DATING ADA WONG HEADCANNONS — SFW
PAIRING: Ada Wong x GN!Reader
A/N: I’ve probably done a terrible job of characterising Ada, but she’s just so hot and cool (and there’s like no material on her) that I had to do something for her. Let me know if you’re interested in me doing more for her!
Being in a relationship with Ada Wong is by no means an easy feat. This woman is an enigma, and a relationship with her is no different.
The most you could get out of her is potentially an on-and-off type of deal. But if you’re willing to put in the work, then you’ll just have to cope with occasional long distance.
Her love language is along the lines of acts of service. Maybe not in the traditional sense of 'doing the laundry for you', but as we see in her interactions with Leon, she swoops in to save and assist him very often. It's her own kind of affection—it's how we know she cares. So naturally, that would carry across to you.
She has the ability to make you feel like the only person in the world. This is because when Ada does something for you, it’s not out of the kindness of her heart. This woman is a a spy who has and will work for very bad people. So anything that she says, gives or does, is because she wants to—because she cares.
At first, her intense eyes and sultry voice were an intimidating factor about her. But they eventually became some of her most comforting traits.
Ada doesn't use many pet names for you because a good majority of them make her cringe.
However, in an ironic way, she'll address you as 'Sweetheart', 'Kitten', or 'Lover'. In spite of her saying these names out of wry, her voice makes them sound cute. (Referring to VA’s; Sally Cahill, Jolene Anderson, Courtenay Taylor)
If you’re normal—as in you’re not a spy or an agent of any sort—then it’ll essentially be a "living a double life" scenario.
Ada was upfront with you from the beginning about how “busy” her schedule would be. She simply told you that she moves around for work, that the company she works for has strict confidentiality rules, and that thats all you need to know.
While it stings you to know that there's a whole portion of her life that you're absent from, you couldn’t fault her for something she was upfront about.
Getting Ada to open up to you will take time, that’s just a no brainer. As a spy, it goes against her very instincts. So when you first started seeing her, lots of what she told you about herself was fabrication woven with hints of truth.
Ada is the type of person who makes you feel as if she’s opening up to you, when in reality, questions about her background are met with vague responses.
Yet she speaks so charismatically that it makes you believe that she’s sharing more then what she really is.
She’s blunt and outspoken, so if you’re acting jealous then she’ll call you out on it immediately.
While on the jealousy topic, Ada doesn’t really get hit with these feelings. She’s confident in herself and your relationship, which clears up any potential insecurity that could give way to try one feelings. She trusts you enough to believe you wouldn’t do anything like that.
That’s not to say that she’s immune to jealousy, because there are definitely times where she can’t help but feel it swell in her gut.
And if you’re wanting to spice things up in your NSFW life with the presence of others, then she’s happy to discuss it. (Let me know if you want headcannons dedicated to NSFW)
She’s not someone who runs from arguments or conflict, she faces it head on. If there’s any tension in your relationship, you best believe she’ll address it.
If you’re being cold and distant, she’ll force you to sit down and talk to her about what’s bothering you. And when I say force, I mean by any means necessary.
Ada is very protective over you. So if she finds out that somebody’s hurt you? Then she will find out who it was, and she will eliminate them—as well as whoever else she needs to—in order to bring her own brand of justice. Zero fucks given.
If your relationship stands the test of time, there will be a point where she realises that may end up being a permanent fixture in her relatively unstable life.
This will potentially lead to Ada coming clean about who she really is and opening up to you. A very big step for her. One that only comes if you’re in a serious enough relationship.

You know, I know that she was dubbed over (by Sally Cahill, og Ada Wong) because her (Li BingBing’s) accent was “too strong.”
But she sounds really good here. People need to realize that she had to learn English and she sounds really amazing all things considered. It’s kind of a shame that she was dubbed over. I can understand that there were some parts of words that seemed off, and it was clear that she was not a native english speaker. And most people would be able to tell that she can not speak english fully. Although Li BingBing nailed the look of Ada Wong, I can see that maybe they could’ve casted someone else just as good who was also a native english speaker.
