The first time John meets you, you literally turn up on his doorstep bloody. The figurative doorstep being the E.D. You’re not injured but you do have your hand tucked within the chest cavity of a nine year old boy, fingers pinching together one of his arteries so that the poor kid doesn’t bleed out.

They spend 45 minutes working around you, opening up the area before clamping it so that you can remove your hand. It comes out a stained mess and unlike a normal person in the aftermath of hideous situation, you don’t gag or throw up. You calmly use the paper towels to remove the surface layer of viscera until you’re escorted into the nearest shower facility to clean up.

You come out with damp hair, wearing a pair of burgundy scrubs a size too big for you and shoes from the lost and found, each foot a different brand of sneaker. Your own clothes are sealed in a clear bio-hazard bag, ready to be taken into evidence by CPD, because the hole you had your hand in was from a Colt 45, the poor kid’s lucky he didn’t die from such a catastrophic injury.

It’s in the aftermath of the whole thing he finds you in the Doctor’s Lounge, you have this look on your face, one he recognises form the nights he can’t catch his breath and your hands are starting to shake.

“Hey, hey.” He whispers crouching down in front of you, taking your hands in his. “It’s just the adrenaline, it needs somewhere to go.”

You’ve managed to keep yourself controlled until now, put together, it isn’t until there’s nothing left to do that the shock of the situation hits you.

“I’m sorry.” You say clenching your jaw as your body starts to quake. “Medically I know what this is but my head…” You trail off helplessly and  he understands. He’s been through some traumatic shit too, he knows how it messes you up. “It feels like I’m unmoored, like the worlds slipping away from me, like I’m falling...”

He’s deeply familiar with the sensation, how the floor slips out from underneath your feet, how disconcerting it can be. He takes your hands, placing them on his shoulders as he looks into your eyes.

“Hold on to me alright?” He says softly. “Let me be your anchor.”

Your grip tightens on his scrubs as he leans in close, gathering you up into his arms, holding you steady. The scent of his aftershave floods your senses, an undercurrent of cedarwood tinged with lavender. You breathe it in, long inhales that fill your chest with oxygen, followed by similar exhales that regulate your breathing.

“That’s it.” He whispers, his breath ghosting in your ear. “You’re doing great.”

The trembling starts to subside and you can feel your heart thundering against his. The intimacy isn’t lost on you. It’s the closest you’ve been to a man in two years and it awakens something inside you.

“Better?” He asks, sitting back on his knees to give you a little space and you nod your head in response.

“Yea. Much.” You say, taking in another steadying breath. “Sorry I don’t even know your name.”

“It’s Jonathan, Jonathan Frost. I work as a paediatrician here at Med.” He tells you holding out his hand to shake yours.

“Bailey.” You say, gripping his hand tightly. “I work Oncology underneath Doctor Washington.”

“Well Bailey, I get off shift in a couple of minutes, could I drop you off on the way home? Make sure you get in ok or at least find two matching pairs of shoes.” He says as you both look down at the sneakers your wearing, the one with the velcro strips and then the one with the actual shoe laces.

“I would really appreciate that Johnny.”

Johnny… Noone’s called him that in years, he likes the way it sounds rolling off your tongue.

“Just give me a second to finish my charts.” He says raising to his feet before heading to his cubby and handing you his coat to bundle up in. “Then I’m all yours, I promise.”

I am begging for more John Frost content. Please? There's so much potential there. Someone write a fic where he's an exploited child actor and when he's free from his parents clutches he decides to help children instead. Where are the gifs and such? Please I need more him and this season in general, thank you.

My thoughts on the new Chicago med episode, in no particular order:

Did I miss the reason why Hannah doesn’t have sleeves rn? Why are her scrubs shaped so differently?

