ANCONA – È passato con l’energia gentile della musica in alcuni dei luoghi più belli del nostro entroterra, il Festival Alte Marche che si è svolto dal 7 all’11 agosto. Un itinerario sonoro tra le province di Ancona e Pesaro Urbino, per sottolineare la vicinanza dei borghi che sorgono ai piedi dell’Appennino, occasione di continue scoperte. Da Sassoferrato a Cantiano, da Cagli a Serra Sant’Abbondio fino a Frontone, paesi che possono essere un’alternativa efficace al caos della costa, che regalano momenti di serenità e contatto con le persone che solo qui si possono vivere.

Un risultato sempre valido: portare musica di qualità in luoghi particolari e caratteristici per creare momenti di vicinanza e scambio tra pubblico e artisti, esperienze condivise che creano un legame forte con queste terre. Situazioni informali e aperte, per turisti e residenti. Uno spirito ben sintetizzato dagli organizzatori che descrivono Alte Marche come «un festival che crea un nuovo e solido rapporto con il territorio attraverso la combinazione di musica, persone, cultura e natura».

La musica è stata sempre di gran qualità, con interpreti eccellenti, in grado di esprimere il loro talento in tutte le occasioni. Le ispirazioni per il programma venivano dal jazz, dal rock, dalla canzone d’autore e dalle colonne sonore, dalla grande tradizione italiana e dalle musiche popolari del mondo, fino all’opera lirica. Una tavolozza sonora multicolore e stimolante, apprezzata in tutte le occasioni dal pubblico.

La partenza con Flower Power, a Palazzo degli Scalzi di Sassoferrato, ha subito fatto capire che Alte Marche aveva imboccato la strada giusta. La voce di Nicoletta Tiberini e la chitarra di Valerio Scrignoli hanno inanellato una serie di brani ormai entrati nel mito, interpretati in maniera sempre originale. Da Dylan ai Jefferson Airplane, dai Beatles a Crosby Stills and Nash fino alla colonna sonora di Jesus Christ Superstar, con il pubblico che cantava assieme agli artisti brani che sono nel cuore.

La seconda tappa di Cantiano ha stupito tutti per affluenza di pubblico. Qui il trio Apricot Tree e la fisarmonica di Nadio Marenco hanno tratteggiato un ritratto accattivante di una formazione vocale leggendaria della musica italiana: il Quartetto Cetra. Con talento e simpatia i musicisti hanno presentato brani storici del Quartetto quali “In un palco della Scala” o “La leggenda del prode Radamés” intervallandoli con brevi racconti e legandoli alla tradizione swing americana alla quale si sono ispirati.

La chiesa di San Francesco a Cagli ha ospitato il trio jazz di Antonio Zambrini con i danesi Jesper Bodilsen e Martin Andersen, per un concerto ispirato alla colonna sonora del Pinocchio della RAI, diretto da Comencini, scritta da Fiorenzo Carpi. In una atmosfera intima e delicata, con una scenografica illuminazione della chiesa, il trio ha presentato brani che Carpi ha scritto anche per il cinema e diversi altri sceneggiati tv, accompagnati da alcune composizioni originali.

La notte di San Lorenzo si è aperta nel raccolto e accogliente spazio del giro delle Mura a Serra Sant’Abbondio e con le Ninna Nanne intorno al Mondo intonate dalla voce di Nicoletta Tiberini  accompagnata dalla fisarmonica di Nadio Marenco. I brani andavano dalla tradizione italiana, a Cuba, alla Turchia e al Brasile, per arrivare a musiche di Šostakovič. L’atmosfera sognante coinvolto il pubblico che a fine serata, con la guida del sindaco di Serra, ha potuto trasferirsi al vicino Colle della Mozza per ammirare le stelle cadenti.

Chiusura nel segno di Gioachino Rossini, nel 150° della morte, nel cortile interno del Castello della Porta di Frontone con il progetto Radio Rossini, una fantasiosa ed energica rilettura di alcuni brani del Barbiere di Siviglia. Le Mosche Elettriche, guidate dal funambolico trombettista e compositore Giovanni Falzone, hanno interpretato la grande energia del Cigno di Pesaro con un suono jazz rock di forte impatto. Un continuo cambio di prospettiva nei confronti delle arie di Rossini, scomposte e ricostruite con creatività e talento dalla band. Un progetto che ha saputo conquistare il pubblico, che ha applaudito a lungo i musicisti. Con Falzone c’erano Valerio Scrignoli, Giacomo Papetti e Riccardo Tosi.

