I was spending my Friday evening ruminating over the beauty that is the Solavellan reunion and there was this one song that kept playing in my head as I read through the tens of hundreds of tweets/tumblr posts on those two beautiful souls!

And I wanted to share that with the world.

This might interest the one other Indian Solavellan fan out there but, I think it is the perfect song that would depict what Solas must have felt when Lavellan chooses to go with him. This is how I imagine he feels about her in general, but this fits the ending even more!

I also think it is a beautiful thing that we can have songs in other (more obscure) languages describe this pairing. I guess it goes out to show just how universal feelings and emotions are!

Joanna and Carver, awaiting the battle at Ostagar. I like pictures of them together precisely because he is little more than a memory in Dragon Age 2. Jo relies on Carver. I mean, yes, he's a snarky little shit and they bicker constantly. But she knows he's got her back. And there's two of them: as long as one of them makes it back to Bethany and keeps the templars away from her, everything will be fine.

Well, we know whose job it's going to be.

I will say: Dragon Age 2 had so many rough edges. You could see the things they'd not quite finished and the environments they reused ... but the first time I played it, I was gripped from start to finish. And I adore my Hawke. Jo will likely always be my favourite Dragon Age protagonist. She's an anxious wreck of a human being, but she tries so hard.

Veilguard, on the other hand, is gorgeous ... but I spend significantly more time being baffled and annoyed by its storytelling choices than I do enjoying it.

Not to toot my own horn but this was the most aesthetically cohesive battle we've had. Everyone focusing on the dragon while Gore stays behind me for backup on the auxiliary enemies, Ieama remembering to change to a non AOE spell before getting close range, Auri and Redcap not hitting anyone in the party. It's just Chefs Kiss

Spoiler line is for Head Cannon thoughts on the group learning to work together and small spoilers (info from conversations) for some followers!

Hearkening back to this post, I like to think after her revelation, Ieama has tried to make amends to her fighting style since she cares quite a lot for her friends. But, she is not the best tactician for teams, and she hardly knows how to communicate in the middle of a fight, so it's likely the others who have experience with fighting in groups that help with plans or drills for the party.

Still, she has made attempts at least for taking more restoration spells, a feat she needed the college of Winterhold for, to her chagrin. At least if she does hit someone she can heal them well now, but her goal is to avoid hitting anyone, as she is used to not caring about the splash zones of her spells.

Of the others, Auri had been on her own for a while, and Remiel was looking out for herself for the longest time. Redcap meanwhile is pretty adaptable, working with his tribe, then alone with Anise, then again with a full adventuring party. Xelzaz also was a solitary before they met. For all of them, they all have a more one on one fight style, like Ieama. Xelzaz however seems to have experience at least in expeditions and teaming up for missions more so then the others. Meanwhile, Gore has talked about being taught to plan for and after fights, so I know he would help drill the group on down time for safety reasons. After losing everything he knew to Jo-Lee's machinations, he likely harbors the fear of losing his found family. Not to mention the innumerable times hes shouted directions to Ieama in the heat of a fight ("stand back, down a potion, and let me rip them in half for you-") or offered info on an area's inhabitants ("vampire/spriggan/troll lives nearby.") before the enemy found us. He is young, and was younger still when he was made a lieutenant in the Ravens, a title that entails leadership, management and direction to units, so he had a great deal of responsibility over people. So he's likely to drill the group for ambushes, keep an eye on archer's ammo, remind the team when they need to make a restock trip, and were it not for Xelzaz he'd probably take over food and water inventory as well.

Val, as a pirate captain, and all that entails, would have good battle plans and contingencies. He's of a a keen mind for both diplomacy and made good investment into his reputation, and also the added bonus of him being able to think on his feet is a good skill. Val also has age on his side, and with that a good deal of experience to share. But unlike Gore, he kept his cards close with the full extent of his plans, or, he only thinks halfway through and plays it by ear as he goes. Still a good skill for an unexpected turn of events in a fight, though. He is also hard on himself for his mistakes and past, and the responsibility weighed on him leading up to meeting the party. Val had/has a lot of grief over failing his brother Fathis, and in turn he knows he lost himself to vices when he finally became captain of the Dark Rose. His self awareness is, as he has said, a curse. He would help if asked, and I have no illusion his experience would be a boon for the party, but I can imagine his worry of doing right for the team would rear its head due to him dwelling on his past mistakes.

