John Awoosamauge his mark.
Nipmuc. John Awoosamauge’s name seen more commonly as Awasamaug. His homelands perhaps at Natick or Hassanamesit. Awasamaug appears as a Nipmuc signatory on this document, outlining the exchange of more than 2000 acres of land “more or less” at so-called Sherborn, Massachusetts (south of Framingham) for “five and twenty pounds of currant money…” Awasamaug’s mark appears here with Waban’s, Andrew Pittimee’s, Piambow’s and others.
This deed marked on June 12, 1682. Seen at the Massachusetts Historical Society.
