If you had complete control of what direction s7 would take, what storylines would you write?

I completely understand your pain, @jesuis-assez!! This is my side blog, too, so when I send an anonymous ask and sign it, I feel like a serial killer or something. 🤣🤣 Like, you have to believe me! It's me behind the shades!

This is a great question. I tend not to make predictions of where the show is going or get too attached to my own ideas, because that way, I don't get disappointed when things turn out differently. But, let's indulge in where I would choose to take season 7!

Lucy gets a big career win of some kind. She excels at undercover work, so it could be a prestigious assignment that she kicks ass at. Maybe she discovers a new path besides detective that she loves. Maybe Primm bursts into flames and the other examiners retroactively restore justice to the world and fix her score. After watching her get trampled on for practically all of season 6, I just need my girl to win one!!

A super evil part of me wants someone to start flirting with Lucy, because I really want to know how Tim would react to this at this point in their relationship. He would know that he has NO RIGHT to tell her who to date, so I don't think he would confront her about it. But I think it would make his stomach churn to see a huge reminder of the fact that he threw her away and they are only just starting to reconcile as friends. That being said, I really don't think Lucy is ready to be in another relationship after having her heart completely shattered by the person she thought she was going to be with forever, so this is me thinking out loud more than wishing or hoping.

Tim goes back to Metro, because him being back in Lucy's chain of command makes my heart hurt when I think of them trying to get back together. With Mad Dog dead and the good work Tim's done for and with Metro since he got kicked off, I think Pine would take him back.

Obviously, Chenford reconciles, but only after a whole lot of thoughtful and respectful showing up on Tim's part and communicating on both their parts. My best friend and I have been in deep discussions about at what point in the season they might get back together. I am hoping somewhere in the range of 7x03 to 7x05. (Like, haven't we suffered enough? Please give us back Chenford. Please.)

Nolan and Bailey foster another kid found at a crime scene, or maybe a house fire. I liked where they were going with them fostering Anna, so I would be happy if they took in another kid in need, and then this time, fostered to adopt.

I would like a storyline in which Angela and Wesley are forced to name their baby daughter, please. Maybe we don't know her name yet because they've just been calling her "hey, you" this whole time .......

I think I would like a return to Aaron and Celina's friendship. Before season 6, I know a lot of people were saying that they wouldn't mind if Aaron and Celina were played either romantically or platonically, and I agreed. I think they're going to stay friends, and I would love more scenes with them having a good time together.

Once Chenford gets back together, they decide to move in together, and Lucy gives her apartment to Celina.

In the words of Eric Winter, "Tim's mom!!!!!!!!" My best friend and I have spent ages discussing what we think is up with Tim's mom, and I would like to see that play out on screen.

I kind of want a return to the idea of Grey retiring. I think it was last seriously discussed in season 3, but correct me if I'm wrong. I feel like it was brought up a lot more in the earlier seasons, and he's only gotten older, so it would make sense to circle back to this idea. I would hate to lose his character, though.

More Luna! I loved the increased inclusion of her in season 6.

Full disclosure: I'm still unclear on what actually counts as a trope, so if what I'm saying isn't one, my apologies - I really am just clueless here 😂

Grumpy and sunshine. I mean, do I even have to elaborate here? It pretty much sums up who they are. Then again, grumpy and sunshine but-the-grump-is-actually-a-sunshiney-softie-at-heart might be even more accurate because let's face it, that's exactly what Tim is, especially when he's around Lucy.

It's not quite enemies to friends to lovers, but whatever the more friendly equivalent to enemies is. I just love their journey and how they've become the most important person in each other's lives.

As ridiculous as the set up around it was, I do still love the fake dating we got in 4x22/5x01.

Oh my god. Is broken-brained Tim a trope?? If so, that's most definitely my absolute favorite lol

What tropes would I like to see? Mmh. Right now I honestly can't think of any specific ones I'd wanna see moving forward. Okay, well, I guess all I want is an exes-back-to-lovers trope, if that is one.

Hmm... I think I'd melt if he called her 'Baby' or 'Sweetheart' I have a soft spot for those ones. I don't know what that's about. I don't want to go there 🤣

And if I think of moments where those terms of endearments could've been used:

6x04:

When he rushed to the hospital and comforted her by touching her head ever so gently. Him softly telling her, "My god, you didn't have to take my hero suggestion so literally" If we were to replace "my god" with "sweetheart" or "baby" ?? 👌

6x06: ( Everyone put your pitchforks down and hear me out ) 🤣

If he said "I'm sorry, baby" or 'sweetheart' right before kissing her forehead. Although, I'm not sure how it would have fit exactly in the scene. But, I wouldn't object to it. It actually was one of my favourite scenes of theirs in season six. It had everything for me. It ripped me apart emotionally and left me wanting more. I loved it, no sarcasm here. I'm being genuine.

