Dinah was folding the laundry, to help out June, when Jacob came storming into the room and sat angrily on the couch. She glanced over at him worriedly and asked "Are you okay?" When all she got was a little shake of his head and a frown, she felt her worry deepen. "Do you wanna talk about it?", she asked softly. When he just shook his head again, she decided to go back to folding laundry. She wanted to know what he was angry about and how she could help, but she didn't want to push him too far and start a fight between them. When the tension in the room became unbearable, she decided to take a walk and give him some space.
She was lost in her thoughts as she was walking along the outskirts of the property. Her phone ringing brought her out of her head and she pulled it out of her pocket to answer it. As soon as she pressed accept and put the phone to her ear, she heard the voice of her mother. "Hi Dinah, it's Mom", was the first thing her mother said. Dinah rolled her eyes, feeling thankful that her mom couldn't see her, and answered "Hi Mom." "How are you doing, honey? Is that boy treating you right?", her mother asked, voice sounding slightly worried. Dinah let out a little chuckle at her mother's unnecessary worry, then answered "I'm doing fine, Mom." Dinah and her mother proceeded to have a short conversation, in which her mother asked when they could meet Jacob, before they said goodbye and ended the call. Dinah had just decided to start heading back towards the house when she saw Jacob walking towards her. She slowly made her way in his direction, still feeling a little cautious in case he was still in a bad mood. Once they finally reached each other, they stood in awkward silence for a few minutes before Jacob softly pulled Dinah into a hug. "I'm sorry", he whispered into her neck. Dinah pulled back a little, so she could look into his eyes, before she replied "It's ok. You're allowed to be upset, you know." "I know, but I didn't mean to make you feel like you had to give me space though. I really do appreciate that you were trying to help", he said. Dinah just gave him a soft smile. "Is everything okay?", she asked. Jacob let out a sigh, before answering "Everything's fine. I just had a moment of insecurity and didn't know how to deal with it. I'm a little emotionally constipated, If you couldn't tell?" They both let out a small laugh at that before deciding to head back to the house.
As soon as they got back to the house, Dinah hurried to put the laundry away before going up to meet with Jacob in their bedroom. As soon as she walked into the bedroom, and saw that he was already in his boxers on the bed, she stripped down to her underwear and then grabbed one of his shirts to nap in. The moment that she climbed into the bed, Jacob wrapped his arms around her and pulled her closer to him. After a chaste kiss, and Dinah was settled with her head on his chest, they fell into a blissful sleep together.

The beast’s legacy (3)
Summary: Tall. Dangerous. Alpha. Sam Winchester is someone you should not piss off unless you want to pay for your sins. No one touches his mate, no one who wants to stay alive.
Pairing: Alpha!Mobster!Sam Winchester x Omega!Reader; Alpha!Mobster!Dean x Omega!Cassie Robinson
Characters: Jody Mills, Donna Hanscum, Amelia Richardson, unnamed Ofc
Warnings: a/b/o, a/b/o dynamics, angst, scared reader, dominant mobster alpha Sam, scenting, soul mate trope, pregnant omega, true mates, protective Sam, violence, implied characters death, threats, giving birth (no description), implied smut, language
A/N: For my story true mates = soul mates. The name of your true mate appears on your wrist when you first scent him/her.
<< Part 2
“ENOUGH!” everyone looks at Sam, the kingpin of Lebanon. “There will be no further explanation coming from me. Not today. Not ever.” He breathes heavily. His eyes wild Sam looks at Donna and the deputy who was stupid enough to ‘arrest’ the angry alpha.
“Mr. Winchester, we tried to get some answers from you. It’s our job to investigate the death of this man. We all know that you defended your omega,” Donna tries to reason with an angry alpha, failing miserably.
“Law is on my side, Sheriff. If you want to arrest me for defending my pregnant mate, you can try. Understood?” his eyes darken, and Jody needs to step into the room to stop Donna from getting hurt. “So, what's it gonna be?”
“Hanscum,” Jody places one hand onto Donna’s shoulder, silently telling the beta to just drop the case and forget about the alpha getting in Sam Winchester’s way. “Mr. Winchester is right. You know it. I know it.”
Donna slumps back into her chair, dropping her gaze at Jody’s words. She knows there is no way Sam will pay for his crimes, not with the law and half of town on his side.
“That’s what I thought,” Sam meets Jody’s gaze, telling her to let him go before he loses his patience once for all. “You dragged me away from my heavily pregnant mate. Forced me to leave her side. If she got hurt or anything happens to my baby as you scared her – you will not like my answer.”
Sam gets off the chair, scraping it purposely over the floor before he kicks it to the ground. “If I ever see your face again, you’ll regret it,” Donna flinches when Sam towers over her. “I usually not lose my patience in front of ladies, but you aimed a gun toward my head in front of my fiancé. That wasn’t necessary nor wise.”
“Sam,” Jody bites her tongue when Sam’s head snaps toward her. “She didn’t know better, Mr. Winchester. She’s new in town, doesn’t know the rules.”
“You better tell her about the rules and explain the law to your little friend again. I don’t like to repeat myself and, I’m no one giving people second chances easily. I’ll forget about her behavior for now,” nodding Jody opens the door for Sam, watching the tall alpha walk out of the room.
“I’m sorry, Sam,” Jody sighs outside the room. “I tried to stop her. She’s new and wants to show everyone a beta can be tough too.”
For a moment, Sam’s features soften. He owes Jody a lot; more than he’ll ever be able to pay back. That’s the only reason he didn’t rip Donna and the deputy apart.
“Consider this a warning, Jody. I know you will make her understand the rules. I didn’t like to kill that man. I did it to protect my mate and this town.”
