If you're not aware, since last night this debate about who gets the title of greatest athlete ever has been resurrected. I just find the conversation around Serena and Tom to be interesting. To me an athlete is someone who has it on a physical level and so Serena in that aspect is better. Even in the game last night Mahomes was making throws falling and stuff that Tom could never do. The one knock against him is if you get pressure on him he can't escape. Now is he the greatest QB, yeah but he's definitely not the most athletic QB. As far as the cross-sport debate, tennis is a one-person show as are gymnastics, swimming, boxing, etc. Success and failure depend on one person. While on the other hand, in team sports, winning is predicated on the play of the team. The way both are played is different, some have said tennis is more strenuous on the body due to the amount of time and energy one exerts over an entire tournament as opposed to football players having much more recovery time and even in-game rest. In football is the QB most important? Some would say yes. So again is Tom the greatest TEAM sports players, one of them for sure not excluding the Messi's, Ronaldo's, Jordan's, LeBron's and Kobe's and others of the world. Is Serena one of the best individual sports players, w/o a doubt. Is she the greatest in her sport (men's and women's)? I believe she is.
