i always find the fetishization of asian (specifically japanese) culture in anime fandom and the ensuing making of anime inspired ocs really frustrating, but like in an almost funny way where sometimes becca or whatever is showing me her cool new japanese idol character and the way they’re written comes off as just the average loser asian american at best instead of someone who was culturally raised in another country. and i think we need to embrace this. because more often than not, your japanguy would NOT be on the tokyo subway aesthetically reading a book while the world whizzes by. he should be stuck in LA traffic. he’s a lame californian like every other asian american and you’ve let him out of his natural habitat. you’re hurting him.