“I know,” understanding Sam’s reasons Jody grasps his hand, squeezing it tightly. “If anyone believes you are not the beast you claim to be, they will try to take over your property and it would end like back then when Lucifer came to town.”
“Exactly,” Sam shudders for a moment, remembering all the things Lucifer did to him and his family. “I will never let anything happen to my family and this town again. I swore to myself to protect this town will be my legacy.”
“She will not cause any trouble for you or Dean again, promised,” a soft smile meets Jody for a blink before it’s gone. She still remembers the ‘old’ Sam. The gentle boy who always wore a soft smile.
Once upon a time, Sam Winchester was on his way to become a lawyer and marry the girl he loved.
Before everything went downhill and his family got thrown into the lion’s den.
Sam Winchester never wanted to become the beast. But as so often in life – you must choose a path and follow it.
“Alpha,” pouncing on Sam you look him all over. You know that your mate can handle any situation, but the worried omega inside of you needs to make sure your alpha, your mate is unharmed. “I was so worried about you.”
“How are you and my pup?” all Sam could think about on his way back to the mansion was you and his child. “Are you hurt? Do you need anything?”
“You, Sam,” sniffing you hide your face in his wide chest. “I’ve missed you, alpha. That woman, she shouldn’t have arrested you. Law is on our side. I called our lawyer,” Sam chuckles at your words, loving your possessive side.
“She will not make the same mistake, twice. Not with Jody keeping her under her thumb,” Sam pecks your lips, before he kneels to press his ear to your baby bump. “I told her to keep me away from my heavily pregnant mate is a mistake I will not forgive that easily.”
“I bet you scared that beta to hell and back,” humming Sam kisses your belly, wondering if his son can feel he’s back. “He knows you are back, alpha. The moment you touched me Sammy jr. calmed. Your son was kicking me like I’m a freaking football.”
“Sammy jr.?” Sam looks up at you, tears in his eyes. There is a softness in his hazel orbs only you can see. “You want to give him my name?”
“Of course, Sam. He’s our firstborn. I wouldn’t want to name my son Brad or Martin. Boring,” gently running your fingers through Sam’s hair you smile as the tall mobster and tough alpha looks up at you in awe. “You’re the best man I ever met.”
“I’m not, but this means the world to me, Y/N,” you nod, holding back the tears at Sam’s words. “I want to be a better man for you, though. Outside these walls, I need to be the beast, but inside, I’m yours.”
“Sam, I’m proud you want to be mine,” sniffing you caress his face. Sam closes his eyes, enjoys the gentle gesture. “I love you, alpha. I don’t care what people think about you, Sam. I know you are the man loving me and my son.”
“So,” glancing at Dean you rub your swollen belly. “Will you tell me what happened back then? I need to know what Lucifer did to my Sam. I know he doesn’t want to talk about it. He always leaves the room if I bring that man up.”
“Y/N, I love you like a baby sister, but I can’t break my brother’s trust in me, sweetheart,” Dean gives you a sad smile, not wanting to reveal too much. “All I can tell you is that the impact Lucifer had on Sam’s life was, remarkable. Sam was a softer man, a fine soul before Lucifer broke him down to nothing. Sam had to rebuild himself and ended up becoming ‘the beast’.”
“I’m sorry,” voice trembling you look up at Dean. You can see the pain in your brother-in-law’s eyes, so you wrap your arms around him to hug him. “I shouldn’t have asked, Dean. I will never ask again, promised.”
“I can’t tell you more, Y/N. If Sam is ready, he’ll tell you about it,” murmuring the words Dean pecks your hair. “He trusts only me and you, sweetheart. Just be there for my baby brother. He’s a soft man deep inside, hidden underneath power and strength. He needs this, you and his pup.”
“I’ll try anything to be the woman he needs, Dean. I love Sam,” sniffing you look up at Dean, giving him a devilish smile. “Not only his dick.”
“I didn’t need to know,” Dean scrunches his nose in disgust, but he cracks a smile for you. “I know you are a dirty girl for my brother. Now hurry back or he’ll rip me a new one for keeping you away from your alpha.”
“What do you think?” looking at the wolf Sam painted on the nursery’s wall you smile. It’s a tall, grey wolf but with soft fur and gentle eyes. “I want Sammy jr. to know someone is watching over him.”
“Our alpha,” humming Sam points at the smaller wolf next to him. “Is that me?” giggling you look at the female wolf. “She looks like me.”
“I will paint our ‘little wolf’ later, baby,” watching Sam cleans his hands on his white t-shirt you smirk. His hair a mess, paint all over his arms and his sweatpants hanging low on his hips he looks like an artist, not a dangerous mobster. “What do you think, omega?”
“It’s beautiful. I like you gave the wolf soft eyes,” standing on tiptoes you peck Sam’s lips. “You’re talented, Sam.”
“Nah,” he looks shyly at the wolf again, shrugging as you exclaim you love the wolves. “I just drew what came to my mind. Later I asked Dean to get me the paint and gave my wolves more personality.”
“My mate has it all. The looks. Strength. Talent. A soft heart for me and,” you lean closer, looking seductively up at Sam, “a huge dick.”
“Omega,” purring Sam drops the paintbrush to grasp for your waist. “You’re such a naughty girl. I bet,” pecking your neck Sam smirks when you start to squirm in his hold, “when I look at your panties, they are soaked for me.”
“Always…”
“Sam, uh-erm, fuck,” you wiggle underneath Sam, looking down your body. “I’m kinda leaking. I think my water broke.”
“You mean I made you squirt,” still a bit dizzy from his orgasm Sam wiggle his hips. “That’s a lot of – oh fuck me,” he carefully slides out of you, looking at the bed. “Your water broke! I…that’s my fault.”
