So I remember Jojolion teasing that there was more to Speed King's power than just raising heat, and that nobody knew the full extent of its capabilities. In the end, this just turned out to be the additional ability to store heat as landmines, but my imagination has run a bit since then.
What if the stand's name alluded to the true nature of its power? It's typical of Jojo to reveal stand abilities in misleading ways, because they're introduced being utilized in a specific, creative manner that doesn't make its nature seem obvious at first glance. So what if Speed King was like that, as I speculated?
It doesn't have the power to heat things up, so much as... Speed King accelerates motion it interacts with; Like Made in Heaven but on a much smaller scale, and capable of affecting living beings. In this case, Speed King is using its power to accelerate the vibration of molecules, which is what generates heat; Thereby increasing the temperature.
That's the secret to Speed King's power; Heat is just an extension of that ability, a creative application. And there's a lot of other ways Jobin could exploit this power; He has some fancy cars, after all. He could speed up biological processes to mess with your blood flow, or make thrown objects faster than bullets. Falling rain droplets become piercing under the power of Speed King. Maybe this acceleration could even affect time itself... You could parallel this with Josuke discovering how his bubbles really work to unlock Go Beyond’s potential.

Wow the squandra post is popping off However today I have something completely different, that's Jobin and his Speed King... Now I do think I could've done Jobin a bit better here, so again I might just tweak him later or just redo the same pose, not sure. Speed King is perfect tho, you gotta admit. Absolutely love how it looks.

Vegeta vs. Hit!   (Guess who wins?)
(Hit wins.  They were never going to let Vegeta beat the final guy in the arc.)
Tumblr media
In brief, Hit seems to be incredibly fast, but not so fast that Vegeta can’t deal with it in his Super Saiyan Blue form.  But there seems to be something more to Hit’s movements than mere speed.  In the moment he attacks, Hit seems to vanish altogether, so Vegeta never actually sees the strikes until they’ve already happened.  So most of this fight is just Vegeta struggling to figure this out while Hit tees off on him.
Tumblr media
To his credit, Vegeta starts to figure it out when he anticipates Hit’s reaction to a direct assault.  Hit tries to punch him in the gut, and he does, but Vegeta manages to grab his wrist before he can step away.  Vegeta thinks this neutralizes Hit’s secret...
Tumblr media
But as he goes to punch Hit in the chin, Hit lands a second body blow with his free hand.  I think Vegeta mistakenly assumed that Hit was moving around while he vanished, and that holding on to him would keep him immobilized and unable to use his ability.  But it doesn’t work that way, and Vegeta’s taken too much damage to try again.  He collapses, and the referee declares Vegeta unable to continue.  The streak ends, and Hit wins.
Tumblr media
Goku asks Jaco if he noticed anything with his superior eyesight, but all Jaco could perceive was Hit disappearing for a fraction of a second.  Then, of all people, the Galactic King pipes up and suggests that Hit is manipulating time itself.  He’s heard of beings who are capable of such a thing, although they can only skip ahead for about a tenth of a second.
So I thought this was some sort of trick like “stopping time”, which is a lot easier to comprehend.  I find this more appealing, since Hit basically looks like an outer space version of Jotaro Kujo from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, and both characters are voiced by Matt Mercer in the English dubs.
But according to the Dragon Ball Wiki, time skipping is not the same thing as freezing time, although this is an ability Hit uses later on?  I guess?  So this implies that Hit’s time skip is more like King Crimson from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.  By this, I don’t mean that the two powers are the same.  No, I’m just observing that the two powers are alike in the sense that they’re very confusing, and I’m in no mood to try to understands what Hit is doing.
Tumblr media
Bulma reminds Jaco that he said time travel is a criminal offense, but Hit’s from Universe 6, so neither Jaco nor the Galactic King have any interest in arresting him. “Fuck this shit,” Jaco says.  “No one’s got time to figure out Hit’s bullshit Stand Ability.”
No, wait, I think I might have figured it out.  Okay, so what makes King Crimson so confusing is that he’s actually doing two bullshit powers at the same time.  He can look ahead a few seconds into the future, and see what’s going to happen.  On top of this, he can “erase” those few seconds.  The end result is that King Crimson can take certain actions during the erased time, improving his position thanks to his knowledge of what’s about to happen.  Meanwhile, everyone else is confused, because one moment they’re getting ready to peel a banana, and then suddenly they’ve already peeled it and taken a bite without realizing it.
Tumblr media
The reason I bring this up is that in one chapter of JJBA, King Crimson gets caught in a hail of bullets, and he can’t dodge, but he can use his power to erase the instant when the bullets would have hit him.  So in one instant the bullets are about to hit him, and then suddenly they’ve already passed him, and continue on their trajectory.  But KC is unharmed, because the moment of injury never actually took place.
Okay, so when Hit does his time skip, it’s sort of like the reverse of King Crimson’s thing.  Hit isn’t “erasing” time.  Vegeta’s fully aware of each instant as it passes.  But during that moment, Hit vanishes like he’s no longer part of it. Because he’s not.  Hit briefly “erases” himself from time, which means no one can see him or hear him or sense his presence while he’s moving.  This means he’s free to attack Vegeta, confident that Vegeta has no idea what he’s doing or from what angle he’s going to come from.
Tumblr media
But Hit can still see and hear and probably sense everything else while he’s doing this.  And that’s probably the meaning of this weird effect Toei uses to show his powers from his own POV.  It’s meant to show how Hit is interacting with the universe from outside of it.
This always confused me before, because the other characters in these shots were always standing still, or moving very slowly, but that’s only because these sequences are slowed down so the audience can follow Hit’s movements.
As Jaco explains it, a tenth of a second isn’t enough time for most people to use effectively, but when you have super speed like Hit, it’s plenty of time to win a battle.
Tumblr media
Of course, Goku doesn’t know what to do about this yet, so when he steps up to challenge Hit next, he decides to fight in base form while he stalls for time and gets the lay of the land.  Hit works him over just like he did to Vegeta.  He also calls Goku “young”, which is strange, considering Goku’s a grandfather, but Hit says he’s a thousand years old, so his assessment is still accurate.
Tumblr media
As with Vegeta, Hit offers Goku a chance to surrender, but Goku refuses, claiming he’s finally got a handle on how to fight back.  Hit thinks he’s bluffing, but when he tries his secret power again, Goku manages to block it.
Tumblr media
Was it a fluke?  No, because Goku manages to graze Hit with his fist.  How is Goku doing this?
Tumblr media
It’s actually pretty simple.  When Hit uses his power, it’s like he’s invisible and undetectable for a tenth of a second, but he’s still moving and fighting during that tenth of a second.  So all Goku has to do is anticipate what Hit will probably do during that time.  And since Goku has seen Hit in action for most of this episode, he’s gotten a decent handle on how Hit fights.
So does this mean Hit’s beaten?  Not quite, but Goku seems to have gotten past the problem that stymied Vegeta, and that’s something.

Lowkey more real than mint green but I tried. But Jobin, although kinda misguided, is actually a really interesting character. Like idk about you guys but I wasn’t sure if I hated him or liked him.

I really felt like drawing Speed King today. I had to recolor this twice, before I decided to mix both the colors together.  Please reblog if you can!