Grande successo, anche per la risonanza sui canali social, hanno avuto i concerti al fiume, improvvisati e senza calendario preciso. Momenti di vicinanza con le risorse naturali del territorio pieni di rispetto, armonia e delicatezza. Le brevi improvvisazioni musicali immersi nella natura, per i fortunati che le hanno ascoltate, sono state uno dei segni distintivi di Alte Marche.

Grande la soddisfazione del direttore creativo di Musicamorfosi, Saul Beretta, che ritiene pienamente raggiunti i propositi con in quali aveva impostato il lavoro sul progetto Alte Marche.

Francesco Passetti, sindaco di Frontone e presidente dell’Unione Montana Catria Nerone che ha promosso il festival, commenta: «Grande soddisfazione da parte dei cinque comuni e dell’Unione Montana che ha coordinato questa prima edizione del festival per la qualità delle esibizioni e per la grande partecipazione di pubblico. Siamo già pronti a pensare insieme a Musicamorfosi alla prossima edizione con la finalità di far conoscere ad un pubblico sempre più vasto la bellezza dei nostri borghi e dei luoghi naturali incontaminati che li circondano, fulcro della Strategia di rilancio dell’Area Interna dell’Appennino Basso Pesarese-Anconetano».

“Mediterraneo” avails itself of this cornucopia of inspiration – and sets off on a journey of discovery. The 17th concert in the “Jazz at Berlin Philharmonic” series was a major event which took place in the sold-out main hall of the hallowed temple of classical music. The central figure of the evening is Stefano Bollani. This maestro of the jazz piano, born in Milan in 1972, is a figure of unrivalled prominence on the Italian jazz scene. His creative arc is uncommonly far-reaching. It ranges from working with senior figures like Lee Konitz, through luminaries like Chick Corea, Pat Metheny and, of course, his longtime partner Enrico Rava, French innovators such as Michel Portal and Martial Solal, and on to world music greats such as Caetano Veloso and Richard Galliano. So, for “Mediterraneo”, it was important for Bollani to cast his net wide, to shape an evening that would be full of variation and surprise; the Italian is not content just to perform for the audience, above all he wants to entertain them: alongside Monteverdi, Rota and Morricone, Puccini and Rossini, there was also the evergreen sixties pop song “Azzurro”, made famous by Adriano Celentano. Anyone who's had the pleasure of watching pianist Stefano Bollani in concert—whether it's in duo with fellow Italian, trumpter Enrico Rava, at the 2009 TD Ottawa Jazz Festival; in the trumpeter's New York Days quintet at the ECM 40th Anniversary celebration, part of the 2010 Enjoy Jazz Festival; or in one of his own various contexts (solo, trio, large ensemble)—knows that, above all, joy is fundamental to the music he makes. Sometimes it's blatantly obvious, as on his 2013 duo release with bandolim master Hamilton de Holanda, O Que Sera (ECM), where these two virtuosos could barely contain themselves and the fun they were having at this documented live performance literally leaps out of the speakers; other times it's more subtle, as the pianist demonstrated on his duo recording with Rava, The Third Man (ECM, 2008). But at a time when the world seems filled with strife and conflict, it needs music like Bollani's Joy In Spite of Everything, an album whose title not only says it all, but reflects the music contained within. After his ECM leader debut, the encyclopedic Piano Solo (2007), the Puckish pianist reconvened his Danish trio of bassist Jesper Bodilsen and drummer Morten Lund—together, now, for more than a decade, having first recorded two albums for the Danish Stunt imprint (2003's Mi ritorni in mente and 2005's Gleda: Songs from Scandinavia)—for the superb Stone in the Water (ECM, 2009). It's those same players that Bollani has recruited for the Euro side of the transatlantic group responsible for Joy in Spite of Everything, a recording brimming with joy, surprise, rapid-fire responses and, beyond the chemistry shared by Bollani, Bodilsen and Lund, the unabashed lightheartedness of the two American musicians the pianist has chosen to flesh out his quintet. Guitarist Bill Frisell's credentials are long-established, but beyond his seemingly endless capacity for fitting into any context, whether it's reconciling with Jon Cowherd's Midwestern roots on the pianist's Mercy (ArtistShare, 2014) or examining the music of his own youth during his 2014 Guitar in the Space Age! tour, any who've had the pleasure of watching him perform know that he, too, shares the unapologetic joy, sense of mischief and lightning reflexes that make him a perfect fit for Bollani and his trio. Saxophonist Mark Turner may be the one who seems, at least on paper, a little out of place—a more cerebral player though, as he demonstrated in Rava's New York Days group, both on the 2008 ECM recording and 2010 Enjoy Jazz performance, one ready with plenty of firepower and passion, should the need arise. And the need arises plenty on Joy in Spite of Everything, as Bollani steers his quintet through a set of nine original compositions that run the gamut from the lightly buoyant, Latin-esque "Easy Healing" and knottier-themed and idiosyncratically swinging "No Pope No Party," to the delicate classicism of "Alobar E Kudra" and darker-hued "Las Hortensias." Throughout, there's plenty of stretching room for everyone (only three tracks clock in at under eight minutes); the playful "Vale"—the literal centrepiece of the album—may begin in more abstruse and atmospheric territory but builds, over the course of twelve minutes, to more dramatic solo features, first for Bollani. Turner, whose range and firmly controlled altissimo have long been defining strengths, turns in his best solo of the set here, all the while with Frisell creating an underpinning of responsive support that always manages to work in concert with Bollani—no small challenge for two chordal players who have plenty to contribute yet, with ears wide open, manage to avoid stepping on each other's toes throughout. Of course, Frisell is featured plenty as well, in particular on "Teddy, a piano/guitar duo that, despite being written by Bollani for Teddy Wilson, goes places the swing-era pianist could never have conceived possible as the two orbit around each other with remarkable intuition, obliquely lyrical lines flowing in all directions until the two finally converge on the theme, which briefly makes a direct reference to the tradition. It's not long, however, before the two leap off once again into uncharted territory where it's less about who is soloing and more about a unified sense of purpose that relies on a telepathic connection all the more remarkable for this not only being a first meeting with Frisell (and Turner), but for there being no advance planning—nothing but five musicians walking into a studio with a book of nine songs and two days to record. Frisell also excels on "Ismene," a beautiful ballad that harkens back, somehow, to the early days of the label and some of its most groundbreaking and redefining work, where the notes left out are as important—and as fully intended—as those that are played. Frisell's tone has clarified, over the decades, into something both feathery light and sinewy, his gorgeous harmonics, octave playing and lazy, behind the beat lines filled with glorious space that Bollani finds ways to fill without losing their intrinsic cinematic openness. On this trio-plus-guitar piece, Bodilsen and Lund are particularly effective, implicit in their building of a temporal foundation, yet firm enough to provide both Bollani and Frisell with the trust they need to go wherever the music takes them. Throughout, the chemistry shared by Bollani, Bodilsen and Lund—and Bollani's magical ability to somehow seem like he's in many places at once, as he pushes the music forward while, at the same time, resounding to everything going on around him—both define the recording and make it a worthy successor to Stone in the Water. At a time when there is so much despair and flat-out hatred and intolerance, albums like Joy in Spite of Everything provide hope: hope that, if there are people like Bollani, Turner, Frisell, Bodilsen and Lund in the world capable of music like this, then maybe, just maybe, there's hope for the rest of us to share in some of that joy, too.