The scene itself is already packed with so much angst. But, then there would be them holding hands, " I'm sorry, [term of endearment]" and a forehead kiss in there. We're already on the ground dying and that would just finish us off.

In 6x03:

Lucy is over preparing for her detective exam with Tim being so amazing and supportive.

What he said here was truly enough and It doesn't matter so much that a sweetheart wasn't at the end of him saying 'yourself', but I would've loved it even more. I thought him saying that to her was a huge thing to say, coming from someone who ALWAYS needs to feel in control.

Because Lucy was so far in her head with it. So much that she had been projecting all of her self-doubt onto Tim. She couldn't see that he was being supportive, because it's not like her parents were ever supportive of her career. She's never had that support.

Yes, Lucy. And not even yourself, either.

That's what she was doing. Listening to that voice in her head telling her that she isn't good enough. That she's not ready and she can't do it. And Tim being her number 1 supporter was there reminding her not to do that. After all... he had taught her not to.

And to see her going back into that mind-set, to see Lucy filling herself with all that self-doubt again? To second guess herself again... It must be hard to watch someone you love, spiral like that. To try and help them through it and no matter what you say or do, it only pushes them further to burning out.

I focused heavily on season 6 for examples. Even if he were just to say, "Are you okay, baby?" I am aware that he said 'baby' to Isabel before (When she got shot in the head) but, that doesn't mean shit here 🤣 It's obviously a term he has been comfortable with using in the past. I don't see why he wouldn't use it again, unless he were to come up with something specially for Lucy. (What I am hoping for)

If he were to actually use 'sweetheart' that would also fit well for Lucy, for how kind-hearted she is and has been to him.

I do hope that Tim might use something that we've never heard before. *fingers crossed* for this one. It won't matter if he doesn't. I'm ALMOST sure whatever endearment he comes up with (if he even does) some of us will probably pass out on the spot *raises hand* Me. I'd-- I'd do that. Ok, I might (very unlikely)

But what most likely would happen is what usually happens. I'll either be internally screaming or I'll sit there on the spot inaudibly screaming 'Ahhhh' while pointing.

I'm hoping it would be something that's unique to their relationship. Or at least Lucy. I'd be so on board for that! I am a sucker for those kinds of nickname/endearments, too.

Y'know, something similar to when she was his rookie and he would incessantly call her 'boot'.

I know we’re all struggling with this endless hiatus and the lack of new content, so I thought it would be fun to resurrect the #chenfordchats that were circling around the fandom earlier this year. (I can’t remember if you were here at the time, but you can search that tag to see what it’s all about… it’s basically just a Q&A.) We previously did a question on favorite Tim Bradford quotes, so this time let’s do Lucy! What are your favorite 3-5 (or more if you want) Lucy Chen quotes from the entire series 😊

I started watching the show in February of this year 🤔 Ok. More like binged. It took me a LONG (I do mean long) time before I decided to watch The Rookie. It was the gif-sets on tumblr, that first had me interested. It seems this is where I do my show shopping 🤣.

Although, I had been following people, who were\are invested in the show, or rather Tim and Lucy. I've been here in spirit since the pilot. I remember seeing gif-sets going that far back. Well into...

Lucy saving Tim on her SECOND SHIFT (not first)

Them sharing a drink together in what could be their final moments on earth

Lucy pranking Tim on her last day as a rookie (There were a few people upset that this meant they'll never bring them together)

The prelude of romantic chenford in 3x14 with Tim undressing Lucy with his eyes in her green dress. All the flirting that happened there.

The almost kiss in 4x01 with them lying awake in separate rooms with thoughts of each other, wanting to give in and go to the other.

Tim pranking Lucy in 4x21 and people uncertain whether they were actually going there with them

Them finally kissing in 4x22 with everyone losing their minds and few people worried that the show might not get picked up for a s5

Their undercover episode in 5x01 and everyone excited to see what will unfold from there.

I had no context. I literally thought these two were like every other cop show, where they were just partners. Partners who had feelings for each other, that they just hadn't realized it yet. I had no idea they were training officer and rookie, then eventually friends\partner\co-workers.

So, I had been lurking for a long time. I already knew everything that had happened with Tim and Lucy. I knew they were together and I thought... Well, now is the time. Kind of a... You don't want to start something, unless it feels right kind of thing? I also didn't want to watch, get invested in them only for them not to be together.

My first gif-set was around the time that Tim and Lucy broke up 🤣 I came along during the chaos of that. I do remember chenfordchats coming back after season 6 wrapped up. I was a part of that briefly.

And I remember favourite quotes between the two of them being a prompt for the Lucy\Tim appreciation event. At the time, I could only think of one quote that really resonated with me from Lucy, which was this one:

Bare with me.. I do not feel very wordy today 🤣 So imma push through that.

