Flipkart and FICCI to Conduct E-Commerce Workshop Series for MSMEs
Flipkart, the e-commerce marketplace owned by American retail giant Walmart, has partnered with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) to launch a workshop series aimed at Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME). The workshops, to be conducted across India starting with Ahmedabad in November, will be themed ‘Winning big with e-commerce’, and will aim to help MSMEs understand the e-commerce industry, how it can help them, and how they can build their business and increase brand visibility. According to Flipkart, its representatives will address specific accounting and taxation issues, access to capital, how to identify new opportunities, the importance of brand building online, how to build and scale their brands, and supply chain management and inventory planning for e-commerce. These workshops will then move to other Indian cities, including Bhubaneshwar, Chandigarh, Guwahati, and Nagpur.
PayPal Acquires Online Deal-Finding Company for USD 4 billion
PayPal, the American online payment company, is acquiring Honey Science Corporation, a company that operates a deal-finding browser add-on and mobile application, for USD 4 billion, mostly cash. Honey, which has 17 million monthly active users, tracks sales and retailers’ promo codes, provides consumers with the option to browse the best offers, and automatically selects the best cost-saving promo code while checking out on online shopping sites. The company also rolled out a price-tracking feature which informs shoppers of an item’s price history. Honey’s browser extension now works across approximately 30,000 websites, including fashion, technology, travel, and even pizza delivery sites. It claims that its users have saved a total of more than USD 2 billion till date.
With this acquisition, PayPal will now gain a giant foothold in the online shopping market, featuring earlier in the consumer’s shopping experience rather than just on the payment page, where it currently competes against credit cards or Apple Pay, for instance. PayPal has been facing increased competition from giants like Apple, Google, and Facebook, who have recently begun entering the payments market, apart from its traditional competitors in credit card companies.
E-Commerce Sites Top List of Consumer Complaints in India
According to data from the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, e-commerce companies topped the list of consumer complaints received on the government’s national helpline, with one in every five complaints directed against an e-commerce company. The list was led by Flipkart, Reliance Jio, and Amazon. More than 100,000 of the 500,000 plus complaints were against e-commerce companies, with banks following with 41,600, and telecom garnering 29,400. A ministry official said that the increase in the number of complaints against e-commerce companies was likely due to the growth in their consumer base. Most of the complaints against the e-commerce companies pertained to spurious products, problems in exchange, and delayed delivery, while those against telecom companies were related to overbilling, data deduction, and connectivity problems.
The government has responded to increasing dissatisfaction among consumers by shoring up its grievance redressal mechanism. The Ministry launched a mobile application where consumers could register their complaints, which would be redressed within 60 days. The government has also published draft e-commerce rules which focusses on e-commerce companies’ obligations and mechanisms of grievance redressal. Another ministry official claimed that companies, however, were responding well to complaints—of 565,000 complaints received last year, 555,000 were resolved, and a similar resolution rate is expected this year.
Shutterstock Offers Affordable Music Licensing for Content Creators
Shutterstock, the American provider of stock photography, is expanding its offerings to include music. It has launched an unlimited music subscription plan for USD 149 per month, giving content creators and digital marketers access to more than 11,000 tracks that can be included in web-based content, like YouTube videos, podcasts, and conference presentations. The Shutterstock Music Library, which will be searchable by genre, mood, or popularity, has been curated by professional musicians, and hundreds of tracks will be added every month. According to Shutterstock, this is a cost-effective feature for marketers lacking the budget and resources to pursue high-end music productions, and “frees them to focus on the creative vision rather than worrying about budget”.
Amazon’s Music Streaming Service is Now Free
Online retail giant Amazon is now offering its music streaming service free, with advertisements. While it previously offered free, ad-supported music streaming to owners of its smart device Echo, it is now expanding a 2 million song catalogue same to all customers. This is the same catalogue offered to those who have subscribed to Amazon’s Prime membership, albeit with advertisements.
