Rights of Passage - Day 41
Good Morning finalists! Congratulations on making it to your final morning. I know you have all been taking your time writing up your opening statements, and Iâd definitely take time to rehearse and polish what you have to say. The jurors are eager to hear from you and get an understanding why you deserve to win this game, which took over a month of all of your lives haha.
Jurors, this is what we call Rights of Passage. The final four prepared statements for you guys because you are their Fallen Comrades. Ultimately, without all of you, these guys would not be sitting where they are today. They had to vote out each of you to get to the finals, and this is a post about paying respects for the people who played this game, so without further ado, here we go...
Hereâs some fun Survivor music if you wanna listen as you read:
youtube
28th Place: Ben Cohen
Brett:Â Tbh I thought we were going to be great allies in this game. Little did I know you didnât want to play at all. So seeing you get voted out was kinda sad but not at all surprising
27th Place: Lorenzo DeScala:
Brett:Â Not really a smart move to drop different names to different people because word gets around and people talk, or so Iâve heard.Â
Dylan:Â Pierre it was sad to see you go. I'll make it up to when this is all over baby.Â
26th Place: Josh Aracena:
Bobby:Â Sorry Josh. I heard of how great of a player and how deadly of a threat you are and went with the decision to eliminate you early. I have a lot of respect for you dude and Iâm sure youâll do big things next game!
Brett:Â Didnât talk game at all really. Not sure what happened that you got voted out so quickly. Â
Jay:Â My Boy! Youâll always be my son (Little) and I know we are boys outside of this game. When it came to this game I know I had to do things differently and by sending you home it gave me a new identity. Iâm sorry you went so early.Â
25th Place: Wilson Tarnell:
Brett:Â Itâs good that you took priority over school and other personal stuff. I really wanted to see what you were capable of and Iâm I got to play this game with youÂ
24th Place: Ilya Rake:
Brett:Â Kind of bummed that we never talked game at all dawgÂ
Dylan:Â Shmill it itzzz what it izzzzzz
23rd Place: Keion Correll:
Brett:Â You should NOT have gone out the way you did. Resnik completely blindsided both you AND me. But just know that 4 rounds later we got revenge.
Jay:Â Really wish I was able to play with you. We definitely wouldâve worked well together.Â
22nd Place: Jack Bull:
Brett:Â Kinda surprised to see that you got voted out as I wasnât really sure why.Â
Dylan:Â You wanted to go home bud. Iâm sorry. Real survivor will be different lolÂ
21st Place: Aidan Berk:
Brett:Â Whyâd you walk from the game? I looked forward to seeing you and I play together.
Dylan:Â Iâm sorry to send a fellow philly boy home but it was because we lost the challenge
20th Place: Aaron Isenberg:
Bobby:Â I love you bro. Iâm sorry it had to end the way it did, I was hoping you would make it to the merge.
Brett:Â Iâm so sorry you went out dude. You really didnât do anything wrong. I had to lie to save my own ass and I hope you understand that. Â
Dylan:Â I did not see you going home that round. That was a complete shocker
Jay:Â I really enjoyed getting to know you on my first tribe, and wouldâve loved to keep working with you at merge, but sadly that didnât happen.
19th Place: Alex Resnik:
Brett:Â You played hard. I caught on to what you were doing.Â
Dylan:Â Buddy I still love u bud. We can chill in the pub when we go back budÂ
18th Place: Zach Burruano:
Bobby:Â You played a great game and went hard at challenges. After the Josh vote, Â I wasnât sure who you were talking to, so you were a target in my eyes. Iâve heard about big moves youâve made, and Iâm excited to see what youâll do in the future!
Brett:Â Kind of a shock that you were voted out. I didnât really expect it
Jay:Â Dear Jimmy, I was really sad to see you go. You know this is a game and like I said in joshâs post, I had do things differently. You know outside of this game youâre my boy. Iâm sorry you were voted out so early. Hopefully Jimmy will let me come to buffalo to get some Tim Hortons and drink Buffaloâs sweet Nectar (Labatt). Â
17th Place: Flynn Townsend:
Bobby:Â Sorry dawg, I knew that you werenât taking the game very seriously, so you were an easy target. I felt bad placing that vote tho bud. Iâm excited to see what you do in the future!
