Originally used as funeral offerings with no particular symbolism, flower arrangements have been apart of Japanese tradition since the Heian period (794-1185). Ikebana evolved to become a common decoration in Japanese homes, commonly reflecting religious belief.

WAAAAY Before I knew what that was, and what kept my mind sane and focus throughout primary and middle school, before there were animes, before video games, and before interpersonal activities there was ...

ORIGAMI / PAPIROFLEXIA

I could seat for hours reading and re reading my very small collection of origami books, and go over the diagrams, follow along in my mind folding the paper in my head, I could tell if I could make something just by looking at the instructions. Not to mention REAL imported origami paper were Like priceless treasures for me, I couldn't even bring myself to use such beautiful materials. (ᵕ—ᴗ—)

I got very adept at it and plateaued at a young aged, as a sided note, there were also fewer and fewer origami books at bookstores as I grew older, no more imports from overseas (ᴗ_ ᴗ。), and indulging in this particular hobby meant having to make my own 𝓕𝓪𝓷𝓬𝔂 paper and the like throughtrial and error, this was before internet and YouTube, so no tutorials online, this was the era of forums and blogs at internet cafés.

I used to give my friends flowers on valentine's day, and it became the thing that was expected of me.

But I lost that passion over the years, and haven't really done much origami in years, but the opportunity presented itself where such a sentimental handcrafted gift would be most welcome, and so I spent the last week & 1/2 folding flowers in between here and there, and coming up with visually appealing arrangements, and oddly enough making my own paper like in the good old days.

I think my fingers haven't lost that much dexterity over that extended holiday if I say so myself, my back on the other hand is not meant to bend over for long periods of time anymore.