This move won’t ruffle any feathers among major music streaming services like Spotify or Apple Music, considering Amazon’s music catalogue is much smaller, and is not supported by personalisation technology as advanced as what drives Spotify’s Discover Weekly playlist, for instance. Amazon’s move, instead, is aimed at making its Prime subscription more appealing to its consumers, encouraging them to subscribe to remove ads. Amazon’s Prime subscription is one of the company’s major focuses, as Prime members will shop more often from Amazon’s e-commerce site, which is where its profits primarily lie.
Amazon Echo Will Now Play Spotify’s Free Music Service
Swedish-American music streaming provider Spotify, whose service previously worked with Amazon Echo only for premium subscribers, has now extended support on the smart device for its free tier users. Similar support will now also be available on smart speakers manufactured by American audio manufacturing company Bose and consumer electronics company Sonos. This news comes on the heels of Amazon’s announcement that its own music service would become free across devices. Though Amazon’s limited 2 million song catalogue doesn’t make it much of a competitor to Spotify, which boasts of over 50 million songs as well as powerful personalisation capabilities, Spotify’s stock dropped almost 5% following Amazon’s announcement.
Apple Finally Enters the B2B Streaming Market
Technology behemoth Apple has finally announced its much-anticipated move into the Business-to-Business (B2B) streaming market, with department store Harrods and clothing company Levi’s already using Apple’s music streaming service Apple Music in their stores. While regular Apple Music or Spotify subscriptions do not permit use on commercial premises, providing B2B streaming at additional costs has long seemed an obvious way for streaming services to generate extra revenue.
Streaming services Pandora and Sirius already offer B2B services in the US, while there are companies like Mood Media and Playnetwork whose primary business is providing music to retail clients. Apple seemed to confirm its plans to enter the market when it registered trademarks for Apple Music for Business last year, and Spotify has demonstrated interest in retail-focussed Soundtrack Your Brand, which published a study in 2018 estimating that the music industry was missing out on revenues worth USD 2.65 billion per year by not exploiting B2B streaming to its fullest.
Streaming Service Mubi Launches in India
12-year old movie streaming and rental service Mubi has launched in India. Unlike more well-known streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime, Mubi’s primary selling point is its selection of critically acclaimed movies. Mubi also maintains a stark difference from its larger competitors in the market by maintaining a small catalogue of just 30 movies at any given point, with every new title being accompanied by the exit of an existing one; no movie stays longer than 30 days on the platform. Founded in 2007, Mubi initial business plan mirrored that of services like Netflix. However, realising financial constraints, Mubi rerouted itself into its current form of offering a very limited selection, focussing on lesser-known critical gems.
Having amassed 9 million subscribers worldwide, Mubi has launched in India at a much lower price point than in other countries—much like other streaming services. It has also, for the first time, launched a dedicated channel for local movies. With access to both the local and global channels, Indian subscribers will have access to 60 movies. Mubi has appointed Academy Award-winning film producer Guneet Monga, of Gangs of Wasseypur– and Lunchbox-fame, as its content advisor.
Frozen 2 Release Accompanied by Record 67 Brand Deals in India
The release of Frozen 2, Disney’s sequel to its 2013 animated blockbuster, in India has been anteceded by a flurry of merchandising as Disney India has signed sponsorship deals with a record 67 brands, the highest such number for an animated movie in the country. These partnerships involve brands like toy retailer Hamleys, fashion brands Max and Reliance Trends, clothing chain Pantaloons, and e-commerce company Flipkart.
A special Frozen collection has been launched by Pantaloons for young girls, which includes joggers, leggings, sweatshirts, sweater dresses, and footwear. Hasbro, the toy and board games company, will roll out a range of new dolls and playsets inspired by the two protagonists, Elsa and Anna, while multinational conglomerate ITC has launched a line of stationery products including notebooks, geometry boxes, and colouring sets based on the movie. Paint company Asian Paints has introduced a series of wall décor derived from the film, while Flipkart will be selling Frozen themed merchandise across categories. This amassing of deals is symptomatic of a trend of increasing localisation and marketing initiatives by Hollywood studios in India.

