come out firing after being embarrassed by Essendon at Etihad Stadium last weekend.
Their intent was questioned after the 61-point loss to Bombers where they fell way short of their opponent in contested football.
So it should not have surprised anyone that they led in that stat by 13 at quarter-time against the Giants.
The Eagles rang the changes during the week. The late withdrawal of Luke Shuey (calf) meant Adam Simpson had seven different players on the ground this week to last.
And some of those given second chances were notable contributors early.
Lewis Jetta has been cooling his heels in the WAFL, but looked like the old Sydney Swans speedster for the first time in a long time. He 12 touches in the first half and finished with 28 and two goals for the game.
But the Giants continued to work into the game and almost equalled the contested possession count by game’s end. It was the 56 inside-50 entries and a better result in front of goals that made the difference.

Draftstars round five cheat sheet
IT HAS been a quick turnover from round four to five, so in case you haven’t kept track of all the happenings, we’re here to help.
Here is AFL.com.au‘s Draftstars cheat sheet for the weekend, with all the best players you must consider for your daily fantasy success. For more information visit draftstars.com.au.
Port Adelaide v Carlton, Adelaide Oval, Friday night
It wasn’t a great round of Draftstars scoring for Port Adelaide last week in its loss to Greater Western Sydney, with Brad Ebert (MID, $13,700) leading with 96 points. Jasper Pittard (DEF, $12,650) was next with 89 points – his average for the year –  while Ollie Wines (MID, $15,400) lowered his colours for the first time of the year with 82 points.
Wines is still worth your money given his average of 108 points a game so far in 2017, and Dan Houston (FWD, $8000) continues to impress, showing he can pick up disposals comfortably. He has found a role in Port’s defence, so his job security appears strong.
Port Adelaide will be intent on stopping Marc Murphy (MID, $16,400), but given the form the Carlton skipper is in, it seems a hard task. Murphy is the man you must try to fit into your Draftstars line-up. He’s the competition’s leading scorer with an average of 133 points in the opening four rounds.
Sam Docherty (DEF, $15,150) doesn’t come cheap, but has scored 90 or more every week and is a great pick for your defence, while first-gamer Zac Fisher (MID, $7600) impressed last week with 67 points on debut. Coaches will be tempted to throw him in as a last-picked midfielder given his lowly price.
Western Bulldogs v Brisbane Lions, Etihad Stadium, Saturday
With an average of 94 points a game, Lachie Hunter (MID, $15,350) rarely has a quiet day at the office. But the premiership midfielder only gathered 69 points in last week’s win over North Melbourne – a low total for a player of his quality. Watch for a huge game against the Lions on Saturday.
Liam Picken (MID, $13,500) has become one of the most popular players in the competition, but he’s still a relatively unique Draftstars choice. He scored 100 last round and has averaged 84 for the year, so is worth thinking about in your midfield at a slightly lower cost. In his 300th game, Bob Murphy (DEF, $12,400) will be a sentimental choice for many, and comes in at reasonable value with a solid average so far this season.
Tom Rockliff (MID, $17,500) and Dayne Zorko (MID, $16,250) top the list of Brisbane players you have to consider. The pair sit inside the top seven scorers in the competition so far this season, so you can’t lose by choosing them.
If you’re looking for a Lion who might not be in everyone else’s thoughts, then Mitch Robinson (FWD/MID, $13,300) could be your man after a terrific 29-disposal, one-goal and 122-point game against Richmond last week. His dual-position status offers some versatility too.
Gold Coast v Adelaide, Metricon Stadium, Saturday
Hands up those who doubted Gary Ablett (MID, $15,450)? The superstar midfielder has hit back from a slow start to the season with back-to-back centuries in the Suns’ consecutive wins. His average is now a more-than-acceptable 108 points.
If you’re looking for a cheaper Suns midfield option, then Jarryd Lyons (FWD/MID, $13,850) could be it. The ex-Adelaide midfielder is backing up his career-best season in 2016 with a strong start at the Suns and is averaging 91.5. Brandon Matera (FWD, $14,200) is also red-hot, having picked up 245 points in his first two games of the season. He looks the real deal this year.