“Relax, alpha. You know, sex can help,” you grin, giving your alpha a wink. “Now help me clean up. Get my bag and call your brother and Cassie. We need to go to the hospital, alpha. Your son wants to finally meet his father.”
“Give me a minute,” butt-naked Sam runs out of the room to yell for his brother. “DEAN! CASSIE! Y/N is going to give birth. Get the car! Tell our men to be ready in fifteen.”
“JESUS, Sammy. Don’t yell!” Dean chuckles. “We are ready if you are,” looking anywhere but at his brother, Dean points toward Sam’s crotch. “Pants, Sammy. Pants are essential tonight.”
“Got it,” Sam runs back toward your bedroom to clean you up. “Pants. Cleaning you up. Bag. Bringing you to the car. Not freaking out. Men to protect you. No gun at a hospital,” you watch Sam run around the room to get everything you’ll need before he cleans you carefully up.
“Breathe, baby. I know this is exciting, but I need my alpha tonight, Sam,” your alpha’s posture changes, and his fully concentrated at your words. “There he is…”
“Jimmy, Benny, door,” Dean orders. “Cole, Ketch, hospital entrance. Bobby, Martin, hallway. Rufus, you and the others will stay outside the hospital and check anyone who wants to enter.”
“Got it,” nodding the men look at Sam who waits for the doctor to bring you away. He won’t leave your side, squeezes your hand gently to assure you he’s there. “We will not let anything happen to Y/N or her son,” Bobby looks at you, feeling a pang in his heart.
“Not another Jess,” Dean whispers. “Sam can’t lose Y/N too. He will not survive losing his true mate. Do your job and more. Tonight, we need to prove we still rule this town.”
Cassie watches her mate. He pats his gun, nodding at Jimmy who assures him he'll to not let anything happen to you. “They will do their best, Dean. No one will dare to come here. I called Jody. She’ll come around too.”
“Good, let’s go with Sam and Y/N. I’ll stay with him as long as the doctor doesn’t kick me out,” grumbling Dean looks around the floor. “I hate it here.”
“I know,” placing her hand onto Dean’s arm Cassie gives her mate a cracked smile. “Only bad memories. Tonight, we can make a new memory, a good one, alpha.”
“My son,” Sam’s fingers tremble when the nurse places your son into his arms. He looks at Samuel jr. in awe, sniffing as the baby looks small and vulnerable in his arms. “Look at the wonder we created, Y/N.”
“He’s beautiful, Sam,” smiling you watch Sam place your baby into your arms. He stays by your side, just like he did while you gave birth. “Tiny fingers, tiny toes, and a tiny nose,” you coo your baby, wondering if Sam felt the same love the moment your son was in his arms.
“I love him already, omega. You made me the greatest gift,” pecking your lips Sam smiles. “I will get Dean and Cassie. Give me five minutes. Jimmy, Benny, and Bobby are outside. If you need anything, tell them so.”
“You gave me the greatest gift too, Sam. He’s so –“ choking on your words you look at your baby, whimpering as he opens his eyes. “Oh my god, he looked at me, Sam. Look.”
“Fuck don’t make me cry before I face my brother,” Sam sniffs, whipping a few rogue tears away. “Give me a minute.”
Sam silently leaves the room, inhaling deeply. “I’ll get Dean and Cassie. Do not let anyone pass. The doctor and the nurse, you remember their faces – right?”
“No one will enter the room but you and Dean,” Benny looks at Sam, giving him an assuring nod. “Over my dead body, boss.”
“How does he look? I hope like Y/N cause your face is an accident,” Dean snickers on his way to your room. “Did he open his eyes yet?”
“Samuel jr. is beautiful. He opened his eyes and has ten toes and fingers,” Sam groans when Dean makes a dirty joke about the ‘eleventh toe’. “Dean, can you just not?” Cassie laughs when Sam gives his brother a bitch face.
She never saw Sam relaxed, funny even. He has a soft smile on his lips and there is something in his eyes she never saw before. Cassie wants to congratulate Sam again but then his smile turns into a frown.
“Dean, Cassie, go inside and have a look at my son. I’ll get something for Y/N,” Sam’s demeanor changes and Dean immediately feels a cold shiver run down his spine.
“What’s wrong Sammy?”
“Nothing, Dean. Go inside and be a good Uncle Dean to my son,” Sam tries to fake a smile, but it doesn’t reach his eyes. “Give me ten minutes. I don’t need more.”
“Dean?” Cassie doesn’t like Sam storms off; hands balled into fists. “What’s wrong? A moment ago, he looked happy, relaxed even.”
“Go inside and check on Y/N, baby. I got a bad feeling,” Dean whispers something into his mate’s ear, making her gasps. “Tell Benny ‘purgatory’. He doesn’t need to hear anything else. I had a plan B; I always have one.” Dean hurries to catch up with his brother, cursing under his breath.
“What do you want here?” one large palm wrapped around Amelia’s throat Sam grits his teeth. The deadly alpha is back, and Dean flinches when Sam slams Amelia’s head into the wall. “Answer my question, bitch.”
“I wanted to congratulate you and your mate,” the lie easily rolls off Amelia’s tongue. She smiles, knowing her plan to separate you and Sam went well. “I guess, right now my partner is about to kill your mate.”
“You think so?” Dean huffs, checking on his phone. “Luckily, I always got a plan B, bitch. Right now, my sister-in-law and her son rest in another room. I told Benny to bring her away. Your accomplice, the false nurse is dead. Guess a broken neck won’t hurt as much as the things Sam will do to you,” holding the phone into Amelia’s face Dean grins.
