U.S. users email your representatives this, and make sure to include your zip code:
I am your constituent. I am strongly in favor of defunding Israel. I want my opinion logged on every single one of these pieces of legislation. It is an atrocity that the USA is sending our taxpayer dollars, weaponry, and other support to Israel in order to aid in the genocide of the Palestinian people. It does not reflect the will of your constituents, and I demand that you correct this by voting for/against the following bills, resolutions, and legislation.
To be frank, I will be basing my vote for you in upcoming elections on this issue. I will be watching closely to see how you vote on issues regarding funding to Israel. I will not vote for you in the next election if you vote to send any money, support, or weaponry to Israel. I will be voting for you if you vote to block money, support, and weaponry to Israel.
This is the current legislation I am for, and the current legislation I am against. I would like your office to record my opinion for each bill, and I would like you to take this into consideration when you vote.
I am FOR the following, and expect you to vote for this and co-sponsor, either now or when matching legislation reaches your office.
H.Res. 786: by Rep. Cori Bush
H.Res. 388 by Rep. Rashida Tlaib
H.R. 3103 by Rep. Betty McCollum
I am against Joe Biden’s proposal to spend billions of dollars on Israel via a package for Israel, Ukraine, Taiwan, and the US border. Biden is asking for $100 BILLION for this package and it is only 1 YEAR'S worth of funding. This is ABSOLUTELY unacceptable, and I am against you voting for ANY bill that spends even $1 on Israel. I do not care what else is in the bill. If it gives money to Israel, I am against it.
I am AGAINST the following, and expect you to vote against this and not co-sponsor, either now or when matching legislation reaches your office.

I am against any legislation that allows troops to deploy to the Middle East in support roles for Israel, as proposed by Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.
I am against Netanyahu’s ground invasion of Gaza, which will inevitably lead to mass killings of Palestinian civilians and escalate violence. If there are any future bills supporting this, you need to vote against them and not co-sponsor.
The U.S. Constitution and the War Powers Act stipulate that only Congress can authorize the president to use military force in a foreign war, except in cases of self-defense. Previous administrations from both parties have ignored this, with unauthorized strikes in places like Syria and Libya. I want you to stand against ANY use of military force that supports Israel or hurts Palestine.
And of course, I am against the usual funding of $3.8 billion PER YEAR to Israel. This 10-year agreement began in 2016. I do not want a renewal in 2026, and in the next election, I will vote for representatives who WILL NOT VOTE TO FUND ISRAEL. I will be keeping track of how you vote now, and I will not vote for you if you decide to fund Israel in any way.
I am a single-issue voter for this. I want you to defund Israel. I do not want a single dollar spent on supporting Israel. I will be paying attention to how you vote in the upcoming weeks and months, and if you vote to fund or provide weapons, troops, or intelligence to Israel, I will NOT vote for you in the next election.
We are paying attention to the budget. We know when you're giving aid to a country committing genocide instead of helping your constituents in the USA. Both myself and tens of thousands of other constituents have spent years saying that we don’t want our hard-earned taxpayer dollars going to Israel. The lack of willingness to fund anything for American citizens, but the quickness with which you take action for Israel is telling. It is unacceptable.
As an elected official, you have the opportunity to listen to the public and stand against genocide. Israel is currently committing war crimes against Palestine. You can stop this by defunding Israel. THOUSANDS of Palestinian people have been killed, 1/3 of them children, in just a couple of days. One child every 15 minutes is being killed. YOU can prevent this by refusing to send additional weapons and funding to Israel.
We are currently spending BILLIONS of dollars EVERY YEAR on Israel. I do not want my money going towards the ethnic cleansing and genocide of Palestinians. Not a dollar more.

Happy Weekend! :)
Babylon 5 s01e14: The Quality of Mercy
First Previous
ToC
I’ve learnt so much about the Centauri and Narn, can it be Minbari time?! edit: no. Not really.
Londo is frothing at the mouth at the opportunity to suborn the comically naive and sheltered Delenn’s Aide. Should be either quite funny, quite second-hand embarrassing, or both.
Judge: “may god have mercy on your soul,” Prisoner: *smiles*
I’m intrigued!
Medlabs aren’t free?? Not everyone can afford medical treatment??!! Oh no, Babylon 5 is absolutely and officially Space Dystopian Confirmed. :( :(
Unauthorized clinic = free clinic 😣😣😣
Ivanova-Franklin team-up yes! :-)
Talia episode, yes!! But goddamn boooo for more Talia Traumatization.
