It’s a way to compare the characters of Arisu, Chishiya, and Niragi, and show their adaptability to change.

To begin, the initial main focus of it all is Chishiya. He has just left the King of Diamonds venue, and has realized that he is jealous of people like Kuzuryuu who are able to die happily with a purpose. He is seeking to speak with someone, to open up about his inner turmoils. That is when he gets caught between Arisu and Niragi, two ends of a morality spectrum he is struggling to find his place on.

Now, why does Niragi start this shootout? He says that he, Arisu, and Chishiya are all too similar, and due to this only one of them can live (although, it is later evident that it is for this very reason all three of them survive). Niragi doesn’t say they are similar in regards to their actions in the games; he says this in regards to how they are all inherently selfish people at the core. They put themselves first and foremost, whether intentional or not, and hurt those around them as a result.

For Arisu, this makes more sense in the context of his manga characterization. Manga Arisu has the unintentional tendency of doing things for his own sake when he thinks he has the group’s best interest at heart, and his speech mannerisms mainly revolve around his own feelings. He is selfish without realizing it. The shootout finally makes him conscious of this, and makes him want to remedy this. He is adaptable to change for the better.

For Chishiya, this has been evident from the beginning. He will manipulate and use others for his own gain, without worrying what happens to them afterward. He never goes out of his way to help others, but at the same time never directly hurts them either. He has and recognizes this selfish indifference towards all facets of life. However, the games make him envious of people like Arisu, who are adaptable to change.

For Niragi, it has always been obvious how he embraces his selfishness. He enjoys going out of his way to hurt others and make them suffer. He becomes the abuser to keep from being vulnerable. He is the oddball out of the three, because despite everything, he does not want to change.

Their selfishness is just the example that Niragi gives, but there are other things they have in common as well. Their upbringings, for one – they all lacked love and affection in their home lives. What makes them different in this sense is that Arisu had Chota and Karube to hold him up, who made him more friendly and optimistic towards life. Chishiya had no friends, but no enemies either, which led to his indifference towards life. Niragi had abusers, which led to his hatred and resentment towards life. There’s also how they all initially wanted to stay in the Borderlands; Arisu because he wanted to avoid his real world responsibilities, Chishiya because he was intrigued by the intellectual stimulation and death of the games, and Niragi because he could thrive in a world without laws. But they all eventually came to the realization that they wanted to leave; Arisu first due to escaping and finding a reason for living, Chishiya next due to realizing he needs to reject the offer to truly change, and finally Niragi not because he changed, but because he simply wanted to live.

As you can see, they are all similar characters at three different levels of intensity. Arisu at level one, the level where he is still capable of goodness. Niragi at level three, where he is too far gone and considered evil. Chishiya is stuck in a morally gray area between the two, trying to figure out where he should place himself.

Anyways, back to the shootout. Chishiya came here to talk to Arisu because he wanted to change for the better. But then Niragi came and pulled him backwards, halting his progress. The shootout is a battle of moralities; a push-and-pull between Arisu’s good and Niragi’s evil.

The whole point of this scene was to give all three of them time for introspection. Who are they currently, and who do they want to become? Niragi’s comment about all of them being similar spurs their answers. Arisu is disgusted at the realization of being so similar to Niragi, so he quickly puts his gun down and pledges to change. Chishiya is inclined to distance himself from Niragi once he sees Arisu’s resolve, and only puts his gun down to become uncharacteristic and save Usagi. And Niragi, upon seeing the other two take this chance to renew themselves, realizes that he was foolish to believe anyone could be like him in the first place. He truly is alone in this world, and he only has himself to blame for it. He never lets go of his gun – he fires. And in that split second, why does Arisu pick his gun back up after vowing to change? He does it to save Usagi. To not be selfish and shoot Niragi out of his own hatred, but for the sake of saving Usagi’s life instead. Saving Usagi is the turning point for Arisu’s character, and for Chishiya as well. Niragi’s attempt to kill her demonstrates how he never wanted to change to begin with.

So yes, Niragi was right in saying they are all similar in terms of their selfishness. But he was wrong to believe that they were kindred to him and could not change.

