USA Cricketer Jaskaran Malhotra Clobbers 16 Sixes In Whirlwind 173 Not Out Knock
USA Wicket Keeper batsman Jaskaran Singh Malhotra set the Al Amarat Cricket Stadium in Oman on fire, when he cracked a whirlwind knock of 173 not out setting several batting records, which included the clobbering of 6 sixes in an over in an ICC Cricket 2023 World Cup League Qualifying Match 2 against Papua New Guinea on Thursday.
Tumblr media
His knock registered on the Ministry Pitch 2 of the Al Amaret Grounds, ended up helping his team score 271 for 9, which they went on to win by 134 runs as Papua New Guinea were bowled out for 137.
Malhotra also became the first American to register an ODI century beating Aaron Jones 95 runs recorded against UAE at Sharjah in 2019. It was also the first International century scored by an American in any form of international cricket.
Malhotra the Chandigarh born 31 year old's knock contained 16 sixes and 4 fours and was made up off 124 balls with a strike rate of 139.51.
Incidentally Malhotra's 6 sixes hit in a single over was also the second time it has ever been recorded in International One Day Cricket.
It was previously registered by South African opening batsman Hershelle Gibbs, who recorded it against the Netherlands in the 2007 ICC 50 Over World Cup.
Others to have hit 6 sixes in international cricket are Yuvraj Singh who hit England's Stuart Broad and Kieron Pollard who hit Sri Lanka's Akila Dhananjaya. These two feats were however recorded in T20 International matches.
Description of the six sixes:
1. Batting in his usual stance he lofted the bowler on the front foot from outside off over long on. 2. Batting in his usual stance he lofted the delivery pitched way outside off stump on the front foot over long off. 3. Batting in his usual stance he lofted the delivery pitched outside off stump on the front foot over the bowler's head for a straight six. 4. Bowler decides to bowl right arm round the wicket. He took his initial stance batting on the off outside the stumps whilst exposing his stumps. At the point of delivery he moved      back and lofted the delivery from outside off over long on. 5. Bowler decides to come over the wicket. He bats way outside the off stump. Moves back in his crease at the point of delivery and lofts it on the front foot over long off. 6. Batting outside the off stump he goes on the back foot and swivels to hit the shortish delivery over square leg.
The unlucky bowler was PNG'S medium pacie Gaudi Toka who was bowling the last over of the innings.
Prior to this innings Malhotra had represented USA in 6 ODI matches and had only scored 55 runs with a top score of 18 runs.
With this knock, Malhotra joined some illustrious names by scoring 63.83% of his team's runs during his knock of 173 not out. Heading that illustrious list of names for the highest percentage of runs scored by a batsman in an international ODI innings, is led by Sir Vivian Richards (69.48) followed by Kapil Dev (65.78) and Rohit Sharma (65.34). Malhotra sits at number five in this list behind the Papua New Guinea cricketer T.P.Ura who recorded an average of 64.25 during his knock of 153 scored against Ireland in 2018.
His 16 sixes hit in an innings is only second to Eoin Morgan who hit 17 sixes against Afghanistan at Old Trafford in 2019.
Others who have hit  16 sixes in an ODI Innings in joint second place are Rohit Sharma, Chris Gay and A.B.De Villiers.
Incidentally Malhotra also recorded the 4th highest score by a wicketkeeper in ODI Cricket. First on that list is M,S,Dhoni who scored 183 not out against Sri Lanka in Jaipur in 2005, followed by South Africa's Quinton de Kock (178) and Bangladesh's Liton Das (176). Fifth on that list is Australia's Adam Gilchrist who scored 172 against Zimbabwe in 2004 in Hobart.
Malhotra now holds the record by himself for the highest score recorded by a batsman batting at the number five position in ODI Cricket.
Following Malhotra on that list in second, third, fourth and fifth positions are South African A.B.De Villiers (162), Australia's Andrew Symons (156), Andrew Symons (151) and England's Jos Buttler (150).