Adelaide star Rory Sloane (MID, $16,350) ranks fourth in the AFL for Draftstars points so must get a look, while Adelaide’s group of forwards – Taylor Walker (FWD, $12,350), Eddie Betts (FWD, $12,450) and Tom Lynch (FWD, $13,700) – pose a big threat to the Suns if they get a run on.
Adelaide’s list of Draftstars options is deep. Rory Atkins (MID, $11,950) and Matt Crouch (MID, $14,350) are a peg or two down from the aforementioned but still can score, while Charlie Cameron (FWD, $10,900) has come into his own this season with more midfield time. His average of 87 points is appealing.
Sydney v Greater Western Sydney, SCG, Saturday night
Few would have tipped Jake Lloyd (MID, $13,850) to be the Swans’ leading point scorer so far this season. But then again, few would have thought Sydney would be winless, too. Lloyd is a nice and relatively unique choice with an average of 104 points.
In some cases it might be best to steer clear of the best Swans until they hit top form again. Luke Parker (MID, $15,900) and Dan Hannebery (MID, $15,600) have had slow starts to their respective campaigns, although Josh Kennedy’s (MID, $16,000) form has stood up. An emerging, cheaper option could be George Hewett (MID, $9650), who picked up the slack with 86 points last week against West Coast.
The tip from this game: go big on your Giants. Josh Kelly (MID, $14,350) has pieced consecutive best-on-ground games together and is averaging 110. He’s a premium price but an A-Grade player. Dylan Shiel (MID, $14,850) gathered 112 points last week, and Toby Greene (FWD/MID, $13,850) consistently hits a score above 85, which is more than solid for a forward pick.
We also saw Shane Mumford (RK, $13,100) reach triple figures for the first time, and he might go well against a weakened Swans ruck department. Be wary of choosing Jonathon Patton (FWD, $9800) on the back of his six-goal haul last week against the Power. His previous effort, in round one, was just 46 points and he’s not generally been a big Draftstars scorer in the past.
Fremantle v North Melbourne, Domain Stadium, Saturday night
Former Giant Cam McCarthy (FWD, $7600) produced his best game so far for the Dockers in their win over Melbourne last week, kicking two goals from 20 disposals and bringing in 96 Draftstars points. Can he replicate it against North? Perhaps. He’s cheap enough to take a gamble on.
There’s less of a gamble in choosing Lachie Neale (MID, $16,250), David Mundy (MID, $14,250) or Nat Fyfe (MID, $15,500). Neale led the way with 119 points last week, working brilliantly with Aaron Sandilands (RK, $12,000), who scored 95 in the best game of his year as well. Lachie Weller’s (MID, $10,100) 83-point effort was also the best of his season.
It’s been an iffy start to the year for Todd Goldstein (RK, $14,350), once a Draftstars lock in the ruck, but he hit form with 112 points last week. Ben Cunnington (MID, $12,550) was also superb through the midfield, picking up 111 points to lift his season average to 95 points.
For a lower-profile Kangaroos option, Ben Brown (FWD, $10,450) scored 90 points last week and has averaged 72 across the season. He won’t be the type to be your line-up’s match-winner, but given you need to fill nine spots in your ‘salary’ format with a cap of $100,000, Brown could be reasonable value.
St Kilda v Geelong, Etihad Stadium, Sunday
We hope you listened when we said last week that Dylan Roberton (DEF, $11,600) was flying, because his 134-point score against Collingwood suggests he’s not slowing down.
The Saints loaded up against the Pies, but among the familiar faces was Jack Billings (FWD, $12,500), who picked up 119 points – well above his season average of 75. If he had have kicked straight in front of goal it would have helped him to be his team’s best scorer. Jack Newnes (MID, $13,700) also collected 123 points, and is a rare pick.
