When did you first get into BTS?: I had to dig up the tweet from my personal twitter, but circa early August 2019.

Why or/and how did you get into BTS?: Soo I don’t really listen to pop (or hip hop) music, or I didn’t at the time when I discovered BTS. I suppose the closest thing I had in my music library was a PSY album, which was a bit of an anomaly. I was streaming probably weird music at work and a particular short YouTube ad caught my ear a few times. The beat was catchy and the synth sounded cool so I finally tabbed over to see what the ad was. Surprise, it was BTS! (It may have been an ad for Bring the Soul? Honestly idk anymore.) But I didn’t know which song the clip was from, so then I fell down a rabbit hole trying to find it. I found a handful of songs I enjoyed along the way before identifying DNA... and I just kept listening. I really feel that I found them when I needed them most: something new, revitalizing, comforting, and inspiring to remind me why I love music and music-making.

First BTS song: I don’t know if I can count DNA since it took me awhile to identify the full song. But the Steve Aoki remix of MIC Drop is probably the most responsible for keeping me listening in the beginning. As soon as I saw the music video, I was hooked (and weirdly, extremely obsessed with the hard panning at a couple moments in the song--still am) and wanted to learn more about the members. 

Favorite BTS song: According to this recent tag game, Spring Day... and as much as I have a hard time picking favorites (see also: bias list), my instinct agrees.

First official comeback: Map of the Soul: 7!

Favorite era: Wings. Wings. Wings. (Or You Never Walk Alone, I guess, if that would be the correct way to also include Spring Day. Honestly this whole era thing is a little murky to me pfff. Did I mention that I don’t listen to much pop music??)

Bias: Jungkook, Jimin, Taehyung, Yoongi

Bias wrecker(s): I don’t really do this wreck it ralph thing, I love them all equally so they’re all my bias! But I listed them above in the order that they became my bias. ♡ Jungkook was first thanks to one very specific expression he makes in the MIC Drop MV, Jimin joined immediately after I figured out who was who in the vocal parts, Taehyung tagged in eventually once I discovered more of his absolutely stunning bari lines, and Yoongi shouldered in a few months later when he aggressively convinced me that I can, in fact, enjoy rapping.

First BTS concert: It was supposed to be this year. :(

Do you own any merch?: Some! By far the most meaningful purchase ended up being my first order for both the Love Yourself New York show and Notes 1. I threw in the Notes a bit on a whim because they had a promotional sale if I got both... and you could say that has had a lasting effect on me. I was also SUPER EXCITED when I got my hands on an unopened Wings Tour in Seoul. I have a handful of newer albums and video sets. Long term, I am interested in trying to collect all of the albums with accompanying Notes, even if I don’t know Korean. May have purchased all 4 MOTS:7 versions because I am an idiot and thought they would come with English translations womp. And I have one unofficial Love Yourself sweatshirt that I am very fond of.

What member would you say you are most like?: According to this very official bingo game, a tie between Yoongi and Namjoon.

Favorite BTS lyrics: Black Swan hits a little too close to home. I love Mikrokosmos for its comfort, and the poetry in songs like The Truth Untold and Sea or lines like “I grew a flower that can’t be bloomed in a dream that can’t come true.”

Favorite music video: Eep probably Blood Sweat & Tears (Korean) with Fake Love Extended Ver. as a close second? Wait, I love Spring Day too. Help.

1 thing you love about BTS: Their openness about their creative & personal struggles as artists... among many, many, many other things.

And to finish off wholesomely, do you have a favorite BTS group photo? If so, share it here (if not, what is your fave concept photoshoot and share picture): ohhh wow why am I completely failing at this. I... don’t have... a particular favorite??? Not very wholesome of me to be so stumped, but I guess I don’t really keep track of their group photos! I did find this series from their MotS:7 teaser to be pretty though.

Okay, folks. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CHIMMY!!!! Wow I honestly cant believe Park was 17 (US years) (19, Korean years) when Bang-tan first debuted and that today he turned 24(US years) (25 Korean years). That’s crazy!! I’m a new ARMY, so I haven’t been with the boys since 2013, but I already love them. I’m soo proud of our Chimmy, because he’s been through a lot, he’s struggled with himself but he’s always come out stronger than before. I always have such a hard time deciding who my bias is because I’m like its Suga, but wait, Jimin. J is definitely my ultimate bias wrecker, if not bias. He’s so sweet, and caring, and cute, and adorable, and I just JFNDJVDNS. I can’t, its too much, he’s too much.  :) Anyhow, Jimin I love you, thank you for your love to us ARMY’S, and for your dedication to your work. I honestly have no words besides I love you and I will always support you. May this new year bring happiness, joy, and health into your life. I love you, lol I’ve said that like 5 times :)  Thank you for being so talented, sweet, charming, adorable, cute, sexy, and amazing. I love you!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

BTS Tag Questions

1. First BTS song? Dope was the first song I ever heard, but Young Forever/Fire were the ones that really pulled me into the Kpop hole.

