A vast majority of trees in Jasper National Park are turning brown, making for beautiful pictures, but it’s not due to autumn or fall. In reality they are all dead trees infested by the alpine beetle that lives off of the tree. It’s quite dire situation in that they predict in next 10 years ALL the alpine trees in Jasper will have died. It will change the landscape of Jasper dramatically. It will take decades and some really cold weather (to kill the colonies of beetle) for the forest to recover to its natural state! Natures way of hitting the reset button on the forests that apparently grew too dense to allow for diversity of wildlife to prosper. (Because humans in an effort to preserve the forest flora in early 20th century started suppressing the natural forest fires that would burn off excess vegetation on the forest floor naturally.
