Dad!Jisung waited with the other parents around his daughter’s classroom door. You made small talk with the parents around you while Jisung eagerly awaited his daughter’s adorable face bounding toward him.

Slowly, children ran to their parents until there was only two sets left. You and Jisung and another couple. The teacher beamed at the two of you, “well, if it isn’t the in-laws!”

Jisung chokes on his saliva as he chokes out a, “what?” He prayed this lady was succumbing f to her age and this was some kind of mental lapse. Well, no. That was bad. He hoped she was just thinking of someone else.

The teacher, an older woman, sweet and experienced with young kids, “well, we had a little wedding happen at recess today. Your little girl married their little boy. It was the sweetest thing!”

Your daughter comes bounding out of the classroom with dried flowers in her hair and hand in hand with her new ‘husband.’ “Mama! Appa! He’s my husband, like you guys!” She cheers excitedly.

Jisung feels his heart drop into the pit of his stomach, he knows it’s not real! He knows that! Who would ordain a 4 year old? No one does that… right? It wasn’t valid. Child marriage didn’t suddenly become legal today did it?

“Congratulations, my princess!” You smile, pulling her into your arms with a large kiss to her cheek.

The girl waves goodbye to the little boy and Jisung feels relief seep into his bones as they walk in the opposite direction. Even as you strap her into her car seat Jisung feels himself just feel… off as she gushes about her wedding.

“What’s your little friend’s name anyway?” Jisung asks as he pulls the car out of the parking lot.

Her excited giggles fill the small space of the car, “his name is Jisung!”

Jisung slams on the brake, “that’s my name!”

“It’s his name too! I like him!”

“You can’t marry a boy that has Appa’s name!” Jisung argues.

“You can share!” His daughter stresses.

Jisung grumbles under his breath as he starts driving again and he hears your daughter begin to explain every little detail about this kid, Jisung. He hears about how he shares his snacks, he draws her pictures, and he gave her flowers. There could be worse boys for her to fake marry. She could have married that little shit that gave her the flu last year. Or the other little shit that used to bite her. Maybe this Jisung kid isn’t so bad…

“He sounds like a very nice boy, sweet girl. Maybe you can invite him over for a playdate,” you smile at her through the rear view mirror.

“I can’t just have Jisung over! If Jisung comes then Mimi has to come too! She’s our dog!” His daughter explains.

You laugh, “baby, Mimi can’t be your dog. She’s a girl.”

��Yeah, she’s our girl dog! And then Channie had to come to because he’s our son!” She continues to explain.

“Your son?! You can’t have a baby, you’re a baby!” Jisung exclaims. Yeah, maybe this Jisung kid is worse than he thought!

“No! I’m a big girl!”

“You’re 4!” Jisung points out, “you’re my baby.”

“No! I wanna be big!” She whines, laying her head against the side of her car seat tiredly.

“Appa is being silly, Princess. He’s being crabby right now. Jisung, Mimi, and Channie can come over if their parents say yes, ok?” You soothe her as her eyes droop tiredly.

“Thank you mama,” she yawns as Jisung turns down your street.

The little girl is fast asleep by the time the car comes to a stop and Jisung finds himself holding her a little tighter as he takes her to her room. He feels some sense of distress, like she’s growing up to fast. Marriage, kids, boyfriends, this wasn’t supposed to happen for at least 20 years. She’s not even 5 yet!

He presses a kiss to her forehead as he returns to you with a sad sigh. He feels a knot in his throat while he holds you close. “She’s growing up too fast,” Jisung mumbles sadly.

You slide him half your sandwich and use a bite of food to keep yourself distracted as you mumble, “maybe the next baby won’t grow up as fast.”

park jisung was the boy that everyone had an eye for. he was good looking, smart, funny, sweet, and he always shared his gum.

“jisung, can i have some gum” somebody asked, then another, and another.

you didn’t really see the appeal of jisung’s gum, but you were curious to understand. you approached the crowd of people surrounding the popular boy’s desk, and your heart skipped a beat at the sight of the class celebrity. after a minute of staring, you built up the courage to say something. “can…” you stuttered. “i have a piece of gum?”

your sudden interruption took the attention away from jisung and heads turned to face you.

jisung raised his eyebrows at your request. “sorry. im all out.” he regretted to tell you.

your face was pink with embarrassment and you slowly backed yourself away from the table, so the group just went back to talking. “so jisung. do you like anybody?”

hearing that, you figured you should just give up on him now before you try too hard and get hurt.

You cried a little harder at his words as you fell into his arms and held him tightly, "I know you may not see this as progress baby, but it really is. The month of February has always been a regular month for you. And Valentine’s Day has always just been a day for you.

That was until you met Kang Taehyun, the guy who sits in front of you in Relationship Counseling, and your crush for the semester. You had fallen for his charisma, charms, & smart brain. The way that if you leaned a bit forward in your seat you could see the perfectly organized notes from the pre class reading next to his notes from class. How his veiny hands delicately held his favorite gel pen.

God, you felt like such a loser.

It’s almost been a month into the spring semester, and you haven’t uttered a single word to him, let alone held eye contact with him for longer than a few seconds. Every time you stare longingly at him, and he looks back, you immediately look away in embarrassment. This has been the routine for yourself every Monday and Wednesday from 10 AM to 11:15 AM.

“Seriously, you should talk to him.” Jisung tells you as you pick at your lunch.