Brett:Â Completely shocked that you got booted 8-1. Completely did not see that comingÂ
Jay:Â You are an amazing kid and Iâm excited to see what you end doing in this frat. But for Survivor lol you never talked to me, so that was a reason you went home.Â
16th Place: Justin Wooster:
Bobby:Â Sorry Justin, I wanted to see more of you but eliminating Sam wouldâve not been great for me. Iâve heard great things about you though, and Iâm excited to play with you in the future!
Brett:Â I greatly appreciate the fact that you covered for me during the whole incident with my exposed vote. Iâm not sure how you did it.Â
Dylan:Â It was a complete mind boggle seeing you go home. You played a hell of a game budÂ
Jay:Â Really sad you were voted out before the merge, we couldâve really done some damage together, but things didnât work out. If only Gary Jones could help you get of this mess maybe things would be different.Â
15th Place: Ethan Konigsberg:
Brett:Â Iâm not sure why you were gunning to get me out since literally day 1. Iâm sorry to say the alliance you and I made on day 1 wasnât real. Also you kinda messed up the story that Johnny told us.
Jay:Â Tony Soprano the LEGEND was knocked off too early RIP .Â
14th Place: Henry Feigen:
Bobby:Â Henry, the small period that I was on the same tribe as you, I saw you go hard in multiple challenges. I respect your hustle and grind bro. I was sad to see you go.Â
Brett:Â You played a hell of a game. You were just kinda guilty by association. I really wouldâve liked to align with you had things gone different.
Dylan:Â Dad it was very sad seeing you go. I wanted the original plan to happen
Jay:Â I was really looking forward to working with you and Ryan again once we got to the merge, but sadly that didnât happen. You were going to do great in this game like you did last year. Hopefully going out early has given time to reflect and most importantly work on your next banger. Canât wait to talk soon.Â
13th Place: Sam Myers:
Bobby:Â Iâm sorry it had to end this way, Sam. Youâre right, you are a good competitor but you openly talked with a lot of people which created a target on your back. You were a good ally and I kept my word that I wouldnât turn on you until the merge. After the merge, however, you were too much of a target and threat to keep around. Love you, bro.
Brett:Â You know how to play. You know how to play HARD. Your name was being thrown around an awful lot and I just had to vote with the majority. I hope you understand that
Dylan:Â No hard feelings bud? It is a game and I still love ya. GO BIRDS
Jay:Â For all the Beef people think you and I have I actually really appreciated you in the game. I had a good time talking to you, but once things hit the fan with everyone, you had to go. Iâm excited to talk to you soon and catch up.Â
12th Place: Sam Abramson:
Bobby:Â Sam, I had a great time making some big moves together early in the game. After the merge, however, you had made moves on the other side and you clearly called the shots on your alliance. This created a target on your back and I viewed you the same. Youâre a great competitor and a smart player!
Brett:Â We were great allies, we talked game together, and we schemed together. I was shocked that you were voted out. But after that tribal council I found out why. No hard feelings brother itâs just a game. Â Â
Dylan:Â Youâre from New England. Pats suck. GO BIRDS Super Bowl 52. Come back for real Survivor budÂ
Jay:Â My Guy! You really surprised me with how much knowledge you had for the game. You were so much fun to work with and someone I actually really enjoyed talking to outside of the game. It was great to talk to you on a game level, I do miss you and happy youâre enjoying UMass. Excited to catch up soon.Â
11th Place: Tyler Usen:
Bobby:Â Sorry Tyler, you found yourself on the wrong end of two alliances. You played a really good game and flew under the radar really well. However, as we reached the final 11, you became a target. I enjoyed working with you early and loved the competitiveness you brought to challenges.Â
Brett:Â Iâm terribly sorry you were voted out. You were extremely good at the immunity challenges pre-merge and I was threatened by you in that I felt like I couldnât win against you in the end. I hope you understand and congrats on a great game played!Â
Dylan:Â Giants suck. Go Birds. I am sorry I had to send you home bud. Weâll go at it in Gulag if you wantÂ
Jay: I love you. Youâre the fucking man and Iâm so sorry about what happened. Shit hit the fan and at the end of the day things just didnât work out. You played great game and I absolutely loved working together. Canât wait to catch up soon. Â Â
10th Place: Alex Bramson:
Bobby:Â Brammy, you played your role well as a guy you can count on for a vote throughout the game. When I found out that you were playing both sides and telling people about my alliance of six however, I had to do what I had to do. Love you buddy.Â
Brett:Â You had a great social game and you played a little like I did. We had each others back throughout this game and my loyalty remained to you.Â
Dylan:Â Brammy Boy Iâm sorry but it was because you didnât show up to tribal
Jay:Â Outside of this game youâre the man and Iâm really going to miss you. Please come to bucks games, and Iâll come to Chicago. Meanwhile, in this game, you barley talked to me. I wish we couldâve had more of a relationship in the game. Maybe thatâs my fault, because we couldâve worked really well together. Itâs impressive how far you made it with all the votes you were getting each round. I respect it and I hope to see you soon.Â
9th Place: RJ Pfleuger:
Bobby:Â RJ, this one really hurt. However, I had to get rid of your alliance with you, Avi and Goodman to stay in the majority. Iâm sorry! Love you bro!
