John Boyd Dunlop was born on February 5, 1840. A Scottish inventor and veterinary surgeon who spent most of his career in Ireland. Familiar with making rubber devices, he invented the first practical pneumatic tires for his child’s tricycle and developed them for use in cycle racing. He sold his rights to the pneumatic tires to a company he formed with the president of the Irish Cyclists’ Association, Harvey Du Cros, for a small cash sum and a small shareholding in their pneumatic tire business. Dunlop withdrew in 1896. The company that bore his name, Dunlop Pneumatic Tyre Company, was not incorporated until later.

Robert William Thomson was born on July 16th 1822 at Stonehaven.
The names of the great Scottish inventors roll easily off the tongue; John Logie Baird, Alexander Graham Bell, Charles Macintosh, and John Dunlop inventor of the pneumatic tyre, or should that read re-inventor of the pneumatic tyre?
Indeed it should read re-inventor; the pneumatic tyre was in fact patented by one of Scotland’s most prolific, but now largely forgotten, inventors, Robert William Thomson on 10 December 1845, some 43 years before John Dunlop’s re-invention. Thomson’s “Aerial Wheels” were subsequently demonstrated in Regents Park London in 1847 and proved to all present that they could both reduce noise and improve passenger comfort.
Robert was born in Stonehaven, the was the son of a local woollen mill owner and was the eleventh of twelve children. Originally destined for the ministry, he apparently had great difficulty coming to terms with Latin,so refused his family’s wishes.
Instead, at age 14, Thomson was shipped to an uncle in the United States, where he served an apprenticeship with a merchant. Upon his return to Scotland, Thomson immersed himself in science, learning all he could about chemistry, electricity and astronomy, and soon began improving the design of mechanical devices in the family’s household. After serving an engineering apprenticeship, Thomson found work as a civil engineer and soon after designed a method of detonating explosive charges via electricity, this saved thousands of lives in the coal mining industry alone.
On December 10, 1845, at the age of 23, Thomson was granted a British patent for the very first pneumatic tyre, a device he called the “Aerial Wheel.” Intended for use on carriages (because bicycles had not yet been popularized), the Aerial Wheel used a rubberized fabric tube filled with pressurized air and encased in a thick leather outer skin. This leather “tire” was bolted to the rim, and the tread section was then stitched to the tyre’s sidewalls. By period accounts, Aerial Wheels yielded a much improved ride compared to conventional solid wheels, and even proved durable enough to accumulate more than 1,200 miles before wearing out. The following year Thomson applied for and received a French patent for his pneumatic tyre, and in 1847 he was granted a U.S. patent for his design.
Though revolutionary, Thomson’s Aerial Wheels were never commercially successful. The cost of the rubber needed for construction of the wheel’s pneumatic bladder priced the product beyond the means of most, and the improvement in ride quality failed to justify the expense in the eyes of the public.
It wasn’t until 1888 that another Scottish inventor, veterinarian John Boyd Dunlop, improved on Thomson’s design to create a pneumatic tire for bicycles, as a means of preventing the headaches suffered by his son when riding his bicycle on bumpy roads. In 1888, Dunlop was given his own patent for the improved pneumatic tyre, but two years later, this was rescinded due to its conflict with Thomson’s Aerial Wheel. Undeterred, Dunlop continued his work on the pneumatic tyre, and by 1890 was mass-producing tyres for bicycles at a factory in Belfast.

Ação, parceria da Emdec com a Guarda Municipal, foi realizada nesta sexta-feira na avenida Ruy Rodriguez A quarta operação “Placa Escura” feita pela Empresa Municipal de Desenvolvimento de Campinas (Emdec) foi realizada em parceria com a Guarda Municipal nesta sexta-feira, 4 de agosto. A primeira moto autuada apresentou um histórico de 184 infrações. O valor das multas acumuladas ultrapassa os 107 mil reais. Esta foi a segunda operação “Placa Escura” no eixo do Distrito do Ouro Verde. Foram feitas 71 abordagens que geraram 104 autuações. A ação ocorreu entre 15h e 17h30, na avenida Ruy Rodriguez (centro/bairro), na divisa dos jardins Morumbi e Cristina. Do total de abordagens, foram 66 motos, quatro automóveis e um utilitário. Dentro do saldo da operação, oito veículos foram removidos (sete pela Emdec e um pela Guarda Municipal. A Emdec realizou 101 autuações e a GM, três. Além da obstrução da placa, a fiscalização também envolve a pilotagem com apenas uma das mãos, viseira do capacete aberta, transitar com pneu “careca”, documentação irregular e pilotar motocicleta com baixa definitiva (proibida de circular), entre outras. Essa é a quarta operação “Placa Escura”, para abordagem de motociclistas que tentam encobrir a placa da moto ao passar por equipamentos de fiscalização eletrônica, como radares e semáforos, no prazo de uma semana. As duas primeiras, realizadas entre Emdec e Guarda Municipal, ocorreram no sentido centro da avenida John Boyd Dunlop (JBD), na altura da rua Achiles Bertoldi, no bairro Cidade Satélite Íris, na região do distrito do Campo Grande. São ações para coibir o comportamento de risco de motociclistas. Na operação de ontem, quinta-feira, a equipe ficou posicionada no sentido centro-bairro da Ruy Rodriguez, logo depois da ponte da Rodovia dos Bandeirantes (SP-348). Os equipamentos de fiscalização estão em pontos anteriores ao local, sendo um radar fixo e outro em conjunto semafórico. Histórico  - 1ª operação “Placa Escura” - 28/07 - Avenida JBD (Campo Grande). Carro incendiado Na avenida John Boyd Dunlop, trecho de terra um pouco antes da estrada dos Inajás, encontrei um veículo totalmente queimado. Não sei que veículo é. Não encontrei placa por perto. Aparentemente não estava depenado por que até o tape estava dentro do veículo. Mais um caso de automóvel incendiado na região. O outro foi no residencial Colinas Verdes há alguns dias. Teria sido um veículo que se incendiou por acidente, pane elétrica ou algo desse tipo? Ladrões ou vândalos teriam feito isso ou seria um golpe no seguro? “Now, you should know that I actually helped bring down my own father, Mr. Dunlop. So bringing you down will be a piece of cake. And as my friends here can attest, I love cake.”
I love all the characters equally, but Aubrey is a gem, he’s his own character. He’s adorable, loves food more than anyone else on this planet, is quirky, serious when he needs to be and a great asset to the show. He has the biggest heart and he is an amazing hard working Agent. He saved Booth when he needed someone after Sweets’ death, he gave him a partner in the FBI, who he could trust after what they did to him. He didn’t have an easy life and he truly belongs in the group, for not having the best upbringing, and in turn found the squints as his found family. John Boyd portays him so well. Aubrey is a great character and always needs to be mentioned more!