He’s right, but you don’t want to give him the satisfaction, so you roll your eyes as you drink water from your emotional support reuseable bottle.

“Your birthday present to me can be striking up a conversation next class which also happens to be his birthday too.”

You should listen to your best friend as he would know. Park Jisung, born on February 5th, 2002, and shared every class (and many class birthday parties) with Taehyun in elementary and middle school. They were best friends until they naturally grew apart during high school, but Jisung claims that even though he hasn’t directly spoken to Taehyun since they were 15 that he’s still the same.

You believe him. Taehyun is just like the popular character in movies and tv shows – the kind of popular person who deserves to be popular because they’re kind to others. It just makes you want him more.

At least the version you have romanticized in your head.

“Oh yeah!” Jisung blurts out as he reaches into his backpack to pull out a gift.

You hesitantly accept the gift. “Don’t tell me you’re confessing your undying love for me that you kept a secret since high school.”

He lets out an exaggerated gasp, “How did you know?”

Rolling your eyes at his sarcasm, you unwrap the gift to be greeted by the sight of a small, clear heart-shaped bottle with light pink liquid inside. There’s no label to indicate what’s inside and nothing else in the wrapping paper.

“Thanks for the, um, mystery bottle?”

“Mom says it’s a love potion made by a matchmaker she met on her cruise. You’re supposed to spray it on like perfume. She specifically bought it for you.”

“Oh great, your mom thinks I’m bitchless.” You set the love potion on the table. “Not that I believe in that stuff, but there’s no instructions.”

Jisung shrugs as he eats his lunch. “Beats me.”

“Today we’re talking about communication.”

The people around let out a collective sigh as your professor cues up the powerpoint presentation.

“For today’s attendance activity, I want you to find a partner and come up with some reasons why it’s important for couples to effectively communicate with each other.”

Leaning down, you reach into your bag to grab your textbook and brush your fingers over Jisung’s mom’s gift. You glance around you to see the people in row sitting in other areas of the classroom, so you spritz the so-called love potion on your shirt. What the hell, sure.

This is your chance to finally talk to Taehyun. Tell him about your crush on him or at least say “hi”. You lean forward and tap him on his shoulder. Your breathing halts as he turns around to face you with his face sculpted by the gods and big, beautiful sparkly eyes that are now focusing on you.

Taking a moment to calm yourself, you smile and say, “Hi, could we be partners?”

“Of course. I’m Taehyun.”

“I know.”

He smiles as you mentally cringe at your response. You introduce yourself and turn back to your textbook to find the chapter on communication. The next 20 is spent brainstorming 5 reasons for couple effective communication, mainly Taehyun talking and you just agreeing with him.

“Time’s up. Lily and Jay will present their reasons.”

Taehyun gives you one last smile as he turns back around to the front of the class as you lean back in your seat. You’re proud of yourself for actually talking to him.

You know the love potion is just chemicals mixed together that smell like warm brown sugar, but you can’t help but feel a little disappointed when Taehyun didn’t randomly blurt out an “i love you”, let alone talk to you the rest of class. It was silly to think that magic exists.

“ynnnnn.” jisung said in an especially deep voice.

“stop jisung you’re doing this on purpose.”

he wrapped his lanky arms around your back and hugged you tightly, looking down at you in his arms. “you try. try to talk as deep as i do.”

you laughed at his request. “okay..”

you tilted your head down and mustered up all the strength you had in your throat, nearly straining your vocal chords, but barely a whisper came out.

jisung threw his head back laughing. he adored you.

you couldn’t help but notice how his adam’s apple moved when he laughed. curiously, you took a closer look and tapped it. “how do you do that?” you said.

flustered, he put his hand on his neck, where you had just touched. “you’re very cute, yn.”

its your birthday, and he's holding something behind his back

he pulls it out from behind him

it's a photo album of all the moments he's captured of you without you noticing

idk why i thought of this as the first thing that came to my mind but

a boy who had to grow up too fast (i'm in love with soft chenle)

he has always felt responsibility for everyone around him

never had time to process what was going on

truly cared for everyone he met

you saw him one day at the grocery store, looking at his list, then at the items, confused, frustrated

you walk up to him

"do you need help?"

he shakes his head

then hesitates

his face softens

"yes, please" he says gently

you wanted to take care of him as soon as you saw him

now that the two of you are closer he shows you the side to him that not many people get to see

his crazy laughs where he throws his head back and cackles

when he bounces up and down like a puppy

asks you for reassurance

you were so in love with this boy.

and he didn't know how to tell you, but he was in love with you too.

3. jisung park

the boy who never really got the chance to feel alive.

jisung was always silent

you were neighbors, and you always saw him walking around

earbuds in, face grim, hoodie on

one day you see him walking outside late at night, and you run out to meet him

why were your legs carrying you towards this boy?

"jisung, i know you don't know me very well, but- wanna go for a drive?"

hesitation flashes across his face

"now...?" he says, genuinely confused

"come on."

he goes with you

is silent the entire way

you pull up to a beach

he steps out, eyes wide in wonder

"have you never been to a beach?"

it ends up being your place.

the two of you visit every week, and just walk around, looking at the stars

one day, about a month later, you follow him as he runs towards the sea, arms out wide as he engulfs the fresh air.

you meet gazes and his eyes crinkle as he mouths to you:

"thank you."

"thank you so much."
