petty exes au bets jeanist is downright enthusiastic when dabi tells him that his test of loyalty is to fake his death (and subsequently giving up his presence as a hero and his ability to put people at ease with his presence cause he will nonlonger be there to put them at ease) because hes had to deal with months of listening to hawks rant about his ex and hell finally have some peace cause there's no wya villains have to time or focus on silly little things like their ex, right???
he gets to the league base afterwards, dabi dissapears somewhere and jeanist is acquainting hismelf with the rest of the league
then dabi comes downstairs a package in hand and mittering something to himself
and jeanist, who's talking to toga, and she explains: yeah he's like obsessed with bothering his ex, theyve been having this weird prank war that i think is just him refusing to move on cause hes secretly still into his ex and i keep getting pulled into it and im so tired of it
and jeanist has the abrupt realization that there truly is No Escape from this bullshit

AFTER 291 - Revisiting Twice: Was Dabi listening the whole time?
Lmao Iâm so mad I didnât post this before the leaks because wow...I was right.Â
Had to re-edit some parts here but here are the evidences I believed Hori left to implied that Dabi was in fact using Twice. Whether his death was plan or not is still to be decided but... Twice was bait.
I am of the unpopular opinion that both Dabi and Hawks are responsible for Twiceâs death.
CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR 291
(FYI: This is rather long bc I havenât done theories in awhile so I donât know when to shut up and overdramatic as Dabi sometimes lol.)
It could be just a plot hole Horikoshi didnât realize he left but itâs been simmering in my mind since all the foreshadowing of Dabiâs upcoming broadcast. And with Dabi admitting how he did think of killing Shoto, his brother, for his goals... This theory doesnât seem so crazy now.Â
Now that we know of the elaborate scheme Dabi has been planning for many years (and good for him!) coming to fruition at last! I have to wonder what role was Twice gonna have in his plan? Was Hawks apart of it too? Had they been playing their part this whole time? (Edit: With the leaks 291 the answer is yes.)
When the mansion got invaded it was so strange to me that while everyone was heading to battleground, Dabi, turned the other way. He was heading toward Twice. Why? How? We all knew that when the raid started Skeptic put the blame on Twice + Hawks and tried to find them. He couldnât because Hawks had removed the mini cams by then. So how did Dabi know where Twice was located and that he was being targeted?
The only way Dabi would know is if he had been keeping tabs on Twice and Hawks. Becoming familiar enough with their habits and thinking to make the conclusion that Hawks would trap Twice in that specific room. We already know Dabi never trusted Hawks and yet he allowed him to get close to Twice. Why? Especially if he could guess that Twice had become Hawks intended target in his double agent agenda. Unless this is what he wanted...
Which is already pretty bad using an ally like this. If Dabi didnât want Hawks to get Twice he would have mention it beforehand. He had to have wanted this. But hey letâs give Dabi the benefit of the doubt that maybe he allow this because he thought he had high possibility of avoiding the worst outcome: Twiceâs death
But then that would mean Dabi was willing to risk Twiceâs life in luring Hawks which is what I think he did.Â
But did he really?
(Iâll be using the official vizâs translation for these lines quotes but the japanese raws to show thereâs no differentiation between word usage in the images itself.)
Chapter 265 Dabi:Â Looks like sentiment tripped you up after all, hero! Hawks: I could never allow mere sentiment to trip me up.
We know that when Dabi finally reached Twiceâs location that he did not immediately come to his rescue. He waited for an opening and him throwing Hawksâs words back at him then always seem like an indication of his arrival time.
However in the following chapter, 266: Happy Life, Dabi retorts one of Hawksâ line again. Itâs easy to miss since itâs only one word this time and not a whole sentence. I didnât catch it until several rereads later.
Dabi:Â He was just 'unlucky,' huh? Maybe by your screwed-up standards
Hawks:Â You've just been unlucky, but you can make a fresh start once you pay for your crimes.
We can see that Dabi is quoting a phrase in his thoughts. He is not saying this. And ordinarily this would be fine except when Hawks said this line to Twice, Dabi was nowhere near to hear this. We see at the end of chapter 264 that Dabi is still running up the stairs...
Unless Hawks was yelling this line which I doubt. Or the time passage between these two panels are different somehow, again: press doubt, Dabi should have not been able to hear this line but he did. How? Either this is an overlook on Horikoshiâs part or Dabi somehow had bugged the room. Pretty wild of a guess especially when Hawks would have taken out any cameras I think...but if Dabi had been overhearing their conversation this whole time then it make sense why he had certain trail of thought passed his mind in this panel.