Darren Bravo, Ali Khan to headline US Open Trinbago Knight Riders star Darren Bravo and Muhammad Ali are both expected to feature in the 2018 edition of the popular US Open T20 tournament, which takes place in Central Broward from December 12 to 16. Bravo and Khan recently celebrated success with the TKR in the Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and they will be looking to take this winning formula to the US Open T20. The two players have been retained by the US All-Stars team according to captain Zishawn Qureshi. "We definitely will have a few of the stars back. We’re looking forward to welcoming Darren Bravo and Ali Khan along with USA’s Jaskaran Malhotra. As well as core players such as Rajesh Sharma and myself. As I said, we are working on bringing some exciting guys into the team. Hoping to win back the title that we lost after a disappointing final last year. "Preparations are coming along great for Us Open. We’re excited to see how the draft goes this year. Behind the scenes, a lot of negotiations are in place to bring some exciting players into the squad to support our core players from previous years like Ali Khan." The US Open T20 draft takes place on October 20 at Fort Lauderdale and registration closes on October 10. Qureshi has been playing at the US Open for the last nine years and in between his studies have still been able to stay on the cricket field. He will take leadership of the team this year, taking over the reigns from Canada's Rizwan Cheema who was captain of the All-Stars last year. In terms of his taking up the role, he says: "Yes, it was meant to be in years past but building a team, managing it, and captaining gets tough. However, this year I’ll take that role on. "My game is improving by the day. I had a good tournament with the ball out in Chicago. Moved up to opening and enjoyed hitting in the power play. So definitely some exciting changes for me personally." The left-arm orthodox spinner and the hard-hitting batsman is enjoying the game once more: "Balance is always difficult like in cricket it’s a key part of things though. You got school work, but then you have a game and fitness to keep up. #cricket #usopencricket #usa https://www.instagram.com/p/BocOA9NAKnv/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1hnznozh1ec1c

Your guide to the six teams in the 2018 Caribbean Premier League | Cricket News
http://www.internetunleashed.co.uk/?p=34334 Your guide to the six teams in the 2018 Caribbean Premier League | Cricket News - http://www.internetunleashed.co.uk/?p=34334 David Warner, Chris Gayle and Steve Smith are some of the star attractions in the 2018 CPL Defending CPL champions Trinbago Knight Riders are aiming to win a third title in four seasons, while Guyana Amazon Warriors, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, and St Lucia Stars are looking to lift the trophy for the first time. Ahead of the 2018 tournament - which you can watch live in full on Sky Sports Cricket this summer - we look at how the six teams are shaping up… Watch the CPL on Sky Sports! Watch all 34 games live, starting with defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders v St Lucia Stars on Thursday. Barbados Tridents Martin Guptill played for the Guyana Amazon Warriors in 2017. He will be a key player for the Barbados Tridents this year Best result: Winners (2014)2017 result: 5th Overseas players: Martin Guptill (New Zealand); Steve Smith (Australia); Hashim Amla (South Africa); Sunny Sohal (USA); Wahab Riaz (Pakistan) Mohammad Irfan (Pakistan)Captain: Jason Holder2018 chances: The Tridents' bid to improve on last year's disappointing showing has been boosted by the arrival of former Australia skipper Steve Smith, who replaces Shakib Al Hasan.Martin Guptill also comes into a new-look squad and he will resume the batting partnership he had with Dwayne Smith after they played together for Guyana in 2016.Amla's presence merely serves to emphasise a formidable-looking top-order. Fast bowler Mohammad Irfan, who has 94 wickets in 82 T20 games, is a fine addition in place of fellow left-armer Junaid Khan.Guyana Amazon Warriors Luke Ronchi will look to get the Warriors off to some flying starts Best result: Runners-up (2013, 2014, 2016)2017 result: 3rdOverseas players: Shoaib Malik, Sohail Tanvir (both Pakistan); Chris Green (Australia); Cameron Delport; Imran Tahir (both South Africa); Luke Ronchi (New Zealand); Saurabh Natravlalkar (USA)Captain: Shoaib Malik2018 chances: The Warriors have never won the tournament, but they are the most consistent having qualified for the play-offs every year since its inception in 2013.Guyana will not have Cameron Delport until August 17, so have brought in Australian all-rounder Chris Green - who has represented