Beauty Pie SUPERDROPS >>>>>
This serum is working really well for me! It’s sits really well under all my other serums and moisturisers. Using this alongside other more hydrating products (particularly the Japanfusion Supreme Cream) has really made a difference to my skins glow and elasticity at the moment. It doesn’t feel tacky like some other hydrating serums. The texture is VERY LIGHT so a lot of dry or dehydrated skins may find this just disappears into the skin straight away. Focusing on nourishing your skin barrier with some heavier, moisture creams that contain ceramides and earthy oils, may help you see more better results. Or, you may prefer some of the other serums available at Beauty Pie that offer a different texture and mix of ingredients.

Brand Review: BeautyPie
Beauty Pie is the brain-child of Ms. Marcia Kilgore, who is also the guru behind Bliss and Soap&Glory. It’s not a subscription service like Ipsy or Birchbox; it's really more like Costco. You pay a membership fee, and depending on your membership tier, you get a certain amount of money that you can use to buy Beauty Pie products on their website but only pay a “member-price.” For example, if you pay $10 a month, you could spend $10 for a cleanser worth $20, and that $20 would count towards a monthly limit of $100. The average out-of-pocket cost of each product is usually less than $20. The reason why you pay only a small amount of what the product is “worth” is because Beauty Pie sells directly from the lab to the consumer, and doesn’t go through a distributor like Sephora. It’s one of the brands in this new era of high-quality, cheap skincare, like The Ordinary or the Inkey List.
And their products are really good. I really love their JapanFusion line, in particular their PureTransforming cleanser, which is a great jelly-to-oil cleanser that I’ve bought 3 times already. It’s the perfect lazy cleanser when I just want something that will gently clean my face without having to think too much about it. I also really like their Uber Youth Super Eye Energy Peptide Infusion Cream, and their JapanFusion Bioceramide Moisture Mask, which I use sometimes as an overnight mask or whenever the hospital has sucked all the life out of me.
So why would I hesitate to recommend Beauty Pie to everyone? Because like Costco, its membership is hard to justify in smaller households. I have their basic membership, which is $10/mo for a $100 limit, and in the 4 months I’ve had the membership, I’ve paid on average $30-40 per month for my products, which includes a flat $7 shipping fee. And honestly? I didn’t need most of the stuff, even to put in my backup stash, but I felt like I needed to because I had the subscription. I probably could have found roughly equivalent products by hunting through deals at Sephora or TJ Maxx. The best way to get the most bang for your buck with this subscription service would be to split the membership among a few people (like your fellow co-residents...), so you get a higher limit and spread the shipping cost over multiple products. It’s the same principle as sharing a Costco or Netflix membership.
I’m probably going to continue using Beauty Pie for the next few months because I like the fact that they’re female-owned and operated, and they’re a small business with a good idea and great products. With everyone hurting because of the COVID pandemic, I’d prefer to give them my money instead of a corporation like Sephora. Plus… I still haven’t figured out how to actually cancel my membership yet. :D You can find them HERE.

My Current Skincare Routine: Spring 2020
Here’s the skincare routine I’ve been following for most of the season and I have to say that it has kept my face looking quite spectacularly fresh and bouncy, considering the stress levels and overarching sense of fatigue that has dominated the past few months. (And the fact that I’ve been gorging on Mint Magnums with ever-increasing frequency.)
So the tweaks I’ve made seem to have seen me through spring without any significant dramas – though I think it’s also pertinent to note that I’ve been taking my Vitamin D every day, which always makes a huge difference to my skin, hair and nails. (To be more accurate, I took Vitamin D tablets for the first few weeks of lockdown, but when the weather turned glorious and stayed that way, I ended up spending most of my time outdoors and so I haven’t been quite so diligent at taking the supplement. Regardless, I always find the difference remarkable. My default state, in terms of vitamin D levels, seems to be “chronically deficient”.)
Anyway, no more blathering on: here’s my current routine. There’s a product list as long as my arm for this particular update (below the video pane), but not because it’s complex; I just wanted to give a few options for each step – something spendy, something sensible. Favourites old and favourites new.
My Current Skincare Routine: Spring 2020
In a nutshell:
Morning: Cleanse + Antioxidant + Moisturiser/SPF
Evening Night 1: Cleanse + Retinol
Evening Night 2: Cleanse + Hydrating Serum + Rich Moisturiser
My morning routine remains relatively unchanged. In fact I never really do anything funky or different in the morning, mainly because I don’t have the time to spare. Or even the time to think things through properly. As such, it’s usually a cleanser-serum-moisturise situation, although I’ve been outdoors a lot and so you can tag “sunscreen” onto the end of that list.
The cleanser tends to be light and splash-off and I love the Curel Foaming Wash* at the moment. The antioxidant du jour is Paula’s Choice Triple Algae Pollution Shield* and you can find out about my current most-used sunscreens here.
My evening routine alternates between two versions, neither of them very difficult or lengthy. After a thorough cleanse with a balm, usually twice, I’ll either apply my retinol product (see list beneath the video pane) or I’ll go in for the hydration marathon. Well, not really a marathon – just two steps. More of a hydration sprint. In the Dads’ race at school sports day.
The sprint consists of a hydrating serum and then a rich moisturiser, just to get things juicy and plumptious.
That’s it. The odd glycolic peel pad, but not so much at the moment because I’m outside for most of the day, and now and then a face mask, mainly because I’ve started drinking a herbal sleepy tea in the bath before bed and a face mask just feels right.
There’s a lot more in the way of explanation for everything in the video, so you should absolutely watch that. I don’t even waffle, which is nothing short of a miracle, especially as being locked in with two small children has completely melted my mind. Locked in? Locked down!
