Jennifer Reeder wears and sells t-shirts with 'feminist as f#ck!' on it, she is an associate professor at the University of Illinois and Chicago, but above all, she makes wonderful short films. Think of a mix between David Lynch, ET and eighties high school movies. Her favorite subject is the world of teenage girls, and how female friendships can help them survive in a world with dysfunctional parents, school bullies and unreal expectations about beauty.

At Fright Fest we saw a lot of films that blew us away, @paulmcevoy was kind enough to introduce us to @JenniferReeder pre-Knives and Skin screening, he said we were going to love her & her film - both would be true. She’s as cool as hell as you tell from her voice in her work. She is a Chicago based director, she has 18 directing credits, A Million Miles Away screened Sundance. Born in Ohio outside of the traditional filmmaking world so she developed a style very much her own - “Because I didn’t know the rules, I came out of the gate breaking them.” What was Knives and Skin like? We’ll never forget that film. Sometimes it still creeps up with a moment or a lyric and it’s such a haunting, real, gut punch of a magical movie, cannot recommend it enough. It’s coming to theatres in France with the soundtrack on vinyl. See it. My favorite part was when the lights went up for the Q & A and we were still crying. She’s not only a technically genius director, but the characters in her films are real people who will move you strongly. Brilliant dialogue.
