My friends and fellow National Geographic photographers wanted to share some of their images as we celebrate Earth Day. So we’ve been digging into The Photo Society Archive (our shared effort to showcase decades of our work for NatGeo) and pulling out some of our best images, just for today! Beginning in 1970, Earth Day is seen as the birth of the modern day environmental movement. It has since grown to an annual global event— inspiring millions to care about the planet we live on. If you’d like to see more just visit the TPS Archive link in @thephotosociety to discover more of our incredible world. Happy Earth Day everybody! FAN EXPO New Orleans Adds Seven ‘Back To The Future’ Guests For Franchise’s Largest Reunion Ever
Do you see what happens to slackers? Back to the Future fans know all too well, and today FAN EXPO New Orleans added James Tolkan, who as “Mr. Strickland” in the original 1985 film and sequel and his ancestor in BTTF III made the term famous, Claudia Wells (“Jennifer Parker”), Jeffrey Weissman (“George McFly”), Donald Fullilove (“Goldey Wilson”), Harry Waters Jr. (“Marvin Berry”), Frances Lee McCain (“Stella Baines”) and Charlie Croughwell (Michael J. Fox’s stunt double) to the BTTF reunion, January 10-12 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. Alongside headliners Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson and Tom Wilson, the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the first installment in the franchise is the biggest reunion ever of the trilogy’s stars.
Tolkan has appeared in more than 80 films and television shows, playing memorable characters in WarGames, Top Gun, Masters of the Universe and many others. He portrayed “Mr. Strickland” in BTTF and BTTF II, and his grandfather “Marshal James Strickland” a hundred years earlier in III. Wells had numerous spots on TV series and TV movies before gaining wide notice as Marty McFly’s girlfriend in the original film. She had regular runs on comedies “Fast Times” and “Off the Rack” among her 30 credits.
Weissman was cast in both BTTF sequels as Marty’s father “George” as part of an extensive resume that includes more than 80 films and series that spans six decades.
Fullilove has taken turns as a live actor and voice actor ever since portraying Michael Jackson in the animated series “Jackson 5ive” in 1971. He played “Goldie Wilson,” later “Mayor Goldie Wilson” and has appeared in such notable series as “The Fall Guy,” “Hill Street Blues,” “21 Jump Street” and “American Dad.”
Waters Jr. had guest appearances on hits like “Laverne & Shirley” and “Cagney & Lacey” before making his mark as the lead singer “Marvin Berry” at the pivotal “Enchantment Under the Sea” dance in the original. He was a cast member of the 1992 Disney show “Adventures in Wonderland” and is a Faculty Emeritus at Macalester (Minn.) College in the Theater and Dance department.
McCain has had roles in several blockbusters, notably Gremlins, Footloose and Stand By Me as well as appearances on hit shows like “Three’s Company,” “St. Elsewhere,” “Better Call Saul” and 80+ others, spanning more than 50 years. Her portrayal of “Stella Baines,” Marty’s grandmother-to-be in the 1955 scenes in the original BTTF earned laughs and later references to jailed “Uncle Joey.”
Croughwell has performed stunt work in nearly 150 productions, including all three BTTF films, and blockbusters like Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Masters of the Universe, The Sandlot and others. He has done Michael J. Fox’s stunt work on other films, including Light of Day, The Secret of My Success, The Hard Way, Casualties of War and others.
In addition to the BTTF reunion, FAN EXPO New Orleans will feature the “Smallville” trio of Tom Welling, Michael Rosenbaum and Kristin Kreuk; plus "Firefly” standout Alan Tudyk, original Star Wars standout Anthony Daniels, “Superman & Lois” headliners Tyler Hoechlin and Bitsie Tulloch, “The Mandalorian” star Giancarlo Esposito, “Doctor Who” Thirteenth Doctor Jodie Whittaker and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” star James Marsters, “Resident Alien” standouts Alice Wetterlund and Sara Tomko and teen romance “High School Musical” regulars Corbin Bleu and Lucas Grabeel).