TLDR; all three of them are foils, bound together by their inherent selfishness. This shootout is the defining scene for their characters. Arisu is adaptable to change, Chishiya struggles with his alignment but ultimately chooses to change like Arisu, and Niragi was never meant to change in the first place.

Sneaking into the office, Y/n can hear Chishiya’s voice on the walkie-talkie. Her eyes darted around, nervously as she knows the actual plan, well she knew the actual plan. Now that Arisu brought her along, she didn’t know what was gonna happen and that made her nervous.

Punching in the code, the safe beeps signaling that the code was wrong. Arisu now scared, his eyes wide, pulled at the safe hoping it would open.

“It’s not opening.” He pulled some more. “Chishiya.” His eyes looked over his shoulder at Y/n to see her taking steps back towards the door, her focus on him.

“Chishiya! You there?” He spoke again.

Y/n watched as Niragi, Aguni and their goonies walked into the room, their eyes falling on Y/n before she pointed to Arisu.

“Ya, I really gotta hand it to you. You got balls.” Niragi taunts.

Y/n’s eyes quickly found Chishiya, as she ran over to him. His clm exterior unbroken though she knew he was relieved by the quick kiss he placed on her temple as she hid her face in his neck.

“You’re safe. I’m right here. Don’t worry.” His whisper’s filled her ears, as she focused on his voice.

Slightly pushing her away, his arm falling to her waist. “Go back to our room. Ill be there in a few minutes.”

Nodding, she places a kiss on his cheek, before running off to their room.

Snuggled in under the covers, she watched the door, waiting for Chishiya to walk in. Finally after what felt like forever, the door opened. 

Smiling, she watches her close the door and shrug off his white jacket, placing it on a chair, before pulling off his shirts as well just towing that on the ground in the pile with their other dirty clothes.

Her eyes fell on his bare body, though no muscles showed he was still slightly toned. Opening her arms, Chishiya smiled tiredly, lifting the cover and sliding in. Wrapping his arms around her hips and resting his head on her chest.

“ ‘m so tired.” He mumbled.

Giggling, she nodded. “Me too. We can go to bed now though baby. Just me and you.” Lifting his chin up she places a kiss on his lips.

Moving to pull away, his hand stops her as it slides to the back of her neck. Placing his lips on her’s roughly, she gasped slightly not expecting it.

Smiling into the kiss, she pulled away not out of air. “What was that all about.”

Chuckle slightly placed his head back on her chest. “Stupid kid, changing my plan. Made me nervous. I told them that he forced you along, but I didn’t know if they’d believe me. Was scared that Niragi would do something to you.” His voice muffled at the end as he buried his head in her chest.

Eyes wide, Y/n sat silent at his confession. Chishiya was never good with words and the fact that he said all of what he did was surprising.

Sighing happily she places a kiss on his head. “I love you.”

“ ‘m love you too.” His voice muffled once again, though she knew what he said, a goofy smile on her face as it was the first time he had ever replied.

“ ‘m so proud of you.” She mumbled into his hair, placing one more kiss before letting the exhaustion take over.

♡ Chishiya Being Jealous Over You Includes... ♡

♡• It's not like he doesn't expect other people you happen to meet around the Borderlands to not take any notice of you when you happen to be in games or something together. Chishiya is well aware that you're a very pretty person, not just by your looks. The two of you are practically unstoppable when you're working together in a complicated game, and that kind of success that you give each other does attract attention. Not just the suspicious and desperately frustrated attention of "How the hell are they doing this? Are they gamemasters or something?!" which Chishiya finds mildly amusing. It's when eyes linger on you, on your face, your body, for a moment too long, that his deep brown gaze will tint with an almost unnoticeable hint of venom.

♡• Chishiya Shuntaro doesn't like those starers. Not when it's you they're ogling.

♡• I'm not saying that he'll immediately get huffy and insecure Arisu 😏 or defensive and aggressive Niragi 😵 but he doesn't like it. He knows when it's happening, of course, since he's a very observant man, and so when he notices it, with just one emotionless stare at them, Chishiya will get the gist of what's going on in their head pretty quickly.

♡• They're not a threat to him. He's not scared of anyone, and won't back down from them. And it's not like he doesn't trust you, because he absolutely does, and knows that there's no way you'd fall for their words and shameless eyes as soon as they approach you. Still, it doesn't mean he won't make sure they're put in their place.