Brett:Â RJ you DID NOT deserve to get snaked out at all. You were a great player all around and Iâm sorry that you ended up getting the boot. 8th: Avi Zucker: Avi! You were a great player, but I was a little suspicious about how the votes panned out when RJ went to jury. Someone flipped and we had no other options.Â
Dylan:Â I didnât work with you that much. Im sorry bud you played a good game
Jay:Â Youâre my Troy boy for life (BLAH BLAH BLAH). RJ it wasnât fun seeing you go, I loved talking to you each and every day about the game but also all the bullshit going on in our lives. Â This is game and at the end of the day you stood in my way of getting to this point again. It hurt to do it, but I had to. I know after this game will be remain boys, but now I would appreciate it if we can talk soon.Â
8th Place: Avi Zucker:
Bobby:Â Avi, we had a really good run making it late in the game together. I trusted you from the moment we started working together early in the game, and I kept that trust into late in the game. Honestly, when you told Goodman that Ryan was gonna vote for him it hurt my trust a little bit. That choice caused a big problem that I had to clean up by voting out RJ, you and Goodman. I really didnât wanna see you go, but I couldnât fully trust you knowing that you worked so closely with Goodman and RJ. I love you bro, you played an excellent game. Iâm very sorry It had to end the way it did.Â
Brett:Â Avi! You were a great player, but I was a little suspicious about how the votes panned out when RJ went to jury. Someone flipped and we had no other options.Â
Dylan:Â You played a great game bud. It was great working with youÂ
Jay:Â I loved working throughout the game. You were someone I loved just talking to about life outside of this game. When things got tough you were someone I could rely on. You played a great game and Iâm sorry you left when you did. I hope to talk to you soon.Â
7th Place: Alex Goodman:
Bobby:Â Iâm sorry bro, I really wish that I couldâve been in the game later with you. However, I knew how much of a threat you were, and you werenât in my group of 5 with Ryan, Dylan, Jay, Max and I. You played an excellent game and was a great competitor during challenges. Iâm sorry it had to end this way, love you bro!
Brett:Â Goodman you killed it in the endurance challenge in the beginning of this game. I truly did want to work with you till the very end.Â
Dylan:Â Goody I hope youâre not super mad at me. I still love ya and you need to come back for real Survivor too. You played a great game
Jay:Â Thereâs nothing I need to say here that you already donât know. You know how much I love you and you this is a game. We both understood that me or you couldnât end up in the finals together, and because of that you had to go. You know that you are the best competitor in this game, and from a game standpoint thatâs why you had to go. It wasnât easy voting off a good friend, but I knew I needed to do it to end up in the finals. I know we will be boys after this game and Iâm excited to talk to you soon.Â
6th Place: Ryan Valentin:
Bobby:Â Ryan, you truly did live up to the expectations I had of you based on your prior success. You controlled your alliance and kept yourself in the majority the entire game. I saved your ass when I changed my vote last second to Bramson, and that was because I respected your game and wanted to keep you around. You played an excellent game; I can see how youâve won in the past. Iâm excited to play with you in the future.Â
Brett:Â Ryan, Ryan, Ryan. What can I say? It was a hell of a game you played. You won when you had to and ultimately thatâs why I was threatened by you. Youâre a smart player as well and when you told me that, I took that to heart.Â
Dylan:Â Ryan I was sad seeing you go home. I actually didnât vote for you because I couldnât. Come back for real Survivor and Weâll kill it again.
