🐸 WIP 🐸 Wednesday 🐸
Nancy can’t sleep. She's been tossing and turning ever since she called the Byers and Will said Jonathan was in the shower. Because Jonathan doesn't take showers at night, he doesn't like going to bed with his hair wet so he takes them in the morning before school. Admittedly, it's weird that she knows his bathing habits but she's his girlfriend damnit she's supposed to know the weird things he won't tell anyone else. Like how I Will Always Love You makes him sob, or how he’s a fan of Thumper, or how he’ll eat strawberries even though they make his tongue itch.
She also knows when he’s lying. He's really not too good at it. He has such an excessively nervous disposition. When she’s in on the lie, they can play off each other and it’s much more convincing. Or at least convincing enough to trick the government, her parents and his mom. But, when Jonathan has to carry then lie he gets all fidgety and mumbly and weird. Well, weirder than normal. It's almost painful to watch.
Nancy knows it has to do with the fucking frogs. Jonathan loves animals; she knows that. It’s one of the things she loves about him. But she really didn't think that extended to frogs. Truth be told, that's probably bias on her part. She really, really doesn't like frogs. Once, ages ago, Mike decided it'd be so funny to drop one down the back of her swimsuit. Nancy spent what was probably only two minutes but felt like an eternity shrieking and running around the Hawkins pool trying to get it out. Worst of all, Mike did it in front of Jonathan and Will. It was mortifying and slimy. Then, he spent the next month making frog noises just to freak her out.
Even thinking about it now gives her chills. Nancy sighs and pulls the covers over her head,  she really doesn’t want to eviscerate a frog anymore than he does. But she's honestly not sure what to do. This particular predicament wasn't exactly covered in Seventeen magazine. She doubts that any other girl in the country has the same problem. Dear Abby, my sweetheart is a very sensitive and caring soul who can’t possibly be expected to dissect any animal really, but I have a phobia of frogs and if we fail the midterm I won’t get into my dream college. What should I do?
She groans at her ridiculous faux ask. Nancy’s not sure she’s ever wanted anything as badly as Emerson. Except for Jonathan of course. Which is exactly how she ended up with this conundrum. If Jonathan dumps her she’s suing Mr. Mahoney and Hawkins High for having such a barbaric exam.
Initially, she thought her solution was perfect. It absolved him of any wrongdoing. But then he dodged her call. In the four months they’ve been together, he’s never avoided her goodnight call. She tried to ignore it. Let sleeping dogs lie, if he wants to wreck their spring break with his moral dilemma then that’s fine. Except, everytime she closes her eyes all she can see is Jonathan on the verge of tears as she plunges a scalpel into a frog.

I’m honestly really excited to read the frog heist fic when it’s done. It’s the type of fic I need in my life rn
(Also ngl, when I saw the first post about Jonathan releasing the frogs, it made me think of that one scene in E.T where Elliott starts freeing the frogs from the jars. Middle school Jonathan 100% did the same thing and got sent to the principals office)
Hi Emily,
I am ALSO excited to read the frog heist fic. It's going to be so silly but they deserve to be silly. I need dumb seventeen year old shenanigans.
(Also 100% my boy is against animal cruelty)

<3
Hi thanks for the ask!
🥤- pas de deux by @leslie057 had me in a chokehold when I read it. It's soooo entrancing??? Like I was hooked
🍬 Eddie Munson is Jonathan Byers for people who don't get Jonathan Byers
🪲 (this was so difficult)
Admittedly, Jonathan isn't really paying too close attention in Bio. Nancy lightly tapped his foot about ten minutes ago and he's been distractedly playing footsies since. And if that wasn't bad enough she decided to do the flirty glance thing where they pretend they're not looking at each other. Which usually means they're going to spend independent study in the dark room. So yea, the last thing on his mind is his lesson.

Mini WIP Wednesday
“It's just…” Jonathan hesitates thinking of how to phrase his feelings so that Nancy gets it.  Nancy, for her part, is patiently waiting for him to finish expressing his thoughts.   “It's inhumane don't you think?”  he argues, taking a sip of his coke. “Honey…” Nancy sighs, biting her lip and giving him a soft look.   He knows that look. Granted, the last time she looked at him like that his little brother but he finds that he appreciates her pity even less now.   “And it's-it's antiquated”  he asserts. “I agree but-”  “We should just ditch or-or protest or something” He cuts her off and her eyebrows shoot up to her hairline.  “Jonathan! It's the midterm assignment!” she cries.  He loves her, really he does, but compared to the death of a hundred innocent frogs, a failing grade isn’t that big of a deal. “They pith the frogs, Nancy! You're honestly telling me you're ok with that?” He questions, loudly. At least, loudly for him.  “Well…” “We've been watching them grow all semester and for what to kill them?” he argues, his voice cracking.  Nancy sighs again and looks away, suddenly very interested in whatever Eddie Munson is selling out of the back of his van. Jonathan pokes at their remaining shared lunch and hopes she won’t notice he’s lost his appetite. She must decide that Eddie isn’t all that interesting because she turns her attention back to him.  She opens her mouth but closes it again and frowns. Jonathan watches as she tries to come up with a solution that doesn’t involve getting held back. But he can tell that he’s given her a seemingly impossible problem to solve. “We have to pass Bio” she resigns, defeated.  “I know but…” “Tell you what, I'll do the dissection and you can just write the notes ok?” Nancy offers with a big smile.  Jonathan nods, but it’s not really ok. He just doesn’t feel the need to upset her or make her worry more than he already has. But there has to be some more ethical third option. He just needs a minute to think without being distracted by her.  “I’m gonna run to the library” he announces, collecting his things.  “What?”  “Yea, I gotta go turn in a book. I just remembered” he fibs in a rush.  “Do you want me to come with you?” she asks, sweetly and he nearly says yes.  “No uh no it’s fine” he lies.  “Are you mad at me?”  Nancy worries.  “Of course not” he reassures, kissing her forehead “I’ll see you later”

🎁 fanfic asks?
Hi Liv,
Thanks for the ask!
🎁 Have a piece of a WIP you want to share?
“Jonathan wait” Nancy calls frantically. He complies with her request but he doesn’t turn around. Her heart races and slowly she finds herself noticing the little details of his appearance that she didn’t before; The sunkissed highlights of his hair, the red flush on the top of his ears from being in the desert too long, the way his old shirt is pulled too tight around his shoulders. She never really understood what people meant when they said time stops. But she thinks that eons could’ve passed by outside in the few minutes they’ve been standing here. Nancy doesn't really know what to say but she knows that if she lets him go now that this is it. That if she lets him avoid and evade they'll never get over whatever this is. Any chance of a future they have together will slip away with him. The knowledge has sent her heart plummeting. “Please don't leave” she pleads, her stomach in knots. “It's really not important” he brushes off. “It is to me” Nancy swears. “I can't go to Emerson” He repeats clearly, with the same resignation as ten minutes ago. Like he’s given up without a fight. Nancy wants to scream. “We-” Jonathan turns to face her suddenly, the stairs have added a couple inches to his height and the imbalance is incredibly uncomfortable. “I-I can't ask you to give that up because then you'd… you'd resent me. Maybe not right away but eventually. I'd-I'd be holding you back and then you would… you would leave and the kids would hate me and-” “We'd be just like your parents” she finishes with a sigh.

IDK maybe I've got haters, maybe people don't believe in Jancy shenanigans and hijinks, maybe people aren't here for a silly-goofy time, maybe the art of the sitcom is dead. WHO CAN SAY (thank u ily)