The 6 paise per minute charge are created through IUC indefinite quantity vouchers. 2. Jio is providing four new IUC plans that conjointly go along with further knowledge edges so as to make sure there's no increase in tariff for purchasers. -- The Rs ten set up offers 124 IUC minutes to non-Jio numbers and 1GB further knowledge. -- The Rs twenty set up offers 249 IUC minutes and 2GB knowledge. -- The Rs fifty set up offers 656 IUC minutes and 5GB knowledge -- The Rs one hundred set up offers one,362 IUC minutes and 10GB knowledge. 3. Jio assures that the half-dozen paise per minute charge can solely apply for Jio users line of work non-Jio users. All Jio to Jio calls can still stay free as can all incoming calls, Jio to phone line calls and calls created mistreatment WhatsApp, FaceTime and alternative similar platforms. 4. Jio says that it's been hit by the worth differential of free voice on Jio network and high tariff on 2G networks on Airtel and Vodafone-Idea. Jio says it receives 25-30 large integer uncomprehensible calls daily by 2G users, which ends in 65-75 large integer minutes of outgoing traffic instead of incoming traffic. 5. 2 years past, TRAI brought down IUC charge from fourteen paise to six paise per minute with associate intention to scrap the charge from Jan one, 2020. because of the high tariff on 2G networks, Jio is presently web|internet|cyber web|net|cyberspace|information superhighway|world wide web|Infobahn} money handler of IUC whereas Airtel and Vodafone plan square measure net revenue gainers, Economic Times reports. "So far, within the last 3 years Jio has paid nearly Rs thirteen,500 large integer as web IUC charges to the opposite operators," Jio aforementioned within the statement. 6. TRAI recently set to hunt views on delaying zero IUC charge as there square measure still voluminous 2G subscribers UN agency haven't enraptured to VoLTE, thus it looks unlikely that the zero-IUC regulation can inherit result any time presently. 7. Analyst say that Jio's move can profit rivals Airtel and Vodafone-Idea, that has been hurt financially for the past few years because of the ultra-low tariffs offered by Jio. Now, Airtel and Vodafone-Idea could use this chance to hike voice rates, transportation associate finish to the tariff war. 8. Vodafone plan skillful Jio's move during a statement expression that the announcement "comes closely to the action taken recently to doubtless hurt revenues of alternative operators with its recent unilateral action of reducing ringing time." the corporate adds, "Vodafone plan operates basis the singular principle of pro-consumer and pro-choice. consequently, our offerings square measure fully clear, reasonable and cater to a cross section of society and customers with variable consumption wants via multiple technologies 2G, 3G and 4G." 9. Airtel conjointly issued an announcement wherever it reiterates Vodafone Idea's position that the telecommunication business is during a state of deep money stress. The adoption of VoLTE has been slow whereas 2G subscribers square measure still high, inflicting associate imbalance in traffic. "Given the huge 2G client base in India, value|the value|the price} of the decision at half-dozen paise is already considerably below the important cost of finishing the decision." 10. Jio says the IUC rate are charged until the time TRAI moves to zero termination charge, that is anticipated to happen by New Year's Eve, 2019. Conclusion Why is Jio doing this? Jio needs the TRAI to travel for zero IUC charge which looks to be happening by early 2020. whereas different operators charge their customers for calls, Jio offers free calls on its network and therefore, it's connected losses as Jio pays the IUC charge for each decision created to a different network. "The change to the IUC laws in 2017 was once goodly deliberations and consultations. during this background the consultation paper has created regulative uncertainty and so Jio has been compelled, most reluctantly and inevitably, to recover this regulative charge of vi paise per minute for all off-net mobile voice calls farewell as IUC charges exist," says Jio. When can the IUC charges finish for Jio customers? "Jio once more assures its thirty five large integer customers that the vi paise per minute charge on outgoing off-net mobile calls shall continue solely until the time TRAI abolishes IUC, in line with its gift regulation," says Jio. KKR to invest $1.5 billion in India’s Reliance Jio Platforms
Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio Platforms has agreed to sell 2.32% stake to U.S. equity firm KKR in what is the fifth major investment in the top Indian telecom firm in just as many weeks.
