❝ well, christ, ❞ come the first words tumbling out of theo's mouth the moment he pushes open the door to the tattoo parlor to rival his own. the competition. ❝ i wasn't expecting it to be bustling in here, but damn, i expected it to be a little busier than this. ❞ and that's not really fair, is it ? every shop's gonna have downtime and, in fact, it's only because he's got nothing he needs to be doing right now back at no regrets that he's here. dark gaze lands on the only employee within earshot ― a familiar face, one that's fond of antagonizing him at any chance. and theo, of course, returns the favor whenever he can. pushing the door the rest of the way open, theo steps inside and flashes her a devious curious grin. ❝ what, you scare 'em all away, cruz ? ❞

lips twitch upward in a faintly amused smirk as theo wanders the lobby, curiosity luring him toward the flash and framed art on the walls. ( though he might be antagonistic in his own right, he's never one to shovel undue criticism onto an artist in the name of petty competition. and, theo has to admit, black ink revenge does boast a handful of rather talented tattooists. ) he pauses in front of an array of designs, but his gaze is on her. brows lift toward a hairline slowly beginning to silver and theo chuckles. ❝ if i'd known you were counting the days i might've dropped in sooner, ❞ he retorts. janis is just as quick with a comeback as he is, just as witty and sharp-tongued, and he'd be a liar to say he didn't enjoy her company immensely for it, even as he bristles on the surface at her jabs. and okay, yeah, they're right. but theo doesn't intend to concede so easily. ❝ oh, no... no. ❞ he clicks his tongue, looking back toward the flash sheet and reaching for the reading glasses hooked over the collar of his shirt. ❝ i just trust my employees to hold shit down when i'm not there, take care of their own business. 's a luxury that hiring competent artists affords me. ❞ her next question gives theo pause, if only because he's been talking a hell of a lot of smack for somebody who's actually come in request of a favor. well, no, not even a favor, really, but it feels shameful all the same. ❝ no, uh, i was... well, truthfully, hoping to run into you in particular ― tell a soul and i'll deny it ! ― because i had a question. for you. ❞ theo sucks in a deep breath, tries for a moment to cast his ego aside. ❝ do you have any spots available this month maybe ? ❞

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐅𝐀𝐌𝐈𝐋𝐈𝐀𝐑 𝐕𝐎𝐈𝐂𝐄 𝐂𝐀𝐔𝐒𝐄𝐒 janis to stop what she's doing, much to her annoyance. and of course, theo is at fault for it. in her years in the business janis has crossed paths with the fellow artist on more than one occasion. she hasn't always thought of him as pompous -- perhaps the outlook came following her decision to sign on with black ink revenge. ❝ well well, long time no see, king. ❞ the smirk that tugs at her lips as she arms herself with her next remark is unmistakable. ❝ you're one to talk. is your place that damn empty that you decided to come and heckle us instead ? that's a new low honey, even for you. ❞ they place the utensil aside, setting down their sketchbook at their station before standing, making her way in his direction to face him. she had a few choice words when it came to him, some more admirable than she cared to admit. and not just referencing his talent as an artist. ❝ you done, or did ya need somethin' ? ❞
