Old School meets New Life. When she’s broadsided by her husband’s request for a divorce while moving their daughter into her almost alma mater, Deanna decides to also re-enroll and finally finish her degree. Aaahhh Melissa McCarthy (I’m SO looking forward to The Happytime Murders), a bunch of funny lines as always and her deliveries and timing👌🏼👌🏼 While seeming kind of shallow (seemed a bit too shiny and slick, could’ve been a bit scruffier, but it’s a college-set film, with some scenes set at a sorority house, so...) it still carried the deeper message of believing in yourself and being there for your friends. There were twists/surprises I didn’t see coming (her getting blown back when burning all the ex’s things, the older woman/younger man thing, who his parent is, Xtina at the end.) and the audience (mostly women with a man or three thrown in) gasped, broke into applause, and/or cheered at least once, if not more, during the film. The party scenes (Dee’s “makeover”, that 80’s party, her toasts and her “initiation”)...her giving that oral presentation is totally me😆 but omg I don’t think anyone else could’ve pulled it off as well.
