Honestly, I think the main “angst” for Jean is not even that he is forgotten or replaced. If it was just only that than Jean would….you know….actually try helping Harry to remember him (and Jean wasn’t even replaced, him letting Harry work with Kim and not doing anything about it is solely his decision)

I think it’s also the fact that….Jean doesn’t want to admit he was wrong. He was wrong to think Harry would be okay when Jean left him when during his mental breakdown, he was wrong to think that Harry is lying about his amnesia, he was wrong to think that his G-Bevy joke would work, and most importantly, he was wrong to think that Harry could never change

I think he perhaps prided himself for being the one who “knows Harry best” he completely denies any possibility of Harry not fitting into the expectations that Jean has of him

This is why I think a lot of conversations of Jean “knowing the true Harry” are inaccurate, and even patronising towards Harry , because the whole point is that….Jean doesn’t actually, he constantly projects a lot of his own issues, expectations and internalised ableism onto Harry
