Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein: Drowning in Lawsuits

Donald J. Trump and Jeffrey E. Epstein are currently two of the most talked about men in mainstream media. Due to the recent death of Epstein and the release of the Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich documentary on Netflix, the media has begun to focus on the relationship between these two American billionaires and has published some concerning allegations against both men.

The relationship between the two hit a peak around the 1980’s and 1990’s. Both Trump and Epstein resided in New York City and Palm Beach at the time, and regularly frequented the same places in public. Alan Dershowitz, who has served as a lawyer for both men, told the New York Times that “if you knew Trump then you knew Epstein, and vice versa.” They often had conjoined parties and were very fond of each other. Trump has been quoted as saying “I have known [Epstein] for fifteen years. Terrific guy. He’s a lot of fun to be with. It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side” [1].

During the year of 2004, the relationship between the two men took a sour turn. The two billionaires tried to buy the same mansion in Palm Beach, Florida. Trump eventually won the auction, and sold the home for more than twice the $41.3 million that he spent on it. The competition over the beachfront property reportedly ended the friendly relationship between Trump and Epstein [1].

Both Epstein and Trump share a history of numerous sexual assault allegations. In 2005, it was discovered by Palm Beach police that Epstein was at the top of a “sexual pyramid scheme” which involved girls who were hired to recruit other young women to be molested, with victim counts numbered in the dozen. Due to this discovery, in 2007, Epstein was indicted on sexual abuse charges that could have garnered him a life sentence in prison. But instead, U.S. attorney Alexander Acosta cut Epstein a deal that found the financier of pleading guilty to soliciting prostitution from a minor in exchange for serving just thirteen months in Palm Beach county jail. On the other hand, during the 2016 presidential election, an anonymous women filed a $75,000 dollar lawsuit accusing Trump of raping her at a party hosted by Epstein in 1994, when she was just thirteen years old. The lawsuit was ultimately dismissed over technical issues. Trump denied the allegations [1].

This same anonymous woman made another attempt at a lawsuit against Trump and Epstein after the first one was dropped. There has been no known police report, DNA evidence, taped conversations or witness testimony to support the allegation. Richard D. Pompelio of the New Jersey Crime Victims’ Law Center commented on the case stating that “[the victim’s] substantial delay in filing was because she was fearful of Trump and Epstein and their power. Any other subjective intimidation arguments she may make will probably not be sufficient to withstand a motion to dismiss” [2].

The sexual assault allegations began to add up after this first suit became public news. Another woman came forward in 2016, named Katie Johnson, and sued both Trump and Epstein for $100 million dollars. The suit accuses Trump and Epstein of luring the plaintiff and other young women to four parties at Epstein’s home in New York City with promises of cash and modeling careers [3].

“Tiffany Doe,” a separate anonymous source, claimed that she can corroborate all of these allegations. She testified that she met Epstein at Port Authority, where he hired her to recruit other young girls for his parties. According to the suit, Trump had known Epstein for seven years in 1994 (which is the date the allegations brought up in 2016 took place) and had been a normal attendee at the parties at Epstein’s Wexner Mansion [3].  

Another similar lawsuit was filed in 2015 by a woman named Virginia Guiffre. In her 2015 affidavit, Guiffre claimed that “Epstein trafficked me for sexual purposes to many other powerful men, including politicians and powerful business executives. Epstein also required me to describe the sexual events that I had with these men presumably so he could potentially blackmail them.” Guiffre has not made any accusations or named any of these “powerful men” which she described [4].

           In the Netflix documentary, a woman who says she was Epstein’s ‘first victim’ claims in a new lawsuit that the billionaire sex offender introduced her to Donald Trump when she was fourteen, saying “This is a good one, right?” Trump, according to the suit which is pending against Epstein's estate, “smiled and nodded in agreement.” Trump and Epstein both chuckled and the woman felt uncomfortable and at the time, was too young to understand why. Court documents say that this encounter happened in the mid-90’s at Mar-a-Largo, Trump’s Florida Resort. The suit does not accuse Trump of any abuse [5].

Even though both billionaires have been charged with similar practices and allegations, their stories have very different endings. Epstein was arrested on July 6th, 2019 on charges of sex trafficking of minors. A month later, on August 10th, 2019, Epstein was found dead by alleged suicide in his prison cell at the Metropolitian Correctional Center in New York City while he was awaiting trial [6] . Trump, meanwhile, won the presidential election of 2016 and is currently running for his second term.

Harvey Weinstein now settles for the persona of a frail man, beaten down by society and the so-called “feminazis”, who hurl at him with insults.  From “MeToo” hashtags, to op-ed articles, and swear-word filled rants (as actress Zoe Stuckless did when she saw him at a rising actors event). While #MeToo has allowed millions of victims of sexual abuse to stand together and connect in a place of solidarity, others believe that the #MeToo movement has given rise to some imaginary larger-than-life mob of feminists, now loose from patriarchal shackles and preying on undeserving men. In fact, it is this idea that Weinstein, and many other rapists before him, such as Bill Cosby and Jeffrey Epstein, use to pander sympathy from those who don’t care to have an opinion, don’t want to be associated with the word “feminism”, or are skeptical about rape accusations.