Lucy spent the entirety of this episode feeling that she had to prove she was strong enough to be able to testify against Rosalind Dyer. That this is something she had to do. That's always been Lucy. She's always felt like she has something to prove. Either to herself or to others. Feeling that she's not good enough. Or that she'll let others down. Whether that be to her parents (Where this likely stems from), her career, Tim and working undercover. And to see her come to that realisation that this is something that she doesn't need to prove to anyone was such a powerful moment. For her to own that.

Tim's words from 2x12 having had such an impact on her, to have stayed with her all this time. Those words still providing her a sense of comfort and empowerment. To see her step back into her own power, after seeing her touch that tattoo all episode long (something she always does, as sort of a habit. Her way of reminding herself that she can get through this as well. Get through another major ordeal) , a permanent reminder of what she went through. It's like she uses that as a way to draw in some strength needed in the moment. But, also it being a reminder of her being able to turn that truly horrific and traumatic event in her life into something positive.

That she survived that. That tattoo no longer being a representation of her being a 'victim' of this only being something that was done to her, but rather a survivor, who can handle any challenge or battle that comes her way (because she is capable and has proven that many times before)

I dug a little deeper, and managed to come up with at least five more:

That is exactly what Tim needed to hear in that moment and the right thing she could've said, as someone who hasn't been through that. Especially someone who is coming into this from an outsider's perspective. Tim's sister had a completely different experience of abuse to that of what he experienced, despite living in the same household.

I really feel that Genny emotionally invalidated what Tim went through. She completely trivialized his long-term trauma of abuse from their father, because she came out of that differently. She found a way to reconcile with their father and come to terms with everything that happened, so therefore he should as well. Just the lack of empathy and how insensitive she was towards him to force this issue on him. He needed to deal with that in his own way, or at least have the choice (even if it's unhealthy) to not deal with it at all. The audacity she had to show up at his workplace and demand that of him, to unpack all of that trauma for her convenience. I won't delve into this extensively.. Maybe some other time, if I even remember or want to 🤣

But, in a nutshell... Lucy's influence, empathy, careful choice of words and understanding of who Tim is as a person is what allows Tim to see that he and his sister need to be a source of support for each other during this. Y'know... It not being so 'one sided' where it's only about Genny's feelings about their childhood and what she wants, to the point of Tim's feelings being disregarded.

And then there's this scene: ( I'll touch on it a little bit)

I love what Lucy says to Tamara here. This is a scene that really cultivates Lucy's character. Who she is and the kind of cop she is and continues to aspire to be. Her ability to see people for who they really are behind the masks they show everyone else. Her way of being there for others and never giving up on them. Showing Tamara through kindness and empathy, that she has better options and that she is someone she can trust. There is better out there. Lucy was really someone Tamara needed in her life, someone who genuinely wanted to support and help her. She didn't write her off as just some troubled youth, but as someone who was really struggling. A kid in need. In need of family, friendship, support, love, guidance, kindness.. a home. All these things that Lucy would eventually give her and effectively change her life for the better. Ooh .. I teared up a little bit on this one 🤣

Tim would give in to her constantly (Like he does with Lucy) and would absolutely adore her. He would be so soft for her. Lucy would have to step in a lot and she'd be all, "Why do I always have to be the bad cop, while you get to be the favourite?" So, she'd be a real 'daddy's girl'.

Maybe they'd discuss having another child in the future, because of Lucy mentioning back in 4x09 that she begged her parents for a sibling. Which may prompt them into sharing stories from their childhoods, in terms of what it was like growing up with a sibling\being an only child. This would lead them to decide whether one bundle of joy is enough for them or not. But, also consider their little girl and what either choice could look like for her.

Wedding - They did an episode [their 100th] for Nolan and Bailey surrounding this They eluded to and dare I say foreshadowed the possibility of this happening for Tim and Lucy. So it'd be really amazing for that to transpire.

I crossed out that last part in the second gif, 'cause I don't even want to entertain that thought. There is no IF about it. Otherwise, I'm happy to live in delulu land and pretend it happens… in my head.

Since they clearly did see a future there, while together. Enough to talk about kids, grandchildren etc. It stopped being even a question, after they started dating each other. So, I mean?? They were that certain.

Also there's that theme of them dancing at weddings. From Tim saying to Rachel "I don't do weddings." -> to dancing with Lucy at every wedding he's been to thereafter, with the added exception of him asking her to save him a dance. And then flash- forward dancing with her at their own wedding. Can you see the vision? 🤣

Perhaps they could do something special with Lucy's moon ring. It already holds such a sentimental value for both of them. I wonder if Lucy thinks of it as their ring rather than just hers? Considering the events of Day of Death.

