This week's activist and hero of mine is Jay Odjick! Jay is an Algonquin comics creator, illustrator, speaker, and activist from the Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg community. His superhero comic and TV series, Kagagi: The Raven, is based on an Anishinabe tale about a trickster. You can read more (and watch more on APTN) here - http://kagagi.squarespace.com/kagagi/! Jay has also recently published a children's book with Robert Munsch called Blackflies which you can find here - https://www.chapters.indigo.ca/en-ca/books/blackflies/9781443157148-item.html! Jay has spoken with the CBC numerous times on issues such as appropriation, his series on the Algonquin language (http://www.cbc.ca/news/indigenous/jay-odjick-twitter-algonquin-words-1.3989152), and on the importance of First Nations comics. His exhibit will also be featured at the Canadian Museum of History soon http://www.historymuseum.ca/media/canadian-museum-of-history-celebrates-near-completion-of-its-new-signature-gallery/.