Sydney Thunder and Lahore Qalanders - as cover, but the pick-up of Luke Ronchi should ensure quick runs at the top of the order. The versatile Kiwi's 10.2 runs/over is the highest run-rate of any player facing at least 200 balls in all T20 cricket since the start of 2016. Shoaib brings huge experience as captain after five years at Barbados, having won 24 of his 36 T20 internationals as Pakistan skipper.Jamaica Tallawahs Andre Russell is back for the CPL after a one-year suspension Best result: Winners (2013, 2016)2017 result: 4thOverseas players: Shahid Afridi, Imad Wasim (both Pakistan); David Miller (South Africa); Ross Taylor; Glenn Phillips (both New Zealand); Elmore Hutchinson (USA)Captain: Andre Russell2018 chances: The two-time champions look certain to improve on last year's showing with Shahid Afridi, David Miller and Ross Taylor providing plenty of overseas power to complement the finishing prowess of the returning Andre Russell, who missed last year's iteration while serving a one-year ban for doping but was in wonderful form at the 2018 IPL.A squad packed with all-rounders also has the pace of Kemar Roach, the left-arm spin of Imad Wasim and in Krishmar Santokie, they have the second-highest wicket-taker in CPL history. Expect a very strong challenge from the Tallawahs.St Kitts and Nevis Patriots Chris Gayle's St Kitts & Nevis Patriots reached the final last year Best result: Runners-up (2017)2017 result: As aboveOverseas players: Ben Cutting (Australia); Mahmudullah (Bangladesh); Sandeep Lamichhane (Nepal, first half of tournament); Rassie van der Dussen (South Africa, second half of tournament); Tom Cooper (Netherlands); Anton Devcich (New Zealand); Ibrahim Khaleel (USA)Captain: Chris Gayle2018 chances: Bright - certainly if Gayle and Evin Lewis, potentially the most destructive opening partnership in the competition, get going. The Universe Boss and Lewis managed four and three half-centuries respectively last term as the Patriots, rock bottom of the table in their first two seasons, made the final.Batting is definitely the side's strong suit but hard-hitting all-rounders Carlos Brathwaite and Ben Cutting could make an impact with the ball, too, while Gayle's men will be looking to mystery Nepalese spinner Sandeep Lamichhane, 18, to bamboozle batsmen before he heads off for international duty in late August.St Lucia Stars David Warner is an important acquisition for the Stars Best result: Fourth (2016)2017 result: SixthOverseas players: David Warner (Australia); Mark Chapman (New Zealand); Mitchell McClenaghan (New Zealand); Mohammad Sami (Pakistan); Niroshan Dickwella (Sri Lanka); Qais Ahmad (Afghanistan); Jaskaran Malhotra (USA)Captain: Kieron Pollard2018 chances: With the Stars making the play-offs just once in five seasons - and losing nine of their 10 games in 2017 - they will be hoping the acquisition of David Warner reaps dividends, the left-hander, banned from Australia duty following the ball-tampering episode, has been drafted in as a replacement for countryman D'Arcy Short.Warner says he is looking to "entertain" and has backed his team's power-packed batting unit, including captain Kieron Pollard, who has joined from Barbados, and Lendl Simmons, to follow suit. The bowling still looks a little light, though the signing of Kesrick Williams, who snared 15 wickets for Jamaica last season, could be key. Keep an eye on Qais Ahmad, too, yet another guileful teenage Afghan spinner.Trinbago Knight Riders Brendon McCullum is part of a formidable batting line-up for the Knight Riders Best result: Winners (2015, 2017)2017 result: WinnersOverseas players: Brendon McCullum (New Zealand); Colin Munro (New Zealand); Chris Lynn (Australia); Fawad Ahmed (Australia); Ali Khan (USA); Hamza Tariq (Canada)Captain: Dwayne Bravo2018 chances: It's hard to look past Trinbago once more. Batting-wise, Australia's Chris Lynn has been added to a potent unit still featuring New Zealanders Brendon McCullum and Colin Munro and Windies wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin. But it's the Knight Riders' bowling attack that looks the competition's most complete, with the slower balls of Dwayne Bravo, the spin of Sunil Narine, and the seam of Kevon Cooper - that trio claimed 40 wickets between them in 2017.Trinbago will be shorn of paceman Ronsford Beaton and Pakistan leg-spinner Shadab Khan due to action issues and unavailability respectively - that duo took a combined 23 scalps last campaign - though Windies quick Shannon Gabriel is a fine replacement.Watch the 2018 CPL live on Sky Sports, starting with Trinbago Knight Riders v St Lucia Stars fro 12.30am on Thursday on Sky Sports Cricket, Main Event and Mix.Comment below to get involved in the debate, but please adhere to our House Rules.