“Dean, good job,” Sam nods at his brother. “I knew I can always count on you, brother. I need to hurry back to my mate’s side but,” Sam snarls, eyes trained on Amelia’s shaking form. He adds more pressure to her throat, smirking when the she starts to whimper, “this isn’t over for you, Amelia. You wanted to get my attention, now you got it – I hope you’ll enjoy the ride…”
“Look how tiny he looks in your arms, Sam,” smiling you stroke your son’s head. He sleeps peacefully in his father’s arms, unbeknownst that Amelia tried to kill him and his mother. “I’ve missed you. Why did you take so long to come back?”
“I had to talk to the doctor and make sure you’ll get the new room,” nodding you peck Sam’s forehead. “You can go home with me today. No need to stay at the hospital any longer, omega.”
“I want to sleep in my bed and show Sammy jr. the wolves you painted. He will love his nursery.” D
“I bet he will, sweetheart. How about Cassie helps you pack your things, and I will help Sam with the papers and all? Don’t worry, our men are outside the room to protect you,” Dean watches Sam with his family, a smile on his lips.
“Okay,” you know something must’ve happened. Sam needed half an hour to come back, tense, and angry. “I will wait here, Sam.”
“I’ll hurry, baby girl, promised. No more being late.”
“Another one bites the dust?” Donna huffs. “Sam Winchester’s family crest again. Do you want to fill me in on why we are out here alone, without a coroner and deputies helping us?”
“That’s Amelia Richardson, her partner, a woman named Meg Masters was found dead two days ago. She got killed off fast, without pain but that one,” pointing toward Amelia’s broken body Jody huffs, “she went through hell and back. Do you want to know why?”
“She pissed Sam Winchester off too?” Jody would laugh at Donna’s attitude but knowing the truth forces a frown on her face.
“No. That woman conspired with Masters. She wanted to kill Sam Winchester’s mate and his newborn son. Sam was faster,” looking at Amelia again Donna swallows thickly. “Whatever you want to do, I’ll support you, Donna. Law will not protect Sam this time.”
“He protected his mate and pup. What that woman tried to do was beyond cruel, Jody. I don’t like Sam Winchester’s attitude nor his reputation but, I would’ve done the same. Let’s say that bitch had it coming,” watching Donna walk-off Jody nods silently.
“Sam will appreciate what you did tonight,” Jody tries to get Donna on her side, offering her hand. Donna hesitates before she stuffs her hands into the pockets of her jeans, not meeting Jody’s eyes.
“I will not look away, Jody. I’m not a coward like most of the people in town,” Donna jerks her head toward Amelia’s corpse. “This is the only favor I’ll ever grant. Now Sam Winchester and I are even.”
“Perfect,” Sam whispers to himself. He watches you sleep on your bed, holding your son in your arms.
“They are,” Dean says.
“This is all I ever wanted, Dean,” pointing toward you, a smile on his face Sam glances at his brother. “Not my empire, reputation, or money matter. My son is my only legacy…”

Playing With Fire - Girls Night Out
A/N: So this is my first crack at Chicago fire fanfiction, so don't judge too hard, alright? This will unfold from the beginning of season three, so if you haven't watched it yet, but plan to; SPOILER ALERT! I tried to follow along with the storyline of the show, but some things have been changed. Shout out to my superawesome beta @thorne93, you rock!
Fandom: Chicago Fire
Pairing: Kelly Severide x Beth (OFC)
Warnings: Language probably. Drinking
Wordcount: 2245
Beth stood in front of her TV, coffee in hand as she watched the morning news in disbelief. A helicopter had crashed and landed on top of a building, the reporter on scene kept talking as the camera panned out and captured the unbelievable scene that unfolded.
“Witnesses say that there are still people trapped inside the helicopter, but luckily the Chicago fire department is on the scene and working tirelessly to get everyone out safe.”
She couldn't really make out any faces or the names on the uniforms, but the big white ‘81’ on one of the trucks was easy enough to see, and her heart sank in her chest. Everyone she knew and loved in Chicago was on that scene.
With eyes glued to the TV she paced back and forth in her apartment, her heart beating a million miles an hour. “They have to be alright,” she said to herself, feeling more helpless than she had ever done before.
She didn't really register what she was doing when she jumped in her car and headed for the fire house. There wasn't really anything she could do for any of them right now, but she was sure as hell gonna make sure they returned to a hot meal. The plan was to make some lasagnas that they could easily heat up and then get out of there before they returned, but it didn't really work out like that.
One by one they poured into the kitchen, their somber faces revealing the impact of the day they had had.
“Beth? What are you doing here?” Gabby asked, surprised and happy to see her friend.
“I saw you all on the news and figured you’d be hungry when you got back,” she explained.
“You weren't wrong, kid,” Herrmann said with appreciation in his voice.
“You’re the best,” Otis chimed in.
“The best,” Cruz repeated, backing up his best friend.
Beth gave Gabby a tight hug. “I'm glad you’re okay,” she said. Over Gabby’s shoulder, she locked eyes with Kelly and gave him a small smile, but he just averted his eyes and walked away. “What's his deal?”
“Who?” Gabby wondered, turning around just in time to see Kelly disappear down the hall. “Oh. Brittany showed up to the scene today, all hysterical and shit because he wasn't answering her calls and texts,” she explained.
“Wow. That's… a lot.”
“Yeah,” Gabby agreed.
“Alright,” Beth said a little louder. “I'm gonna get out of your hair,” she announced as she started backing out of the room.
“You’re not gonna eat with us?” Mills asked.
“Nah. I have a bar to open. Since my bosses are all busy saving the day and shit,” she said with a chuckle.