2. First bias? Joon and Kookie, because for some reason I chose to double bias right out the gate.

3. Current bias? Suga! It’s honestly the longest I’ve kept a bias (going strong since just after YNWA came out)

4. Put the members in order of your bias list. Well this isn’t very fair. It’s not even a list! It’s more of a bias, bias wrecker, then wrecker of that bias wrecker. But fine. Suga, Jhope, V, RM, Jin, Jimin, Jungkook. Please keep in mind that it’s essentially Suga as 1st, Jhope and V as 2nd and the rest as 3rd.

5. Favourite BTS Song? it’s way to hard to say. But I guess one I almost never skip in the car is Airplane pt. 2 and Anpanman. But like, it truly depends on what kind of mood I’m in. 

6. Favourite BTS song that is underrated? See but what’s considered underrated though. Because what Tumblr ARMY and Twitter ARMY consider underrated seem to be different things. I love Hip Hop Phile (I love that whole album in general but yea). But I also love Autumn Leaves. So I think it depends on your definition of underrated.

7. Favourite song of Wings? Listen, this is my favorite album from them and you’re asking me to pick? Each song holds a special place in my heart. But god do I love getting down to 21st Century Girl and Am I Wrong? 

8. Favourite song of LY Her, Tear and Answer? Her: I really liked Pied Piper and Best of Me (even though soo many people hated this song????)

Tear: Anpanman and Airplane pt.2 but god does Outro: Tear just hit different. 

Answer: Just Dance and Seesaw hands down.

9. Favourite music video? That’s an excellent question. I love BS&T because it’s so pleasing, but like Fake Love was also very nice. Young Forever was sooo pretty as well and Spring Day. So I guess it depends on the day

10. Favourite dancer? See, I love the entire dance line. I love Jhope’s style of dance but I appreciate Jimin’s because it matches what little dance training I do have. 

11. Favourite vocalist? Well ouch. I love Tae’s voice, he has such a wonderful range. But listen Jimin’s voice is amazing (especially in Come Back Home if you know what I’m talking about)

12. Favourite rapper? Suga. Like I love the entire rapline. But there is just something about a rapper saying such badass things with such a slight lisp that gives him brownie points.

13. Favourite hair colour for each member?

Namjoon - I loved the pink he had for Run and the purple for YNWA

Jin -the pink from Wings was such a royal color. though I gotta be honest the hair for that era was amazing for pretty much everyone. Runner up has to be his hair from Danger era.

Suga - I love mint Suga, but I also loved the silver and black he had for 2016 (even his blond phase in the middle)

Jhope - that orange/brown color from Wings. Again there wasn’t much bad from that era. 

Jimin - I loved his hair from YNWA but I also love his hair for BWL. So that pink/orange color!

Taehyung - I love his blue hair! It suits him, though his split color from Idol reminded me of Todoroki from BNHA and I also enjoyed that

Kookoo - Cherry Kook from Idol!!!! Though his purpleish black hair from Dope was very nice too!

14. Favourite choreography?

NOOOOOO. I LOVE DANCING TO MUCH!! I loved BS&T choreo, but also Fake Love. And Jhope’s Boy Meets Evil!

15. Favourite ships?

I don’t think of ship in the same way that everyone else does. I think of it as a platonic soulmate over a love ship. So SOPE! and the maknae line in general and Jin and RM. Really the bond they all share is lovely!

Hello Darkness, My Old Friend | November/December 2017 Wrap-Up

I didn't forget to do a November wrap-up, but since I was so caught up in real life I didn't feel the desire to do one. So I'm basically combining November and December's wrap-ups to end the rest of the year.

