“Rethinking The Royal Docks _ Phase III: Plasticity”, Millennium Mills, London, UK _ Student: Jervin Tiongson / BA3 _ 12.05.2023

The theme of Transpositional Plasticity has two basic aspects: the notion of transposition has to do with the ability of analysis existing precedents and sites and developing operational methods of architectonic synthesis for other contexts and modalities. The notion of plasticity has to do with the capacity to receive form (e.g., clay) and the capacity to give form (e.g., plastic arts). Talking about the transpositional plasticity of a site thus amounts to thinking of the city as something modifiable, ‘formable’, and formative at the same time, while considering previous contextual conditions and historical typologies that might influence and instigate new architectonic possibilities. BAS2 will aim to focus on a radical critique of the typical approach to form, that is completely divorced from a morphological and Cartesian design approach. This studio will explore the concepts of transposition and plasticity, their malleable and modifiable properties, and apply them to the aptitude of the given sites to respond, remodel, reorganize, and continually change for better ability to adapt to new situations. The proposition is an investigation to the possibility of a new urban morphology that is responsive to the complex network of systems within the growing contemporary urban landscape. Mapping, drawing, and model making (utilizing graphic, physical, digital, analogue, and time-based registers) will be used as methods of investigation and design speculation.

So Jervin is enjoying his "new" friends' company. He's still having bouts but such is life. He just wants to be able to finish one work, just one, just so he can say that he finished something.

That is the reason why he isn't visiting Tumblr as much as he wants, since it reminds him of his inability to do a task he once did with so much ease, and thankfully, with gusto as well.

Toxicological studies on Veratrum alkaloids

Veratrum alkaloids are a class of natural compounds found in plants of the Veratrum genus.Historically,Veratrum has been used as a source of medicines and insecticide. Their toxicity was noted in sneezing powders made from pulverized roots of these plants. Inhalation or ingestion has resulted in several signs and symptoms, including hypotension or bradyarrhythmia. 

Pharmacological and toxicological studies on Veratrum alkaloids have revealed pharmacological effects such as lowering blood pressure, strengthening the heart, anti-thrombotic, improving blood-brain circulation, and antiparasitic infection. However, it has been found to have both reproductive and genotoxic effects and significant toxic effects on the human digestive and respiratory systems, so it should not be used indiscriminately.

Mechanism of Toxicity[1]

The veratrum alkaloids, which are chemically similar to steroids, include protoveratrine, veratridine, and Jervine. These agents were introduced in the 1950s as antihypertensive agents; however, they were found to have a narrow therapeutic index, and their use was discontinued. 

Of these steroidal alkaloids, veratridine is the most potent. The primary activity of these compounds is to attach to voltage-sensitive sodium channels in conductive cells and increase sodium permeability, raising intracellular sodium concentration like grayanotoxins. Veratrine affects only a limited number of the sodium channels, but those affected reactivate 1000 times more slowly than the unaffected channels (i.e., slow recovery). 

These alkaloids also appear to block the inactivation of sodium channels and change the activation threshold of the sodium channels so that some remain open. Again, the rise in intracellular sodium concentrations leads to increased automaticity and enhanced vagal tone. Again, the rise in intracellular sodium concentrations leads to increased automaticity, improved vagal tone without hyperkalemia, and occasional neurotoxicity.

Toxicology studies can provide a comprehensive and systematic safety evaluation of a drug and elucidate its mechanism of toxicity to reduce the risk to human health. Toxicological studies on Veratrum alkaloids aim to understand the mechanisms of their toxicity, identify the toxic effects they produce, and evaluate the potential risks associated with their use. These studies have been conducted in vitro and in vivo, using different animal models and experimental approaches.

1,Acute toxicity test of Veratrum alkaloids

(1) Mice orally dosed with raw quinoa 1.8/kg, a small number of animals died when value-added 3.6g/kg, the mortality rate of 60%; injected with 1% quinoa solution 0.5ml, all died within 15 minutes.

(2) In Cats orally administered with 0.66g/kg of quinoa, a small number of animals died, and at 1.39g/kg, half died.

(3) Tianmu quinoa is very toxic, and its LD50 is similar to daylily root, but there is no accumulation of poisoning phenomenon.

It has also been reported that the LD50 of above-ground parts of quinoa is 124.45g/kg, and the rhizome is 6.7g/kg. The subcutaneous injection of black quinoa leachate ld50 in mice was 1.78g/kg, the subcutaneous injection of time quinoa alkaloids LD50 in mice was 26mg/kg, and the intravenous infusion LD50 was 3.2mg/kg.

2,Toxicological effects of Veratrum alkaloids

The toxicological study found that quinoa crude extract has an evident and long-lasting hypotensive effect on anesthetized dogs or cats, without a rapid tolerance phenomenon, accompanied by slowed heartbeat, respiratory depression, or even suspension while lowering blood pressure also has a hypotensive effect on dogs with renal hypertension. 