Goodbyes were mumbled through mouthfuls of food as Beth walked away. She had no intentions of looking for Kelly, but she saw him sitting in his office and her feet just walked themselves over there and she knocked on the open door. “Hey,” she said softly.
“This really isn't a good time,” he said in an annoyed tone. It wasn't Beth he was angry at, he knew that, but he couldn't help the annoyance in his voice.
“Just wanted to say I'm glad you’re okay. I saw the news earlier and I just… I'm glad you made it back in one piece,” she offered.
Kelly sighed. “Thanks, Beth,” he said with half a smile.
“I'll leave you to it.”
He followed her with her eyes as she walked away, but his mind was on his wife and the inevitable fight that would come later. Beth would never have showed up at a scene like that.
***
“Haagen Dazs and beer.” Those were the first words out of Gabby’s mouth when Beth opened the door. “I need a girls night.”
“You know I'm not gonna say no to that,” Beth said, taking the tub of ice cream from Gabby and letting her inside her apartment.
Things had been kind of rough between Gabby and Matt since she had started working on truck 81 and Matt became her Lieutenant. It was a difficult situation for the both of them and definitely something that would take some time to get used to and to find their new pace.
They both fell onto Beth's couch with deep sighs. “You first,” Beth ordered.
“It's this whole candidate/lieutenant thing,” she said twisting open a beer. “It's not working at home and it's not working at work.”
“I'm sorry,” Beth offered. “You'll find a way to make it work. I'm sure of it,” she tried to assure her friend. Gabby and Matt were strong, solid, so there was no doubt in her mind that they would make it through, one way or the other.
“Thanks. Got any advice?” Gabby asked through a mouthful of ice cream.
“Dude. I literally drove the guy I like all the way to Vegas where he married a stripper,” she noted with a humorless laugh. “Not sure I'm the best to give out relationship advice.”
“Graphic designer,” Gabby corrected, pointing her spoon at Beth.
“Allegedly,” Beth countered, making them both chuckle. “You know what?” She suddenly said.
“What?”
Beth got to her feet, Gabby watching her with furrowed brows. “It's Friday night. We shouldn't be in here eating and drinking our feelings. We should be out in some club, getting our dance on. We’re young and half of us are single… let's go paint the town.”
Gabby mulled it over for a quick second and then jumped on the bandwagon. “You go get dressed right now, and then we’ll stop by my place on our way downtown.”
Beth hesitated for a second. “I'll just wait in the car while you get ready,” she said, not wanting to run into a certain roommate.
“Kelly isn't home. He and Brittany had a date night planned. You’re safe.”
Ten minutes later, Beth reappeared from the bathroom, a short black dress hugging her body, completed with teal accessories to give it a pop of color. “Yay or nay?” she asked
“Definitely yay,” Gabby replied. “Now let's hustle.”
**
Beth stood in Gabby’s kitchen with Matt and waited for her friend to get ready. The longer she stayed there, the greater the chance she'd run into Kelly, and that was the last thing she needed right now.
“Want a beer?” Matt asked, but Beth shook her head. “You can relax, they’re not here,” he assured.
“I don't know what you’re talking about,” Beth lied, making Matt chuckle.
He was just about to call her out on it when they heard the front door and Beth went stiff.
“Casey, have you seen my wallet?” Kelly called out.
Beth was hidden from his view and she would really like to keep it that way, but then a sly grin appeared on Matt’s face and Beth noticed the little black walled on the kitchen counter. She looked up at Matt with big, pleading eyes, shaking her head vigorously.
“Yeah, it's in here,” Matt called out, still smiling.
“Thanks man,” Kelly said, not noticing Beth at first. “Got all the way across town before I noti…” his words trailed off there as his eyes finally found Beth. She looked amazing, so much so that he had a hard time getting words out. “You look… wow.”
“Thank’s,” she said shyly. Luckily, Gabby was just done getting ready and walked in to interrupt the awkward scene that was unfolding. “I'll wait for you in the car,” Beth said to her friend before she turned on her heel and started walking away, praying to some higher power that she wouldn't trip on her high heels and fall on her ass.
“Don't wait up, babe,” Gabby said before kissing Matt on the cheek. “And you might want to wipe that drool from your chin before you get back to your wife,” she said with a coy smile to Kelly.
***
Couple of hours at a loud club was more than either Beth or Gabby could manage before they hopped in a cab and headed for Molly’s. It was great to be out and about and Beth was definitely taking advantage of her evening off, pouring ‘em down like it was her last hurrah. Gabby held back a little, but she didn't want to be a buzz kill, so she just kept an eye on her friend. It wasn't often that Beth got out and it was great to see her in such a good mood for once.
Molly’s was packed, but Gabby found them a couple of seats while Beth went to get drinks.
“One beer and one Mojhito, please,” she requested from Otis with a huge smile, leaning on the bar counter. “Oh, and don't make it too sweet,” she added.
“Coming right up,” Otis said and got to work.
“You look really nice today,” Kelly complimented from her right.
Honestly, she hadn't even noticed him sitting there. “Thank you. Girls night,” she explained.
“I can see that,” he noted with a smile. She was clearly inebriated, but it was nice to see her relax and enjoy herself. “Don't think I’ve ever seen you all dolled up,” he noted.
“Well, that's because you never took me out,” she countered, no accusation in her voice. “Thank you, barkeep,” she chirped as Otis returned with her order. “Now if you gentlemen will excuse me.”
And with that, she went to search for Gabby, who she found at a table with a bunch of people from CPD.