In Real Life (IRL)

November was ok, I don't really remember much of what happened. But this December has been a lot of trying times, filled with anxiety, worried moments, and feeling like my world was crashing down. It was mostly due to me not making time and being accountable for my actions. In case some of you don't keep up with my personal Twitter account, I share a lot of my writing on different platforms. I have had the hardest month so far scheduling, writing, and posting on time for a certain website. Before, I blamed my hectic work schedule, not getting enough time during the week to write, my boss, the moon, the sun, the stars, anything you could have thought of, I blamed it on why I couldn't just sit and write!! And for awhile, I even thought about quitting or taking a break, because I was just so frustrated on why I couldn't get anything done. Even if I sat home on my ass all day and just wrote, something else would get in the way and ruin my creativity. And I hated feeling out of control of my own work ethic. I still hate it. Even though it's a little better now, it definitely woke me up and made me change the way I work. Now, I just work on some things day by day, hour by hour, and if I don't finish by the end of the day, it's ok! There's always another day to keep at it and it'll get done eventually, one way or another. I know there are deadlines involved, but it's better to work on it even past the due date in order to finish. Because then it's done! There's not a lot of stress involved. Hopefully for the rest of the month and the beginning of 2018, I can use that analogy to work on other things, outside of writing.

In more happier news, I got my first internship at Entangled Publishing!! At first, I wasn't sure to apply because I don't have a lot of experience in publishing (just because you have a book blog doesn't mean you know about publishing lol). But I talked to my parents about it, and they encouraged me to apply....and I got it!! So far, it's been great; my job is to read manuscripts by new authors and make brief reports on them. There's a Facebook group for new interns, and we all get along great, we're learning a lot, and our editors are really nice!

In other news, my new obsession has been the K-pop guy group, BTS!! I first noticed them on Twitter when my timeline was showing their American debut on the 2017 American Music Awards, and they were just so cute! In case you don't know, they are a group of 7 young men from South Korea:  Jin (진), born Kim Seok-jin,  Suga (슈가), born Min Yoon-gi, J-Hope (제이홉), born Jung Ho-seok RM, born Kim Nam-joon Jimin (지민) Park Ji-min V (뷔) born Kim Tae-hyung Jungkook (정국), born Jeon Jung-kook They have been a band since 2013, their debut was June 13. And I had no idea that they were even a thing, if it weren't for my Twitter friends going OFF for these boys!! And they can dance!! A lot of my timeline during the AMAs were not here for them or into them like that, probably because we've had so many boy bands come and go through out the years. But the thing is with BTS and K-pop groups like them, they dance and entertain better than the US does, not going to lie!! We've had our N'SYNC, BSB, NKOTB, 98 Degrees, One Direction (whom I love!), The Wanted, Five Seconds of Summer, who were popular and loved in their own right, but not a lot of them danced. That's what I've missed from recent boy bands! And BTS know how to incorporate rap and hip-hop without it being offensive to black people, and I love it!! Even though a lot of their music is in Korean and I don't speak the language myself, just the fact that I can vibe with them and still understand their meanings means more to me than if they were to do an English album. Plus, RM is fluent in English, and Jungkook knows some English, which is helpful.

I still have a lot to catch up on when it comes to their music, but so far, V is my bias! His deep sexy voice is just my everything! My gift was The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas, and I gagged on the inside!! I was so excited that I finally got a book that I've been dying to read. I'd also gotten candies, chocolates and treats: Tipson Black Tea, Simpson’s Classic British Travel Sweets, English Tea Shop green tea, Godiva white chocolate pearls, Ghiardelli chocolate squares, and Lindt hot chocolate! Talk about spoiled!!! I didn't know who my Secret Santa was, and I still don't!. Thank you so much, whoever you are!

My BTS The Wings Tour Experience

I wanted to officially post my rant about my first BTS concert ever, so here you go.

May 6, 2017 The BTS Wings Tour in Manila happened. Okay, so I’ve been in to like 2 concerts before BTS in my whole life, and every time: the members would be incomplete. I was cautious when I finally bought my ticket, because I’ve been rejoicing about the fact that I’d finally see a concert with ALL the members present, but I was still cautious.

Anyway, I left my home at around quarter to 9AM because I waited for my friend to get at my house before leaving. I also had a few friends who was going to sell on the venue, so we basically walked around the venue selling things, there was a total of 7 of us. After walking around, we went through the same place we’ve gone through. We passed through a pedestrian lane, when suddenly a white van and an ambulance came through right in front of us. We stopped and let them pass through, without knowing that it was actually them inside!!! How did we know, here’s how it went. After letting those vehicle through, we crossed the lane and went back to the building of the venue itself ((we went to a coffee shop before, it’s like our headquarters lol)) We passed through it again, with the sea of people present; sweaty and screaming. I turned a bit claustrophobic after that. While selling things, a few girls approached to buy from us, and they were freaking out. I asked them what happened because I needed to be filled in too. I’m a fan that cares~ So this tall girl explained everything how they just arrive with the ambulance. She mentioned Jungkook being so tall, Jimin being flawless, and I believe she mentioned Yoongi being pale as f, but that was all that I was able to get from her — The main thing was they were very tall and handsome.