On Friday, KKR announced it will invest $1.5 billion in the Indian top telecom operator, a subsidiary of India’s most valued firm (Reliance Industries), joining fellow American investors Facebook, Silver Lake, Vista Equity Partners, and General Atlantic that have made similar bets on the Indian firm that has amassed over 388 million subscribers.
The investment from KKR, which has written checks to about 20 tech companies including ByteDance and GoJek to date, values Reliance Jio Platforms at $65 billion.
The announcement today further shows the growing appeal of Jio Platforms, which has raised $10.35 billion in the past month by selling about 17% of its stake to foreign investors that are looking for a slice of the world’s second-largest internet market.
Ambani, the chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries and who has poured more than $30 billion to build Jio Platforms, said the company was looking forward to leverage “KKR’s global platform, industry knowledge and operational expertise to further grow Jio.”
Reliance Jio, which launched in the second half of 2016, upended India’s telecommunications industry with cut-rate data plans and free voice calls. Jio Platforms, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries, operates the telecom venture, called Jio Infocomm, that has become the top telecom operator in India.
Reliance Jio Platforms also owns a bevy of digital apps and services including music streaming service JioSaavn (which it says it will take public), on-demand live television service and payments service, as well as smartphones, and broadband business.
“Few companies have the potential to transform a country’s digital ecosystem in the way that Jio Platforms is doing in India, and potentially worldwide. Jio Platforms is a true homegrown next generation technology leader in India that is unmatched in its ability to deliver technology solutions and services to a country that is experiencing a digital revolution,” Henry Kravis, co-founder and co-chief executive of KKR, said in a statement.
“We are investing behind Jio Platforms’ impressive momentum, world-class innovation and strong leadership team, and we view this landmark investment as a strong indicator of KKR’s commitment to supporting leading technology companies in India and Asia Pacific,” he added.
The new capital should also help Ambani, India’s richest man, further solidify his last year’s commitment to investors when he pledged to cut Reliance’s net debt of about $21 billion to zero by early 2021 — in part because of the investments it has made to build Jio Platforms. Its core business — oil refining and petrochemicals — has been hard hit by the coronavirus outbreak. Its net profit in the quarter that ended on March 31 fell by 37%.
In the company’s earnings call last month, Ambani said several firms had expressed interest in buying stakes in Jio Platforms in the wake of the deal with Facebook .
The investments also pave the way for an initial public offering of Jio, which could happen within five years.

Facebook Wanted to Buy 10% of Reliance Jio: Report
New Post has been published on https://magzoso.com/tech/facebook-wanted-to-buy-10-of-reliance-jio-report/
Facebook Wanted to Buy 10% of Reliance Jio: Report
Facebook was reportedly in talks with Reliance Jio to purchase 10% of the Indian telco, according to a report in the Financial Times. According to the paper, this 10% stake was being valued in billions of dollars. The report also added that aside from the social media giant, Reliance Jio was also in separate talks with Google.
As per the FT report (paywall), Facebook and Reliance Jio had been in talks which only halted recently owing to global travel bans because of the coronavirus outbreak, according to two people familiar with the matter.
According to a report published in November, Jio’s valuation is somewhere between $65-70 billion (or approximately between Rs 5,000 crore and Rs 5,350 crore), so a 10% stake would be somewhere between $6.5 — 7 billion.
Reliance Jio soft launched in 2015, but started its public operations in 2016. In just three years, it has become the largest telecom operator in India with over 370 million subscribers, and created a huge disruption in the market, offering free calls and extremely cheap data, which has continued to have lasting effects in the telecom business to this date.
For companies like Facebook, Jio could represent a doorway into India and also into a market with complex regulatory challenges — something that a large local player like Reliance has a greater degree of insight into.
Facebook has run up against numerous challenges in India, from the resistance to the launch of its free Internet program called Free Basics, to the difficulties it has faced in launching payments over UPI with WhatsApp, or even the various calls from the government to remove encryption from the popular messaging service.
