1. I dig the way that the editor cuts from the interview byte about “South Bronx” to the photo of KRS One and Scott La Rock, and then back to Nas as the music dies down a bit and plays in the background.

2. It is such an interesting choice to never show MC Serch’s sit down interview. Rather, the editor uses the shot of him driving and cuts the audio from the interview over the image. It makes it stand out from a talking head interview.

3. I don’t know if it is just me but it looks they did something to make Nas almost raised from the background. It is a very powerful image.

1. Ryan Adams - Gold. It features the artist on the front; however, he is looking away from the camera which indicates a shyness. He is also cocked to one side and unbalanced rather than standing straight up which is an interesting choice. The way that his shirt plays off of the upside down American flag is striking and jumps out off a record store shelf. It is the exact thing that made me notice this album and purchase it when I first saw it in the store over 10 years ago.

2. DMX - Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood. The image is visually arresting. It is also indicative of the music that is on the record: DMX is covered in blood but when you take a closer look his face shows a sensitivity and a vulnerability. The music on the album is a mix between hard, aggressive songs and reflective and introspective songs. 

3. Saves The Day - Through Being Cool. The band is featured on the cover and it is clear how young they are. They were just out of high school when they recorded it. They are also seated on the couch, not talking to anybody else at the party which reflects the themes in the songs on the album: loneliness, isolation, not fitting in, awkwardness.