ANCONA – Mercoledì 8 agosto dalle ore 22.00 sul prato del’ hotel Emilia di Portonovo ad Ancona si esibiranno Antonio Zambrini, Jesper Bodilsen e Martin Andersen che dedicheranno un omaggio ad alcune splendide pagine di musica scritte da Fiorenzo Carpi per il cinema e la Televisione (Luigi Comencini, Carlo Mazzacurati, Louis Malle e altri…).

Il nome di Fiorenzo Carpi, compositore milanese di nascita e di formazione, ha attraversato i teatri di tutta Europa, a cominciare dal Piccolo Teatro (di cui è stato fondatore nel ’47 insieme a Giorgio Strehler e Paolo Grassi, scrivendo musiche per oltre 100 spettacoli), e ha reso preziose canzoni scritte per il cabaret e canzoni popolari che restano indelebili.

Sono molti gli attori, i cantanti, i registi che hanno legato il loro nome a Fiorenzo Carpi e al suo talento musicale: Vittorio Gassman, Franca Valeri, Vittorio Caprioli, Giustino Durano, Enzo Jannacci, Dario Fo, Franca Rame, Franco Parenti, Bruno Cirino e, per citare un’esperienza teatrale d’oltralpe, Roland Petit.

Anche al loro ricordo e alla loro carriera è dedicato questo concerto.
