Ngl, I'm very happy that women's hockey and the PWHL is getting a lot of attention and popularity, especially after so many years. But at the same time... I'm kind of uncomfortable with the fact that people are acting like the PWHL is the first/only successful women's hockey league, and at how people are acting like it's flawless and acting like there's zero issues with it. The problem is though, women's hockey leagues have always existed. Hell, the PHF came before the PWHL. Hell, the PWHL only exists because of a horrible merger with the PHF. A lot of people lost their jobs *because* of this merger. Hell, the PHF isn't even the first women's hockey league either. There was the Canadian Women's Hockey League. There's the Ontario Women's Hockey League.Hell, college women's hockey is a thing. Also. The PWHL, and while we're at it, women's hockey in general, still have issues of their own when it comes to minorities. Jocelyne Lamoureux, a member of the PWHPA, and her sister Monique, are both openly transphobic. Hell, the NHWL/PHF wasn't entirely perfect either, considering the Minnesota Whitecaps signed a known racist and homophobe.
Support women's hockey. Uplift women's hockey. Hell, feel free to support the PWHL if you want to.
But please don't act like the PWHL is the first women's hockey league, because it's not. Additionally, please don't act like women's hockey isn't flawed and doesn't have issues, because the truth is, there are flaws that do need to be fixed.

The USA Women’s Hockey Team brought gold medals home from the 2018 Olympic Games in South Korea.
In a fierce game against Canada, Monique Lamoureux scored the game-tying goal. Her teammate, Jocelyne, then won the game in a dramatic sudden-death-shoot-out. Jocelyn and Monique have been teammates since birth— they’re twins. And guess what. Their matching gold medals are just the beginning of their winning attributes.
✅Moms ✅Six time world champions ✅Three time Olympians ✅Gender Equity advocates in USA Hockey ✅Leaders of The Lamoureux Foundation
We’re so proud to include these powerhouses in our forthcoming book, 100 Treasures and the Stories They Tell. You’ll have to wait until launch day, April 30, to read the whole story but I promise it will be DOUBLE worth the wait. 🏒🏒
We also got to road trip to North Dakota to photograph the hardware, pictured. The ground was frozen and the hearts were warm. @jocelyneusa17 and @moniquelam7, it was a total honor.

An inside look at the gender gap in college hockey
Monique Lamoureux-Morando knows there will be a day when she and her son will walk around the Ralph Engelstad Arena concourse at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. Her son will see the display honoring his mom and aunt, Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson, as the school’s two greatest women’s hockey players, not to mention two of the greatest athletes — regardless of sport — to play at…

I am so happy for our Americans, but boy if it doesn't just tear at the heart strings to see the pure defeat and pain on the Canadians faces.
This was an amazing and anxiety ridden game. You ladies are all amazing. Hold your heads high. Shootouts always are a shot in the dark.

As gratifying as it’s been to see fans express support for players across the PWHPA, as 2019 comes to an end attention is turning from the necessary basics of building a movement ― establishing the PA, arranging events, developing partnerships ― to a wholesale focus on generating a suitable league, rivalries included.
“I mean, it’s fine for now,” said Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson of the PWHPA’s schedule, adding that as someone who could never justify relocating for the CWHL and NWHL’s inadequate offerings, she’s getting more games than in the past. “But we definitely need something more established in the near future.” […]
After an intermittent schedule during the fall, the second half features a much steadier stream of games. The PWHPA has even had to turn down invitations as they begin to run out of available weekends.
The busier schedule and support from NHL teams is very welcome, but the current format remains far from the end goal. Moving forward, the priority is building towards a genuinely professional league so that players aren’t forced to juggle multiple jobs, or to abandon the sport altogether because they can’t afford to keep going.
