What happened the first time Jane did the ritual? She's got that perfect pour down by the time Nancy sees. But did she miss the hole that first few times and slosh oil everywhere? She just has to be a little bit off-center with that pitcher and we've got an oil slick all over the great hall.

Nancy Drew Games: analyzing shocking theories (Part 1)

Blackmoor Manor spoilers ahead!

Blackmoor Manor – Jane experimented on her guinea pig – False

So the theory here was basically that Jane experimented on her guinea pig with her uncle’s hair restorer, and that’s how her guinea pig died.  There was a letter that led some people to think this.

However.�� If you talk to Hugh on the phone, he says that the guinea pig passed away a year or two ago. Presumably way before Jane got the idea to do the hair growth idea and asked Uncle Roger about it.  Otherwise, her plan against Linda would have been premeditated for up to a year in advance!  Also, Hugh says he told Jane she was feeding him too much, and that’s what led to his death.

Hugh did mess up on the guinea pig's colour though (to show he's an absent father?) so I guess it's possible he may be misremembering other details. He wasn't even entirely sure what kind of animal it was. (This video at 6:15.)  But I don’t think Jane overfeeding her guinea pig is something he’d just make up out of nowhere.  And even if “a year or two ago” might be vague and not exactly accurate, we can still deduce that it must’ve been quite a while ago.

Ultimately, I think this person’s second paragraph is what really happened.  Jane used the guinea pig as an excuse to get the hair formula, even though at that point the guinea pig was already deceased.  And that’s why Jane was evasive with Nancy about when the guinea pig died.

Honestly, all of this is true. I used to not like Jane much at all, but especially since I played last, and seeing a lot of different people's takes on her, I'm liking her more and more, lol.

What villain do you think had the strongest plan in any of the games?

jane. oh my god, JANE. i cannot sing my praises to her enough. her thoroughness was unparalleled by any other villain we’ve seen. i honestly don’t even know where to begin with her. she’s very clearly remarkably clever for having come up with such a plan, and also somehow found the time to balance it with her tireless schoolwork AND finding the penvellyn treasure (including all the rituals that go with it).

listen, this plan was DETAILED. she even went so far as to rope nancy into the story and plant the seeds of the blackmoor beast into her from THE VERY MOMENT she makes it to blackmoor by hiding the red eyes in the front yard, to say nothing of the WOLF’S CLAW/TOOTH she somehow manages to get her hands on for that threatening note she slips nancy later on in the game. oh, and then there’s also the claw marks on the door, the spooky messages she even goes as far as to send to herself, and the various stories she tells nancy about seeing “the lady in black” around the manor. and all that is just for NANCY’S benefit. what she does to fool linda is a whole different, equally complex story. this was thought out to the letter and honestly, there is no one strong piece of evidence by the end of the game pointing the blame in jane’s direction—she’s very clean and neat with how she lays out this scheme and hardly leaves behind any clues giving her away as the mastermind behind this masterpiece of a plot.

to surmise, this twelve year old girl very nearly convinced a grown woman she was turning into a werewolf and almost got away with it. jane is going places.

I was trying to find Brigitte’s ballad in CUR by going hour to hour on the alarm clock and I realized that Jane was saying Latin conjugations from 6AM-10AM followed by another three hours of French and then she was BACK TO LATIN CONJUGATIONS 😭😭😭

The poor child. I get what Nancy meant by “rigorous” now.