Step aside ‘Dangerwood’, because it was another Geelong midfield duo who took the limelight last week for the Cats. Steven Motlop (FWD/MID, $12,650) found 125 points and Mitch Duncan (MID, $14,850) had 113, making for the Cats to be very hard to stop. Both are far less popular with Draftstars coaches than Patrick Dangerfield (MID, $17,350) and Joel Selwood (MID, $15,750), so could give your team an advantage if they continue their form.
Tom Hawkins’ (FWD, $11,950) season has flown under the radar, but he is the Cats’ fourth-leading points-scorer for the season and has booted 16 goals. He’s back to his best and should be in your thoughts as a forward given his 90-point average.
Hawthorn v West Coast, MCG, Sunday
For all the talk about Hawthorn’s radical list management, its leading scorer so far this season is recruit Tom Mitchell (MID, $16,300), so that is at least one big tick. He’s averaging 123 points a game and is a genuine ball magnet.
There hasn’t been a lot else to love about the Hawks. Isaac Smith (MID, $13,900) is the only other Hawk to average more than 90, although former Crow Ricky Henderson (MID/DEF, $12,500) has been a solid choice in defender with an average of 85.
There’s plenty to like for the Eagles. Luke Shuey (MID, $15,450) is red-hot, Andrew Gaff (MID, $14,850) continues at a brilliant pace, and Elliot Yeo (FWD/MID, $13,150) is back to his best form. All are averaging more than 100 so far this season and are almost guaranteed to bring in big scores. But can they turn it on at the ‘G, where the Eagles have struggled?
Richmond v Melbourne, MCG, Monday night
It was an unusual statistical game from the Tigers last week, with only Shaun Grigg (MID, $14,550) posting a triple-figure score. That’s not rare for him given his 95-point average, but it came after a quieter couple of rounds before.
Dustin Martin (FWD/MID, $16,100) was quiet with just 63 points, as was captain Trent Cotchin (MID, $14,750) with only 70 against the Lions. Still, the Tigers did it easy and it’s got us looking at some of their next-tier Draftstars players. Jason Castagna (DEF, $8650) has been excellent so far this season and pulled in 92 points last week playing as an attacking, quick half-forward. He’s reasonable value and in good form off the back of 98 the previous week.
It was good to see Dom Tyson (MID, $14,600) back to his best last week against Fremantle for the Dees. His pre-season was hindered by injury but he knocked out 116 points last week and his average has built to 107. Other Melbourne midfielders, like Clayton Oliver (MID, $13,900) and Jack Viney (MID, $15,000), are far more regular selections, but Tyson could be a unique pick.
Alex Neal-Bullen (FWD/MID, $11,750) is in the middle of a purple patch, ranked inside the top 40 players in the competition, and better yet you can pick him as a forward or midfielder. Tomas Bugg (DEF, $11,850) might also be called upon in a tagging role and gathered 78 points last week.
Essendon v Collingwood, MCG, Tuesday
Two Bombers hit better Draftstars form in last week’s loss to Adelaide. David Zaharakis (MID, $14,150) and Travis Colyer (FWD, $10,500) both registered season-best scores, with 111 and 124 points respectively. So far their form has been patchy so pick with caution, but they appear on the way up.
Zach Merrett (MID, $17,500) continued his reliable form with a team-high 134 points and he’s worth every dollar, while Brendon Goddard’s (MID, $15,350) season has been underrated. Formerly a Draftstars mainstay, Goddard isn’t as popular any more, but is averaging 114 points this year.
The Pies’ midfield has tormented Essendon in recent Anzac Day clashes, so choosing one or more of them wouldn’t be your worst Draftstars decision. Steele Sidebottom (MID, $15,650) is on fire, and Scott Pendlebury (MID, $16,000) has also lit up the big stage.
Jeremy Howe (FWD/DEF, $12,750) has been perhaps one of the best Collingwood players this season and is in form after 108 points last week, while Brodie Grundy (RK, $15,550) shapes as a big threat to the Bombers. Grundy is the best scoring ruckman in the competition with an average of 118. He would be a smart choice to bring home your Draftstars team with a big Tuesday afternoon.