I think she still did really well considering the fact that she had to learn English. And a lot of her sentences come off very naturally. But i can completely hear the parts where she struggles. She still has to think in (mandarin) and then translate it into english and then say it with the right accent.
I guess the idea of Ada Wong being “properly” represented by also an Asian voice actress was always a point that we needed to get to eventually.
Lily Gao isn’t a “diversity hire,” in the way that people think that it is.
This is representation. This is a female character who has ALWAYS been portrayed as asian and was always casted by white women. Going so far as to have her face modelled after white women as well.
when you are speaking from a white person’s perspective (and living in a predominantly white area), you will NEVER understand what it’s like to grow up knowing that you are different and look different and sound different.
As an asian woman myself, it’s so disheartening to see that the smallest amount of representation in resident evil (considering that Jill Valentine is entirely white washed at this point) is SUCH A HARD PILL TO SWALLOW FOR SOME PEOPLE. like GOD FORBID we have Ada, an asian woman, FINALLY be voiced by an asian woman. AND DON’T BE A FUCKING DUNCE. we KNOW that she’s voiced by a japanese woman for the japanese version etc. chinese for the chinese version etc. get out of my face with the whataboutism
We’re talking about the english version of the game which has systematically always erased a part of Ada’s asian background. Either by having her be voiced by a white woman, or a having her face modelled after a white woman.
Now we’re not shaming these women at all. I love a lot of the actresses who have portrayed Ada. They all did splendid jobs and have varying degrees of fans for each one. Some love Sally, some love Courtenay, some love Lily, some love Jolene. I’m not the hugest fan of Sally’s campiness but I’ve grown to love it. Courtenay was so smooth and sexy, but sometimes even too sexy for sentences that should’ve been normal sounding imo. Lily was cold (which makes sense for her character) but so expressive at times. Jolene had a rasp that I wasn’t a fan of, but her scenes with Leon were so tender and sweet. That’s all fine and good. We’re free to have our opinions about that
THIS WAS A HUGE RANT ABOUT REPRESENTATION AND ADA LOL SORRY

PERSONALITY
Noemi is a relaxed yet dutiful woman. She is a skilled marksman, spy, and tactician during her years in the military. Outside from work, Noemi can be seen as a laid-back person who is likely to spend time with her family and friends. Unlike her aunt Estrellita, she doesn't get easily irritated unless if she is in a bad situation that needs to have a solution ASAP. She tends to get a bit stressed when the problem escalates worse than before but she is not the type of person to give up that easily. Despite her relaxed persona, she was considered as brutal when it comes to taking down her enemies in cold blood with a single and precise kill with her chosen weapon but she won't let her emotions get the best of her judgment.
BIOGRAPHY
Born and raised in a military family, Noemi dreams to be a soldier just like her father, but it's not just about getting into the ranks and being recognized by everyone for being part of the military. At a young age, Noemi was one of the smartest students on her school despite being called to the guidance office from getting into trouble with her bullies. Her father, Ramon, was her inspiration to be a soldier. But her father didn't want her to pursue that dream, instead he wants her to be a nurse. Both her parents disagreed with Noemi becoming a soldier, even her own aunt Estrellita didn't liked the idea of her being sent to the battlefield as they feared that she will end up dead or get PTSD just like her two uncles from her father's side who tends to experience PTSD and are undergoing therapy sessions. Noemi disregarded these and continued her studies until she finished high school and proceeds to enter a military academy. At first she struggles the harsh treatment from her seniors as secretly gets beaten up away from prying eyes and yet, she persevered until she reaches the finish line. Graduation.