Panel Above Dabi: Twice. This isn't your fault. As always... scummy heroes are to blame.
Twice was despairing in this chapter blaming himself for once again falling for a trap. I always thought it was very nakama-like that Dabi could SOMEHOW sense Twiceâs plead and reply to his soul. âThis isnât your faultâ is the closest to an apologize from Dabi, because really isnât his fault. Itâs Dabiâs. And god if he had been listening this whole damn time no wonder he thought this when he did. Of course he couldâve also just heard Twiceâs agony scream (sfx seen on the top)...
I could go on longer about how Dabi faked shock on Hawks escaping his hold, how his little show of comradery with Twice in combating Hawks was an act in itself. And his reaction toward Twiceâs death, the word choice usages, the tone of it all was quite theatrical. Good show, Dabi!!Â
It had to have been if it was being recorded. Gotta play the good ally, right?
I always did wonder why there was such a focus on his hand on these panels in the infamous black speech bubble chapter. Itâs not like the other panels where the focus is there because of his burns. He had something in his grasp to hide.
Chapter 291 Spoiler:
It was one of Skepticâs cameras.Â
That makes me wonder something though. Was this when he cut off the film? And if so, why? If he knew Skeptic was gonna see it and the world why end the recording there after torturing Hawks? Yâknow aside from obviously saying he doesnât care about the league, etc.
Are we really so sure that this bubble had his name? Or could there be something else? Thereâs a good chance this censor wasn't just a tease but indication of when the camera stop for a moment.
I gotta say if Dabiâs pre recording still going on then I fear for his next card drawn. What are the chances he recorded some students on the battlefield as well? Students who shouldnât be there in the first place whose parents have no clue their child/ren are a participant of war. As far as they know theyâre suppose to be on a field trip for their work study program. Oh man are hero society gonna have a field day if thatâs reveal~
One thing for sure though. Twice was bait. Whether it went according to Dabiâs original plan can be up for debate(as in his death being the goal...since 291 SPOILER: Dabiâs pre-recording voice only mention Hawks killing Jeanist, not Twice) but Dabi was satisfied with the end result either way. R.I.P. TWICE You were such a swell guy but too easy to use. It happens. You had a good life.
#bnha spoilers#dabi#twice#bnha 291#bnha#dabi is my favorite character and god i need to know just how did you fell this far?#i know this is hard to swallow but there is a good chance dabi did intend this#i like to think he did like twice but liking someone doesn't stop you from using them#and dabi has never been above not using the lov for his plans so yeah...#it just makes you an asshole which dabi is lol#i like to think he is bigbrain but god that jeanist pt was so stupid he knew!#it's as stupid as the hero ignoring giga bc oh he cant move without command#hori you did this on purpose!

Target [Dabi x ua!Reader] Chapter 9
Hey guys! Sorry for taking so long. This chapter feels like a big leap of faith, and I'm kind of nervous about it.. So, hopefully you'll like it. Also, I don't wanna sound demanding or anything, but I know a lot of you read this fic, and it's kinda underwhelming and dissapointing that most of you don't comment or tell me your thoughts about it, mostly because this fic does make me so selfcouncious and it's much harder for me to write it than any other fic I ever did... So, I'll really appreciate if you let me know what you think. Even if it's just a word or constructive critisism.
Happy reading
PLEASE read notes at the end
[TARGET INDEX/CHAPTERS]
READ IN [AO3]
or below the cut
When Dabi finally got into her room and closed the door behind him, her confused gaze instantly lifted up from the book Twice gifted her. Once her eyes landed on him, they instantly widened as her whole body visibly tensed up.
Dabi tried to keep concealed the smirk that has been threatening to show ever since Shigaraki decided to spare the girlâs life.
It was obvious that this was not the usual time he showed up the past few days, and her terrified reaction was obviously regarding the fact that Dabi wasnât carrying any food with him. It was the very first time he entered the room for something other than meals ever since he dropped her here, so he could imagine the scenarios that were probably going through her mind right now.
Did she think he was here to kill her? Torture her?
The corners of his mouth twitched imperceptibly at the thought. He almost wanted to laugh out loud.
There was no way this girl was dying.
âŚAt least not until he knows everything.
