funniest part about the bounty hunter wars by K.W jeter is how palpatine thinks he's screwing boba fett over by hiring him to take down the bounty hunters' guild, completely ignorant to the fact that boba is a sicko who thinks making himself public enemy #1 of every bounty hunter in the galaxy sounds like the most fun he's had in ages.

it's literally like,

palpatine: that fool boba fett doesn't know that he is but a pawn in my nefarious plot to sow desperation and discord among the bounty hunters of the galaxy. he will be completely unprepared for the torrent of violence and retribution he is about to unleash upon himself. how wonderful it is to make a creature complicit in the workings of its own destruction! >:) boba, like 2 pages later: i can't wait to sow desperation and discord among the bounty hunters of the galaxy 😊 it's going to be sooo fun when my actions unleash a torrent of violence and retribution against me 😃 can't wait!

'The Red Knight', ''The Fisher King'', 1991 The manifestation of Robin Williams character's fear, trauma, and survivors guilt appearing in the form of a hellish knight set to impede and punish his character on his journey to heal and allow himself to grieve the loss of his murdered wife. I won't comment too much on the details of the film (which I just re-watched) but I do suggest giving it a viewing if you've never seen it. Some of it has NOT aged well (I'm looking at you late 80s fashion, not to mention depictions of being unhoused and of mental illness) and there's a character present who would have been a kind of homophobic caricature of an effeminate gay man who is given depth and dignity by the character actor Michael Jeter (whose brief appearances completely steal the scenes from the stars when they happen).

i feel like beviin and d'harhan exist on two opposite sides of the spectrum when it comes to boba's friendships as an adult.

beviin is basically the opposite of boba in every way: warm, jovial, and effortlessly kind. yet despite and indeed because of the huge difference in their personalities, boba really values and respects beviin, and often modulates his own behavior to better live up to the person beviin believes he can be.

d'harhan, on the other hand, is someone boba gets along with because they are so similar. they're both bounty hunters who despise vulnerability and who are willing to tear themselves apart trying to excise it from their being, and for whom ruthless violence is an intensely fulfilling, almost religious act that defines their purpose and self-identity...

...yet, despite his seeming friendship with d'harhan, in the end, boba literally rip's his heart out of his chest, then uses and discards of him with no remorse.

it's interesting to see the contrast between how he treats a friend who embodies everything he's not, versus how he treats a friend who mirrors many of his own defining qualities.