After graduating from the military academy, she joins the Armed Forces of the Philippines for a year before joining the Philippine Scout Rangers. During the 6-month rigorous training, Noemi struggled from the first 3 months of her training but she continues to strive hard until she finishes the training, receiving the Philippine Scout Ranger Qualification Badge. In 2013, she was sent to Zamboanga to deal with the Moro rebels with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant together with her fellow soldiers during the crisis. Through out the twenty days of combat, Noemi was finally enlightened and realized why her family didn't want her to be a soldier like her father. The gruesome scenes of seeing her allies KIA or wounded was etched onto her memory. Around 2015, she met Captain Arnulfo Gadaza from the Philippine Light Reaction Regiment as he suggested her to join the LRR. Curious, she joins the LRR and was trained by American soldiers as their trainers. Both Arnul and Noemi formed a bond together inside the camp as they mostly spend time with each other by walking around the area, talking with one another. Everything changed when she and Arnul got in a situation with the terrorists during the Battle of Marawi in 2016 to 2017. Arnul was shot on the neck by a sniper, causing Noemi to panick and drag his body somewhere safe.
Devastated and angered from the loss of her friend and mentor, Noemi took matters into her own hands. She killed any terrorists she could lay eyes on with he use of her sniper and used stealth to take down her enemies that are closed by. This made her earn the nickname "Soro" which means fox in Filipino. She was portrayed as a fox who sneaks her way to hunt down her target. After the battle, she was now promoted to Captain until in 2018, she retires from the regiment to take her mind off from the horrors that she have dealt with for all these years. In 2019, she receives a call from Estrellita about becoming an associate to Task Force 141 under Kate Laswell's request since Estrellita is a former CIA Agent. Noemi was reluctant from the offer as she is worried for her mental health and also for her family. With no other choice, she accepts the offer and went ahead to meet Laswell. As of now, she is an associate member of TF141 as she continues to serve on the task force together with the other members.

Hi! I love your blog so much, it's super insightful! I'm a newer re fan that's only played re2make and re4make, and i really enjoy reading your meta analysis on the characters. I do have a question regarding Adas character that kind of confused me though, I was wondering if you would have an answer since I couldn't really find any people that shared my thoughts. imo she feels like a different character in 2 compared to 4. when I first played 2, i really liked her. But after playing 4, it feels like she's a different person almost? and I didn't enjoy her character like I did in re2. Is there an explanation for why she just feels like a completely different character? I'm wondering if it's just my imagination or I just don't get her character, but playing through re2 again, she feels like a whole different person than re4 ada. Like, I know it's been 6 years from re2 to re4, but it still feels very jarring somehow and I'm not sure why
there are three big reasons. two of them are easy to understand, and one of them requires a long-winded nerd answer.
her voice is throwing you off. jolene andersen puts a lot of energy behind her voice and there's a real bite to her delivery. lily gao is much more subdued and low-key. but compare how ada sounds in the tram scene specifically to RE4make ada, since she talks with a much softer, calmer tone in that scene, and you'll find they start to sound more similar.
for 90% of RE2make, ada is playing a character. so, in that sense, she is a different person. the "real" ada only comes out in scenes where she's vulnerable, like the waste disposal scene where leon patches up her leg, and also at the very end when he confronts her and she just drops her mask. in RE4make, she is her authentic self with all pretenses stripped away the whole way through.
and number 3...
RE4make is a remake of RE4, which is a game that was developed under extreme duress and went through several different iterations (one became devil may cry, one became haunting ground, and two others were scrapped) over the course of its development. the plan for ada's character post-RE3 was very different from how shinji mikami and his team used her for RE4, because the story for the final version of RE4 was written in three weeks after most of the game had already been built.
basically, they needed some justification for calling the game resident evil, so they thought to tie in wesker, and ada was the perfect conduit between leon and wesker. so they just threw her in there as a femme fatale, ignoring her character development in RE2, because she was there to serve a function and not be a well-thought-out character. for more on RE4 OG's troubled development, click here.
capcom did their best to make RE4make feel like a direct sequel to RE2make, but they also had to stay beholden to the original game. and that, unfortunately, involved femme fatale ada. so basically, like
they did their best, man. they tried.
if you REALLY want to be jarred, check out the difference between OG RE2 ada and OG RE4 ada. holy goddamn hell. and leon wasn't much better.