leander is an elf.

i like playing elves a lot and i usually do create them when the cc of a game allows me to do so. also, i think that it's a good pick for a first playthrough for the plot and themes of veilguard that have been revealed so far. but not only that, i do think an elf ties in particularly well with the grey warden background for rook as detailed below.

i do very much hope that we get an rp option for city elves with the backgrounds we pick, and aren't forced into playing a set dalish background.

leander will be a grey warden:

Shield Against the Night When innocent lives were at stake, Rook led the charge, saving a village from a monstrous nightmare - no matter the cost to himself. During a large darkspawn incursion, Rook was ordered to hold the line with other Grey Wardens until reinforcements arrived. Rook argued that by then, villagers under attack would be dead. He disobeyed orders, leading the squad into the incursion and sealing the tunnel to the Deep Roads. This turned the tide, and the darkspawn were driven off, which saved the villagers. Rook's heroism was popular among the younger Wardens, but others with connections to noble families resented his independent streak. Rook chose to step away while tempers cooled.

the background blurb, as well as the weißhaupt mission preview, make it clear that even within the ranks of the grey wardens, there is a certain hierarchy, and that, for all of the valour and bravery, there are still flaws. while they take all into their ranks, it's only natural that there are still prejudices and resentments and struggles within the grey wardens and its individual members based to some extent on social structures that exist within thedas, like class and race.

i can easily see the friction here between a city elf, with an independent streak, disobeying direct orders, angering the chain of command and higher up wardens, particularly those with said connections.

i also really like the aspect of the background blurb that highlights that rook did so with no regard to the "cost to himself".

one of the first things that i had in my mind when i created leander was the idea of a grey warden that is close to their calling. i think, knowing that, would certainly factor into a lot of the decisions he makes.

leander was born in 9:41 dragon, making him 39 years of age. i do hc that he undertook the joing still very young, aged around 16:

Although Alistair claims that it takes a person about thirty years after the Joining to hear the Calling, this should be considered the upper limit. The gap varies depending on the willpower of an individual Warden and the level of their interaction with the darkspawn.

even taking the upper limit into account, it would give him until ~46.

what is seen as bravery and heroism by younger wardens, for leander, it's the he knowledge that he is living on borrowed time and what seemed so far away then is very close now.

TL;DR she’s a warrior-esque sort of girl, tomboy mulan vibes but extremely responsible older sister, straighforward but also warm and can be down for jolly fun times with friends & family every now and then. very morally upright & can hold grudges for a long time .

she grew intrigued with the art of sword-fighting as a little girl when she witnessed a friendly sword fighting competition at a family event. her intrigue then grew to one of fascination when she watched her brother and older male cousins being trained by their master-at-arms on a daily basis. it culminated with her begging her father to let her train to fight as well. it took a bit of time, but finally her amused father relented to the apple of his eye, thinking that she would grow tired of it soon enough and return to her embroidery and baking lessons, both of which were also of her hobbies and main interests at that time.

darliessa didn’t grow weary of it. in fact, her fascination expanded to learning about all sorts of weaponry, their history, their tricks, and how to best use them in battle as well as self-defense. learning archery, sword-fighting, axe-swinging, dagger art-play, she swallowed everything the master-at-arms had to teach her as well until in the end, the student became the master, even besting her own father at the age of 15. all thanks to her relentless spirit in training hard, an innate talent and open-minded to making mistakes & learning new things every single day in order to nurture her passion to the fullest. her father growing increasingly proud of his daughter, also had early on taught her the art of horse-riding and jousting as soon as she declared that her ambition was to be a knight.

when one of her closest male cousins came of age, she pleaded to be allowed to tag along with him in his touring and travels to dorne and essos . her request was eventually granted. it was during this time & at this places, where darliessa further enhanced her combative skills by learning new forms of fighting from different cultures, bringing her to further revere the art of fighting. it was also at this period of time where her dream goal was finally realized when Darliessa finally got knighted after she managed to demonstrate her exceptional skills and prowness in a battle and saving the life of an old but legendary Westerosi knight ( adventurous event to be futher detailed soon )

after finally returning home from her travels, she took about her other duties seriously due to the fact that she was next in line of succession after her father who is the current heir.

