Rhett was counting the cash out from the fight, tucked into the back room of what was little more than a takeout restaurant’s backroom. He knew the owners and they let him use it. This shit didn’t follow him home. He’d wash the money through his business, keep suspicions down. It was all part of it getting this big. He was sitting behind the desk, working methodically, when his 90 pound jet black, and mean as fuck Doberman stood up. The dog had a reputation for being aggressive, and he’d square up to basically anyone. Rhett paused, listening, the dog didn’t bark, a half a second of a growl escaped him. There was over fifteen different vocals that Alto had, and Rhett knew them all. This was a friend rather than a foe that was headed in.

Placing out Jayden’s cut, Rhett leaned back. Rhett had disappeared before the fights were truly over. Spencer, one of the fight medics, and brought a nurse friend that Rhett met earlier at the senior citizen home that he was working on. She interested him then, and he was never someone to squander a shot. So he left with her. Without even showing his face again after the fight. That was something of unlike Rhett, he didn’t leave before the night was done, after fighting. Instead, he stuck around, helped close things down, and usually if there was a leftover girl who tried just the right way, he’d go home with her and be done with it. Rhett didn’t offer any apology or explanation. It was a sign of trust that he walked away and left Jay to handle it. “Here’s your cut,” he said with a nod. Then, to Alto, “Down.” Back to Jay, “Didn’t hear anything to the contrary, so I assume it went fine.”

Jayden wasn’t her driver, but it felt excessive to have a driver and a security detail, so she’d somehow conned him into driving one her trucks as well. It was mostly just nice to have company, which was how she was looking at it, like another buddy to hang out with, instead of a security detail. Even if he did likely have a weapon stashed on his person, concealed, somewhere. They were on the way back from the doctors, and June was trying to convince him, “Listen, consider it a side quest. We’re somewhat headed that way anyway, I figure we could just drive by this one little piece of property, you know, just to look at the state of it.” She’d found another listing while she was waiting and figured she could sneak a drive by. “Five, ten minutes out of the way, tops. There’s this other one on the same road, too.”
