Every day I wake up in the hopes that today is the day the temperature and humidity drop, finally. Alas that still is a dream.

Life is a whirlwind and stressful and scary and exciting right now as we prepare to buy our first home and move halfway across the country (that sounds so much bigger as an American, but it's really not that far away in comparison!). I just want to get to the other side and have all of our stuff in the house.

Because that means I get to go shopping. An activity I revel in.

Fun fact - I was looking through my AO3 bookmarks today and it turns out I saved a few of your fics back in November of last year!

Dropping by for an ask game, I'm really curious to know who you'd choose between Shoko and Gojo romantically (as an avid reader of classmates who also really liked a game of chicken despite Gojo being Gojo) 👀

This is such a tough question, I love it.

Because I am your resident bi-girlie who has had like no experience with women. So writing "Classmates" has been an exercise in pure wish fulfillment fantasy. The girl I think I want to be with. The girl I think I want to fuck, and cuddle, and date, and spend life with.

But Gojo, I've had friends who have a piece of the cockiness he has (certainly not the quirkiness). And have daydreamed about that as well. Because Game of Chicken is not a pure fantasy/made up story.

This is a Sophie's Choice!

But if I had to choose between all of Shoko and all of Gojo as we know them (recent character/plot developments aside), I would choose Shoko. And not due to gender/sexuality.

She more closely resembles my husband in ways. Pragmatic, serious, fun, insightful and cuts to the bullshit. Smart in smart ways. Accomplished.

And out of all the people I've had a harmless crush on, I couldn't see anyone else in my life in this way, who didn't match that.

On the other hand, having a partner with infinite money and resources would be fucking sweet and I could live my shopping and travel dreams, Satoru.

I don't cook like a whole meal as often as I used to. These days it's as many one-pot meals as I can rotate because toddler. But when I get the energy, I will do this excellent lemon cream chicken with roasted broccoli and Kenji Lopez-Alt's recipe for roasted potatoes.

Also Kenji's bolognese sauce is TO DIE for and takes half a day.

And yeah, when my toddler is older I will absolutely be leaving notes in her bags and bentos. I'm addicted to buying stationary and cute note stuff.

I've been to several metal and rock shows back in the day, mostly with my dad. I still listen to so SO much metal and heavy rock music. Heck my first karaoke song was Enter Sandman by Metallica.

I have many tattoos, including something close to a half sleeve. Eventually I will get it filled in, but I only had time to get most of the elements in because I only had one night in town with my tattoo artist. I do have a piece on my back, but it's not a dragon, but a totoro and soot sprites!

I do deeply enjoy wine, Cabernet-Sauvignon and anything dry and full is my preference. I really want to go back to Kofu and check out more wineries, it's a great region for grapes and wine making!

3. It's not specifically a song, but this entire 2011 show from the Madison Scouts. They were the first drum corps I'd seen live, and it was just the most impressive thing. Earlier in the day my friend took me to see a different corps rehearsing and I was summarily impressed. But he'd promised that one of the ensembles at the show would blow me away.

And they literally did. We were walking around the warm-up lots before the show and he saw the Scouts, walked us over to watch. They were facing a tall brick wall (I think it was the side of a school auditorium) and he stood behind me. I've been a musician my whole life, so I was aware they were about to start playing, I saw the cues etc. But the moment sound came out, I literally fell back into my friend. He just laughed and held my shoulders in place. Just a stunning volume of sound. Brass. A core memory. If you don't listen to the entire thing, the peak of the performance is around 10:30. you'll understand why.

5. Honestly, drum corps music needs to be blasted. Always. But I'll pick a different genre instead.

This needs to be turned up to 11 to cover up all the crying I do whenever I listen to it. A culmination of an 8 year story, compelling villains, intrigue, and interest. A story that embraced it's MMO vehicle. Close in the Distance is more than "just" videogame music. The way it is deployed within the game and mechanics, the lyrics, the ties into the story narrative itself.

Fun fact: the composer, Masayoshi Soken, autographed my arm back in 2018 and I had it committed to a tattoo. And he's seen it!

13. I love a lot of music from the 80s, although I don't listen to it super often. But one of my all time favorites would be Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Iron Maiden. When we studied it in 9th grade English class, I mentioned it to my dad and he immediately whipped out this song. And then some time after 2010 I saw them on tour and they performed it in its entirety!! My life was complete, then.

Just a smol update on writing, while we're here - I'd planned to move on to the next beat in "Classmates" but we're going to take some downtime to just let our little cast of friends hang out and be cute.

Originally I wanted to just do some episodic dips into various happenings of Shoko/Reader's life over time, but I like writing them too much so we're going to let them get some sun and enjoy a break.

I've also got a cheeky one-shot brewing, not sure which character will get that one, depends on where it goes once I get to writing. 🐌 <- is the only hint.

F: Share a snippet from one of your favorite dialogue scenes you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.

The questions and conversation continue as you trade the camera back and forth telling jokes, revealing shower thoughts, and watching the flower rustle in the light breeze. Clicking and whirring continue as the stack of photos piles up.

My favorite scene is the “not-date” from “Classmates” Chapter 3. I saw an idea of it online somewhere and knew I had to develop it for the story. I love how Shoko is coaching the reader, how she disarms her, and how it turns into just this lovely cadence of chatter and photos.

I’ve said it in the authors notes, but I really want to do that date with a girlfriend (platonic or otherwise).

H: How would you describe your style?

My style is idealistic? I idealize the perfect setup, using the “right” tools, proper planning and diagramming everything. Getting it “right.”

Except I don’t keep up with it at alllllllllll. I use Scrivener and it kinda feels like overkill, especially because I don’t use the character sheets consistently. But my brain wants me to use something “better” than a Word doc or such.

I really can only write at night and my focus is bad enough as it is. Although writing has improved it a little, I think.

T: Any fandom tropes you can’t stand?

Hmmmmm hard to say. I think it’s more about how they fit into the overall story. And the overall execution.

I generally don’t read crossovers because my brain struggles to wrap the two (or more) universes together in a way that doesn’t seem….wacky.

I graduated college in 2014 and I still have recurring panics both awake and asleep that I skipped a whole class. Didn’t drop it, didn’t attend, etc.

I did skip all of my internship seminar class (tell me why we needed to attend a class on job hunting and resume building AFTER we had secured our required internships…?) but I keep feeling as though I had an elective I forgot to drop.

It’s been a decade, but here we are…

08: Played any sports?

In High School I played 4 years of varsity Field Hockey, 3 years of tennis (was utter garbage at it and did it mostly to hang around new friends). Also I fully stand by marching band as a sport, so add 12ish years/seasons of that. I like to run 5Ks and the occasional half-marathon, too, but mostly for the medals >.> 26: What are you craving right now?

Tbh I just made some boiled chicken for dinner and my toddler last night and saved the resulting broth and it was amazing. I want to make more variants! 62: What makes you happy?

Spending time with people shopping, eating, and having coffee/drinks.

My ideal day would be visiting a shrine or two, getting lunch somewhere with a view or at a theme cafe, then shopping for stuff we don't need, having coffee, getting dinner, then drinks at a nice cocktail lounge. and then getting into each others pants if all parties are consenting
