🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵 ・ Today, Tokyo Olympics 1964. ・ The Tokyo Olympics will be held in a week's time. Prior to the Tokyo Olympics 2020, I would like to introduce the Tokyo Olympics held in 1964. ・ The reason why post-war Japan was able to host the Tokyo Olympics in just a few years was because of the work of some very talented designers in Japan. ・ The colors of the five rings were officially designed by them. I would like to introduce some of these Nippon (Japan) Designs to you. ・ Check out the post for details. ・ ・ #olympics2021 #tokyoolympics #Nippon #japan #tokyo #kyoto #japantrip #japanhistory #japantools #japanculture #Japanproducts #olympics1964 #SportsFestival #tokyoolympic #japanolympics2020 (Kyoto) https://www.instagram.com/p/CRYcqNfs_sB/?utm_medium=tumblr

Final loot-from-Japan shot. I managed to pick up these last two pieces of Nigiri Basami (Thread snippers), sadly I couldn’t get more as Christmas gifts to friends. As expounded in my prior post, these start out as small slab of metal that slowly gets hand forged till its final form. One question I always had is the reason behind forging these thread snips by hand, from a single bar of metal. Instead of simply having two pieces made separately, joined by a rivet / screw at one end while leveraged by spring. One store I visited mentioned (caveat : he did say he isn’t too sure, but this was to his best knowledge) its forged this way for ultimate longevity and precision. When the metal is properly heated during its forging process, after it is bent, it would retain the “spring” tension indefinitely. In addition, it allows for miniscule fine tuning of how the two cutting blades meet each other as it slices. This will not be typically allowed if a rivet or screw was used as the fulcrum. This apparently adds to the cutting prowess of the blade beyond just having it expertly sharpened, as the angle and contact point the two blades glide along each other across the blade length is honed and tuned by the craftsmen. Unimaginable amount of detail, thought and care goes into making these. Just amazing. #heicrafted #handmade #handtools #handcrafted #handcraft #handstitched #handwork #bespoke #custom #madeinsg #madeinsingapore #style #leather #leatherwork #luxurylife #sgmakers #sgcrafters #thosewhomake #craft #madeinjapan #nigiribasami #japan #japantools #hei

Using a razorsharp Japanese leather knife for cutting the leather. With a bit of practice you can cut very even lines even trough thick leather. In Kyudo, the bow is held with the left hand, and the right hand, holding the string and arrow, is pulled to the back of the ear. Archery, on the other hand, requires only a chin-length pull. ...