The two companies have not offered any comments at the moment.

Jio, Airtel, Vodafone Idea Hike Prices, Nokia 2.3 Launch, Vivo V17 India Unveilling, and More News This Week
Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone Idea this week revised their mobile tariffs – easily the biggest news of the week. Apart from that, WhatsApp made its fair share of headlines, while HMD Global launched the Nokia 2.3 budget smartphone, Vivo India set a launch date for the Vivo V17, the Vikram Lander was spotted by NASA with the help of an Indian software engineer, Realme revealed when the Realme XT 730G would be launched in the country, while Xiaomi also revealed the the RedmiBook 13 would be launched next week.
Jio new plan prices announced
Reliance Jio this week announced a hike in its mobile tariffs, seeing a raise of 39 percent. The company however claims that there are 300 percent more benefits with its new All-in-One plans compared to previous offerings. The new plans went live on Friday, though the company had announced the rough price hike last weekend, and the actual plans on Wednesday. Jio new plan prices start from Rs. 199 and go up to Rs. 2,199. The telco says the new All-in-One plans bring benefits such as a daily high-speed data quota, unlimited Jio-to-Jio voice calling, and minutes for non-Jio voice calls, beyond which a 6 paise per minute charge will be applied. As with previous Jio offerings, the All-in-One plans also provide Jio app benefits. The Jio Rs. 199 plan has a validity of 28 days, and offers 1.5GB of daily data, unlimited Jio-to-Jio calls, as well as 1,000 non-Jio voice calling minutes. On the other hand, the Rs. 2,199 prepaid plan offers a long-term validity of 365 days, and for that period offers 1.5GB of daily data, unlimited Jio-to-Jio calls, apart from 12,000 non-Jio voice call minutes. Other All-in-One plans are Rs. 249, Rs. 349, Rs. 399, Rs. 444, Rs. 555, and Rs. 599. All the above plans come with a SMS quota of 100 messages per day. Separately, Jio this week had introduced the Rs. 1,776 prepaid plan with a validity of 336 days. The plan is a 4x Rs. 444 plan, offering the same benefits as the Rs. 444 plan except across a longer validity – these include unlimited Jio-to-Jio calls, 4,000 minutes of Jio to non-Jio calls, 2GB data FUP per day, 100 SMS messages per day, as well as access to Jio apps.
Airtel new plan prices, no FUP on unlimited plans
Of course, Jio wasn't the only operator that raised prices this week, with Airtel and Vodafone Idea making similar moves. The two operators posted massive losses this past quarter on provisioning for overdue payments and penalties, which formed a large part of the reasoning behind the price hikes by the operators. Airtel announced its price hike back on Sunday, and the new plan prices range from Rs. 19 all the way up to Rs. 2,398. Airtel's new plans are touted to offer unlimited voice calling, bundled SMS messages, and more. The increases work out to a minimum increase of 50 paise per day to Rs. 2.85 per day. The new Rs. 19 prepaid plan offers unlimited voice calling benefits, 150MB data, and 100 SMS messages per day for two days. The Rs. 148 prepaid plan offers unlimited voice calls, 300 SMS messages per day, and 2GB data for 28 days. The Rs. 248 plan offers unlimited voice calls, 100 SMS messages per day, and 1.5GB daily data, while the Rs. 298 plan has the same benefits except for 2GB daily data. These last three plans have a validity of 28 days. The new Airtel Rs. 598 plan has the same benefits as the Rs. 248 plan, except with a 84-day validity, while the Rs 698 plan has the same benefits as the Rs. 298 plan, but once again with a 84-day validity. The Rs. 1,498 plan offers unlimited voice calls, 3,600 SMS messages, and 24GB of data across 365 days, while the Rs. 2,398 plan offers unlimited calling, 100 SMS messages per day, and 1.5GB of data per day. Separately, Airtel this week made another major revision to its prepaid plans. As per the company, based on customer feedback, it took the decision to remove FUP limits on free calling to other networks. Interestingly, Jio is still maintaining its FUP limits, while Vodafone Idea followed Airtel to remove them late this week. Airtel was also in the news this week when it admitted a flaw in its mobile app could have exposed the data of millions of its users. The flaw was spotted in the mobile app's API by security researcher Ehraz Ahmed, who had recently found a Truecaller API flaw and shared it with Gadgets 