That was what the Star League Star Colonel had said - Binetti, Rowan de la Rosa remembered his name absent-mindedly as she stared at the viewscreen.

The members of the Neon Knights watched as a small dropshuttle vectored from the Canopian station - difficult to see, surrounded as it was by actual honest-to-God WarShips, all decked out with the SLDF star. What have we missed? Rowan thought.

The muffin-shaped shuttle beelined towards what was left of their ride - the Geranium Fever had gone completely unresponsive, so naturally the worst had been assumed - the comms officer zoomed in on the craft with the Pony's optical sensors. The proud red-and-black dragon insignia was plain to see against the slate grey of the shuttle's plating - as was, next to the dragon on either side, an SLDF Cameron Star. They weren't perfectly aligned with each other - probably means they'd been added later?

"It's a modified Dragonstar class transport shuttle, ma'am. Kuritan markings... the hell are the Kuritans doing in bed with the Clanners? It's squawking friendly ident, they haven't powered weapons, and their commo doesn't sound angry. So I doubt we're about to get vented," the officer snarked, before focusing on something in their headset.

"Hokay, they're sending a message - boarding team is being led by a..." the comms officer stopped mid-sentence, and swore in unbelieving Swedenese, though they recovered quickly and continued. "Led by a Tai-sa Ryūga Kurita, assigned to the... whoa. One of the Ryuken regiments, ma'am."

DCMS elite troops - the one's trained by the Wolf's Dragoons? An actual member of the Kurita family? What the hell have we jumped into here? thought Rowan.

"... also a Chu-sa Dahiya Ult Salah-Miyamoto? Assigned to the ... Hikage regiment? Never heard of them, must be new."

Another message made the comms officer focus again.

"ETA is... two minutes, they're burning hard. Looks like they've got other shuttles coming too, probably checking in on the Gerry and the other droppers."

The officer paused, and looked back to the others.

"We playing this cool?"

Rowan considered for a moment. A slight tremor buckled her knee, before she steadied herself with a hand on the good techie’s head. 

Dammit, not now.

“Aye, Xiong. Cool as cats,” she gave them a pat, “and speaking of cool cats- I want Charles and Jo to be part of the meet-and-greet, and with a quickness. Armed, but weapons holstered. Ags,” Rowan turns towards her XO. She had a white-knuckled grip on the other side of Xiong’s chair, but at least seemed to have steadied her breathing, instead glaring a hole in the Pony’s bulkhead, “I want you to take the conn while I meet the good Star Colonel.”

Agata flinched at Rowan’s words, but eased her grip on the chair nonetheless. “Understood, Commander. I have the deck.”

Some of the tension seemed to drop away from Agata’s shoulders at being given a task, like the strings holding her up were cut, but Rowan could tell she was still higher strung than a substation livewire.

Better to have her stay up here and stay cool. 

Rowan nodded, and turned in a parody of an about face to head on down to the airlock.

Time to meet the SLDF.

In the span of a hallway and an elevator ride, the tremor had made it’s way out of her leg and up to her arm.

Least this means I shouldn’t loose my balance in front of our guests.

She hard them before she saw them, around the corner. Quiet chatter, the sharp bark of Joana’s laughter cutting through Charles’ curt replies, nearly drowning him out.

None of Jo’s usual warmth.

No laconic drawl out of Charles.

Both were already posted up, and their conversation withered as she approached.

“Boss,” Charles spoke up, one furry ear twitching with nerves, “what’re we expecting?” 

Rowan fiddled with the zipper of her jumpsuit, finally working the shakes out of her hand as she replied, “They claim they’re SLDF, but they’re using Clanner ranks and talk with a stick up their ass. Maybe got some Dracs with them too, from the sound of things. I’unno just what their game is here, but we’re playin’ it cool. Leave me talkin’ with the good Star Colonel, an if y’all think you can swing it, chat up some of their boarding crew. We’re working on limited intel here, and-” the sound of the shuttle docking to the Pony’s airlock cut her off.