It was a fun night, lots of laughter, good conversation, and alcohol. The crowd gradually thinned out and about half an hour before closing, Gabby too called it quits, leaving Beth and Halstead behind as the last two of their group. Herrmann and Otis were getting ready for closing while Kelly sat at the bar and nursed his drink still.
“This has been a really fun evening,” Jay noted, taking a swing from his beer.
“I agree. Nice to be on the other side of the bar for a change,” Beth said, stirring her drink with a straw. Now that things were quieting down around her, some of the sadness she had been carrying around returned. “Think I'm ready to call it, though,” she added as an afterthought.
“Alright,” Jay dragged. “Let me call you a cab,” he offered.
“I literally live 3 houses down from here. But thanks for the offer.”
“Okay. Can I walk you home then?” he pushed.
It was pretty obvious what he was getting at, and Beth wasn't completely opposed to the idea, just the circumstances. “Alright. Just know that I have a pretty strict rule. No hookups after three drinks, and I’m definitely more than three drinks in this evening.” She really hoped she didn't come across as conceited, but she was pretty sure that this was where things were heading.
“Why? I can assure you that I'll be just as devilishly handsome in the morning,” he joked making her laugh. “My intentions are honorable, I promise. Just want to make sure you get home in one piece.” he assured.
“Meet me outside? I'm just gonna say goodnight.”
Jay headed outside and Beth made her way over to the bar, as far from where Kelly was sitting as was possible. “Thanks again for covering my shift tonight, Otis. I owe you one.”
“Don't mention it,” he said, barely looking up from the paperwork he was getting ready before closing.
“Alright,” she said a little louder. “Night fellas.”
“Hey,” Kelly called out, jumping off his chair to catch up to her before she left. He had spent the last hour and a half watching her and Halstead get all cozy and he didn't like it one bit. “Let me walk you home?” he asked in a kind voice, not knowing that there was already someone waiting for her outside.
“Uhm…. no thanks,” she said simply.
“Come on. Just want to make sure you get back safe,” he told her.
She looked into those beautiful blue eyes of his and for some reason she felt herself get angry. “No, Kelly. You promised me some space, remember?”
“You didn't seem so concerned about your space when you came looking for me at the station the other day,” he retorted.
“I wasn't there for you. I was there to make sure my friends were all safe and in one piece,” she defended.
Before Kelly could say anything else, Jay stuck his head through the door. “You coming?” he asked and Beth just gave him a reassuring nod and then he was out the door again.
“Unbelievable,” Kelly snorted. “Halstead?”
“Go home to your wife, Lieutenant,” she spat before she turned on her heel and made her way out of there.
“You okay?” Jay asked as they started their little walk back to her apartment, seeing the change in her mood.
“Yeah, I'm fine,” she assured, looking up at him. “I have a question for you, Detective.”
“Hit me.”
“Those intentions of yours,” she started, referring to the conversation they had a few minutes ago. “Still honorable?”
“As honorable as you want them to be.”
Beth looked up at him with a coy smile as she slipped her hand into his, lacing their fingers together. That way she was telling him without words what she was thinking. It was probably a bitch move on her part, using him like that, but right then she didn't care. She just wanted to forget.

It was about 6 months after Liza killed her brother and told Jacob that she couldn't stay with him, when he met Dinah. Dinah was a friend of Hannah's from out of town and the moment she introduced them, Jacob was hooked. It took him 3 months after meeting Dinah to ask her out. He knew that he should've asked her out sooner but after the way things went with Liza, and the way she abandoned him after he confessed that he loved her, he was apprehensive to let anyone else in. It was only when his mother sat him down, after noticing how he looked at her, and told him that he should give it a shot with her that he relented and asked her. He could still remember the words that his mother told him that day to convince him to move on with his life.
"Jacob I need to talk to you", June spoke up from behind her son. He jumped a little, Mainly because he didn't even hear her coming as well as her calling him by his full name which she only used when she was being serious, and then nodded at his mother and let her lead him to the couch. Jacob stayed silent after they sat down and waited for his mother to speak. "Jacob you are my baby boy and you know that i will always love you, but you can't keep letting the past affect how you live the rest of your life. I know that you loved that girl but it's obvious that she didn't really love you." Jacob went to get up, but his mother grabbed his arm and pulled him back down before saying "Running from what happened isn't gonna help either. You need to let what happened with Liza go and give yourself an actual chance at love and living your life." Jacob looked up at her with tears in his eyes and said "I don't know how to let go of this pain. I'm scared Mom." June just gave him a soft smile and said "Life is all about taking chances Sweetie. It's what you do with those chances that matters, no matter what the outcome will be. Now go ask that friend of Hannah's out or i'll invite her over here and tell her embarrassing stories about you." Jacob was about to ask how his mother knew about his feelings for Dinah, when she beat him to it. "You're not as subtle as you think you are", she said with a wink before getting up to resume her housekeeping.