I feel like they’re setting Lenox up to be the next Ethan (rigid recent military discharge with an arc centered around calming the actual fuck down) and I’m not sure how I feel about that but I do think she has solid potential

I want them to replicate the early Rhodes/Bekker magic with her and Archer. Like, from the first few episodes, before it was even a romance

Where is Kai? Where is Monique? Why is Doris everywhere saying like three lines but they can’t seem to remember their recurring characters that had any significant scenes? Either give Doris some spotlight or forget about her

That was a ridiculous waste of Zach’s character

Frost is a solid addition, the banter with Maggie is gonna be a lot of fun to watch

Loving the Pavel storyline, not loving Daniel being single again. I truly liked Liliana and her dynamic with Dan

If they write Dr Charles off the show at any point, I do want them to bring Reese back. She left (partly) because of him, I wanna see her as his replacement for the ED psych attending job

Why does Maggie seem so irritated even at the start? “I really needed some good news today”??? Is the divorce arc still going?????

Hannah being superstitious about the crash victim (“maybe she heard her baby cry”/“or maybe it was just the electrical current”) was a really nice touch, both for Hannah’s character (her semi recent exposition about losing her mom and longing for connection like that). That conversation also perfectly exemplified her dynamic with Archer, which I’m also a massive fan of

Speaking of Archer, what happened with Sean?? I liked him a lot ngl, I was excited to see where that storyline went

I expected a “rising star” arc with Kai, maybe even with a little burnout, like they tried and failed to do with Elsa Curry (or something even darker, like an Angel of death storyline), so just not seeing him was so odd for me

Goodwin in scrubs! Seeing her as a nurse doing nurse things was cool, and her “I’ve been dealing with grouchy ass doctors…” was PERFECT (not to mention watching archer hesitate when he realized it was her)

Visually, and idk how to explain this well, the visuals on this season (and s9 tbh) were so…off. They feel cold. For lack of a better term, everything looks so clinical and dingy now, early seasons felt a little more…idk, artistic. It’s the same stuff a lot of Zach Snyder DC stuff struggles with.

Loving Abrams having a bigger role (for now) tbh, I really hope we get more of him

Ripley is one of those characters that I love the storylines of but I can’t make myself care about his feelings lmao

You’re wear John’s jacket into work the next day. The scent of his aftershave clings to the collar, the soothing aroma of cedarwood and lavender flooding your senses, lingering on your skin. You haven’t been able to stop thinking about him all night, his soft tone, his dark eyes, the way that he felt pressed up against you.

All of it makes for vivid dreams, ones where he whispers the filthiest things into your ear as he fucks you, where his fingers entwine with yours, his pace firm, relentless, steady as he makes you come all over his cock.

You haven’t had thoughts like this for a long time and certainly not at this intensity. It surprises you, because you’d pretty much given up on dating. Your life for the past few years has been about work, about your patients and the research studies you’ve been co-opting for the latest cancer treatments.

When you next run into John it’s in the Doctor’s Lounge once again. You’ve just hung his jacket up in his cubby when he enters the room adjusting his stethoscope around his neck.

“Oh hey.” You say, gesturing to his coat. “I was just returning it.”

“You should have kept it.” He smiles as he heads towards the coffee station, picking up the pot. “It looked good on you.”

A flush creeps across your cheeks because it’s the first kind thing that someone’s said to you in a while that wasn’t work related.

“I should get going.” You tell him as you stride towards the exit.

“Bailey.” He says as you’re half way out the door, you pause turning to face him. “Do you like bowling?”

“Bowling?” You repeat.

“Yea I was thinking we should go sometime.” He says clasping his coffee cup to his chest. “It’s low key, something fun. A perfect first date.”

“Oh, you want to date me?” You ask surprised and he frowns at your words.

“Yea, why wouldn’t I?” He asks you, his palm rubbing over the nape of his neck. “Did I misread the situation?”

“No I like you.” You say softly tucking your hands into the pockets of your white coat.  “It’s just people don’t usually invite me out, I have a reputation for being all work, no play…”

“Well we could change that.” He tells you, meeting your gaze. “I mean if that’s something you wanted?”

“I think I’d like to.” You tell him, the edges of your mouth twitching up into a smile. “I think I’d like that a lot.”

Phew, thank God the photo frame thing was nothing (actually very sweet of the guy to go find a new frame to replace the broken one)

I'm so happy that both the cases of the dad with financial trouble and the woman with eye problem turned out okay

Apparently it can be of some use to have been a child actor after all

Omg. Didn't I say I have a problem with child actors? To be honest, finacial abuse by parents wasn't a thing I had on mind, but working during your childhood in fact is one of the problems I have with that
