the fact that there are bloodthirsty "nsfl lost media" ghouls who watch the scene in grizzly man where werner herzog listens to timothy treadwell's final moments, where he is overcome by horror and demands to turn it off, and where he grasps jewel palovak's hands as she sits there weeping (she has never heard it and refuses to listen) and they still gather in the comments and salivate over the idea of getting to hear it. no hope for those people at all

Grizzly Man
Timothy Treadwell is a man who documents his life living with grizzly bears, before he and his girlfriend were killed by a grizzly bear in 2003. Treadwell spent thirteen summers in Alaska, living amongst grizzly bears 24/7 for the entire summer. For the final five summers, Treadwell filmed himself and in the end had over 100 hours of footage. Treadwell’s footage is very raw and real which adds an element of surprise and intensity to the film. Directed and narrated by Werner Herzong, the film is comprised using archive footage and interviews with those closest to Treadwell, including those who found his and Amie Huguenard’s body.
Treadwell’s love for bears is very clear throughout the film, with the director going on to show how Treadwell travelled around 1000s of schools to teach kids about bears and wildlife all without a fee to the school.
From the footage, you can tell that Treadwell felt very close and attached to these bears, naming each bear and remembering their names, year after year. Even with the other wildlife like the foxes, which he named also. In one scene you can clearly see that Treadwell is distressed over the death of a fox cub, again leading the audience to believe he was protective over these animals.
Before his death, Timothy’s camera is left on, but with the lens cap covering the lens, only the audio is heard. The last six minutes of his final tape, are the audio recording of his death. In the film, we see the director Werner Herzog listen to a portion of the tape, but is unable to listen to it in its entirety as it’s too traumatising. This recording is not included in the film as it is thought to be too sensitive. Herzog actually goes as far to say that Jewel Palovak, the owner of Treadwell’s archive, should destroy the tape. Rather than destroying it, Palovak has put the tape into a bank vault.
I think that not including the audio of Treadwell’s death was the correct decision to make as it would have sensationalised his death and also his life’s work.

ENG 101

FINAL EXAM
(in-class assignment scheduled for 8/9/18)
As with Essay #4, you will have to take a stance on a subject.  In this case, you will be writing about the documentary, Grizzly Man, directed by Werner Herzog.  Please answer the following questions:
What was Timothy Treadwell’s motivation to film the bears of Alaska?  Did he truly want to educate the public and inspire them to save these bears and their habitat, or were his motivations of a more selfish nature?  Why or why not? Who, out of all of the interviewees, provides the best answer explaining Timothy Treadwell’s motivation?  Why?
In the end, was Treadwell’s (and his girlfriend’s) death really a surprise?  Was Treadwell “asking for it”?  Does he deserve the audience’s sympathy?  Why or why not?  Who, out of all of the interviewees,     makes the best answer for or against Timothy Treadwell?  Why?
Does Werner Herzog, the director of Grizzly Man, admire Treadwell?  Is he fascinated because Treadwell is some sort of hero or is he fascinated because Treadwell is a crazy weirdo?  Is Herzog’s fascination an insult to Treadwell and his legacy?  Why or why not?
You do not have to worry about an introduction or conclusion.  You just need to answer the questions above (think of them as essay questions in a test).  I am only interested in your ability to analyze, so you have to explain why.  How do certain scenes from the documentary help prove your point?  Remember: I like details.  However, please do not just give me reading comprehension answers.  You need to defend your stance when answering the questions above.
For this assignment, you have to write at least three paragraphs (at least one paragraph per set of questions) that explain your response to the questions above.  Make sure you defend your response with specific reasons and from parts of the documentary.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
For this assignment, you have to use a green examination book.  You can purchase one at the nearby snack shop on campus.  You can write on both sides of the page, but you can only use black or blue pen.  Pencil is not allowed.
Please write your name, ENG 101, my name, and the date on the front of the green examination book.  Additionally, don’t forget to sign your name.
You can bring in notes or an outline for your in-class final exam; however you cannot bring any fully written sentences or paragraphs.  You have to write your three paragraphs during the in-class final exam.  In addition, you will need to turn in your notes along with your three paragraphs written in your green book
This in-class final exam is scheduled for Thursday, August 9th.  You will have the entire class time to complete your assignment.