Jay:Â For someone that came into this game with a huge target on their back I never seen anyone play it off so well. When you came to me wanting to work together I was skeptical at first, but each round the trust kept growing. I loved talking to you all the time and I really got to know you for the Survivor genius you are. I wish you were still with me in this game. Ryan youâre the queen of survivor and Iâm so happy we had the opportunity to work together. Youâre a legend in this game and I canât wait to talk soon.Â
5th Place: Max Aviles
Bobby:Â You played a great game bro. You laid low even with a target on your back for most of the game, it was very impressive. Honestly, I trusted you. I just saw you as more of a threat than Brett to win a final four immunity, so I had to do what I had to do. Iâm sorry it ended like that, but you played a hell of a game and I enjoyed working with you.
Brett:Â Aviles, you were another immunity challenge dominator. You were a threat to me in the long run and I hope you understand that I had to vote you out. And by the way, that music video you edited was hella fire! 4th: Dylan Ross: Dylan we were great allies going into the merge. Iâm not sure what happened. It was great getting to play this game with you and I had a lot of fun.Â
Dylan:Â It was great working with you before the merge and after. You played a hell of a game and you need to come back for Survivor
Jay:Â I was sad we never got the opportunity to work together until merge. Once we got there I got a great ally who was so much fun to work with. Contrary to what most people said, you are not a villain, you were actually more of a hero. You were loyal and someone I could rely on through this game. If you were put in my shoes in the situation I was once Ryan left, you would understand how awful I felt writing your name down. I fought for you to stay, but like I told you these people werenât budging to keep you. I felt terrible and still feel terrible about it. Excited to talk to you soon.Â

Jimmy Butler explains how hard it is to guard James Harden
Even the NBAâs best defenders have issues dealing with James Harden, and one of those defenders explained why the Houston Rockets star is so hard to guard.
Philadelphia 76ers guard Jimmy Butler, regarded as an excellent perimeter defender, said Harden has a way of finding an opening no matter what a defender does.
Jimmy Butler on defending Harden: "You can try to deny him, but heâll find a way to get it and make an incredible play for himself or for somebody else. Thatâs just who he is as a player. Thatâs why heâs fun to watch and everybody respects him around the league. "
â Jonathan Feigen (@Jonathan_Feigen) March 9, 2019
All the proof of this is in Hardenâs remarkable recent scoring streak. Itâs been criticized by some, but this is a good rebuttal, and the fact that he still does it even when everyone knows itâs coming is indicative of how tough he is to slow down.

We Put On Ryan Lochte Beer Goggles And Re-Watched The Rio Security Videos
Someday, once all the facts are in,someonewill diligently and responsibly break down the Ryan Lochte controversy.
Today is not that day.
Instead, we will speculate, because this story is just too ridiculousnot to speculate over, particularly when it comes to one simple question: how the hell did Ryan Lochte come up with astory about getting robbed by fake police, if what really happened was a dispute at a gas station?
Well, we canât tell you how, but we can say one thing. Interestingly, there are a lot of elements in Lochteâs âfakeâ story that appear in thepoliceâsversion of the events and are supported by video evidence.
In fact, this is starting to seem an awful lot like Lochte just got drunk and told an exaggerated version of what happened.
Authorities: Lochte & teammates were so drunk, they couldnât give accurate description of robbers or say how many. @mattgutmanABC @gma
â T.J. Holmes (@tjholmes) August 18, 2016
Hereâs what Lochte told NBC News:
WATCH: Ryan Lochte recounts being robbed at gunpoint with his teammates in Rio. https://t.co/pXZNabPeFNhttps://t.co/62SlTOgoxP
NBC News (@NBCNews) August 14, 2016
On Wednesday, however, Lochte changed his story and gave a slightly different account to Matt Lauer. Hereâs how Lauer described Lochteâs amended version of events on the âTodayâ show, via Business Insider:
They had gone to the bathroom in a gas station. They got back to the taxi, and when they told the taxi driver to go, he didnât move. He said, âletâs go,â again, âweâve got to get out of here.â And again the taxi driver didnât move, and thatâs when he says two men approached the car with guns and badges, told them to get out, to get on the ground.