The hypotensive principle of Veratrum alkaloids is thought to be due to the reflex inhibition of vasomotor centers by sinus nerves and vagal afferent fibers in the carotid sinus and cardio-receptive areas, causing a decrease in blood pressure.

However, the whole plant is toxic, and the toxins are mainly alkaloids contained in it. Among them, protoveratrine is the most toxic, followed by Jervine. The poisoning of Veratrum is usually acute. Veratrum alkaloids have apparent poisonous effects on the nervous, respiratory, cardiovascular, digestive, etc.

Primary mechanisms of poisoning. 

(1) Veratrum strongly irritates the mucous membrane of the digestive tract, causing nausea, vomiting, and inflammation of the esophagus and gastrointestinal tract.

(2) Veratrum alkaloids act on the central nervous system, causing the brain to become excited and then inhibited, resulting in spasms, convulsions, and symptoms of drowsiness and coma.

(3) Veratrum alkaloids stimulate the vagus nerve nucleus in the brain, causing increased excitability of the vagus nerve, resulting in a decrease in blood pressure, slowed heart rate, irregular heart rate, profuse sweating, increased intestinal peristalsis, and respiratory depression. Veratrum alkaloids also have reproductive toxicity, genotoxicity, and a narrow safety window. The pharmacology, toxicology, and mechanism of action of Veratrum alkaloids in combination application must be studied more thoroughly.

Veratrum alkaloids are the main toxic components of the poisonous plant quinoa. Some Toxicological studies on Veratrum alkaloids have found that the therapeutic and poisoning doses of quinoa alkaloids are very close to each other while treating diseases.

Suppose we can clarify the molecular mechanism of the pharmacological and toxicological effects of Veratrum alkaloids. In that case, we can avoid harm and provide an essential basis for developing new drugs.

The Bureau of Customs Port of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (BOC NAIA) met with station managers of airlines operating within the port jurisdiction and officials from the Airline Operations Council (AOC) on February 1 to strengthen relationships and exchange of information-sharing and collaboration.

District Collector Carmelita Talusan, AOC Chairman Edgar Allan Nepomuceno, Vice Chairman Larry Isidro, Secretary Krystine Baligod, Treasurer Romina Curabo, and Secretariat Girlie Robles attended the event.

Nepumuceno noted that the Airline-BOC engagement was strong.

"We started from progressive and meaningful leadership meetings under the Inter-agency Council for the past years, but this is the best gesture to further the participation and foster a better relationship between the two bodies," Nepumuceno said.

"Today, we opened a new door to start a deeper friendship and more robust collaboration. We would like to express our deepest appreciation to the leadership of District Collector Ms. Mimel Talusan for this partnership engagement. This is a first for the AOC and the BOC, and we are hoping that we can do more in the future," he added.

Various airline representatives expressed their support for the BOC and promised continuous collaboration.

During the meeting, Talusan stressed the importance of coordination and information-sharing between BOC and the stakeholders.

Gavin works on a star, far from home, collecting dust. It’s hard work but it makes enough money for Gavin to send back home. 

It also happens to be located in the Funhaus system, who are currently in a war with the Achievement Hunter system. Gavin, an employee of Achievement Hunter, and other stardust collectors have to be protected by the army. 

Jeremy happens to be part of that army. It’s slow going for them, the days are long and usually boring and Jeremy has nothing to do but talk and mess around. Gavin likes his antics and so they start to hang out a lot. Gavin tells him about his homeworld and Jeremy returns the favor. They bond over family troubles and homesickness. 

Eventually, they find love. 

And then the Funhaus troopers attack.

Jervin’s Birthday Dinner/Mini-Rave/Weekend @FOSTER CITY

I was looking fw to this weekend for a hella long time. It was everything I needed after a long week. Been feelin’ shittay and who else to bring me back from it all than amazing friends, bomb food, some drank, and some good-good. 

Lemme tell you. I was stuhhhh-ressed those hours before the work day ended. Cratus’s renewal dropped on me last min. Couldn’t get ‘em in on time with that short of a notice and the late rsp from TRA. I ended up getting out like 3:30. Still had to finish packing too since the week was loaded with errands. Did I mention I had eddy an hour before I got stressed? LMFAO. Well needed js.

I get to Jay, who was out and relaxed right when errrthang hit the fan for me around 2ish. So he was just big chillin’ til I got there. He did his shoppin’ and whatnot so I asked if it was best to shop in Newark, or near Foster City so that the groceries would stay fresh. He said Foster City, which I hoped for anyways so we could be right there and over in just 5 minutes.