♡• It's like - you know how Arisu got caught when he found the fake safe, and Chshiya was just flipping around the walkie-talkie with his usual smug, unbothered smirk? It's kind of similar to that. He'll screw them over purposefully, maybe even put a bit of effort into it, because he can. Because he's smarter than them. And because you're his.

♡• Chishiya knows you can handle yourself, and turn them down as soon as they try coming on to you, but if they still persist and you're clearly uncomfortable, yeah, he'll step right in. One step in front of you, calmly and indifferently, he'll give them a scarily blank look and say something laced with a tinge of poison, like, "You should keep moving. Someone will get hurt." It's not in a way that he's saying he'll beat them to death on the spot 😂 but it's a warning that the next game they're in, he won't be helping them. Not one bit. He won't directly kill them, but if anything bad happens, it happens.

♡• Or maybe he'll pick up something about them just by watching them go about their way in the Borderlands, overhear a few conversations, and he's got them. Chishiya has his ways, and by the time he's finished saying what he's had to say, you notice that they're suddenly looking anywhere but in your direction, and Chishiya's satisfied half-smile that only grows when you clock what's going on and give him a glare.

♡• It also makes him rethink, yet again, of how ridiculously lucky he is to have you. After someone tries and ultimately fails to get your attention in a certain way, you'll randomly find Chishiya staring at you for longer than he usually does, or being a little more sentimental. It's just his way of showing you that he appreciates you, that he's truly in love, and never to doubt it. In moments when he's softer and more vulnerable, like late at night or alone on a rooftop, you'll hear it from him, and him saying those words with that intense gaze is aaaghh- 😍

♡• Basically, Chishiya doesn't get jealous in the usual way, not defensive and impulsive, or insecure and stuttery. He's just himself, and at the end of the day, you're one of the very few things that means a lot to him. The only incentive he had to win games before was for the sheer fun of it, really, not because he was desperate to survive, but literally because he could. But now that you've come along, there's one reason he's never had before, and no idiot trying to push their way into your relationship will ruin that reason. Love. 💙

Vampire!Niragi uses his vampire side like a second personality. While he programs during the day and is seen like a nerd who wont hurt a insect he is completly different at night. He doest not need sleep, uses his nights to go to clubs and act up on his own desires, not caring about others.

Its there where he meets you.

He is surronded by different peopel, ones who seems dangerous and atractive, really they are the talk of the club. And you just happen to pass by, following your friend to the bar.

Niragi catches your smell, its suprising how its stronger than the alcohol and drugs going around. You have his full attention from there, watches as you order your drink and how you laught at some comment from a mere human.

He is up soon, leaving his friends behind as he makes his way towards you. You dont seem to register him, too lost in the little chat, however the man notices Niragi right away, a flash of his vampire theeths is enough to get him running away.

"Humans, they run at the smallest sight of danger" Niragi says, back facing the bar as he moves his hand, the bartender gives him a quick drink, something with alcohol and blood.

"Im human too" Its your simple response. You are too stunned by the man, well vampire. His face is perfect, tall, dark hair, a relaxed posture but it also screams dominance.

"And tell me, are you a human who runs away from danger?" He asks taking your chin between his hands to look deep in your eyes.

He leans in, his lips too close, his body is cold, like any vampire, but it makes a fire start inside you. He is not shy, not even in public, his other hand taking your waist to pull you against him. You are able to feel it, and it has you wet in seconds just imagining how it would felt.

The kiss is demanding, eyes looking some enjoying the public display, others being jealous of it. He moves against you, forcing you to feel how hard he is for you.

You have never done something so...dirty, specially in front of so many.

Once he pulls away you are let breathless, on the other way he seems completly still. He finishes his drink and takes your hand, your mind too fuzzy to register where you two are going. Its only once he starts to claim up some stairs you realize he is taking you to a private room.

No matter how hard he tries not to look jealous, he's bad at it. ARISU would look very sad from a far as he watches you get in touch with an old male friend of yours whom he's heard from you that left the country a few years ago and returned a few days ago, but before leaving, that same old male friend confessed his feelings.

"I'm back, Arisu!"