360. Airtel fixed it before the exploit was published. Vodafone Idea latest plans, FUP calling limit removed As we've mentioned, Vodafone Idea joined Airtel and Reliance Jio this week to hike its mobile tariffs. Its new plans include four monthly prepaid unlimited packs - Rs. 149, Rs. 249, Rs. 299, and Rs. 399 – all of which offer unlimited voice calling, between 1.5GB and 3GB of data per day, and between 100 and 300 SMS messages a day. As monthly plans, all four have a validity of 28 days. Coming to the three-month or 84-day validity plans, Vodafone is offering three options - Rs. 379, Rs. 599, and Rs. 699. Benefits include unlimited voice calls, up to 2GB of data per day, and up to 100 SMS messages per day. There are also two unlimited packs with a 365-day validity, priced at Rs. 1,499 and Rs. 2,399. These annual plans offer up to 1.5GB of data per day, and up to 100 SMS messages per day. Vodafone Idea has also introduced a 2-day validity pack at Rs. 19. There are also combo vouchers offering limited voice call minutes – they are available in denominations of Rs. 49 and Rs. 79. Finally, there are now four new first recharge options, priced at Rs. 97, Rs. 197, Rs. 297, and Rs. 647. While all the above unlimited plans were revised to include an FUP limit on free outgoing voice calls to other networks, as we mentioned, Vodafone Idea this week followed Airtel by removing the FUP limit. Now, all its unlimited plans have unlimited free outgoing calls to other networks, such as Jio, Airtel, and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL). BSNL unveils new plans with reduced validity, telcos seek floor price BSNL this week revised two low-value prepaid plans - Rs. 29 and Rs. 47. The company has reduced the validity of the Rs. 29 plan from 7 days to 5 days. It continues to offer unlimited voice calls, 1GB of data, and a quota of 300 SMS messages. On the other hand, the Rs. 47 BSNL prepaid plan has had its validity reduced from 9 days to 7 days. It offers 250 minutes of voice calls a day, and 1GB of data. The telco has also withdrawn its Rs. 7, Rs. 9, and Rs. 192 prepaid plans. Telcos this week also petitioned the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to set a floor price for data services, while also asking for a continuation of forbearance for voice services. COAI Director General Rajan Mathews in a letter to TRAI said the tariff correction in the current level of fierce competition is not possible by any service provider voluntarily and thus the only option available is prescription of a minimum tariff for mobile data service by the Authority. WhatsApp Kashmir disappearances and new features WhatsApp was in the news this week for several reasons, the most notable of which was the disappearance of WhatsApp users residing in Kashmir from chat groups. The news headlines this week when it was noticed that users from the region were exiting groups. While initially there was some suspicion as to the reasons for the disappearance, it was later revealed that users were exiting automatically thanks to their accounts having been inactive for 120 days. To recall, the Internet services in Kashmir were shut down in early August, and earlier this week marked the 120th day of the blockade. This meant that those users who were residing in the region and unable to access their account thanks to the lack of Internet connectivity, were having their accounts deactivated thanks to a standing WhatsApp policy to maintain security and limit data retention. “WhatsApp accounts generally expire after 120 days of inactivity. When that happens, those accounts automatically exit all their WhatsApp groups. People will need to be re-added to groups upon regaining access to the Internet and joining WhatsApp again,” the Facebook-owned company revealed. What's more, is that if WhatApp users are unable to access their accounts within 30 days from the point of deactivation, their accounts will be permanently deleted. This means those users will lose their chat logs, images, videos, and other videos shared, unless they are able to back up their accounts in time. Separately, this week, beta versions of WhatsApp for Android were spotted with more Dark Mode elements. Unfortunately, the WhatsApp Dark Mode elements are not accessible by users, and are disabled by default. The new Dark Mode elements include avatar images and the VoIP screen. Finally, WhatsApp this week brought call waiting to its Android app. This lets users on a WhatsApp call