i've been obsessed with re4 remake's post credits scene . . like holy fuck capcom literally just simultanously confirmed & deconfirmed re5 remake [spoilers below]
ok for one thing this is easily the best ada moment in the entire game. one of my fav things abt re2 remake is that it gave ada some actual personality and made her a real character with actual depth
buuut in re4r, she's just as flat as she ever was, and her voice acting really doesn't help
don't get me wrong, i think it's fucking stupid that ppl are harassing lily gao; no matter how good or bad a performer does, they do not deserve to be harassed for their performance
buuut at the same time, i rlly don't care for lily's performance . it's very bland and it lacks the emotion of jolene andersen's performance in re2r, which gave ada a HUGE amount of real depth as a character in that game
most of lily's lines kind of fall flat for me, they're all delivered so awkwardly & almost robotically
BUT. in the post-credits scene, lily's performance was actually pretty damn great - partially because of how uncharacteristically for this game well-written ada is here
for once, ada feels like a real character, not to mention an actual person, whereas in the rest of the game, she really feels more like a walking plot device than anything
but, let's not forget the other character in this scene - albert fucking wesker finally shows his face in the remakes. ohhhhh my god. i was genuinely squirming in my chair when he came on screen and doing my best to hold in squeaks of joy
it's WESKER!! the highlight of resident evil 5!! the best villain in the entire series!! he's HERE!!!!!!!
when i first saw the scene i was like . "holy shit. they're DEFINITELY remaking re5." because how could they give us just a taste of wesker's sweet sweet villainy without planning on giving us more?
well, then it hit me. if ada doesn't bring wesker the plaga sample, doesn't that mean re5 literally can't happen? was this capcom's way of saying they're not remaking re5? and i mean, it would make sense for them not to, since re5 is one of the most universally disliked games across the series... so is resident evil 4 truly the last remake?
on the other hand, re5 could actually benefit from a remake. the original re4 is a great game that has aged exceptionally well, and really, despite how well its remake turned out, it didn't need a remake. but, re5 is a game with pleeeenty of flaws, and honestly, a ground-up reimagining is just the thing re5 needs to be potentially an actually good game. capcom knows that re5 & 6 have issues, which is why they immediately shifted back to survival horror after the (deserved) terrible reception of resident evil 6. so, they might also realise the potential value in a remake of re5, and recognise that they could potentially do the game justice with one.
personally, i think an re5 remake is extremely unlikely. i sure as shit wouldn't hold my breath for it. but, at the same time, i think it could certainly be done, and that it'd be worth both capcom & the fandom's time. re5 has the heart of a good game, but it's dragged down by its tone, writing, lack of horror, and its age. a remake could be worth it, i feel!

Okay so I just beat REmake 4.
Here's a few quick thoughts
The introduction to the village is excellent and sets a perfect tone
Gameplay tweaks as well as the original's formula that is still used still work great. The REmake combat system is pretty tight, although it took me until the island to actually master the knife parrying system, mostly for the Krauser battles.
The treasure hunting is addictive, I got almost everything except some damn treasures in the village, I'm still mad! The shooting range minigame was EXCELLENT, I did not expect to be so immersed in it, I even actually sat down and got an S ranking on every single game! It actually helped me improve my aiming skills for the actual part of the game.
The graphics look amazing and the game makes great use of the PS5's DualSense controller.
I've said this before and I'll say it again; I'm glad the game is still camp as fuck. Yes, it's not as much as the original but it's also definitely not as depressing, grounded and soulless as, literally, almost every other narrative-driven modern game out there. This is so fucking refreshing to experience and I hope it starts a new trend of going back to cheesiness and camp as an alternative to all these non-entertaining but highly-applauded, for some bizarre reason, alternatives.
The Castle looks AMAZING, definitely my favourite area.