Perhaps Tim proposes to her with a new ring, but it's the same moonstone. He has it remade for her. I think that be something special. OR.. she loses it? And Tim is the one that finds it AGAIN and brings it back to her. Only this time he proposes to her with it? During that proposal, he mentions how this ring led him to her once and he can't imagine spending the rest of his life without her (a little parallel to his speech in 6x10)

MAYBE they have Angela help him with the proposal and he does it at the station, where they first met. He proposes in the briefing room, IN THE SAME ROOM HE FIRST SAW HER, ON THE SAME DAY HE MET HER. That's romantic AF 🤣 and we know he is that with her whether he's intending to be or not.

[ I would write all of this in a fic or something, but I'm not sure if anyone would want to read it 🤣 My one motivation would be to emotionally destroy you all... affectionately ofc :) But also.. I don't think I have the emotional capacity needed to even attempt to plan and write a whole a** fic right now. ]

I'd imagine they'd celebrate their wedding with something that's more them (as most couples do anyway) Do I know what that looks like? No. If I were to write it, would I know by then? Yes. But, for right now.. I have spent a long time on this question, as I do with all asks. *slowly nods* Besides, I talk a lot of shit about writing for them, but I've never done it. So, it'd be nice to finally write a piece 😂

Birthday - I don't think Tim cares for his birthday. (But either Tim or Lucy, preferably Lucy... This time It'll be a much happier birthday. Instead of all that *erm* chaos that occurred. Y'know, like Mad dog jumping off a roof and everything horrible after. Like, fuck... 😦 VERY unhappy birthday 🤣

Tim makes Lucy breakfast in bed 🤪But first he lets her sleep in for a little bit. (We know he does this for her) They each have thoughtful ways of being there for the other. Sweet gestures they do for each other.

And then he'll wake her softly with a forehead kiss (because I need another one) Or she'd wake to the smell of pancakes and she'll find either a single rose resting on an envelope or a bouquet of Lucy's favourite flowers waiting for her.

I really think he'd go all out for her. Like... a whole day's worth. He'd take a 'personal day'. As for his birthday gift to her? Goodness... He's really good at gifting, as we know. After all, he took notes from her 🤭 He really notices.

He really listens and pays attention to her, he's that in tuned with her. And THAT in love with her. He wouldn't fuss over his own birthday, but if it's Lucy's? He's going to make it special for her.

I have an idea of what he would say in the birthday card, something on the lines of:

" If I could give you one gift, it would be for you to see yourself through my eyes. You are the most beautiful, extraordinary, kind-hearted, strong person I have met. I am so grateful for your presence in my life and to know you. I know without a doubt in mind, that you will achieve anything in your path. And I will be there with you every step of the way, as I always have and always will. With every smile, word and touch, you are the best thing that came into my life. I love you with all my heart and that love only grows stronger in your presence. Happy birthday, sweetheart. "

I don't know. Something like that. Hopefully they'd be in a much better place than where they were at in 6x08, that he can sign off the card with his name.

I think Lucy would like for Tim to also see himself through her eyes, as well 🤔Tim believes in Lucy more than she believes in herself and despite how low Tim may think of himself, Lucy mutually thinks the world of him.

New Years Eve - Oooh... What about a parallel to them sitting on her couch? Like when they first kissed in her apartment, only they're sitting down instead? They talk about how far they've come and they bring up their undercover mission, how they had to pretend to be a couple. They talk about what they would love to happen in the new year. Then they toast to new beginnings, possible advancement in Lucy's career etc.

I'd like an episode exploring each 🤣 'cause i'm greedy.

Bottle episode: So, they are trapped at the station and the only way out is to play the game, that this completely deranged escaped convict has set up. It's an elaborate show for them. The station is rigged to explode, so if anyone attempts to step outside-- boom. Anyone tries to contact outside forces -- boom. They must participate in a scavenger hunt, where clues have been placed all over the station for them to find this person, they are holding hostage. There's no guarantee, that if they find all the clues, that they will be released. It's either out smart the gamemaster or surrender to the impending doom. And the latter is not an option. The convict wants them to be the prisoners. They're on the clock and once the timer runs out, it's game over for the hostage.

Alternate universe: What would it be like if Jackson were still alive? Would the events that unfolded in the actual timeline still play out, but differently? Or rather, if each character made one singular choice that led them down a different path in their life? Would anyone cross paths ?

Musical: Celina's dream. She got blind-sided on patrol and wound up in a coma for two weeks. And It's just sheer hilarity through-out. She's that character, that has no idea why everyone is singing. She thinks It could be something supernatural. Someone's probably hexed her. She can only wake up once she uncovers her reality. And there are traces of the real world all around her in the form of echoes, distorted voices, blurred pictures etc

Origin story: Tim's time in the military and eventually leading up to him joining the LAPD.

And documentary? : Oh, gosh.. if they did a Rosalind documentary... They could make it work.