Jacob was so nervous when he saw Dinah sitting at a table in the local coffee shop. He may or may not have asked Hannah about where Dinah was at the moment, which earned him an eye roll and a mumbled "about time", before she gave him her location. Standing here now, he had no idea what he was even gonna say to her. After taking a deep breath, Jacob got up the courage to go inside. Dinah looked up at him when he neared her table and waited for him to speak. "Hi Dinah", he said nervously. "Hi Jacob", she said softly. Jacob shifted nervously, which Dinah noticed, and asked "May I sit." "Of course", she answered. As he was sitting down, he noticed the folder full of photographs in front of her. "Did you take those yourself?", he asked. Dinah looked down and smiled before looking back up at him. "Yeah. I'm trying to find the best ones to put on my website", she said excitedly. Jacob smiled as he saw her face light up while talking about her pictures. "You have a website?", he asked feeling stupid. She gave him a charming smile and nodded her head excitedly. "Yeah. I'm trying to build a portfolio so I get hired to do events like weddings and birthdays", she said. He nodded and said "That sounds cool." There was an awkward pause in the conversation when Dinah decided to ask a question of her own about his career. "I hear that you're trying to get back into boxing?', she asked, with a bit of uncertainty. She was scared that she was overstepping based on everything that she was told by Hannah and June Mills. He just gave her a quick nod. He saw her start to play with her fingers nervously, and decided to just come out and ask her what he came here to ask. He cleared his throat and asked nervously "So, Do you wanna go and get dinner sometime?" She looked up at him so fast that he thought she might've hurt her neck, and nodded rapidly. She was embarrassed when she saw him trying not to laugh, and took a deep breath before giving a more calm answer. "I'd like that", she said softly. Jacob gave her a shy, but excited, smile.
Now
Jacob looked over at the girl lying in bed next to him and felt thankful that he took his mother's advice. After they went on about 9 dates and he explained to her the whole Liza thing, and how it caused him to be apprehensive about dating, they decided to move in to his parents' house together. They thought that it was best that she moved in with him because she was living in Hannah's guest room after moving to be closer to her. Even though Liza hurt him the way that she did, he couldn't be happier that things worked out the way that they did. He wouldn't trade what he has with Dinah for the world.

Question
i want to write for Charlie's Deadfall character, but he has the same name as my brother. This makes me extremely uncomfortable, so I was wondering if I could make his full name Jacob (with Jay as his nickname) but the OFC never calls him by his nickname. Also, would it be ok if she called him 'corn on the cob' as a funny nickname? It would come from his name 'jaCOB' and only she would be allowed to call him that? What do you think?

MASTERLIST
The world was spinning when Beth woke up the next morning, so she decided it wasn't even worth it to open her eyes. That's until she remembered how the night had ended, and her eyes flew open.
“Oh thank god,” she muttered when she learned she was alone in her bed. For a while she just lay there in silence, listening for any sounds in her apartment, when she was certain that she was alone she decided to get up. Groaning, she rolled out of bed and threw a blanket around her shoulders before she padded to the kitchen in need of water, Advil, and bacon.
She furrowed her brows at the little note on her table, her tired and puffy eyes having a hard time concentrating on the words.
Thanks for a fun night! Sorry to sneak out before dawn, but duty calls. I realized that I didn't get your number, so I'm gonna leave you with mine just in case you want a re-run. No pressure.
- Jay
Beth groaned as she balled up the paper. “Nice jobb, dumbass,” she scolded herself.
Thanks to the copious amount of alcohol she had consumed last night, her nerves were fried, so when there was a knock on the door, she jumped. For a second she just stared at the door, very annoyed with the person on the other side of it.
“Good morning, player,” Gabby greeted in a chipper tone, smiling from ear to ear. “You look like shit,” she added as she handed Beth a cup of coffee she had brought for her.
“I look better than I feel then,” Beth mumbled as she took the styrofoam cup from her friend. She didn't even invite her in, just turned around and started making her way back to the kitchen.
“You alone?” Gabby asked, tentatively looking around the small apartment.
“Why?” Beth asked, snapping her head around so fast she thought she might throw up. Damn hangover.
“You know Jay works with my brother right?” she deadpanned. “Plus, Otis and Hermann were still at the bar when you two left. So was Kelly - my roommate,” she summarized.
“Gossip spreads faster through a firehouse than it does through my family. I'm impressed,” Beth said with annoyance in her voice.
“Tell me about it,” Gabby agreed. “Look… I had Matt drive me downtown to get your car-” she handed Beth the keys - “He's outside and we really have to get to work. I just wanted to get you your keys and check in.”
“Thanks,” Beth said softly. “I'm good. A little embarrassed, and a lot hungover, but I'll live.”
“Nothing to be embarrassed about,” Gabby assured. “You are both consenting adults, nothing wrong with having a little fun.”
“I know. Just thinking that getting over someone by getting under someone else might not be the best plan of action,” Beth said with a dry chuckle.
“Fair point,” Gabby agreed. “Look, can we catch up later?” She was clearly stressed and in a rush to get to work, so the two said their goodbyes and then she was out the door.
Beth threw back some Advil, grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge and then went straight back to bed, hoping she would be able to sleep away the hangover before she had to be at work that afternoon. At least she knew that everyone at 51 would be working that night so she wouldn't have to run into any of them. And by any of them, she meant one in particular.
***
A couple of days went by without Beth really socializing with anyone. She hid in her apartment as much as she could, still sort of embarrassed by the events of the other night.
That night there was quite the crowd at Molly’s, so Beth was more than a little relieved when Gabby showed up to help out. It was crazy busy, but it didn't take long before Beth realized that something was up with her friend. Behind Gabby’s beautiful smile, there was a hint of sadness and at the first opportunity, Beth dragged her friend to the end of the bar so they could talk privately.
The past two days had been crazy. Mills and Brett, the two EMTs, had been kidnapped, but ultimately found in one piece. Chief Boden and his wife, Donna, had their baby, but little Baby Boden had some complications and was still being treated at the hospital. Kelly had broken things off with his wife and sent her back to Florida. It was a lot of information to get all at once, but they didn't have time to go into too much detail.
“And today, this gorgeous blonde comes trotting into the station on ten inch heels, looking for Matt. I ask her what it was about and then she hands me his phone and announces that he had left it at her place when he left that morning,” Gabby explained, finishing up the tale of crazy that had been going on.
“What?!” Beth exclaimed. “He cheated on you?”