So now what becomes of him? Is he going to get disposed now that he's back? Is the feelings that were once dead coming back to life? Did they even linger while you were dating him?

"Arisu? Arisuuuu!"

Maybe he's just a rebound? A test of water to see if you could love again after his departure. Maybe, just maybe, it would be best to break things off now with you.

"Arisu!"

"Huh?" The raven haired male hums, snapping out of his reverie as he grounds himself back to reality, to you.

"You know I'm yours, right?" He hears you say, cupping his cheeks and squishing them together. "I may look happy seeing him but there's no one else I'll go home to but you!"

And there it is. The words of assurance he needed to hear that he still has you.

For as long as he lives, he'll never admit his jealousy. CHISHIYA would rather much die than show weakness. But sometimes, his own premise to himself falters when it involves you.

"Did you like that person's company at the bar?" He asks, hands tucked inside the pockets of his jacket, sitting atop of the high chair. "It seems that they are more than ready to keep the drinks going."

"The person at the bar?" You repeat. "I don't like their company neither the attention they give me." You say, taking steps closer to him.

"That's good to hear." He replies.

"Were you perhaps...jealous?"

"No I wasn't. I was just looking out for you."

"But that's practically the same."

"Just be thankful."

Even without the alcohol, NIRAGI always wanted to be by your side - morning til night.

"Niragi, I'm hot." He hears you complain, his arms draped around your figure.

"Of course you are." He responded, the scent of his cologne mixed with alcohol and gun powder wafting around him. "Look at how these idiots' look at you."

"But I don't care about them." You reply, pouting. "I want to go back inside the hotel and take a cold shower."

"Aw, but I kind of like the attention were getting here." He coos, placing a kiss on top of your head. "If were here, everyone knows were together." He adds.

"Should we take a dip in the pool instead? I'll get you more cold drinks." He compromises.

"Seems fair." You reply.

"Oi" Niragi suddenly calls out, voice deep as he stands on his feet, rifle always ready in hand. "Got something to say? I saw how you were staring at us."

"No thanks, I'm goo-"

"Fuck off, creep. Guys like deserve to get a bullet in the head."

Before things could even escalate, please control him. He only listens to you after all.

"Is your phone more important than me?"

As much as LAST BOSS doesn't want to admit too, the green feeling latched onto him ever since all this began.

Before even getting to how it is, he lays out all the movies the two of you promised to watch together along with the snacks and drinks of your liking; going as far as letting you borrow his hoodie.

But up to the second movie and you're still on your phone? What the hell is this?

"Who are you even texting?" He asks but it sounded more like a demand.

"Me?" You ask. "It's only my co worker. I'm actually-"

"How much do you two text in a day?"

"...A fair amount? But listen-"

"We don't even text each other like that. The casual good morning, good night and wanna come over texts is all we send each other."

"I know. But aren't we like that because we usually spend time each other than sending texts?"

"Why are you even asking me all this? What's gotten into you? Are you jealous?"

Not replying to the accusation, all he could do is look away to hide the tinge of pink splotching on his cheeks. When he couldn't control it, he'd bite his inner cheek.

"My co worker is a new hired. I told them to text me if they're encountering any problems that was beyond what we covered. But you have me!" You reply, straddling on his lap while wrapping your arms around his neck. "You have all of me."

He knows it's pointless to talk about a topic like this but what could he do when he's curious? KARUBE just wanted to know what your ex partners were like when you were dating them.

"Well..." You begin to say, racking up your brain to reminisce the old, deep hidden memories inside your mind. The ones you've managed to remember the last bits of memories you made with them.

"Some of them were romantic to begin, some of them not quite. Some were good in bed, but some aren't." You added, receiving a slow nod of head from Karube.

"Except this one person." You quickly took note, rambling how this ex partner of yours knew how to push your buttons when in bed.

And as you draw on and on, the jealousy begins to build up in him. His feelings and expression changed into a dark on.

"You can stop now. You lost me at the beginning already." He stops you short, finishing the rest of his beer.

"Are you...jealous? You know I'm yours, right?"

Karube makes a face, brushing off the jealousy he feels like it's nothing.

"Me? Jealous? Why would I be?" He asks. "Though you lost me in the beginning of your story, I can give you much more than them. There isn't anyone else in this world that can make you feel good except me."