FAN EXPO New Orleans features the biggest and best in pop culture: movies, TV, music, artists, writers, exhibitors, cosplay, with three full days of themed programming to satisfy every fandom.
New Orleans is the first event on the 2025 FAN EXPO HQ calendar; the full schedule is available at fanexpohq.com/home/events/.

Hellraiser: Bloodline (1996)
So, this was the last theatrical release. This was the last one to have Clive Barker involved. And, in order, is the final movie, since it’s set in the past (as a prequel) and then in the future. These movies are getting worse as they go, so let’s get an explanation as to why there are SIX MORE AFTER THIS. It’s like the Land Before Time movies. They’re making them because they can, not because they should. This movie details the making of the box, and the destruction of the box. It was essentially a shitty Jason X and a gory Spy Kids. Pinhead’s makeup looks better here.
Rating: F. Mid 90s, everyone loved sci-fi. And they should not have.

Please never vote for any of these people again
Sorry, St Bluebell isn’t here today. Besides how much I hate Hobby Lobby, the one potentially rage inducing issue I bring up on this site is voting. After I have encouraged all of you to register and cast your votes, these people voted to nullify the election results in states where their candidate didn’t win. They did so *after* the assault on the Capitol Building, after they had seen the consequences of their attempt to undermine the peaceful transfer of power in this country.
Every year our government becomes more powerful, gains more power over the daily lives of its citizens. Its knows where you live, it knows who you talk to on the phone, it knows what library books you checked out, it knows what you had for breakfast. The most important issue facing us today is whether we, the people, will ensure that we have a government we can trust before we lose all control of it. Every single one of these people should be primaried by their own party and never allowed to hold any public office again.

Hello there I read a post of your and you mentioned the star wars comics Can you please suggest some good ones to read about the prequels or the original trilogy era? I would be most grateful
Hi! BOY, I CAN I. :D PREQUELS COMICS: - Obi-Wan & Anakin by Charles Soule. This is probably my favorite prequels comic, for both iddy reasons (the art is gorgeous, there are some joyfully extra Jedi shenanigans, Obi-Wan & Anakin’s relationship is darling, etc.), but also because it’s really, really good when you read the whole thing and look at what it’s saying about the plot, the Jedi and their view of their relationship with the Republic, their relationship with Anakin and his relationship with them, and why everyone views things the way they do, right down to Palpatine poisoning everything for everyone. - Age of Republic by Jody Houser. This is a series of oneshots (don’t let the numbers fool you) for various hero and villain characters and all of them are really good. My favorite is the Obi-Wan one (obviously) because it’s so good at exploring his relationship with Anakin, but the Padme and Anakin and Maul ones all have really excellent character moments as well. - Star Wars Adventures by various authors. I enjoy pretty much all of the Adventures comics, no matter what era they’re in! I don’t remember specifically which numbers the prequels ones are--there aren’t very many, but I’m recommending the whole run because there’s a lot of OT comics in there as well and the ST comics are really, really cute ones. They’re light-hearted but have some great worldbuilding bits and have some amazing Padme moments especially. (SWA #12-13 have the Anakin/Padme date episode that’s hilarious + the 2019 Annual has an amazing story about Breha telling baby Leia about her friend Queen Padme Amidala.) There’s also a story about Mace helping a young Twi’lek girl somewhere in that run that’s WONDERFUL. - Clone Wars Battle Tales by Michael Moreci. It’s a kids’ series (part of the Adventures line) but it has so many great moments for both the clones and the Jedi. Both hilarious and with some touching moments (oh my god, Plo & Wolffe’s interactions got me right in the feelings and Obi-Wan is my fave forever, as always) and it’s a nicely done 5 issue mini-series. - Jedi of the Republic - Mace Windu by Matt Owens. Don’t let the art put you off (it is an acquired taste, if that) because the story itself is really worth digging into, a great look at Mace and the Jedi and their struggle with their role in being warriors in the Clone Wars, as well as their capacity for compassion and care when someone is deeply unfair to the people around them. It’s an excellent Mace story but also has Kit Fisto being amazing in it, so it’s also worth reading for that. - Darth Vader: Dark Lord of the Sith vol. 2 by Charles Soule. Set in the immediate aftermath of Revenge of the Sith, this is a phenomenal look at Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader and how they are absolutely the same person. The bigger arc of this story illustrates all these various Jedi that Anakin meets, showing him paths he could have taken instead of the one he did--he could have went on sabbatical, he could have left the Jedi for a family, he could have found other paths, he could have helped even while falling to the dark side--and he rejects every single one of them because he refuses to believe there were any other options than the one he has. Add in some incredible worldbuilding and this is the comic for understanding Darth Vader, for me. - Kanan: The Last Padawan by Greg Weisman. Another must-read, for the stunningly gorgeous art, for the amazing cuteness of baby Jedi, for the incredibleness of everything of Depa Billaba, and for the heartbreak of watching Caleb Dume become Kanan Jarrus after the Jedi Purge. The worldbuliding is amazing (the look at the Jedi is so satisfying!) and the deeper understanding of Kanan’s origins and heartbreak at watching how much he suffered through all of that, it’s just gorgeously done. ORIGINAL COMICS: - Darth Vader vol. 1 by Kieron Gillen. It’s best to read this concurrently with the Star Wars ongoing (from 2015 by Jason Aaron) because the first 6+ issues overlap with each other, but after that, read in whatever order you like. This series is amazing and I would probably say, if you’re going to read one Darth Vader comic, it should be this one (even though the Soule one is my favorite), because Gillen really nails that balance of keeping him something of a mystical figure while also exploring the character. There are so many absolutely iconic moments from this run that are Must Reads. - Darth Vader vol. 3 by Greg Pak. While I almost put this in the prequels second, because while it’s set between ANH and ESB there are a lot of flashbacks and aftermath of prequels era stuff. It’s less than 10 issues into its run yet, but every issue has been grabbing me by the throat and really giving us another entire comic full of gut-punches about what a shit lord Anakin Skywalker chose to be while also breaking our hearts for him. - Star Wars vol. 1 by Jason Aaron. While the main series has been rebooted and is now being written by Charles Soule, the Jason Aaron one is absolutely worth reading, it’s centered around the time just post-ANH, where Luke and Leia and Han are having adventures and it does the brilliant job of exploring the characters in meaningful ways while working around the framework of the original movies and adding onto them to make them even better, imo. Plus, there are some Obi-Wan issues in there that are absolute heartbreakers. - Star Wars vol. 2 by Charles Soule. We’re only on the second arc at this point, but the first arc with Luke recently wrapped up and it was really amazing, Soule is really good at drawing connections between the character arcs of both the PT and the OT, ones that may not always occur to me on the first read, but once I go back, it really feels it’s deliberate. Luke struggling with the dark side in the aftermath of ESB and the revelations there and how he deals with it? Incredible. - As mentioned above, the Star Wars Adventures comics have a lot of OT ones (anything with Leia tends to be my favorite) and they might be aimed at a younger audience, but they are often gorgeously drawn and have either really iconic moments or are just really feel-good reads. - Shattered Empire is a four-issue mini-series that’s basically the aftermath of ROTJ and setting up a lot of stuff that’ll happen in the years between the OT and the ST. The art is absolutely stunning, you will fall in love with Poe Dameron’s mother, and there’s some great nods to what the original trio was up to. It’s great for connective tissue, but also I just genuinely enjoyed