After that, we became grumpy and hungry for walking around for so long — especially me, since I didn’t eat my breakfast. We have like 7 hours more to go before the actual concert but we were grumpy, annoyed, and tired. We ate at a cheap fast food place, that would satisfy our appetite + would offer us seats. We all ate quietly until we all started to talk about one of the best of BTS’s performance: Rainism, Best Man, 말하자면, and etc. so after that we all turned sunshines glowing with happiness again. The shift of our mood was honestly fast and hilarious.

We left the place to go back to our headquarters - the coffee shop, since our friend treated us with free coffee. I have a low tolerance for caffeine so I was ready to get hyped after drinking one. I bought some goods from a Jimin fansite, and then we all left to line up for the entering of venue. That nice friend who treated us with drinks, had a bunch of Jimin photo cards, that caused an uproar to us - thus causing a few head turns from the other people. It was funny because people actually approached our circle asking for some freebies, thinking that my friend did the “find me on the venue and you’ll get something something”.

Now, after this something terrible happened. I’m not going deep into it, but it ruined the Pre Concert mood for me. So, there we go. We lined up, and at the 1st phase there was this herd of people sharing sweats and breaths just to get in — again activating my anxiety. We finally got through that, and the 2nd phase was to line up in a snake pattern, which wasn’t so bad since the 1st phase was honestly the worst. We got our bags checked, then we got inside. We needed to go up though because our seats are above the VIP sections. I changed clothes since I was walking around all day, sweaty and stuff.

We finally went inside the venue, and went in looking for our seats. We were at the very side, wherein we could move a few steps to the unoccupied seats to see the backstage. We probably had one of the worst seats, but I was thankful enough that I got a ticket. Of course, they had their MVs playing but no one was really singing during this time since the place wasn’t even halfly packed. But, my friends and I were really singing it all out even though we didn’t know the lyrics, and people were starting to look at us. The crowed became packed just in time, and when BST was playing on the screen; I was surprised that everyone started to do the fan chant: “Kim Namjoon, Kim Seokjin, Min Yoongi, Jung Hoseok, Park Jimin, Kim Taehyung, Jeon Jungkook, BTS!” And everyone was singing too! We had a fan project dedicated with this song, and everyone just started to chant the fan project — it was like our practice, per say. Spring Day then played, and everyone went nuts, we chanted their names and sang the whole song. I was expecting Not Today MV to play since it hasn’t been played yet, and we were at the most recent MVs part already BUT!!!! The Spring Day ended, they shut the lights off and the fREAKING VCR STARTED. The LED TVs were freaking tilted way to much that we couldn’t even have a good time watching it, since we were seated at the MOST side of the venue. We all turned nuts over the crappy seats but we all eventually calmed down, NOT UNTIL WE SAW THEM BEHIND THE CURTAIN. Guys, I was seating at the farthest part of the venue, I see the front part of the main stage and that’s where they were. Then, BAM! Curtain’s down and NOT TODAY started. We were going all gaga and continued screaming for the whole 1st verse, and we all tried to sing along after calming ourselves.

Their concert was really lit, they started off hard. Like they were no joke ((which they aren’t)) but then they started to go smooth as they reach the end. They spoke my language during their ments, and they were so adorable — especially Jimin who was being all fluffly during the ments.

So, my bias is Jungkook — still is. The thing is I SWERVED WAY TOO MUCH. I accept the fact that Jimin is my bias wrecker, but the whole group. Honestly, they were too freaking hot on stage.

Let’s skip some stuff. Okay, Baepsae performance. I swerved and did not stay on my lane. JIMIN. FREAKING. PARK. JIMIN. I would look at my bias, but Jimin wouldn’t let me, it’s like he’s telling me that “Oh no no, you can’t. When I’m right here.” He was so hot on Baepsae that I did let my eyes linger on him for a few minutes, he dances so smooth, honestly. Silks have nothing to say when it comes to Park Jimin. My bias, Kookie, killed me with those hip thrusts. Honestly, he was pulling his butt out just to give everyone that— okay, let’s stop now.

DOPE came on, and of course we sang this song, and Yoongi’s part was done as well, the “energy energy energy~” and “enemy enemy enemy~”. It was soo lit.

