Jason screams, the burning liquid of the pit filling his mouth. He swallows reflexively and finds himself drowning, drowning! The pit scalds his insides, tearing him down and rebuilding him in its twisted image.

He screams and screams and screams until the hands holding him down disappear. But thrash as he might, he can't rise above the poison green to breathe in the air. He panics and claws at his chest, trying to free himself from-

Two hands touch his shoulders. Just touch. No dragging or pushing or drowning. They move to his cheeks, brushing over them ever so softly and Jason cries out, for what, he does not know.

He opens his eyes and he sees green. Before he can panic again, it blinks and he realized they are eyes. Green eyes, that stand out amongst the pit.

The next thing he knows, he's surfacing and choking and gasping for air. He curls inward, not noticing the hands for a long moment, and coughs the pit from his lungs.

When he blinks back the green and red and rage, he looks up and sees an unfamiliar figure, blurred by bright green haze. Jason tries to rise from where he is kneeling, closer now to the edge of the pit, but gentle hands rest on his shoulders and he stops. 

The person is standing before him and Jason can tell that he is likely much taller than they are. His face is at their stomach and he glances down only to see their bare groin, and he looks away quickly in embarrassment. 

A soft chuckle comes from above and finally he looks up. The man is slender, with slim muscles filling his frame out enough that Jason starts to wonder about him being a threat, but the gentle touches deter that thought. 

Two hands softly grasp his face tilting his head up just so. His thumbs sooth along Jason's cheekbones. 

Jason admires the curl of wet black hair against the pale forehead and cheeks. Green eyes are bright and calm and he can feel that calmness soften his senses. He doesn't worry, oddly enough, and let the thoughts float away. He closes his eyes and the other man runs the pads of his thumbs ever-so-gently along his eyelids.

"Jason," he speaks and starts to run his hands through Jason's hair. He startles at the noise, having grown used to the silence. Opening his eyes once more he sees him smiling softly. "Jason."

"Who…?" Jason rasps, managing not to devolve into a coughing fit by some miracle. His hands clutch at the others hips, suddenly desperate and confused. He glances around and sees absolutely no one aside from the two of them. "What…?"

"Hush, Jason," he cups his cheeks and tilts his face again so they once again meet eyes. "Calm. I mean you no harm." Fingers curl in his hair and tug ever so slightly and Jason stands, using the man's freely given help to support himself.

Like he thought, he's a head and a half taller than the man. The trim waist and bare skin catch his eye and he blushes. The gentle touches and attractive figure making him react embarrassing him.

But the man just laughs lightly and pats his cheek, "Perhaps another time." The response makes him swallow but he turns his attention back to his surroundings. 

"What…" Jason coughs, "What happened? Who are you?"

He smiles brightly at Jason, "My name is Harry."

Jason waits for Harry to continue but he just stands there with that charming, bright smile. So he sighs. "Are you with the League? What do you want?"

Harry laughs almost bitterly, "Not a part of the League, I assure you. I couldn't interfere past a certain point so I can't take care of the whole thing but I can at least help you." He takes Jason's hands in his and squeezes them, "Which was the most important part for me."

Jason is hesitant and Harry obviously notices, going by his morose expression. 

"You have no reason to trust me, but I want to help you. I hold you to no debt or such thing; you're free to do as you will. I just…" Suddenly Harry is shy, shifting on his feet and one hand rises to play with his hair. "I would like to request to stay with you."

Normally Jason would be more prone to suspicion and anger, as it is these days, but he finds himself thinking more clearly than he has since he woke up.

"Why am I so calm?" He manages.

Harry blinks then smiles wryly, "Well, you see, I'm somewhat of a… counter to the pit."

Jason furrows his eyebrows and frowns, about to ask for clarification but Harry shakes his head. "I'm afraid that's not an easy or… appropriate subject at the moment." He gestures to the edge of the pit where Jason sees clothes laid out and a small bag.

He looks at Harry, confused.

Harry blatantly looks him up and down before putting his hands on his hips. "There's a reason they stripped you and why I undressed before entering the pit. It's not a pleasant experience."

Jason nods and makes his way over on wobbly legs, Harry following close behind.

Soon enough they are mostly dry and dressed. Jason looks around at this point, unsure of what to do. He hears Harry approach and does nothing but sigh when a slim hand touches his arm. 

"If you could go anywhere, Jason, where would you like to go?"

Jason's mind flashes to the pictures Talia taunted him with. Flashes back to the Joker over him, swinging the crowbar. He thinks of Bruce and all he can say is, "Gotham."

Harry hums and takes his hand, holding it. Jason finds that it grounds him. "I want to… I want to see. And understand."

"Okay," Harry agrees, "Do you want to stay there for a while?"

"I… I guess? I don't really…" Jason trails off and Harry squeezes his hand, pulling him from his distress. "Yeah."

"Mm. Jason, I can get us there easily, all I ask is that you refrain from questions until we get to safety." Harry pauses, as if he suddenly realized something. "I… Um, do you want me to stay with you?"

Jason stares at Harry, taking in his nervous playing with his drying hair. It's only just long enough to touch his shoulders in curls worse than his own. Big green eyes are looking up at him. He should be suspicious. He is suspicious. But he knows his answer anyway. 

"Yeah."

He shifts on his feet at Harry's beaming smile.

Harry squeezes his hand again, "I'll take us straight to Gotham and we'll grab a hotel room to rest in before finding an apartment. Is that okay?"

"Yeah, but when you say 'straight there' what do you-"

"Ah, ah! I said ‘no questions yet’!" Harry laughs and Jason rolls his eyes. "Now, take a deep breath." He waits until he does so and then suddenly they twist and they're gone.