Kelly’s Giant gang cruises past young Eagles
GREATER Western Sydney’s 2016 draft crop, along with gun forward Jonathon Patton, have given fans plenty to be excited about in a scrappy 33-point win over West Coast in the Giants’ opening game of the JLT Community Series.
Patton finished the game with three goals, while fellow tall target Rory Lobb also gave the West Coast defenders plenty of headaches.
Stand-in captain Josh Kelly led the Giants from the front with 28 classy disposals.
The Giants’ first two selections at last year’s NAB AFL Draft, Tim Taranto and Will Setterfield, were impressive especially in the first half, with Taranto very busy up forward with stints through the midfield, and Setterfield a tireless runner on the wing.
Full match coverage and stats
The pair combined for 14 possessions in the first term when the Giants dominated the game, winning the inside 50 count 15-2 and kicking four goals to one for the quarter, and finished with 37 for the day.
GWS coach Leon Cameron said the performance of his younger players gave him plenty to think about.
“It puts pressure on our guys sitting at home, and the good thing about it is there was probably 10-12 guys that put their hands up to say ‘have a look at me’, so that was the real pleasing thing,” he said.
“There’s a lot of experimenting going on in this series, and we use this as preparation, but I’m mindful that the real stuff starts in four or five weeks.”
The Eagles had few winners but midfielders Mark Hutchings, Sharrod Wellingham and Dom Sheed found plenty of the ball, and rookie Francis Watson was creative in defence.
Eagles coach Adam Simpson remained positive despite the loss.
“We got jumped early with the pressure, but I thought in the second and third quarters we probably had our noses in front,” he said.
“At the end of the day the weight of numbers and not much up forward to kick too hurt us, but we were a young side.”
Eagles defender Will Schofield rolled his left ankle during the third quarter, ending his day early, and Simpson said the hard-running defender’s prognosis was unclear.
“(He) just tweaked his ankle. I’m not sure how he pulled up. It was bad enough not to come back on, but I’m not quite sure how bad,” he said.
Field umpire Eleni Glouftsis continued her development as part of the three-umpire team in Narrandera, after making her debut during the pre-season competition last year.
The South Australian umpired in the VFL in 2016 as one of 12 rookies on the AFL panel, and was also used on the bench at AFL matches as a potential injury replacement.
WHAT WE LEARNED Greater Western Sydney: The Giants’ depth is as scary as their reputation. Both teams had just six players from their finals losses to the Western Bulldogs in their line-up, but it was no surprise that GWS had far more talent across the ground in their fringe players and draftees, ensuring Leon Cameron will have some positive selection headaches again this season.
West Coast: Nathan Vardy could be a handy acquisition in the ruck if he can stay on the park. The former Geelong big man had a good tustle with Dawson Simpson and Tom Downie, and finished with an equal game-high 27 hit outs with Simpson. The athletic Eagle covered plenty of territory and with Nic Naitanui out long term, and Scott Lycett also recovering from knee surgery, Vardy might prove very useful.
NEW FACES Greater Western Sydney: Will Setterfield started brilliantly with seven disposals in the first quarter on a wing, with Tim Taranto finding plenty of footy playing as a permanent forward. Lachlan Tiziani was lively early inside 50 and kicked the opening goal of the game, with Harry Perryman and Isaac Cumming showing some good signs across half back, and Jeremy Finlayson solid playing as a tall wingman. Rookie Zach Sproule didn’t look out of place up forward, and hometown boy Matt Flynn provided a strong target up forward, but struggled to get his hands on the footy.
West Coast: It wasn’t a pretty day for the Eagles’ youngsters, with rookie Francis Watson, Luke Partington and Kurt Mutimer the best of the bunch. Rookies Tom Gorter, Jordan Snadden and Tarir Bayok showed some potential, while Josh Rotham and Paddy Brophy sat out the first half and had minimal impact in the second.
NEXT UP The Giants have a week off before they take on the Swans in a Sydney Derby at Blacktown on March 3rd, while the Eagles have to back up next Saturday in a Western Derby clash with Fremantle in Geraldton.