Rowan flicked open her sunglass, setting the round lenses over her eyes.

A deep breath in.

And slowly out.

- I prefer to write from a male or non-binary perspective but I can do female as well. I will happily write for trans readers or readers of other genders (if I am well informed)

- Rape (sexual assault maybe if it is angst but not in a smut only context)

What was the first Dragon Age game you played?

Origins! I've been here since the beginning. Alongside Fallout 3, it was one of the first RPG video games that absolutely ate my brain. I have fond memories of sitting on my futon playing DAO for like 16 hours straight, forgetting to eat and destroying my back.

2. Which Dragon Age game is your favorite so far?

This is always such a hard question for me to answer, because the three games are all so different, and I have deeply fond memories of all three of them, and I can also look at all three pretty frankly and see their flaws even as I still enjoy them. I think if I have to name a favorite though, it's still Dragon Age 2. Something about its structure and scale, the creative and unusual use of place and time, and its themes, really appeals to me. I've also come to really like the personality lock-in feature even though it does place some limitations on role-playing, and I love the friendship-rivalry system. I love it so much. I think it makes for much more interesting character relationships than simply "Does this character approve or disapprove of my actions?" Are there things about the other games that I prefer, of course. I want to be able to play as an elf or a dwarf or a qunari, for one. But even after all this time, DA2 still hits me a certain way. I love the other two games as well. There's just something about Kirkwall.

4. What does your worldstate look like going into DAV?

So I have like five or six world states and I don't consider any one of them more canon than the others, but I will be going into Veilguard for the first time with Rogues Gallery, which is exactly what it sounds like (and which means the one thing I know about my Rook is they'll be a rogue), featuring Jolene Cousland, Mallory Hawke, and Calla Cadash.

Basic rundown:

The Circle was saved, Connor and Isolde both lived, Zathrian broke the curse, and Harrowmont is King of Orzammar.

Jo romanced Alistair and convinced him to do the Dark Ritual.

They stayed Grey Wardens and rode off into the sunset together.

Anora is Queen of Ferelden.

Nathaniel is alive.

The Architect was spared.

Vigil's Keep and Amaranthine were protected.

Jo went off alone to find a cure for the Calling, and Alistair was left in the Fade.

Carver is dead, Bethany is alive and a Grey Warden.

Mal romanced Isabela. (In my headcanon, they later become a polycule with Merrill but of course that's not in the game.)

She rivaled everyone except the rogues and Merrill.

Bartrand is dead. Varric kept a piece of the idol.

Aveline did not marry Donnic.

Feynriel went to the Dalish, and then to Tevinter.

Clan Sabrae was killed.

Merrill did not destroy the Eluvian.

Mal refused to take any kind of a stand until the very end of Act III where she heaved a big sigh and sided with the mages.

She disapproved of Anders' actions but spared his life.

Mal is still alive and kicking.

Calla romanced Josephine.

She conscripted the rebel mages and the Grey Wardens.

Alistair was left in the Fade.

I left off with her right before Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts, so I am not sure of her decisions from her onward! But I do plan to finish this playthrough before Veilguard comes out. :)

8. What faction are you most excited to learn more about?

I'm pretty hype about all of them, but I'd say the Lords of Fortune and the Veil Jumpers the most since we know the least about them!

19. Are you planning to replay any of the previous games, watch Dragon Age: Absolution, or read any of the books/comics/short stories, or are there other games you want to play in the meantime?

I do plan to finish my current playthrough of Inquisition (Calla's playthrough) which is still incomplete. Beyond that, maybe I'll re-read some of my favorite Tevinter Nights stories. I spent about three years (2020-2023) playing the whole series on repeat like 5-6 times and reading and watching all the side content I could get my hands on, so... I'm probably good on that front. ;)

Final Fantasy XIV is getting a new expansion, Dawntrail, in just a couple weeks, so that should occupy a good chunk of my summer, and I expect I'll be ready to play some more Dragon Age in the fall in preparation for Veilguard! (Would love to get an actual release date, though.)