There’s so much going on in this episode.
Mysterious Alien Device Healer. (Laura) I understand disapproving of untested treatments, but it’s rich to scold someone who only takes donations, when your own medical practice charges. And doesn’t even seem to have a sliding scale!
Brain wiping people is ethically dubious enough, but reprogramming them into a new person and forcing that new person to serve the community for the rest of their life? That’s not ethically dubious so much as slavery by a different name. Reminds me of a short story I read recently.
Yeah, the strip club is definitely the “heart and soul of Babylon 5,” Londo. And getting the poorly paid Lennier to pay for it all. Extremely Londo Mollari.
“There’s no alcohol in here, is there? […] Because my people do not react well at all to alcohol. Even a small quantity causes psychotic impulses and - and violent, homicidal rages.”
Yeah better whisk that highly alcoholic beverage away, Londo. This isn't the only reason why you shouldn't drug people against their consent, but it sure is a great object lesson into ONE reason why it's a bad idea. For those persons that go "bodily autonomy and consent? Never met them."
“I have a quota to make, or the boss will take it out of my salary.”
really laying on the dystopian qualities of this universe - that is very illegal in my country but I keep waiting for attempts to roll back those worker protections.
Laura is a former doctor who had her license revoked. Very reassuring. And a dedicated daughter (Janice) who would rather not know if it really works or not than see her mom depressed about not seeing patients again 🫠
Hah, to the casino for Lennier and Londo! Bizarrely, this outing might actually be good for Lennier, or at least for his wallet up until Lennier gets banned from poker for card counting.
If they keep tormenting Talia she’s gonna end up my next poor little meow meow. She is so obviously dreading this and resents being asked slash required to do it.
It will only take a minute to wipe away a person and create a new one. How chilling. How frightful to live with that power and training. What is the purpose of requiring a mind scan before the wipe? This dude is absolutely freaking me out. Talia couldn’t even do the wipe/reprogramming after being in his mind.
MULTI-DAY VIEWING BREAK (oops)
nooooooo Lennier don’t let on that you’re counting cards automatically or you gonna get shanked!
Theory: Laura is using up her own life to heal these people. Via the Alien Device. I love her sweater. I want her sweater.
Theory confirmed! Life Force Transfer Device. And how creepy/cool that she repurposed a capital punishment machine. oooof. Wonder if the machine will stick around for Dues Ex Machina later in the show.
“If there is a discovery to be made, I will make it on my own terms!”
yeah, really she’ll probably make more progress with it as her only project for the rest of her short life than Franklin will. edit: not so short! I didn't see that twist coming.
Poor Talia, once again. Are they going to have to call for another telepath or send him to Earth to be wiped and reprogrammed? I bet Bester (my!! guy!!!) would out-creep him any day.
ESCAPE ATTEMPT. He really has a will to live. Understandably so! What a horrific punishment. Absolutely many many human rights violations.
LONDO. has. TENTACLES?! I’m moving on. That’s just something else.
😬 serial killer is definitely heading to Laura’s. And probably killing her. Of course Dr Franklin went there alone! Everyone except Laurel Takashima only has a 30% chance of using the shared brain cell at any given time. Laurel has something better: common sense at all times. (I miss you Laurel my beloved and hope daily that you pop back up as a guest star.)
Pain share! yesss. Every other episode is legit a horror short story. I hope she also took every bit of his life force and used it to heal her Lake’s Syndrome. edit: fuck yea
good grief, the device does need to be studied, but by the people who charge for healing?! Really. It’s such a dystopia.
Talia and Laura should talk. I think Talia could convince her that the right and necessary things are the same in this instance. That is not a death to regret.
Lennier is genuinely too naive and generous to survive on Babylon 5. Someone’s gonna shank him.
Tentacle Secrets. I do not want to know. And yet I am being told. I think I’d be slightly more OK with tentacle Centauri if it weren’t so gendered, and *gestures broadly* LONDO. He makes everything kinda gross and sleazy by proximity.
“I am going to take a vow of silence concerning this entire conversation.”
MEEE TOOOOO LENNIER.
Hermaphrodite Passion Goddess is pretty cool, tbh.
This woman redeemed herself for losing a patient and medical license by discovering and repurposing an execution method for healing. I can’t imagine what she’ll discover as her redemption for directly killing a person will be. Perhaps a less ethically obscene panacea!