Leon, Ashley and of course The Merchant stole the show. Every scene they were in and saying their silly shit was entertaining. Leon's "swallow me whole" and the Merchant's "size matters... Or so they say, right" in particular got me so good 🤣
Krauser and Rámon were also done pretty well I think. Their actors did an amazing job. Krauser has more of a backstory this time and feels more like an actual person and not like a boss fight. Ramón himself looks more unhinged than ever, and both through documents by his caretakers as well as his quotes towards Leon during their battle we are able to see how the comments and treatment he received about his appearance actively influenced his hatred for the world and people. I think this is a very understated detail that adds a lot of depth to Ramón that I've seen no one talk about so far.
I know Luis is everyone's new bae and all, and that's great, but I honestly don't see the appeal. He's uglier than before, he's more annoying than before and he stays longer than before so nah, it's a no from me. They attempted to give him a bit of a backstory this time around but, ultimately, it's not impactful at all. He was also very unhelpful during the mine segment. I felt like he mostly just sat around and did nothing. He was pretty useful in the hut though and the el gigantes fight and he had a few good one liners, I'll give him that!
One thing that is present in the other two remakes as well but is especially annoying and noticeable in this one, is that when you move from one area to another, the lighting effects drastically change. It's like you change filters on an Instagram post or something lol
A little disappointed that Capcom is selling extra treasures and weapon upgrades as DLC again, and even more disappointed that they'll, probably, sell Ada's campaign as DLC... Hopefully that means they're gonna expand upon it though so at least we'll get more Ada. Hopefully...
Speaking of Ada, Lily Gao's performance was fine? Y'all are pathetic and miserable human beings for bullying her off the internet. Honestly. Is she my favourite Ada so far? No, I think Jolene Andersen is the definitive take on the character for me, but Lily gave a completely different approach to the character and, given how the whole concept of her dynamic with Leon is that they have both changed in certain ways after the Raccoon City Incident, it makes perfect sense? The previously innocent and inexperienced Leon is now hardened and cynical. The previously more emotional and alluring Ada is now more "matter-of-fact" and cold.
Overall I am very happy with the game and plan to instantly replay it. Nothing more that I can say.
Just buy it so Capcom can REmake more and get more of our money. I love capitalism

I know they had a white face model (Ty Brenneman) for Ada in 6 (idk if it’s because I’m Asian but and it’s so painfully obvious to me despite Capcom trying to adjust the features, I’ve seen others say she looks Asian to them and I don’t know how bc all I see is a white woman lol personally that always prevents me from ranking re6 Ada too high against her other versions) so I don’t think the face capture was necessarily to be modeled after the VA, maybe the face capture was mainly for the lip and facial capture while she recorded her lines so it was easier for the devs to put into the game? Though I have seen people say Capcom tries to hire the VAs these days to match face shape/features of their face model, but not sure how true that is.
For Damnation I don’t think that was done since Jolene Andersen was the mocap for the Damnation and she also did the body and face mocap separately while Courtney Taylor provided the VA separately. Jolene talks about it in one of her interviews on YT but can’t remember exactly which one, the crimson head one I think. (I think in the same interview, super insightful overall, she even shines light in the scene where Leon comes to save her and she says “I can’t get it out”, while quick & short, was super vulnerable for Ada to even say in front of Leon that the director made them run through that scene many times in different ways to get it emotionally correct!) From what I also remember, she found out and went to the audition on her own, but does think that when Capcom saw that she had previous experience doing the mocap for Ada in Damnation it could’ve helped land her the role in RE2R. The face shapes of Damnation and RE2R are so different so that’s why I’m kinda doubtful that the VAs/mocappers are at all referenced.
yes so i have a bit of information about this because it was a hyperfixation for a while
so yes, generally when you have a mocap artist and a face model, you need that person to have similar enough face features as you're essentially "painting," the face model onto the mocap model. this is why generally some larger games will tend to hire actors to do the mocap work as well as it's much easier to paint a face that is the exact same as the mocap model.