If we strip down Lauerâs quote line by line, it makes for an interesting comparison between what Lochte said happened and what is shown on the security video from the gas station, which was shared by Brazilian broadcaster Globo.
Donât believe us? Just watch.
âThey had gone to the bathroom in a gas station.â
This, of course, is true, though it doesnât seem to tell the whole story.
In the picture above, Lochte (silver hair) and his teammates are shown exiting the bathroom. The photo also appears to show Lochte pointing backwards at the bathroom with his thumb, while looking at an employee.
In the video, an employee seems to remove broken material from the bathroom after the swimmers exit the facilities, which falls in line with reports that the teammates had recklessly damaged the bathroom.
âThey got back to the taxiâŚâ
In the next phase of the video, the swimmers are indeed shown heading to their taxi. At one point, one of the swimmers even appears to mistake another personâs taxis for his own.
But they eventually make their way to their car, on the right.
ââŚand when they told the taxi driver to go, he didnât move.â
This is where it all gets interesting.
The swimmers are clearly inside the taxi, but the driverhas yet to enter the car.
A few seconds later, the driver appears to be talking to a gas station employee.
âHe said, âletâs go,â again, âweâve got to get out of here.â And again the taxi driver didnât moveâŚâ
After an apparent conversation with an employee, the driver seems to bend down to talk to the swimmersin the backseat of the taxi.
But the driver eventually gets into the driverâs seat.
ââŚand thatâs when he says two men approached the car with guns and badges.â
Before the taxi can even attempt to drive off, a man in black approaches the driverâs side of the car.
This falls in line with the version of the story Lochte told Lauer, but not with the version the swimmer had initially told NBC News, in which heand his teammates were âpulled over.â
Though the full figure of a second man approaching the vehicle doesnât fully appear, there seems to be a moment in which a person ever so slightly enters the right side of the cameraâs frame, tothe right of the taxiâs hood.
Still, it doesnât seem like a gun was flashed at this point.
In his first account to NBC News, Lochte said men posing as police made them get out of the car.
ââŚ[the two men] told them to get out, to get on the ground.â
The camera footagefast forwards a few minutes and shows the swimmersgetting out of the car. At one point, you can see a swimmer raising his hands not only onceâŚ
âŚbut twice.
Later, a differentcamera angle shows the swimmerssittingon the ground. Lochte (glowing hair), appears to be the last to sit.
Lochte eventually stands up,while seemingly being encouraged by his two teammates, who put their hands on him, to sit down.
But in the last scene from this angle, it appears Lochte is having a conversation, perhaps negotiating with the men who prevented him from leaving the gas station.
In Globoâs report, thereâs mention of security drawing a gun and putting a hand on Lochteâs chest, before pushing him to the ground.
Brazil police say a security guard did pull out a gun during incident with U.S. swimmers https://t.co/J2Tz6wRMvT pic.twitter.com/E3g9roDk0D
â NYT Sports (@NYTSports) August 18, 2016
Itâs also worth noting Lochte and teammate Jimmy Feigen continue their denials.
Citing sources âdirectly connected to Lochte,âTMZ reportedLochte still claims he did not lie, and that during three minutes that were missing from the released footage, the swimmers were pulled out of the taxi at gunpoint.
There does seem to be about three minutes missing between the frame that shows the men approaching the car and the frame that showsthe swimmers exiting the car, with one swimmer visibly putting his hands up.
Still, there are a lot of difference betweenwhat was actually shown on camera and the very first account Lochte gave to NBC News. That story is looking more and more like a dramatic exaggeration that could have been affected by the fact that he was drunk during the episode.
