can anyone tell me how rude it would be to approach jane schoebrun at this dyke bar to tell them BRIEFLY how much their work means to me. like do I just let them exist as a person or would they like to hear that

I tried to watch Lake Mungo but the whole mockumentary framing device put me off cause it made me hyperaware of the artifice of the whole thing. Same thing with the vlogs in We're All Going To the World's Fair, which I really tried to like due reading some fascinating interviews with the director Jane Schoebrun and the trans themes but it was like watching two people playing pretend.

It didn't feel real.

And I don't mean real as in "it actually happened", but real as in "I actually buy and even lose myself in the narrative".

One of the reasons The Blair Witch Project is considered so scary (especially when it premiered) is due to both its marketing and the found footage framing making it seem like it actually happened in the real world but stuff like this has the exact opposite effect on me and I don't know why.

Does anyone else feel this way?