He started walking towards her, same bored pace as always, making her drop the book on the bed and back up against the wall like a cornered prey once she saw him at the edge of the tiny bed, towering over her.
âW-What is it?â She managed to squeak out.
He didnât hold back the low chuckle that came out.
âYouâre really somethinâ, you know?â He said, lowering himself to her level to get a better look at her. He wanted to see every single detail of the reaction sheâll have. âYou really had me fooled, Iâll give you thatâ
Her terrified state calmed down a bit, only for her to look at him in confusion.
âWhat are you even talking about?â She said, still pressed against the wall to keep her distance.
âIâll have to say I knew there was something odd, though.â He said while eyeing her. This girl. This girl was the one who stopped two of the worst villains ever. This girl was the one who saved the country. This girl was the one who turned against her own blood. This innocent looking school girl was the one who murdered her parents. âIâve had some ideas about what it mightâve been, but holy hell... it was nothing compared to the real thingâ
She was glaring at him now.
âIf you told me what youâre even talking about maybe I could give you some sort of answerâ She nearly spat, irritation showing.
âI know what you did, doll faceâ He said, but she didnât even react. âI know about your parentsâ That did the trick.
Her complexion suddenly went white and her eyes almost popped out of her sockets while blinking several times, clearly not giving any credit at what she heard.
She shook slightly, before darting her eyes away from him.
âI donât know what youâre talking aboutâ She said, and turned to pick up her book with a shaky hand, that Dabi obviously caught on.
âYou mightâve been good at hiding it, but youâre terrible at lying, princessâ He pointed out with a smirk on his face. âPlus, everyone knows nowâ
She was skeptical, he could see it. Maybe she thought this was a test and he didnât really know exactly what happened.
âKnows what?â She asked, with a fake innocent smile.
He chuckled again.
âDonât botherâ He said. âItâs been all on national TVâ
Her facade visibly cracked, and Dabi could almost feel the panic beginning to rise in her.
âThatâs not possibleâ She whispered shakily.
âOh, it isâ He instantly replied, smirk visibly growing. âFootage of your first visit to the police station and allâ Her terrified face returned once again.
âY-Youâre lying!â She was quick to accuse âBest Jeanist would never-â
âBest Jeanist is currently unconscious in a hospital fighting for his lifeâ He quickly interrupted. âI remember him being in charge of the caseâŚâ He commented. ââŚHe was also apparently the one who decided to keep the truth under the wraps. Your truthâ
âEven soâ She said stuttering but with a determined gaze. âNo one would dare to go against his orders-â
âIt was Eraserhead the one who gave the press conferenceâ
She turned quiet at that, almost suddenly understanding and believing him.
Her gaze was lost on her hands, as Dabi waited for her to react with narrowed eyes.
âO-Okayâ She said quietly. âJust get on with it, thenâ She sighed, but he could tell she was afraid.
Dabi blinked in confusion at this, eyes not once leaving her.
âGet on with what?â He asked.
She seemed to huff in annoyance and her gaze left her hands to give him a death glare.
âYou know? Iâm fucking tired of your little games and pretended aloofness!â She growled. âNow that you and your friends know what happened, you obviously know I wonât join you! Youâre obviously here to kill me. So, get on with it!â She hissed through clenched teeth.
He was surprised at her outburst, but not even as near as her words. It was logical, thought. Still, he couldnât help but let out a loud chuckle.
âIâm not here to kill you, babeâ He assured, and shifted in his crouched position. âShigaraki was about to, though. I guess you owe me oneâ
She flinched a bit at the nickname, Dabi knew it was her least favorite of them all, but that didnât stop her from glaring at him even more.
âTorture me, then?â She asked, and he smirked at her.
âI suppose thatâll be fun, but no unless strictly necessaryâ He said mockingly.
âThen what?!â She said irritated.
âI wonât let you die until you tell meâ He replied, all mockery vanishing.
âTell you what?â She was starting to get nervous, he could tell. It was for the better, though. Sheâll probably quickly blurt out everything he wants to know to get this over with.
âEverythingâ
She blinked several times, her mouth moving trying to find what to say.
âYou already know everything!â She said overwhelmed âYou said they showed the police station footage. Thatâs everything. What is left to know?!â
Dabi maintained his composure at her panicked words. She was upset and scared. Probably thinking he was searching for an answer she couldnât provide and condemning her life because of it.
