what’s schroder and bucky’s dynamic like? i’m picturing a kind of chaotic duo deal where bucky is the brains of the operation (the operation being mischief and hijinks of the highest order) and schroder is the muscle who actually causes the mischief in question

you're absolutely correct but it's the other way around. bucky is a heathen. he escapes outside and knocks over cups and destroys paper towel rolls, while schroder is a lap cat that acts like he can Do No Harm. I'd believe him if it wasn't for the fact that he's almost always around when bucky is creating messes. I think that schroder's the mastermind of their hijinks and mischief (he's 12, so it makes sense that he's the one in charge), and bucky (he's 2) is the muscle. schroder just plays dumb. I'm onto him.

Block Editor Improvements

This enhancement-focused update introduces over 150 new features and usability improvements, including improved large image support for uploading non-optimized, high-resolution pictures taken from your smartphone or other high-quality cameras. Combined with larger default image sizes, pictures always look their best.

Accessibility improvements include the integration of block editor styles in the admin interface. These improved styles fix many accessibility issues: color contrast on form fields and buttons, consistency between editor and admin interfaces, new snackbar notices, standardizing to the default WordPress color scheme, and the introduction of Motion to make interacting with your blocks feel swift and natural.

For people who use a keyboard to navigate the dashboard, the block editor now has a Navigation mode. This lets you jump from block to block without tabbing through every part of the block controls.

WordPress 5.3 adds even more robust tools for creating amazing designs.

The new Group block lets you easily divide your page into colorful sections.

As befits a theme called Twenty Twenty, clarity and readability is also a big focus. The theme includes the typeface Inter, designed by Rasmus Andersson. Automatic Image Rotation

Your images will be correctly rotated upon upload according to the embedded orientation data. This feature was first proposed nine years ago and made possible through the perseverance of many dedicated contributors.

The improvements introduced in 5.3 make it even easier to identify issues. Expanded recommendations highlight areas that may need troubleshooting on your site from the Health Check screen.

Admin Email Verification

You’ll now be periodically asked to confirm that your admin email address is up to date when you log in as an administrator. This reduces the chance of getting locked out of your site if you change your email address.

Date/Time Component Fixes

Developers can now work with dates and timezones in a more reliable way. Date and time functionality has received a number of new API functions for unified timezone retrieval and PHP interoperability, as well as many bug fixes.

PHP 7.4 Compatibility

WordPress 5.3 aims to fully support PHP 7.4. This release contains multiple changes to remove deprecated functionality and ensure compatibility. WordPress continues to encourage all users to run the latest and greatest versions of PHP.

so again, Jessica Vosk. Her Elphie was ADORABLE at shiz and excellent at playing up the whole wicked witch thing (her evil cackle was EXCELLENT) and her RIFFING. It's always an experience watching different Elphies and their particular riffing styles (as one might call it) and holy shit. Holy shit.

Ginna Claire Mason in No One Mourns the Wicked is how I knew I was in for a really good show. I spent the entirety of that number staring in awe because if I ever wanna be Glinda i hope I can be as good as her. Also her Madame Morrible impression was scary accurate. -- consequently, What Is This Feeling had fucking amazing harmony and they had such good chemistry and long story short I have never shipped an Elphie and a Glinda this hard.

My sister finally LIKED a Wizard! We've seen this show three or four times and finally she found a wizard she likes. Shoutout to Wayne Schroder (who's an understudy???? God understudies never stop blowing me away)

Attitudes towards Tesco‘s (LSE: TSCO) proposed £3.7bn takeover of grocery wholesaler Booker Group (LSE: BOK) have been mixed, with the company’s share prices rising on the news, but major shareholders expressing opposition. Booker has published its fourth quarter results today, so what do they tell us about the likely fate of the merger?

No smoke without fire

The headlines have focused on how the new tobacco display ban and plain packaging restrictions have hit Booker, with tobacco sales down 7.5% on a like-for-like basis. This is to be expected, because everybody knows that government pressure on the nation’s dwindling band of smokers will only intensify. However, it won’t worry Tesco boss Dave Lewis, who is pursuing Booker for its food operations.

On this front the news is good, with group non-tobacco sales rising 4.7% like-for-like. Booker chief executive Charles Wilson said franchises Budgens and Londis are performing well, while internet sales increased a healthy 8% and Booker India continues to make progress.

Charles Wilson’s war

Total sales for the year to 24 March 2017 rose 6.7% to £5.3bn, and Booker ended up with approximately £160m in net cash. Wilson hailed the period as “a good year“, with good customer satisfaction scores and sales “the best we have ever achieved”. 

There is nothing here to derail the Tesco bid. Lewis wants to create “the UK’s leading food business” (I thought he already ran it), by integrating Booker’s cash-and-carry wholesaler operations, which supply food to 120,000 independent retailers nationwide, while the group also owns the Londis, Budgens and Premier franchises. Its food service arm supplies high-street chains such as Wagamama as well as pubs, caterers and Rick Stein’s restaurants, and its direct arm generates £1bn of online sales to M&S and others.

The merger should also speed up Tesco’s push into the fast-growing convenience market, adding 5,400 stores to its 2,900-strong network of Tesco Express, Metro and One Stop brands. It reckons this will save it £200m a year and boost annual profits by £25m.

Ground for concern

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) may yet block the deal, which is also running into resistance from major Tesco shareholders, who think Dave Lewis is paying too high a price. Schroders and Artisan Partners, who collectively own 9% of Tesco, have asked it to pull out. Schroders fund manager Jessica Ground reckons that most acquisitions destroy value for acquiring shareholders. This is particularly true if you overpay in the first place, as many think Tesco is doing.

Today’s results from Bookers won’t affect the bid but it could backfire for other reasons, such as potential CMA intervention and the distraction of integrating Booker’s sprawling operations – Tesco already has quite enough on its plate. For me, the killer is that I did not rate Tesco even before the added uncertainty this deal will bring. I cashed out of the supermarket sector several years ago, and the Booker deal will not tempt me to carry myself back in.