choose to switch to a second incoming WhatsApp call. However, this would mean that users would cancel the call they are already on – meaning, there is no call holding. The feature was introduced for WhatsApp for iPhone late last month. The update for Android also more widely rolled out the new group privacy settings and fingerprint lock features. Nokia 2.3 launched HMD Global this week launched the Nokia 2.3. The company's latest budget smartphone was unveiled at an event in Cairo, Egypt. The Nokia 2.3 is being called a camera and entertainment-focused budget smartphone. The smartphone comes with a dedicated Google Assistant button, a dual rear camera setup, a large display, and a ‘two-day battery life'. While there is no exact India availability information, we can expect the Nokia 2.3 to make its way to the country soon. The Nokia 2.3 price has been set at EUR 109 (roughly Rs. 8,600), and it will start hitting shelves from mid-December. Specifications include dual-SIM (Nano) card slots, Android 9.0 Pie, a 6.2-inch HD+ (720x1520 pixels) in-cell display, a MediaTek Helio A22 SoC, 2GB of RAM, a dual rear camera setup (13-megapixel + 2-megapixel), a 5-megapixel front camera, 32GB of inbuilt storage expandable via microSD card (up to 400GB), and a 4,000mAh battery. Vivo V17 India launch date Vivo India this week announced a launch date for the Vivo V17. The smartphone will be unveiled in India tomorrow, Monday, December 9. For now, there is still some mystery surrounding the phone, despite a phone with the same model number having been launched in Russia late last month. This is because the model launched in Russia features a waterdrop-style display notch, while the company is teasing a hole-punch display for India. The company has also confirmed a 32-megapixel front camera – the same as the Russia model. Other Vivo V17 India variant specifications include an L-shaped quad rear camera setup, a Snapdragon 675 SoC, a 4,500mAh battery with 18W fast charging support, and a 6.44-inch OLED display. Motorola One Hyper, Vikram Lander, and other news this week Other highlights this week include the launch of the Motorola One Hyper, which features a 32-megapixel pop-up sefie camera – a first for Motorola. It also bears a 64-megapixel helmed dual rear camera setup. It has been priced at $399.99 (roughly Rs. 29,000). As we mentioned, the crashed Vikram Lander was finally spotted by the NASA Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO). The space agency had in September released a mosaic image of the crash site, and asked for help globally to locate the lander by comparing it with earlier images of the same site. This week, it was announced that using the images, Shanmuga ‘Shan' Subramanian, an IT professional from Chennai, was able to spot it. Oppo India this week launched the Vanilla Mint colour variant of the Oppo A9 2020. Apart from the new colour, the smartphone is otherwise identical to the original Oppo A9 2020, from specifications to price. Xiaomi this week revealed that the RedmiBook 13 laptop would be launched alongside the Redmi K30 on December 10 at an event in China. In a similar vein, Realme this week revealed that the Realme XT 730G and Realme true wireless earbuds will be launched in India on December 17. Separately, the company also revealed that the Realme U1, Realme C1, Realme 1, and Realme 2 will not receive the Android 10-based ColorOS 7 update in India. Read the full article

Vodafone Launches Rs 69 Prepaid Recharge With 28 Days Service Validity and 250MB Data https://ift.tt/32b7O6S
Vodafone Launches Rs 69 Prepaid Recharge With 28 Days Service Validity and 250MB Data
Vodafone is aggressively expanding its All Rounder prepaid plan portfolio to offer more recharge options to the customers. After launching the Rs 45 All Rounder pack, Vodafone is now back with a new Rs 69 recharge under the same portfolio. Last year, Vodafone introduced All Rounder recharges of Rs 35, Rs 65, Rs 95, Rs 145 and Rs 245, however, in some circles, the company has discontinued the Rs 65 All Rounder plan. Now, it has a new Rs 69 All Rounder plan which ships with different benefits compared to the Rs 65 All Rounder pack. Vodafone is not providing any talk time benefit with this new plan, instead, the telco is offering users free voice calling minutes. Similar to the other All Rounder plans of Vodafone, the Rs 69 pack also extends service validity by 28 days. The benefits of the pack are also valid for 28 days from the date of recharge.