Now, the solo stages. Jungkook started with Begin. This isn’t one of my fave songs in the album even though it’s my bias who wrote and produced that song but I felt that “I finally have my bias on stage on his own.” This was the only stage that I never watched on YT during their concert outside my country, but really I kind of turned emotional. He grew so much, his presence on stage is different, and his voice gahd. But of course, since I fell inlove with Jungkook again my bias wrecker had to swoop in. Jimin appeared on stage with the dancers, and I just knew it was going to be Lie. This was one of my fave solos ever and the choreography was so on point. Anyway, he broke the bias list again. First Love came in, but Yoongi stayed on the back part of the main stage; WHEREIN I COULDN’T SEE A SINGLE THING. :—( it was sad. The same thing happened with Stigma, Reflection, and Awake — we sang the whole song with Jin btw, it was beautiful. The crowd was beautiful. DURING MAMA though, can we please talk about Hobi. This performance was one of the best I’ve seen and it honestly have something to do with his stage presence and charisma. Because he woosh-ed himself to the top, trying to get Jungkook’s position on my list.

Lost. This song slapped me on the face, it was the song that made me realize that I am seeing them live!! Now, their outfits for this song… I love them, I have nothing to say but simply: I love it soo much. They look so fluffy. Taehyung had this striped one, wherein he was showing more skin than he should be. I can see his collarbones and the skin on his back, honestly it made his shoulder look huge. But I am not complaining! During SAVE ME, we all sang Namjoon’s part: the one with “Thank you -Korean Korean-”. Yup, and he gave us a cute smile with dimples and a thumbs up. During I Need U, the best thing that happened was Jimin didn’t sing his part on the last chorus but he let us sing his part while they danced~~~ I’m soft for this fluffy Jimin~~

I was losing my voice at this point, and it just had to keep on breaking just when Cypher pt. 4 came on. This stage was so lit. Hobi looked so good wearing those damn shades, but Yoongi will be my forever bias whenever it came to Cyphers. Okay, for sure everyone sang the first part of Namjoon’s with his “sorry bae” and the English part. The annoying thing was I memorized Yoongi’s part but it’s not a fancy quality upload because my voice sucks, okay bye.

The Medley thing… It was awesome, Namjoon and Jimin kept gaining my attention but I always push myself to look at Jungkook, it was hard. The temptation was everywhere. During Danger though, Taehyung was drinking his water bottle while calmly dancing and I was expecting him to throw his water so I had my cam out but he simply placed his bottle back on stage, and left the fans hanging. Damn tease.

Boy Meets Evil. Now, this was the moment I was waiting for because I’ve played the dance practice a hundred times!! BUT, my favorite part was cut off. You know the part of “Too bad~ But it’s too sweet” they cut that off. In the video that I took you can honestly hear a clear “What the hell??” Hobi, you’re beautiful. You’re the sunlight falling through trees, you are the laughter that breaks through sadness, you are the clarity in the midst of confusion. ((10 points to those who can get where I got this from))

BST. Since this was included in our fan project, the crowd sang the whole  damn song. Yoongi’s first part was sung by us not Yoongi, actually. Yoongi simply raised his mic up and let us sing. On the 2nd chorus, Hobi didn’t sing his part anymore too, and he let us sing. “Wonhae Manhi Manhi (L)a~” It sounded so nice.

OUTRO: Wings. We had a fan project here, again. Which was to raise the banner that had Namjoon’s line from RUN on it. As you can see from the photo, I’d say it was a success since they took a picture with the banner!~~

2! 3!. This song was an emotional one since it’s favorite after Spring Day, no I did not cry. But, it was beautiful because we all calmed down to sing with them. My friends and I wanted to continue singing until the end, just like the one in Seoul and I was happy that it happened. It was beautiful I’ll never forget that moment. Our purple ocean for this song didn’t look visible but when the lights turned off for Spring Day, it became more visible.

Spring Day. My fave song. Again, a fan project: pink and green ocean. Since I sang ’til the last of 2! 3! I wasn’t able to change the plastic, thus allowing me to miss Jimin’s dance on the instrumental part of the song. Which sucked but, there we had the iconic “bogoshipda~” EVERYONE WAS SINGING, I kinda freaked out since the crowd sounded so beautiful then we all just continued singing until the end. I was actually expecting people to go nuts and scream at Tae’s part, the “You know it all, you’re my best friend~” but everyone sang so loud on that part, I wish they heard us. Everyone screamed when the lights turned off and they were taking off their oversized polos, until the first notes of Spring Day on the piano played. We sang the “oooh woaah~~” continuously. 

Again, another beautiful moment: The boys bowing as a thanks and we singing as a thanks.

It was one of the best concerts, and I swear to myself that I’d go back to see them again. I love you Bangtan! Fly high this 2017~~~
