the expendable child character is a narrative parallel to jinx reconciling her relationship with her sister and younger self. like i get not liking expendable child character but she does have an obvious narrative purpose outside of just being cutesy for sillies and then dying for sads. also she had like a cute hair dye montage and stuff man shit was tragic :( maybe im a braindead enjoyer of media trope slop but have you considered that shit was tragic

hey have you considered that throwing a character in a show who barely has any personality or any inner world just for them to die because you KNOW theyre a cute kid that people will get attached to is uuuuuh cheap? like i fully understand why she exists, i get the parallels the show isnt subtle, they LITERALLY dye her hair blue and braid it, and she spends half her screen time being the symbol zaun wants jinx to be. how the fuck am i supposed to register her death as tragic when the writing was on the wall the moment she stepped on screen. how am i supposed to get attached to what is essentially a teddy bear filled with C4.

i dont like her bc the show knows how to write kids- violet, powder and mylo bounced off each other and the adults in their lives in such a natural way (excluding the other boy and ekko bc frankly they dont get enough screen time for me to judge them and the first guy was clearly doing double duty as comedic relief/oh wow another dead kid). i do not like child death as blatant manipulation, i do not like pretending that kid was a real and interesting character whos death i should be invested in, i do not like acting like recognizing what a show is doing is the same as them executing it well in any way. i understand CONCEPTUALLY why jinx likes her, omg the baby is just like me fr, they spell it out by having her look at the camera and go wow you remind me of powder who is who i used to be but then bad shit happened but youre cool, but thats not the same as like. building a bond with them, a rapport, shes just kind of this amusing Thing jinx has around and doesnt really care about outside of "kids dying is bad"

finally, do not do that fucking thing where youre like "oh well maybe i just like shitty poopoo tropes but i thought it was pretty good 🥺" how the fuck am i supposed to respond to that. im not like, upset at arcane for fun i like it when stories are told well and get frustrated when the pieces are there and just never connected. i feel like this show has reached a breaking point with how many people it can take from her without it meaning anything after a certain point. half the time its not even her fault it just kind of happens to her in some greek tragedy twist of fate, shes not allowed to have good things and instead of it being like, a conversation about children of war and how unfair shit is dropped on their heads constantly, jinxs motivations and energy is only tangentially related to zauns sovereignty movement.

theyre so like. fixated on her having this overly unserious attitude about everything around her, and i get its a coping thing to distance herself but it RARELY lets up during pivotal moments. its like a story is happening to her rather than her actively contributing- the people would have been taken to stillwater whether she was at the rally or not- sevika would have figured out a way inside that building with or without jinx, they did not escape stillwater thanks to her ingenuity, but because that guy summoned a big ass zombie werewolf who happened to also be her father. the ONLY reason she goes to that building is bc thats where the baby is, i dont think isha as a symbol of the inner child, was inspiring jinx to be a good person, shes just like, a creature of convenience. i guess while im here i can let you guys out or whatever. and what does it mean when that inner child, the living embodiment of whatever goodness and innocence may still exist in jinxs heart, is ripped away from her in a violent explosion exactly the same way as last time? she did the opposite of what vi did last time and the outcome was identical. is history repeating itself, will jinx change? is there any change that can happen that will negate the absolutely comical amount of bad shit that happens to her? this show does not in any way give me the confidence to believe that will happen

basically i think jinxs development thus far is repetitive and gives very little consideration to her as a character rather than an archetype, and isha suffers greatly for it. why show a relationship when you can simply imply it? why make the child any harder for jinx and the audience to project on? why does she need a history, or goals or any interests that arent a giant blue flag that shes powder 2

maybe its just because jinx is bpd (or, at least, HEAVILY coded as such) and i have a mood disorder but i truly cannot help but be bewildered by the lack of understanding and empathy towards her character both in the show and in the fandom. shes essentially a broken, manipulated, desperate child- even if shes "grown" now, shes so severely traumatized i sincerely doubt her brain developed properly and she certainly didnt and doesnt have the help required to become a well adjusted stable individual. i dont say this to take away her agency or infantilize her- her actions ARE her choice, and she DOES understand what she is doing. however, despite this, a majority of what shes done has NEVER been in a moment of rational thinking. she only did what she did as powder due to desperation; she threw the bag in the water because she was cornered, she accidentally caused the deaths she did because she didnt understand the tech she had and she was desperate to save her family. everything she does after as jinx is largely due to silcos manipulation, being severely disordered, traumatized, and abandoned, and literally every single person in her life telling her all shes good for is destruction and causing pain. she spends almost her ENTIRE life being told by EVERYONE but the person actively manipulating her that she is incompetent, annoying, destructive and batshit. OBVIOUSLY SHES NOT GOING TO BE NORMAL. OBVIOUSLY SHES GOING TO LOSE IT WHEN THE O N E PERSON SHE HAS LEFT FUCKING DIES BECAUSE SHE ACCIDENTALLY SHOT HIM DURING A PTSD DRIVEN BREAKDOWN CAUSED BY HER GODDAMN SISTER. O B V I O U S L Y SHES GOING TO DO SOMETHING RASH AND IMPULSIVE IN HER MANIC, BROKEN STATE. because now, she has nothing left. she has nothing to lose. shes a jinx, and she ruins everything that she touches, and maybe, just maybe, she can use that to honor her fathers lifelong goal. obviously this goes horribly and backfires on everyone, putting a target on the entire undercitys back, but she ABSOLUTELY wasnt thinking about that when she bombed the goddamn capitol mid breakdown. in season 2, after making this impulsive (and frankly idiotic but thats neither here nor there) decision she lays low, avoiding causing any damage unless necessary (although it IS overkill whenever she does harm people, thats what shes been taught is normal. she literally grew up in the undercity where people are murdered and mugged on a daily basis.) and using every opportunity to scourge her own existence. she VERY clearly hates herself for what shes done, and she certainly doesnt seem to be proud of any of it. i think this is best displayed in the discussion she has with isha when they first meet. when vi and the enforcer squad come after her, shes literally minding her business, making a GIFT for the woman who has repeatedly hurt her because "it was something (she) could fix." she cant even shoot vi when shes actively gassing her, literally CRYING at the thought. the only reason she actively begins attempting to kill her and caitlyn is because THEY'RE DOING THE SAME DAMN THING, and once again she very clearly cant bring herself to do so to vi. even in s1, during the tea party scene, its pretty evident that she doesnt intend to kill vi in my opinion? to make matters worse, when vi tries to kill HER, she practically BEGS her to do it.