âI wanna know everything, dollâ He calmly said, hand reaching out to softly move the bangs out of her face. She didnât flinch at his touch; she stopped to about a week ago. Dabi didnât know exactly when it started: subtle touches here and there. It probably was that day she made a scene about wanting Twice to be the one to bring her the meals and stuff. He remembers that was the first time he didnât touch her in a menacing way. Since then, he hadnât stopped. At first she would flinch away (not much, because she didnât want to anger him and get burned in return) but after a week she mostly stopped. Almost every meal came with a subtle touch that mostly remained around her face and hair area: heâll brush her hair aside, or lightly tousle a strand of it; heâll grab her chin to make her look at him or even booping her nose to mock her.
âI wanna know how it all went downâ He said once his hands were off of her. âTell me, how does a girl like you decide to send her parents to the slaughterhouse?â
A flick of hatred crossed her eyes, and he knew it was directed to him. He didnât care, though. His entire body was itching for answers. It was almost too hard to remain still, his veins pumping so much adrenaline from the expectancy.
Feelings that mirrored his own almost perfectly... He needed to know what drove her to give her parents such destiny. Same destiny he wanted for his own father.
âDid they hurt you?â He asked, noticing she was taking too long to answer.
âTheyâve never laid a hand on meâ She said, lips quivering almost imperceptibly as she spoke. âNever touched a single hair of my headâ Dabi looked at her almost disbelieving and she let out a dry laugh. âYeah, I suppose thatâs hard to believe considering how⌠creative they were when killing their victimsâ
Creative was not the word. Gruesome, maybe. Unbelievably wicked. Not even Togaâs mind would ever dream most of the things they did, and thatâs saying something.
âIâve only realized about what they were doing a year before they finally got caughtâ She continued âI still wonder how I didnât manage to catch on sooner. All the red flags where there. I was homeschooled, wasnât able to talk to anyone, wasnât able to leave the apartment. If there was ever an emergency I wasnât to contact the police, I should just lock myself in my room and hide. They never talked about their crimes even though the News channel was always on. They always came with expensive stuff even if we lived in the worst part of the city. They hated heroesâ She listed and sighed. âThe more I think about it, the most convinced I am that my fatherâs quirk was activated on me most of the time. Most of my lifeâ She explained. âThey made me believe I was quirkless the entire time. I only found out went I finally realized who they were and what they didâ She added. âIt was when I asked them why they were so brutal and sadistic when they neednât to that I decided to take them downâ Her eyes finally looked straight at him âYou say you hate heroes who are in for the fame, for power, for money. Heroes with selfish and unworthy convictionsâ
He didnât answer her, he didnât need to.
âI understand your point of view. I understand there are selfish and shallow heroesâ She said looking straight at him. âJust like I understand there are villains that do what they do out of need. To feed their families and survive, and while theyâre not to be excused for their actions, theyâre nothing compared to the sadistic, sociopathic villains that do what they do for funâ She said with almost venom in her voice, directed to him, of course. âThatâs why I did itâ
He was biting down a chuckle. He wanted to laugh, so bad⌠Because the coincidences were just so ridiculous. The only difference was that she wasnât trained to be a villain, and her parents didnât physically abused her, it was only psychological abuse, considering her father probably took advantage of her own mind with his quirk her whole life.
But everything else?
âSame point of view from different perspectivesâ He said with an almost teasing smirk. âCute oxymoronâ She smiles icily in return.
âWith the difference that you want to condemn people that, whether theyâre selfish, theyâre doing the right thingâ She said with the icy smile still present.
âYouâre not ready to have that conversation with me just yet, babeâ He said and booped her nose, only this time she did move away from his touch almost instantly.
âAre you going to kill me now?â She asked him with clenched teeth.
âHadnât we discussed that already?â He said, finally getting up from his crouched position.
âWe didâ She said. âAnd you said you wouldnât let me die until I told you everything, and I already didâ She was challenging him again. âSo?â
âDo you really want me to kill you?â He said teasingly, but her serious face didnât falter for a second. In fact, her eyes seemed to be piercing right through his soul now.
âWhy would you keep me alive? You know I wonât join you.â She said, eyes not leaving his. âAnd we agreed before, that if you kill me, itâs still a win for you and a loss for the Prosâ Dabi felt the weird need of backing up, even though he didnât. âShigaraki told you to, and while I know how much you seem to like to annoy him, this is a bit unnecessary, even for you. So why did you stop him? To satisfy your curiosity?â She asked and he was about to reply but she was quicker. âWell, you already did. So why am I still alive when you know Iâm not of use anymore?â She continued pressing on the matter. âWhy do you want me alive, Dabi?â
It was the first time she used his name. And it shouldnât have affected him as much as it did.