“No. Turns out it was Severide’s bimbo and Matt had just crashed on the couch,” she said. “I'm just.. I think I'm just starting to realize that we’re not gonna make it through this,” she concluded with a heavy sigh.
“What are you going to do?” Beth asked, trying not to put too much thought into the whole Kelly part of the story.
Gabby just shrugged, and before she could say anything else, Jay walked up and interrupted them. “I'm gonna go- uhm - be somewhere else,” Gabby said awkwardly before hurrying away.
Beth had dreaded this moment since the other night. She wasn't really a one night stand kind of girl, so this situation was a little unfamiliar to her. “Hey,” she said a little awkwardly. Jay’s smile was very charming as he greeted her back. “Gabby just filled me in on what's been going on. Seems like you’ve had a few busy days,” she noted.
The intelligence squad that Jay worked for had been the ones that helped find Brett and Mills. “Yeah,” he nodded. “But we got them back in one piece, and the bad guys are behind bars, which is all that matters.”
“Good job, Detective,” she complimented. “Can I get you a drink?”
“I'm actually on call,” he said simply. “I just came by to say hey. Maybe see if you have any plans tomorrow?”
Fuck. “Look-” Beth started, not really knowing what to say. “I had a really great time the other night-”
Jay cut her off. “But you’re not really looking for anything right now,” he finished without any accusation in his voice, still with that charming smile on his face.
“It's just that I'm trying to get over someone and I don't think using you as a rebound is fair on either one of us,” she tried to explain. Jay was smart, kind, and funny, and under different circumstances she would be all over this. However, right now wasn't the time for them.
“Lieutenant Severide?” he asked. Beth didn't answer him, but he definitely knew. “Alright then. We still good?”
“I hope so,” Beth said.
He leaned down and placed a chaste kiss to her cheek before saying goodbye and heading back to work.
***
The evening went by in a hurry and before they knew it, Gabby was shooing the last of the customers out the door, locking it behind them while Beth grabbed them each a beer so they could finish the talk they started on earlier.
“I have to get out of Matt's house,” she suddenly said. “Two months ago, if that girl had shown up at the firehouse like she did today, my first thought would have been that there's a reasonable explanation here. Now, though, my first instinct was that he had cheated on me and I - I don't know. I'm just thinking that it's already over between us.”
Beth didn't really know what to say, but she had seen how they had struggled for the past couple of months. “If you need a place to crash, my door is always open. And my couch is surprisingly comfortable,” she offered.
“Thank you,” Gabby said with a half hearted smile. “Tonight?”
“Absolutely,” Beth said, pulling her friend into a hug. “And for the record, I think that you and Matt will figure this all out. Maybe not right away, but I do believe in the two of you.”
“You’re a good friend, Beth.”
Both of them were more than ready to call it a night and go back to Beth’s for some much needed rest, but it turned out that the evening wasn't quite over for Beth yet.
When they stepped out of Molly’s the first thing they saw was Kelly, leaning against his blue Mustang, waiting for her.
“You have a minute?” he asked, looking at Beth as he pushed himself off of the car and taking a few steps closer to them.
Beth fished her keys out of her pocket and handed them to Gabby. “I'll be right there,” she assured.
“You sure?” Gabby questioned, looking between Beth and Kelly, but when Beth nodded her head, she turned on her heel and walked away.
“What's that about?” Kelly asked, shoving his hands into the pockets of his leather jacket.
“Not my place to say,” she stated simply. “Why are you here?” It was a chilly night and Beth tugged her jacket tighter around her body to shield her from the cold wind.
“I just wanted to apologize for the other night. It wasn't my place to say anything.”
“Apology accepted. That all?” she asked coldly.
Kelly didn't say anything, his mind busy searching for words he couldn't find.
“Alright then. Good talk,” she said sarcastically as she took a few steps backwards before starting to turn away.
“No. Wait,” he said, making her stop in her tracs. “You said that you hoped we could find a way to be friends down the line… Guess I just needed to know that I didn't fuck that up.”
“You didn't,” she assured. “But we’re not there yet. At least I'm not.”
“Anything I can do to help you get there?” he wondered, taking a few steps closer to her. He desperately missed her. Her smile. Her laugh. Her touch. He knew that he had ruined any chance of a relationship between them, but he couldn't stand the thought of losing her completely.
“Space and time, just like I asked for. I told you that as long as you’re seeking answers at the bottom of a bottle-”
“I promise you that I'm done with that,” he vowed, cutting her off.
“So you weren't out with Matt - two days after your wife left- getting drunk and crawling into someone else's bed?” She wasn't angry at him, but the accusation and jealousy in her voice was clear as day.
“That's different,” he defended.
“I shouldn't have brought that up,” she said quietly. It had nothing to do with them really, and it wasn't like she hadn't done the same thing with Jay.
“That's okay,” he assured.
“Look,” she said with a deep sigh. “Honestly, I'm still trying to wrap my head around everything that happened between us, and what happened after.”
“What are you saying?”
“That I care about you,” she admitted, looking up into his eyes. “Probably more than I should. And I have no idea where to go from here.”
Hope rose in him at her words, a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. “Beth, I'm not the kind of guy that shows up in the middle of the night to make amends. I care about you too, a lot.” It was so great to finally get that off his chest, to finally admit to her how he felt.
“Yeah. You showed me just how much when you went to Vegas and married the first girl you met,” she accused.
Now he was confused again. “I made a mistake, Beth,” he pleaded.
“I can't do this,” she said, slowly taking a few steps backwards. “I hope we can be friends one day, Kelly. I really do. But I can't do this dance with you right now.” She shook her head as she turned around and started on the short walk home, not stopping or looking back as he called out her name.
