There isn’t much new Hallmark news going on right now, so if anybody is interested the Hallmark Channel will be premiering some Pixl TV movies. In the past Hallmark has aired such Pixl movies as Romantically Speaking, Adventures in Love & Babysitting (Bound & Babysitting), and a cushy Saturday night premiere for Bad Date Chronicles.

Starstruck Judge Jason Manford Issues Cheeky Response To Stars In Their Eyes Comparisons
Tumblr media
Jason Manford has jokingly hit back at those comparing his new show Starstruck to Stars In Their Eyes.
The comedian and theatre star is one of the judges on the new ITV talent show, which debuted on Saturday night.
It sees three members of the public transform into their musical idols and compete against each other for a place in the grand final and the chance to win £50,000.
As the show aired, Jason knew that people would be making comparisons to the classic Stars In Their Eyes series, which also saw contestants transform into singing stars.
Tumblr media
He tweeted: “Enjoy #Starstruck. It’s a great show. If you think we sat the whole series and not one of mentioned the similarity to #StarsInTheirEyes, you’re thick mate!
“Of course it is, so feel free to not tell me but do try to guess who the contestants are gonna be & best soundalike.”

— Jason Manford (@JasonManford) February 12, 2022
Stars In Their Eyes aired from 1990 to 2006, and was hosted by the likes of Matthew Kelly and Cat Deeley.
It had a comedic reboot in 2015 with Harry Hill fronting the new version, but it was poorly received and axed after just one series.
Tumblr media
Unlike Stars In Their Eyes, Starstruck sees a panel of judges presiding over the contestants.
Jason appears on the panel alongside Beverley Knight, Adam Lambert and Sheridan Smith, who he also spoke out in defence of.
As some social media users noted that the show had started in the same week her latest drama No Return debuted on ITV, Jason tweeted: “Seen a few comments about Sheridan being on tv a lot this week. It’s not sommat she’s in charge of,she would’ve filmed those 3 excellent shows last year & some scheduler decided they went on this week. So chill out, also she’s excellent & you’re lucky to have her.”

Starstruck continues on Saturday at 8.30pm on ITV.

Robbery (1967)
“Wait for the signal!”
Generally considered a footnote in British Cinema history, Robbery is a curious little film which seems to have exerted a lot of creative influence without ever really entering the public consciousness.
Producer Michael Deeley bought the rights to Peta Fordham’s 1965 book The Robber’s Tale, a purportedly ‘true account’ of the so-called Great Train Robbery. The 1963 crime had captured public imagination and elevated the robbers to almost celebrity status. Even with the book rights, Deeley was concerned about potential lawsuits and the decision was made to adapt only the actual robbery scene (from court transcripts) and to use ‘fictitious speculation’ to make the rest of the film.
Deeley brought on Peter Yates and the two shopped the script around, eventually approaching Stanley Baker. Baker and Deeley would share producing duties with Baker also starring. They approached Vanessa Redgrave to co-star (she turned the film down), George Raft to appear (he was refused entry to the UK) and Jason Robards to play a US backer (his scenes were shot but abandoned from the final cut). The cast they did get is a glittering who’s who of British character actors from 60s tv.
Along side Baker, the films ensemble cast includes Barry Foster, William Marlowe, George Sewell, Rachel Herbert, Clinton Greyn and Frank Finlay - All familiar faces on British television in 1967. Mike Pratt and Ivor Dean appear uncredited, as does a very young Robert Powell - Powell would go on to appear in The Italian Job (1969), also produced by Deeley by the production company he ran with Baker. That same company, Oakhurst Productions, would later make Perfect Friday (1970), starring Baker and featuring his Robbery co-star Patrick Jordan in a minor role. Further to this, the law is represented here by James Booth and Glynn Edwards; both had appeared with Baker in Zulu (1964), the film on which he had first cut his teeth as a producer.
In many ways, Robbery feels like a dry run for The Italian Job. A lot of the elements are here: the opening car chase, the meticulous planning of the crime, the recruitment of villains and internal power struggles. But where the later film often plays for laughs and includes any number of classic quotes, this film plays it all deadly seriously. There are long stretches where characters don’t speak, and when they do the dialogue is concise and sharp - even dark, as Baker threatens Frank Finlay’s family to ensure his cooperation, or grimly explains to his wife why he has a gun in the house (“I’m not going back to prison..”).
That isn’t to say the film is too dark or serious - actually it hits just the right note. It is, to use a cliche, a ‘taut thriller’, pin-sharp and very intense. The fact that most of the characters are sketched in, with little discernable motivation beyond Making A Lot Of Money doesn’t really hurt the film at all. Perhaps its the hard work of a talented, but not showy cast. Perhaps its just that the film is very well made. Its almost two hours long and it really is just about a robbery, but it never once flags. There is no fat to trim and I was entirely hooked throughout.
Although not a huge success, Robbery was not a failure either and appears to have done ok. One particular element seems to have had the most influence - that opening car chase, as the villains evade the police having committed one robbery to fund the main event. Its incredibly well made, an intense ten minutes of high octane nonsense through London suburbs, trying to shake the police and avoid the pedestrians. At least two people were very impressed - received wisdom has it that Steve McQueen and producer Philip D'Antoni saw the film and were inspired to hire the director, Peter Yates, for their next venture: Bullitt (1968).