it for itself. HONORABLE MENTIONS: - It’s been awhile since I read either of the Maul comics (the one by Cullen Bunn I remember really enjoying, and I haven’t read Son of Dathomir by Jeremy Barlow yet) but they’re worth picking up, if you’re enjoying SW comics. - The Adventures comics had a Tales from Vader’s Castle + Return to Vader’s Castle series released near Halloween for some cutely spooky stories that I really loved, if you like the Adventures comics. There’s a hilarious one with Dracula!Dooku references as a nod to Christopher Lee’s portrayal of the character that absolutely delighted me. - If you enjoy her introduction in Darth Vader vol. 1, the Doctor Aphra comics are excellent reads as well. I also loved the Princess Leia mini-series by Mark Waid

Via DEADLINE:
Annie ‘St. Vincent’ Clark & Carrie Brownstein Sundance Feature ‘The Nowhere Inn’ Picked Up By IFC
Anthony D'Alessandro
March 1, 2021 2:19PM PST
EXCLUSIVE: Deadline has learned that IFC Films has just taken North American rights to The Nowhere Inn from Topic Studios. The pic, a fractured commentary on reality, identity, and authenticity, is produced, written by, and stars Carrie Brownstein and Grammy winner Annie ‘St. Vincent’ Clark. Nowhere Inn also reps the feature directorial debut of frequent Portlandia collaborator and scribe Bill Benz.
The movie, which made its world premiere at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival, marks the first feature length film in which Clark has simultaneously produced, starred and composed all the original music. A fall 2021 release is currently planned.
The Nowhere Inn is a metafictional account of two creative forces banding together to make a documentary about St. Vincent’s music, touring life, and public persona. But they quickly discover unpredictable forces lurking within subject and filmmaker that threaten to derail the friendship, the project, and the duo’s creative lives. Nine-time Emmy nominee Brownstein is real-life friends with St. Vincent, and the feature is the story of two close friends’ attempt to wrestle the truth out of a complex subject before the hall of mirrors that is their artistic lives devours them completely.
The deal for the film was negotiated by IFC Films’ EVP of Acquisitions and Productions Arianna Bocco with Deborah McIntosh at Endeavor Content and Paradigm on behalf of the filmmakers.
Bocco tells Deadline, “Carrie Brownstein and Annie Clark brilliantly push the boundaries of how we communicate through film, music and comedy as only true artists can. We’re thrilled to take viewers to The Nowhere Inn and bring this unique and hilarious film to audiences and fans nationwide.”
“We are extremely proud of what we’ve created with The Nowhere,” said Brownstein and Clark. “And we couldn’t imagine a better home and partner for it than IFC Films.”
Added Ryan Heller, SVP, Film & Acquisitions for Topic Studios, “It has been our true joy to collaborate with Annie, Carrie and Bill on this audacious labor or love and friendship. And we’re thrilled to be in such great hands with Arianna and the team at IFC Films who have made a virtue of delivering bold, genre-defying stories to audiences.”
Topic Studios financed the film and produced with Ways and Means and Crazy Galore. The film was produced by Jett Steiger, Lana Kim, Annie Clark and Carrie Brownstein. Executive producers for Topic Studios are Michael Bloom, Ryan Heller and Maria Zuckerman. Adam Pincus and Bobcat Goldthwait also serve as EPs. Co-producers are Josh Bachove and Danny Harris. Topic Studios also recently produced and co-financed The Mauritanian which received awards season love last night at the Golden Globes with a supporting actress feature win for Jodie Foster.
Brownstein is the co-creator of sketch comedy series Portlandia which ran for eight seasons on IFC and won four Emmys. Her feature credits as an actress include Carol, The Oath, and Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot as well as the TV series Transparent, Idiotsitter and Curb Your Enthusiasm.
St. Vincent’s self titled fourth solo won her a Grammy for Best Alternative Album, her first Grammy Award. She was the first solo female performer in 20 years to win a Grammy in that category. St. Vincent teased her new album last week with a series of vintage poster advertisements. The upcoming LP, titled Daddy’s Home, is dated to be release May 14 on Loma Vista.
