when i suggested i might do this on my main blog some of you expressed mild interest, so i've decided to give the people what they want and make a degrassi: the next generation character tournament.

i'm keeping this to opening credit tng characters (there will be two characters who aren't in the opening credits but whose presence looms so large that they had to be included anyway) because it was the only way i could make the math work, and also i thought it would be unfair to the degrassi junior high and degrassi high characters to set them against the tng kids. if this gains some traction and people are interested, maybe i'll do separate polls for the ogs and the next class kids (although many of them are featured in the tng polls as well) after we're done with the tng tournament.

i'm going to post the qualifying rounds later today. they'll consist of sixteen groups of five. i made the lists using a randomizer. the least voted character in each round will be disqualified, while the other four will move on to the main tournament. that way i'll narrow 80 main characters down to 64. i'll also be using these qualifiers to help seed the bracket. qualifying polls will be week-long.

this is the most math i've done willingly since high school so i hope you all appreciate the sacrifices i'm making here.

Kendra’s dynamic with each member of her graduating class:

Nadia: Best friends since kindergarten. Can also see them being endgame and being the fun aunts for Spane’s kids.

Danny: They’re best friends and have been ever since they were little. I can also see them dating too.

Jane: Adores her. Out of Spinner’s girlfriends, Jane is easily her favorite.

Chantay: Likes her too and are good friends. Just like with Danny & Nadia, I see them dating as well.

Mia: She’s fine with Mia. Not friends nor enemies. They’re just cordial. But Kendra does see what happened with Mia and Tom for what it was: statutory rape.

Darcy: Kendra doesn’t exactly hate her per se, but finds Darcy very hypocritical when it comes to a lot of her actions. She does try to reach out to Darcy when finding out about the rape.

Derek: She’s annoyed with him constantly hitting on her early on, but doesn’t mind him as a person. It’s only in season 8 when he becomes a complete bully and dickhead that she starts hating him.

Bruce: Dislikes him because he’s a bully and disrespectful to women. That dislike turns to hate when he pushes Jane into a locker while Derek beats the shit out of her. There are rare moments, like in the minis, where she finds him amusing.

Johnny: Kendra doesn’t exactly hate him, but thinks he’s a dick.

Peter: Hates him. Thinks he’s venom in human form.

I just finished season 9 of Degrassi. Yeah, random as fuck. And this show is just… YALL.

This show is really the greatest piece of media imma eyes has ever bestowed upon. Like??? The Young and the Restless, the Bold and the Beautiful AINT GOT SHIT ON THIS SHOW.

Imma give me full review when I finish the entire series, but for right now I wanna talk about two things, and both involved my man’s Spinner Mason.

First of all, Spinner and Emma getting married was… it was something! I definitely don’t hate it like everyone else does, but I don’t love it. Imma be honest, I like it enough because Spinner is involved and he’s my baby, so as long as he’s happy, I’m happy 😭. They definitely have chemistry tho, atleast in my eyes. I kinda like how it all started with Emma burning The Dot down and him hooking her up with the job in the first place, then her helping him with his breakup with Jane. It was very cute, instant love trope, and I’m fine with that. Realistically speaking: will they last? Imma be honest, I think so. Emma and Spinner are very stubborn in their own different ways. And I feel like if they hit a hard place, they’re gonna go through hell and back to try and fix it, simply because they don’t wanna let go of what they have. Spinner is stubborn with his heart, and Emma is stubborn with her head—they’ll make it work SOMEHOW.

The second thing is revealing my favorite ship of the show… and it’s Spinner and Manny. This is kind of surprisingly, but not really cause they’re both my favorite characters in the entire series so far. But hear me out.

I don’t think Spinner and Manny got a fair shot at being a couple. They got together at WORST possible time and it was doomed from the start, no matter what they felt about eachother.

If they got together in like season 5 or better yet, season 6, it would’ve been way better for them. I think they just have a lot in common, in their way that their personality is set up. And it’s funny because people say that with Jane, but really, Jane is more like Spinner in terms of vibes not personality, and I can see the similarities between Jane and Spinner. But with Manny n Spinner, they are both driven by their feelings a lot of the time and I think with more growth it’ll be very interesting a how they would interact with each other in like a romantic setting.

Spinner has a big heart, and he thinks more with his feelings and emotions rather than his logic. And Manny did the same thing a lot during the early seasons, that’s why she got in a lot of situations back then *cough* craig *cough*. And now we see Manny like trying to incorporate more logic alongside with her emotions in the later seasons, while Spinner is still slowly trying to do that. And I think both of them could learn with eachother.

Spinner and Manny also have like this ‘touch my friend and you’ll die’ attitude that I LOVE. And I love it so much to the point where I wish I could’ve seen them become way closer as friends and become like besties. Spinner broke up so many of Manny’s fights, it’s hilarious.