S14 TOP 10!!!!
A few general thoughts before we get into it:
- Love the new stage! The “balconies” remind me of the old days, and it just looks cool.
- CAT DEELEY IS THE BEST.
- Vanessa Hudgens is adorable and an excellent addition to the judging panel. Jason who?
- Pretty sure I recognized the all star group routine costumes. Anyone?
- Hope Allison’s injury isn’t too bad. Miss her!!!
- I wish we could get to know something about these newbies...I didn’t feel like we got to know them that much throughout The Academy or as much as previous years.
- The editing so far this seasons has been absolute crap. Awkward transitions, sharp cut offs and just all around annoying. The partner reveal seriously ruined the anticipation and drama of the green mile. I loved watching the reactions, and this solo walkout onto the stage is not doing it for me.
Fikshun and Dassy -- Dassy was a great choice for Fikshun. They clearly have great chemistry, and they have the same fun personality that shows through their dancing. And damn, Dassy can hold her own! There were some really intricate moves in Poppin’ Pete’s routine, and they really were on the same level.
Allison and Logan -- I’m pretty torn about this routine. First of all, you can tell from the choreography that it was absolutely meant for Allison. I like Audrey a lot, but she’s not Allison. I can see why Allison chose Logan though. He really gives so much to his performance, just like her. Logan is also mature beyond his years, in carriage and in skill. I think he’ll be around awhile.
Jenna and Kiki -- I’m disappointed in this choice. Concrete would have been such a hard worker and an overall better DWTS pro audition for Jenna. Sure, Keke is a great ballroom dancer, and he did great in that routine BUT there is no match for that chemistry that Jenna had with Concrete at The Academy. Great choreo from Dmitry, and as everyone said, GREAT job by Jenna. We’ll see how long Keke lasts...he’ll definitely get the cute guy little girl vote.
Cyrus and Kaylee -- OBSESSED with this match. Chemistry is off the chain!!! There were some really cool choreo moments from Tessandra, as usual. I love the story that she always tells. I was honestly surprised by the harsh critique from Nigel. I though Kaylee was beautiful and real. I also love that she doesn’t have the “typical” dancer build...she’s athletic and strong in addition to being graceful and beautiful. I wasn’t going to vote, but I think I will for her.
Gaby and Lex -- There was almost zero drama in this choice...the world would have revolted if she didn’t pick Lex! I know that most dancers take tap at some point, but damn is Lex good for not being a “tap dancer”. He gets those nuances and hits the rhythms so well. I really like him in this style because I feel like it brings out the light hearted and fun side in him that contemporary doesn’t. Fabulous routine by Anthony, to the surprise of literally NO ONE. These two will go far for sure!
Comfort and Mark -- As much as I would have loved to see Comfort dance with another girl, I think this was the right choice for her. There was some great chemistry in that Luther Brown piece, and he has a little goofy side that fits so well with her $wag. And so much energy! As Vanessa said, the camera loves Mark and he knows how to work that. It’s a damn good pairing, and I am rooting for them. I have a feeling Mark can do a lot of things well. Ha Nigel - Bruno Mars’ little brother for sure!
Marko and Koine -- This was a tough choice because Marko performed so well with both his girls in The Academy. It could have gone either way, but I’m really pleased with Koine. Usually Marko is a little bit lost in a partnership (obvious exception = Melanie), but he seems to really vibe with Koine. She is breathtaking and everything seems so effortless in her movement. I can see them going far.
Paul and Sydney -- I ship it!! There’s some great chemistry with these two...they just seem to fit so well together. The synchronicity was spot on, even with some fast and tough choreography from Val. Sydney seems like she could be the brunette dark horse in this competition. Something about her makes me feel like she can do literally anything. I think if she can get over her “personality issues”, she’ll go really far.
Robert and Taylor -- First things first...TRAVIS FREAKING WALL! I can’t deal with his genius. Vanessa is a damn mess, and I am right there with her. Taylor is absolutely STUNNING. When you dance to an acapella, there is no room for error, and there was no error! It was extremely technical, extraordinarily beautiful and beyond moving. I adore Robert, but it was honestly hard to even notice him with Taylor’s skills. WOW. These two are going to be a force to be reckoned with!
Jasmine and Robert -- I would like to take this moment to say that I might be a little bit in love with Jasmine Harper. She is incredible, and she just gets better every time I see her. Robert was so fun in this, and he really kept up with Jasmine. I really loved their chemistry and connection, and it was just a great piece from Chris Scott. I’m hoping these two do well!
Overall, this was a great first live show. I’m not sure if I like the whole dancing with the same all star every week thing, but it does bring me back to the whole o.g. partners situation. I’m feeling positive about the talent this season, and I’m excited for the rest of the episodes to come!