And Samuel’s got a date. Janice is cute af! I ship it.
Here be lunatics and blessed dreamers. Seekers.

Babylon 5 - 1x21
“The Quality of Mercy”
Interesting title!
I think Ivanova is my favorite character so far. Going down to the free clinic like a hard ass and then is like “If I'm gonna share the blame I'd like to share the fun at least.”
Talia is back! Unfortunately, she has to go into the mind of another killer (played by the familiar face of Mark Rolston). No wonder there are very few telepaths that want to work on criminal cases.
I don’t know if I would go so far as to say he is being hypocritical, but Doctor Franklin isn’t being entirely fair to Dr. Rosen (played by other familiar face - June Lockhart) since he is running his own sideline clinic. But I was glad to see that he was willing to listen to Janice.
I guess I must have missed the opening conversation Londo had with someone, because his hanging out with Lennier is kind of weird. I went back and rewatched the opening scene. So he is “[forging] good relations with possible allies.” Those tentacles at the poker table…are they Londo’s? They look very similar to the “feeder” from 1x15 (“Grail”). Lennier has MOVES! I still don’t 100% understand, but the tentacles (for lack of a better word) are normal anatomy for a male Centauri? Okay.
Anyway this was a really good episode. Though it seemed more like a filler episode, it was one of my favorites so far. I really liked how the storyline of Franklin/Rosen and Karl Mueller came together at the end. And of course there is the debate on capital punishment. I liked Dr. Rosen’s line:
Janice: “You did the right thing.” Dr. Rosen: “I did the necessary thing. That is not always the same as the right thing.”

The National Media Mob Descends on Iowa
DES MOINES — Every spring, the Washington impresario Tammy Haddad hosts a brunch before the White House Correspondents’ Dinner that is a required stop for reporters, editors, network news anchors and political operatives. That crowd is currently in Iowa — drinking, schmoozing, occasionally driving off to see a presidential candidate or two — so Ms. Haddad, a media consultant and TV veteran, decided to bring the fun to them. Hence the Snowflake Garden Brunch, a Georgetown-in-the-cornfields gathering in Des Moines on Sunday that attracted a healthy chunk of the visiting political class.Attendees were greeted with mimosas and a wall of Krispy Kreme doughnuts. The anchor Greta Van Susteren chatted up Senator Joni Ernst of Iowa. Mayor Pete Buttigieg’s spokeswoman, Lis Smith, gossiped with executives from ABC and NBC. The 15-year-old son of Janice Min, the former Us Weekly and Hollywood Reporter editor, was on-hand reporting for a group called KidUnity. The sponsors included Wells Fargo, the health insurer Anthem and a Washington-based lobbyist for the wind energy industry.“I’m living the dream at the Wells Fargo brunch,” one reporter said, eyeing an ice sculpture of a cow.Hundreds of journalists from Washington and New York have been crisscrossing the state for weeks covering the run-up to Monday’s caucuses, seeking insight into the psyche and soul of the average Iowan and stress-testing the abilities of a jumbo field of Democratic hopefuls. But as at any industry gathering, shoptalk is hard to avoid. These days, Iowa and its journalist hot spots — namely the glaringly lighted, hideously carpeted lobby bar of the Des Moines Marriott Downtown — can feel like a summer camp, trade convention and I.R.L. Twitter rolled into one.“It’s not quite Mos Eisley,” said Edward-Isaac Dovere, a staff writer for The Atlantic, referring to the alien cantina in “Star Wars.” “But everyone does seem to come through eventually.”On a recent evening at the Marriott, puffer vests abounded. Jake Tapper of CNN held court, and Ed Henry of Fox News popped by. Senior Democratic officials gossiped with correspondents from BuzzFeed, CNN, Politico and Time. Bloomberg News threw a Super Bowl screening with an open bar and free chicken wings. The Marriott gift shop was selling a T-shirt emblazoned with a logo that seemed tailor made for the visiting clientele: “Hi. Didn’t I Interview You 4 Years Ago?”It was the kind of crowd that lets out a collective gasp and tweets multiple exclamation points when the final Des Moines Register poll of Iowa voters is abruptly canceled. Which happened on Saturday night.