i understand that jinx is objectively NOT a good person!!! she has literally killed tens of maybe hundreds of people and yes, she did kill caitlyns mom (although very honestly i could care less about that ngl caitlyn is absolutely a good character but i dont like her as a person for reasons largely unrelated to jinx 😓). she literally builds bombs and guns and whatever the fuck for fun. she enjoys watching people be beaten and killed. but i think the absolute lack of any empathy or understanding towards her a lot of people exhibit is a little ridiculous and it infuriates me to no end 😭 thank you for coming to my autistic ted talk!!!!

Since Arcane's in the business of rewriting lore and retconning a bunch of stuff: I had a thought that what if Isha's a younger/retconned Zeri? (I think Zeri came out as a champ while Arcane was in production, so this is VERY not likely but play in the space with me here for a second) But picture it: my girl supercharges Jinx's zap pistol with three hextech crystals and it fucking blows up, what if it turns her hair electric green/yellow and gives her lightning powers? In a few years time she builds her own zap gun (Jinx shows her how), shoots lightning from her own little finger guns, and her signature move in the show is even a slide like Zeri's E in game. Again SUPER not likely. But imagine tho.

A) Zeri can talk, and B) Zeri is Filipina, or at least the Runeterran equivalent. Not a fan.

Arcane S2 Spoilers below the cut because I have some THOUGHTS

I apologize for the person I will become when this show ends because they are consuming my entire brain rn and I cannot imagine how crazy I'll be when the arcs are resolved

Calling Zaunites animals for attacking a memorial of Piltover's leaders/Caitlyn's mom... and then authorizing an attack on the Undercity's memorial for their leader/Vi's dad. A little bit of a double standard methinks. Just a tad of "it's fine when my people do it." Just a smidge. Caitlyn girl I love you as a character but the hypocrisy and privilege is POTENT and I cannot WAIT to see you get called out for it.

Also everyone was talking about how the JayVik divorce was rushed (which like, fair), but I don't see anybody talking about how Caitlyn's turnaround came out of nowhere. Like I know she wasn't on the best of terms with Ambessa in regards to continuing marshal law but that doesn't negate her quest for revenge and ending Jinx. I just??? I really hope we get a more in-depth explanation in arc 3 because that just felt too sudden. I trust the writers (rare in today's media) but that was very strange to me.

Also unless the orange-haired police officer is plot relevant in the next arc I see no point for her and Caitlyn hooking up other than to induce rage. The scream I scrumpt when that girl popped up on screen was primal because wow Caitlyn you really dumped Vi and decided to screw the Piltover version of Matilda. She wanted a yes-man with benefits and I really thought she was better than that. I am all for women's wrongs but damn.

the way they so over exaggerate which chembaron people work for by having them all look alike is so cheesy. and not in a fun way imo

the jayce and viktor 10 second hug scene has more romantic music than it did in leaks. in the leaks it was sadder

viktors voice now has this deep undertone of distortion. super cool.

the amount of blindfold imagery. this isn't really something i didn't notice before i just haven't mentioned it before

ok this needs to be made bold I AM SO FUCKING MAD THAT THEY DIDNT USE POP/STARS FOR THE SEVIKA FIGHT SCENE. IT WAS SO FUCKIN COOL IN THE LEAKS AND IT INTRODUCED ME TO KDA AND GIDLE. THEY JUST REPLAYED THE GET JINXED SONG WHICH SLAPS BUT THEY AL R E A D Y USED IT. AND ITS SO WEAK FO THE SCENE!!!

in the leaks popstars played when the arm shot out and grabbed smeedge's hat, and it hit perfectly in beat with what was going on. in official release there's just a beat of silence and then a super weak ass song that isn't great for the scene at all.

super upset by this actually bc i was really looking forward to this scene--specifically for this song and how cool it was.

7. what im super excited about is the 'can i do the right thing for the wrong reason' song because it slaps so hard and that sequence is soooo good.