October 23rd 1921 saw the death of John Boyd Dunlop who re-invented the pneumatic tyre from the design of fellow Scot, Robert W Thomson.
From its very beginnings it is obvious what Dunlop set out to do, to deliver a better driving experience for drivers and a better riding experience for riders.
Funnily enough the story does not start on four wheels or even on two, but on three. In 1888 Dunlop’s founder, John Boyd Dunlop, was watching his young son riding his tricycle on solid rubber tyres over cobbled ground. He noticed that his little boy was not going very fast and did not seem very comfortable. In trying to provide his son with a smoother ride and better handling Dunlop took the tricycle, wrapped its wheels in thin rubber sheets, glued them together and inflated them with a football pump. That way he developed the first air cushioning system in history, and laid the foundation for the first pneumatic tyre.
Less than a year later, Dunlop’s invention made its racing debut on two wheels. Enabling a little known rider to easily beat his stronger rivals in a series of bicycle races, thanks to the advantage given by his pneumatic tyres, immediately establishing the role of motorsports as a feature of the Dunlop heritage.
Dunlop immediately patented his idea and started to develop his invention into a commercial venture, founding what quickly became known as the Dunlop Pneumatic Tyre Co. Ltd.

What is tyre?
Firstly know the difference between Tire and Tyre. A Tire (American English) or Tyre (British English, see spelling difference).  So, Tyre is a ring-shaped component that surrounds a wheel's rim to transfer a  vehicle's load from the axle through the wheel to the ground and to provide traction on the surface over which the wheel travels.  Most tyres, such as automobiles and bicycles are pneumatically inflated cushion that absorbs shocks as the tyre rolls over rough features in the surface. Tyres provide a footprint called a contact patch, that is designed to match the weight of the vehicle with the bearing strength of the surface that it rolls over by providing a bearing pressure that will not  deform  the surface excessively. It also produced bicycle tyres from its founding until 1976. The company was named after American Charles Goodyear, Inventor of Vulcanized rubber. The first Goodyear tyres became popular because they were easily detachable and required little maintenance.
Goodyear is also known for the Goodyear Blimp. Through Goodyear had been manufacturing airships and ballons since the early 1900s, the first Goodyear advertising blimp flew in 1925. Apollo announced its entry into the two wheeler tyre segment with contact manufacturing in March 2016. Continental is based in Hanover, Lower Saxony, Germany. Continental is the world's fourth largest tyre manufacturing.
Continental was founded in 1871 as a rubber manufacturer. Continental Caoutchouc and Gutta-Percha Compagine. In 1898, Continental started development and production of the vehicle tyre with plan tread, which was the major success of the brand.In 1904, Continental  became the first company in the world to manufacture grooved vehicle tyres. Another major product Continental invented was detachable wheel tyres that was made for touring vehicles. In the late 1920s, Continental merged with several other major rubber industry companies to form the largest rubber company in Germany "Continental Gummi-Werke AG". As with many other German companies during World War ll, Continental used salve labor provided by the Nazi Party in their  factory in the 1940s at Hannover-Stocken, Hannover-Limmer, Hannover-Ahlem, and others, all offshoots of the Neuengamme concentration camp.

Dunlop Tyres is a brand of tyres owned by Various companies around the world. Founded by Pneumatic tyre pioneer John Boyd Dunlop in Dublin, Ireland in 1890, It is owned and operated by Goodyear tyre and Rubber Company in North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. In India, the brand is owned by Dunlop India Ltd. whose parent company in the Ruia Group. In several Other Asian countries (Japan, China, Indonesia, Thailand and Russia), Africa and Latin America ( except Mexiao) it is operated by Sumitomo Rubber industries. In Malaysia, the Dunlop Tyres brand has, since 2012, been wholly owned by Continental AG , which manufactures Dunlop branded tyres for sale in Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei.
In 1985, Dunlop Rubber Company  was acquired by BTR PLC and Sumitomo acquired the rights to manufacture and market Dunlop branded road tyres. Sumitomo did not acquire any Dunlop company. In 1997. Sumitomo gained agreement to use the Dinlop name in its corporate name, and changed the name of its UK subsidary to Dunlop Tyres Ltd.
In 1999, Sumitomo and Goodyear began a joint venture by which Sumitomo continued to manufacture all Japanese made tyres under the Dunlop name, while Goodyear tyre and Rubber Company nought 75% of the European and North American tyre businesses of Sumitomo.
The company has extensive manufacturing operations throughout the world. With the closure of the Washington Plant in 2006, Goodyear Dunlop Ceased mainstream car and lorry tyre production in the UK.