this is also why games like detroit become human (regardless of what you think of the plot lol) is graphically amazing. the faces match the mocap actors because they ARE the face models. this isn't always necessarily done as we clearly know, but having the same for both always makes the realism better as the mouth and facial movements are the same.
in the case of leon and re4r, it's likely that the face model (who we don't name because he generally left the internet because of how the resident evil fans were harassing him) was used for re2r leon and was slightly altered as he's not super similar to his face model. (i'm taking slight alterations to his features, and his body are not similar at all.) leon in re4r seems to have aged, but i do wonder if they opted some of nick apostolides' features to allow more smooth animations
the one thing i've noticed is that the mocap actors for ada have been consistently much taller than her canon height which is usually described to be 5'7. jolene and lily both tower over nick (Leon's mocap/va) and Nick was even unsure of the fact that he would get the role as he was potentially too short to play the role of Leon.
This makes me think that they had to drastically size down Ada for their scenes together.
(Though I have seen people say Capcom tries to hire the VAs these days to match face shape/features of their face model, but not sure how true that is.) This is absolutely true as a potential reason why certain actors are hired. But it's not always necessarily the case.
I still have a special place in my heart for re6 ada, but i agree because of her face model being predominantly white features, i can't rank it super high.
yes i believe because jolene had already done stunt work and mocap work, it helped to secure her role as ada in re2r.
(The face shapes of Damnation and RE2R are so different so that’s why I’m kinda doubtful that the VAs/mocappers are at all referenced.) It's likely that the technology used is also more advance at this point. i would argue that yes the models are vastly different, (mostly the shape of Ada's face and general height of her head, and the eye shapes.) but overall, it wouldn't be super difficult to replace her face with the model. it would if they had a different jaw, lip structure and it would've impeded the ability to have a consistent facial movement between the two, but they're not that different to ruin the mocap > face model.
The only one that we can confirm is that re6 Ada's face was partially modelled after Courtnenay as she states here. Everything else is speculation and assumptions based on the mocap industry and how it works as a whole.

“My Ada is a Survivor”: Resident Evil 4 Remake Actor on Backlash
Ada Wong, the horror game's fan favourite character, was played by Asian-Canadian actor Lily Gao in the Resident Evil 4 remake cast, however she has received criticism since the game's release. Gao has returned to talk about the "racist, sexist harassment" she experienced as part of the premiere of Resident Evil 4 Remake after deleting the contents of her Instagram account. Gao removed the contents of her Instagram account in early April in the wake of the Resident Evil 4 remake release date and the unfortunate abuse that accompanied it. Being the first Asian woman to portray the character – Ada was originally portrayed by Sally Cahill, then Jolene Andersen – Gao was hit with torrents of abuse, but has returned to the Instagram on April 9 to discuss the situation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4PNs_h9naw “Being the first Asian actor to portray Ada in the Resident Evil games is an honour,” she writes. “It’s unfortunate that, with the game’s release, also came the all too familiar feeling of ‘I don’t belong.’ While criticism is expected, it’s not the first time an actor of colour faces racist and sexist harassment, for simply participating. “Inauthentic casting perpetuates an unhealthy image that further dehumanises the community they seek to reflect. It is time we stop only capitalising on the sexualised, eroticised, and mysterious Asian woman, and make a space to honour every kind of Asian woman. “My Ada is a survivor,” she continues. “She is kind, just, intelligent, and funny. She is unpredictable, resilient, and absolutely not a stereotype.” Players will get to play as Ada first-hand during the new Resident Evil 4 Remake Mercenaries mode, which some believe is early preparation for Separate Ways, the Ada-centric mode that, while currently unavailable in-game, is believed to be on the horizon. If you haven’t played the game yet, our Resident Evil 4 Remake review raves about it, so why not give it a go? We have a list of the Resident Evil 4 Remake system requirements here to ensure that your rig doesn’t spontaneously combust, as well as the best Resident Evil 4 Remake weapons to help you pop heads and take names.