Vodafone Rs 69 Recharge: What it Offers to the Subscribers?
First of all, do make a note that Vodafone has introduced this Rs 69 prepaid recharge in 17 circles at the moment and some of them are Andhra Pradesh & Telangana, Bihar and Jharkhand, Delhi & NCR, Gujarat, Karnataka and so on. As for the benefits, it offers a user 150 local/STD/roaming minutes, 250MB of 4G/2G data and 100 SMSes. The validity of the plan is 28 days from the date of recharge. That said, the Rs 69 All Rounder plan is slightly different compared to other All Rounder plans from the company.
All Rounder packs or Active Recharge plans from Vodafone Idea allows a user to extend their account’s service validity for a certain period of time. Both Vodafone and Idea are providing five packs- Rs 35, Rs 65, Rs 95, Rs 145 and Rs 245. The maximum validity of these plans is 84 days, whereas the minimum validity offered is 28 days.
The All Rounder packs basically ship with talk time, data, SMS and rate cutter benefits, but the Rs 69 plan comes with free voice calling minutes which make the difference. Also, as mentioned above, Vodafone has removed the Rs 65 pack in some circles and the reason behind the removal is not unknown at the moment. Notably, Idea is also providing similar Rs 69 Active Recharge pack in some circles, so we can safely say Vodafone Idea is combinedly expanding the All Rounder or Active Recharge plan portfolio.
Vodafone Idea Will Continue Offering Unlimited Voice Calls to Other Networks
In other news, telecom operators in India are entering into a new battlefield again with Jio being the initiator yet again. Back in 2016, Reliance Jio announced that it would not charge for voice calls for the entire lifetime. However, a couple of days ago, the company made a U-Turn and said it would start charging 6 paise per minute for all the outgoing voice calls made to other networks from Jio number.
Right after this decision from Reliance Jio, the former leading operator, Vodafone Idea came out with a press statement saying that it will not charge for voice calls since they’ve already implemented the unlimited voice calling scheme last year. It’s good to see that Vodafone Idea is not following the footsteps of Reliance Jio this time around and the decision to not charge for off-net voice calls comes as a relief to the subscribers. Even Bharti Airtel confirmed it will not charge for off-net voice calls and says unlimited means unlimited on its network. As for Jio, it has introduced some special IUC Top-UP vouchers to the customers with free off-net voice calling minutes.

Vivo S1 Pro India Launch Date, Oppo Reno 3 Series, Samsung A30s Price Cut, and More Tech News This Week
Vivo S1 Pro launch date reveal, Oppo Reno 3 series launch, the news of Redmi Note 8 duo going on open sale in India were the biggest tech stories in a week that was pretty light on news. Also, in our last weekend wrap of this year, we talk about Vivo Y11 (2019) launch in India, Realme’s 2020 device plans, and Jio 2020 Happy New Year Offer. We have also published over a dozen features this week taking a look at the happening in the world of tech in 2019 and this decade. Vivo S1 Pro India launch on January 4
Vivo has revealed that it will launch the Vivo S1 Pro next week in the country. Amazon India also published a teaser page for the smartphone on its platform that offers a few details about the phone, in turn indicating that we are going to see the same Vivo S1 Pro variant that was released in Philippines and not the one that was launched in the company’s home market of China. Part of the company’s style-focussed S-series, the S1 Pro will be the second phone in the lineup in the country.
If Vivo doesn’t change anything from the Vivo S1 Pro model available in Philippines, we can expect to see a design with a waterdrop-style notch on the front and a diamond-shared camera module on the back. There will also be gradient-finish on the back. Vivo has confirmed at least the back design and camera setup in its teasers.