We get into Foster City’s Safeway, picked up 3 items on my way to the back fridge for the mimosa juice. It was near the dairy section when it fiiiiiiiiinally hit Jay.... He forgot the steaks and eggs. Oh mannn... I shut down for a second. I was quiet for a minnnnnnute. A goodass minute... then I suggested that I buy the steak there at Safeway. He was insisting that he drop me off then go back for them... I get it. He would save $, but he would lose time spent and we’d be waiting for him for dinner to start. That’s when I started panicking. I felt bad cause after a couple phrases of not necessarily yelling but for sure frustrated.. I could hear myself and how a few shoppers were looking at me... I had to walk it off and get the next items to cool off.. He kept hugging me and apologizing. I knew he was sorry... 

Pat called within a few minutes asking me to get Jerv’s RedBreast as a birthday gift. That’s when it hit Jay that we totally should just buy it there, and that I was right about losing time if he left. He would have his fam just eat the steak and eggs and handle it from there.

[7:00PM-9:00PM] We finally got outta there and for real made it to the airbnb 5 mins. from Safeway. LadyBUD was throwinnnn’ downnnnn in the kitchen. The full rack of ribs and seafood boil was FIYAHHH. J&P were making chocolate-covered strawberries, while Jay and I worked on Henny-Mojitos. That is my muhhhfuckin’ SHIT. Jay was doubting the taste but it was bomb.com. UGHHH. Yaaaasssss!

[10:00PM-ish] After our fam meal, we got comfy in our robes. Jay connected his Mac-mini for music, Jannie set up her lights installation, and we supremely Tik-tok’d. That shit was fuckin’ mainey. 15 minutes after Jannie watched Tik-tok, she said she was happy. We was like nah boo, you prob food-coma-ing from the food and tipsy from the Henny-jitos.. til Lady said she felt the same like a second later... THEN ME. My “WOWWWWW” ass I swear lmfao. 

The girls and I were fasho on the same vibe cause not only did we watch at the same time, we got cute and consented with each other. We created this wholes acute kiss and pyramid kiss. A bunch a cuties, I’m tellin’ you. Plus Miss Jannie over here pullin’ hair and whatnot. The fellas had their moment outside, big chillin’ and relaxed. Then once they came back in from having their moment, we all had our hot couple moments. I think it’s hella cool how comfortable we all are with showing affection for one another. In otha words, PHub moments LOL. I gotta say, all my friends are pretty haaawt. 

After the PHub moments, Day Ones and Day Twos did their thang. The Twos were on the floor reppin’ their thang with their peace sign. The Ones finaaaaaally have their signage- the middle finger. Honestly doper than throwin’ the one/pointer finger up to the sky. And that’s how we came about ours. Lol the MF guys I swear. 

But what really fucked me up? Was how deep were getting into our friendship. I had to express to them how happy I was for everybody and how we came a long way. How I care so much about them that I pray for us all the time. How much I love them overall. I had deep moments with Jervy for sure. Jukes without a doubt. With Pat, we had many missed opportunities due to dark times, but look at us now. 

He’s done everything he could to prove to us he’s sorry. Made up for it as best he could since 2014- which I wondered how it came to where we were! Pat reached out to Jervy after the break-up. Jervy clarified he took a step back from everybody too. Even Jukes. So he reached out to him.. then they reached out to me and surprised me with Pat. Fast-FW back to the night! It’s been 8 years.. 8 years of making up for lost time. 8 years full of struggles, but for sure love. I looked at Pat, recognized all he’s done and let him know we’re square. No more holding it over his head. Not even small jokes/jabs. “We’re square”. 

JERVY over here.... apologized to me for the whole protective thing with Jay. And as I was trying to accept it, he rightfully cut me off to say “wait” so he could express further why he cared so much. Our history for sure helped us put our guards up, and hence why they were doing it out of love... Yo.. I swear I could’ve cried, but it was nothing but the good vibes were for sure stronger than tears.

I think overall, we all got stronger in some type way within the 6 of us. Whether it be the girls talkin’ about each other’s signifs, showing consensual affection, and how we are ourselves with each other- something really hard for girls making friends with other girls; sharing hot moments with the boos; and gettin’ deep with the Day Ones. 

Supreme rulers of the world, watching Tik Tok, shots of heem, deep talks, kisses, hair pulls, and hand grips later... (side bar: shoutout to Pat remembering the marines came to school and I was the only girl who showed TF out for the pull-up hang).... it was already MF 5:00AM. The guys were outside chillin’, the ladies were KO on the couch, and there was a tint of morning-blue in the dark sky. It was time for bed for sure. We were laughing cause it was a “9-5″ work shift! CUHRAZZZY we was up like that. 

It was a night/morning in Foster city well spent. Worth every penny, every second of waiting for, every second of enjoying, and every ounce of love in all of us. 

Here’s to many more memories with the Ones and Twos.
