do you prefer jealous george or jealous dream (in fanfic/art)

THEYRE BOTH SO GOOD ANON.... they scratch different areas of my brain but I looooove them. I think they pass the baton on who gets to be the more insane one

prepare for an essay andy...... none of these are new or controversial opinions, I just love talking about it. dnf jealousy is one I actually love seeing different takes on, because there's so many ways to play with the dynamic. we know they both are jealous boys, so it's just a matter of which flavour you like

for me, Dream's jealousy was at it's peak in 2020-2021 because they were blowing up, and suddenly A LOT of people wanted to know them. dnf both love interacting with people but Dream has a more obvious introvert streak, versus George really wanted to make as many new friends as he could. this meant there were suddenly new competitors for George's time and attention, and Dream didn't take that well.

they're constantly on call together because of the physical distance. poor Dream gets teased by Q (9:05-9:38) and Karl about wanting to always be involved in George's business, even when he's spending time with other people

early dnf had some friction in the differences of their communication styles, as really exemplified by THE "I love you" fight. Dream expressed affection so openly, it was easy for George to know that Dream loved him and so he felt more secure in their relationship.

for Dream, he definitely knew that George loved him on some level, but there were now competitors for the position of #1 in George's heart and so he puffed up his chest and hogged as much time as he could with George, jealous of anyone who might try to take that #1 spot. because he's a himself, he really took that title of jealous and George-obsessed and wore it like a badge of honour (AS HE SHOULD), because it just further stuck his claim on George. he was truly on a leash and collar then, and while the intensity has wavered because there aren't really any comparable threats to George's attention, I Know In My Heart that even now Dream can pull out the jealousy at the drop of a hat.

jealous!George feels very post-face reveal to me, when they're better at understanding the way each other expresses emotion and there's less friends vying for their attention. by this point, George has shown Dream again and again that he will choose him (through controversy and major life changes and careers and social suicide), so Dream is way less insecure about their bond. now that they're in Florida, they naturally spend time together and generally only have to leave each other's side if Dream (or Sapnap) has commitments elsewhere, or if Dream is busy working on a project.

so Dream's time and attention is being taken away from George by people/projects/things that he can't or won't be a part of. instead the people interested in them are generally more corporations or people outside the scene (ex. Musicians and labels)

everything is far less in George's control, because it's a degree removed from his business, whereas Dream was also involved with the people vying for George's attention, and could direct his jealousy to them directly.

George's jealousy and insecurity comes from the fear that Dream will move into that life instead and George won't be involved in projects directly anymore. since this move was partly because of the messiness of the mcyt scene and Dream wanting to explore other avenues, there's a fear that it might extend to his love life. Dream might find someone who understands the fame but is outside of the mcyt slo-mo car crash (dodges the awkwardness of dating a non-famous person or a fan or someone who is basically a co-worker).

this won't happen obviously, but George is fighting invisible demons on it, because the issue is that he just has no way of knowing what's going on unless Dream tells him. and that's unacceptable because he's an expert on Dreamie-ology and he hates it when any information gets withheld.

because there's no face to the people that George should be jealous of, and because George doesn't do jealousy the same way that Dream does, I think it gets masked as a lot of other things, like being grumpy or protective, but my FAVE is him being really entitled.

when George gets jealous of others getting Dream's attention, I think he'll bait Dream into doing things for him: buying him new shoes (10:12-10:28), editing videos for him, arranging outings for them, etc. even if Dream doesn't do it, I think he likes seeing Dream's reactions and likes when he considers it. I loooooove the idea of Dream giving him the chain because George demanded it in his weird roundabout way ("well clearly you're just being greedy now, Dream, nobody needs two chains. are you just going let it go to waste? sit in the dusty glizz in your closet?").

George will not be defeating the sugar baby allegations because as much as he wants the freedom and to be seen as capable, he loves being shown that he's taken care of and wanted. it's not necessarily the money (although he has expensive taste), it's the thought behind it all. he's like the pet that ignores you until you're doing something else and gets mad if you stop petting him

even if we're in the jealous!George era, I think on some level he knows that Dream always comes home, and when he does, it's because George is waiting for him

I think if I had to choose one........ jealous Dream all the way

my little guard dog who snarls and marks his territory and thinks he's a lapdog. tries to sit on George's lap because of his twink dysphoria..... .he thinks he marked his territory with the chain and now that he's sunk his teeth in George's neck, he simply won't let go. George struggles a bit and he just wags his tail faster 🥰