“There definitely aren’t any caucusgoers there,” Mr. Dovere said, “but it’s where the operatives and reporters just assume everyone is heading.”The last weekend before the caucuses brings a unique kind of frenzy, along with some dweeby fandom (hey, it’s the “Pod Save America” guys!). More than 400 reporters attended Mr. Buttigieg’s final rally on Sunday at a high school. Television and newspaper executives, in town for a look-see, sat down to steaks at downtown chophouses while rookie embed reporters drank at the Mexican dive El Bait Shop.Occasionally, the high reporter-to-real-person ratio yields political consequences. John Kerry, the former secretary of state, had the misfortune of sitting next to an NBC reporter at breakfast when he apparently blabbed on the phone about a potential run for the presidency. The story exploded on Twitter before Mr. Kerry issued an obscenity-laced denial.“Strong ‘overheard on the Acela’ energy,” Rosie Gray, a BuzzFeed News reporter, wrote on Twitter, referring to the Amtrak express train that whooshes the chattering classes between New York and Washington. Were average Americans following the reports from Iowa? Unclear. With President Trump on trial in the Senate, the ABC, CBS and NBC evening newscasts devoted just 10 minutes of coverage last week to the caucuses, compared with 86 minutes in 2016, according to one study. Correspondents in Iowa, on three-hour drives to candidate forums in Decorah or Fort Madison, made a habit of listening to C-SPAN Radio to keep up with the impeachment proceedings.Back at Ms. Haddad’s Sunday brunch — which raised money for veterans’ groups — a contingent coalesced around Rob Sand, the state auditor and boyish bright young thing of Iowa Democratic politics.“You look like a young Pete Buttigieg,” joked Hilary Rosen, the Washington operative and Ms. Haddad’s co-host. Mr. Sand’s fingers flew to his smooth cheeks. “But Pete can grow a beard!” he protested.Does Mr. Sand resent all these interlopers parachuting in? “I’ve tried to be ‘Iowa nice,’” he said wryly.Brad Anderson, the Iowa state director at AARP, said in an interview that he appreciated all the national interest in his state. But he advised reporters to spend more time meeting with the people who really mattered: the Iowans who would be caucusing on Monday night.“Stand on a sidewalk and just start talking to people,” he said. “You’ll get a better sense than at a fancy brunch.”Mr. Anderson happened to say this while kibitzing at Ms. Haddad’s fancy brunch. Be honest: Will he miss the media when it’s gone?“I will,” he said, laughing. “I love you guys. I’m not being cheesy here, but the media does appreciate the Iowan approach to this process, and that makes me happy.” Read the full article

Damson Idris and Gugu Mbatha-Raw have been cast in Farming, the directorial debut from Nigerian-British writer-director Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje.
The project is an autobiographical story based on Akinnuoye-Agbaje’s Annenberg award-winning screenplay, which was developed at the Sundance Film Institute, and chronicles his own story growing up fostered by a white working-class family in the UK.
HanWay Films is handling international sales for the project and is launching it to buyers at the Cannes Film Festival later this month. WME Global is repping domestic rights.
Rising star Idris, who stars in John Singleton’s upcoming FX series Snowfall, will play the lead role of Enitan, a young Nigerian boy “farmed out” by his parents to a white British family in hopes of giving him a better future. Instead, he grows up to become the feared leader of a white skinhead gang in 1980s England. Beckinsale, meanwhile, plays his foster mother, a stern, hard-loving, and at times self-serving woman who takes huge pride in her foster children while unable to provide them with the emotional support they crave.
Throughout the 1960s and the 1980s, thousands of Nigerian children were farmed out to white working-class families in the UK and as they were in private foster care, many of them were never registered with social services, making them invisible to the authorities. Growing up in white communities across the country, these children slowly lost their cultural identity and many were never reunited with their parents.
Michael London (Trumbo, Sideways) and Janice Williams produce through Groundswell Productions with Francois Ivernel (The Queen, Slumdog Millionaire) through Montebello Productions as well as Charles de Rosen, Miranda Ballesteros and Akinnuoye-Agbaje.
Production is scheduled to begin in August in the UK and Nigeria.
Akinnuoye-Agbaje is represented by APA and The Artists Partnership, Untitled Entertainment, and Ziffren Brittenham LLP. Idris is represented by Identity Agency Group, WME, and Elevate Entertainment.
Beckinsale is represented by UTA, and Mbatha-Raw by Curtis Brown, CAA and Authentic Talent and Literary Management. Idris, Beckinsale, and Mbatha-Raw are also represented by Hansen, Jacobson LLP.