He kept his well-rehearsed cool, though. If he gave a reaction, it was probably so imperceptible that she didnât manage to notice.
He still cursed at himself in his mind. Not only for letting something as trivial as his name coming from her mouth affect him, but because her question had him frozen in place even if he pretended to be fine.
Why did he want her alive? A now useless (if kept alive), ordinary wannabe hero?
âNot so ordinary, thoughâ His mind quietly pointed out.
He tried to consider her death in his mind. He knew that, if being rational, he should just go for it. Itâll save the League quite some trouble. They wouldnât worry about keeping her alive any longer and it also would bring them such satisfaction once the Heroes realize sheâs dead. Itâll be a big win. A safe win. Secured win, since they wouldnât have to worry about potential rescue missions from the heroes any longer.
He should go for it. Shigaraki wouldnât mind. He wants her dead after all. Heâll probably bicker about it for a while, because Dabi knew that Shigaraki probably wants to be the one to do it, but heâll get over it and the job will be done anyways. Also, if he killed her right now, Shigaraki wouldnât have any of the ridiculous suspicions he probably has now. He wouldnât have anything to hold against him. He wouldnât bother even more than he does now.
... But he canât.
And damned be him, he didnât know why.
Why does he want her alive? A question he didnât have the answer for, either. He was just as curious as she was.
He knew he was intrigued about her in before, he wanted to know about her, about her past. That shouldâve been it. He got his answers. He got what he wanted⌠and he still couldnât kill her.
It was just unthinkable.
He didnât understand what his deal was, but he needed to figure it out and quick.
He needed to get out of this situation first, though.
Her eyes where still on him, unwavering, waiting for an answer⌠a reasonable one.
Heâll be damned if he let her figure out how affected he actually was.
One of his many gifts was being quick at comebacks and excuses and while he never been in a âdeer in the headlightsâ situation for years like he was now, he managed to pull it off again.
âI just think is fun to have you aroundâ He said with a devilish smirk.
She blinked at his reply, her mood deflating and she almost looked defeated. She obviously didnât buy his excuse, though.
It didnât matter. He saw an opening and went for it. With his same bored pace as always, and his âpretended aloofnessâ as she called it, he excited the room without another word.
He needs to figure his shit out.
X
âHow incompetent can heroes be?â He said while quickly analyzed several shits of paper scattered on his desk. Several pieces of evidence, information and profiles where amongst them. âAnd they dare to call themselves Professionalsâ He almost growled out.
Pissed off was not enough to describe how he felt.
Endeavor knew⌠he just fucking knew.
He shouldâve been at the front line that damned day of the failed rescue mission. He shouldâve been dealing with those heroes first-hand, and not backing up All-Mightâs ass.
If he were to be there that day, looking at the villains in the eye, he wouldnât have let them escape, let alone with one of the students still with them.
Every single one of those villains wouldâve been in jail by now, and both students safe at their homes.
He wouldnât have failed like All Might did.
Just remembering about it angered him enough to want to burn the whole building down.
He knew itâll only be a matter of time before they came begging for his help. He figured that it was only pride that kept them from coming to him for so long.
They didnât have a choice: The Pro Heroes in the case were as helpful as nothing, the police were even worse⌠And now that Aizawa dropped the bomb about that girlâs they didnât know if time was on their side or not. The move Aizawa made was risky, but he knew somehow it was necessary.
âVillains will start to get desperate. They wonât be as careful now that they know the truthâ Aizawa said when he called him, and nearly begged him to take the lead on the case.
He was right.
He picked up one of the pictures one of his team members took just hours after he decided to take the reins of the case.
A blond haired guy could be seen in it, and it was obvious that he was in a panicked rush by the look on his face and his tensed up state. For most, it wouldnât look like much⌠if it wasnât for the big scar right in the middle of his forehead.
It only took a few hours for him to get the first, big lead on the case. He couldnât help but smirk.
Heâll prove that heâs a much more competent Number One Hero than All Might ever was.
Unlike him, heâll get the job done.
A.N.:
We have Dabi struggling already... and Enji's taking care of the case now. How long do you think it'll take him to rescue reader? Idk why it felt a little awkward to use 'Enji' so I settled with Endeavor instead. We'll get reader's perspective next