Ryan Lochte and Jimmy Feigen have been indicted for falsely reporting a crime in Rio de Janeiro. https://t.co/WWYQusN2Nk
â SportsCenter (@SportsCenter) August 18, 2016
And if Lochteâs indictment is any indication, it looks like he told that same drunk story to the police.
Yikes.

In Globoâs report, thereâs mention of security drawing a gun and putting a hand on Lochteâs chest, before pushing him to the ground.

â NYT Sports (@NYTSports) August 18, 2016
Yikes.

Comeback season in the NBA and 10 other things from Thursday night in the NBA
The Celtics are incredible, but their schedule is doing its best to slow them down.
This was comeback night at itâs finest in the NBA. There were spectacular performances everywhere you look. The Rockets blew a 26 point lead to the Celtics in a half. The 76ers blew a 13 point lead in the fourth quarter to the Trail Blazers. And I probably blew a muscle jumping up and down from all the excitement.
No lead is safe in the NBA anymore. Teams hit too many threes. Defenses are too smart. Thereâs too much variance in the open court. Basketball is just so much fun.
This ainât your Dadâs NBA. Itâs probably not even your older cousinâs NBA. The league has changed everything moves so fast. Youâve legitimately got to be up 30 to have a safe lead in this NBA and thatâs insane. Itâs complete chaos and we love it.
The Celtics schedule is insane
The Celtics shouldâve lost on Thursday but they pulled through for a win against Houston somehow. Still, itâs fair to wonder how long the Celtics can keep this up â even theyâre wondering. Especially when Kyrie Irving is talking like a man whoâs gassed.
Kyrie on to London (cont.): "Weâve had five games in seven days and to play against the Rockets on a back-to-back, that was a true testament to our bodies, our rhythm, that weâre willing to give up to win. So you gotta relish those opportunities."
â Jared Weiss (@JaredWeissNBA) December 29, 2017
The Celtics will play again on Sunday but will have four games in a week. Then theyâll have a huge break between Jan. 6 and Jan. 11 when they play in London. Theyâll be fine, but itâs fair to wonder what fine looks like when they come out of this rut.
Speaking of the Celtics and Rockets
James Harden wasnât happy with the officiating during the game on Thursday night. There were only two officials available on Thursday night because Mark Lindsay was out with a bad back.
If you noticed just two officials, Mark Lindsay out with a sore back.
â Jonathan Feigen (@Jonathan_Feigen) December 29, 2017
And Harden was having none of it.
Harden: "Well first of all how do you have two officials in a national game? .... It's unacceptable."
â Jeff Goodman (@GoodmanESPN) December 29, 2017
Oop. Tell us how you feel, James.
For what itâs worth, the Rockets had 23 fouls and the Celtics had 22. Harden only made seven shots but made it to the free throw line 15 times.

Giannis Antetokounmpo is still a cheat code
What kind of cheat code? The type that makes eurostep dunks happen.
Giannis just eurostepped around Jimmy Butler and slammed, Jimmy looking to take a charge http://pic.twitter.com/mgjl4pIfvn
â CJ Fogler (@cjzero) December 29, 2017
At least he was kind enough to step around everyone before he put them in his poster. That Giannis â what a nice guy.
Shabazz Napier had himself a night
Napier dropped a career high 23 points and dropped some absolutely incredible dimes in place of Damian Lillard who missed his third game in a row.
Bazz was outchea doing things like this.
Shabazz Napier nutmegs Joel Embiid, Nurkic draws a foul afterwards http://pic.twitter.com/bHjc0F3Z64
â CJ Fogler (@cjzero) December 29, 2017
That gave me flashbacks to his UConn days. Itâs great to see an unsung role player shine like that in a comeback victory. He was everything the Trail Blazers needed and more last night.
Speaking of the Blazers
Itâs good to see them get another win at home finally. Theyâd lost six straight at home prior to Thursday nightâs game and were struggling without Damian Lillard. They really needed this win and earned it with defense. They held the 76ers to just four field goals and eight turnovers in the fourth quarter to close things out.
More
James Harden didnât wear his Free Meek shoes, but we still got the message
Speaking of Harden, this shot shouldâve counted!
Gerald Green had the wildest two days ever.
Marcus Smart flopped the Celtics into a win!
No, seriously. This comeback was silly.