This is exactly where our culture has gone wrong. 

A close look into our country’s history and its patriarchal values reveals the truth of our system. Even as early as the 17th century, Lord Matthew Hale, a judge in England, warned jurors that rape charges are “accusations easily made and hard to prove and harder to be defended by the party accused”. He also advised that the victim’s testimony should be cautiously examined. In the past few years, it has become clear that this same sentiment has been passed through the legislative branch, cementing in our culture as time passes. Harvey Weinstein, after being accused by over 80 women,  is still on trial and may not even go to prison. Bill Cosby was finally imprisoned after more than 60 women came forward with allegations of abuse and harassment. Christine Blasey Ford continually faces death threats while her rapist, Brett Kavanaugh, is now a judge in the highest court in the land. The case of Jeffrey Epstein, which describes allegations against a man who sexually assaulted more than a hundred underage girls through a network of abuse and power-dynamics, was dropped after Epstein’s supposed suicide while in jail. Brock Turner, who raped his unconscious victim during a party, was released after serving half of his six-month sentence. If anything, these instances blare the message “Don’t report your rape!”. 

Throughout our country’s history, rape has rarely been deeply investigated, prosecuted or punished. Sexual assault is joked about. It is a crime thrown to the side when many voters make decisions on what candidate to vote for. It is almost easy to get away with. Out of every 1000 instances of rape, 13 get referred to a prosecutor and only 7 cases lead to a felony conviction. Last year, more than 20,000 women decided not to proceed with a rape investigation. 

The way that rape is treated in this country, and in most other countries, is despicable. If a victim wants to get a rape kit done, they must not wash, eat, drink, change clothes, or clean up any mess. They must provide every possible piece of evidence proving that the rape wasn’t consensual. In most cases, the victim is thrown questions like “What were you wearing?” “Were you drinking?” “What is your relationship with your accuser?” “How often do you have sex?” and other questions. Victims are forced to relive their nightmares and share intimate details of their sexual and personal lives, as well as removing their veil of privacy. Not to mention, the trauma that comes with speaking out, places an almost unbearable mental load on the accuser. One of Cristine Blasey Ford's most powerful quotes echoes this sentiment exactly: “Apart from the assault itself, these last couple of weeks have been the hardest of my life. I have had to relive my trauma in front of the entire world.” 

Rape culture, in essence, tells people to not be raped instead of teaching people to not rape. It manifests in victim-blaming, normalizing sexual violence, glossing over sexual assault with terms like “sexual misconduct” and through the hyper sexualizing of women and girls. If we are to truly revolutionize our system, we must start by believing and supporting victims, standing in solidarity with those who speak out and those who are shouldering their burden alone, calling out rape culture, and protesting fervently against a legal system that doesn’t do justice to survivors of rape and sexual assault.

MANILA – Another sub-leader of the terrorist Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) was killed during a police operation in Zamboanga City on Tuesday. Citing reports from PNP-Intelligence Group (IG) acting director Col. Warren De Leon, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, Gen. Debold Sinas, said police operatives served a warrant of arrest to Arrasid Adjing Halissam alias "Guru Ara" for illegal possession of firearms and explosives around 3 a.m. Tuesday. The suspect attempted to evade arrest and fired upon the arresting officers who fired back. “The full might of the law will not rest until the community is safe from atrocities and terroristic acts of the ASG,” Sinas said in a statement. The operation was initiated in relation to the alleged retaliation plan of the Sulu-based ASG under sub-leader Mundi Sawadjaan to spread atrocities in the Zamboanga Peninsula and Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi areas. De Leon said Guru, a member of Dawlah Islamiyah, was listed in the 2018 Periodic Status Report (PSR) on Local Terrorist Groups and was previously identified under the Ajijul Group or the Zamboanga cell of ASG. The Periodic Status Report revealed that suspect is the trusted man of slain international terrorist, ISIS-ASG Leader Isnilon Hapilon and facilitator of the late Malaysian international terrorist Zulkipli Kipli Bin Hir alias "Marwan". “In 2014, the late Isnilon Hapilon together with Guru Ara pledged their allegiance to the ISIS wherein Hapilon was later on pronounced as the "Emir" (leader) of Islamic State (IS) in the Philippines. However, after the death of Hapilon in 2017 in Marawi City, the slain suspect moved to Sulu and merged with the group of Hapilon's successor, the late DI-ASG Leader Hatib Hajan Sawadjaan," De Leon said. Guru Ara was also involved in various atrocities that include the kidnapping and beheading of Doroteo Gonzales in 2009; kidnapping of Kevin Lunsmann, Gerfa Yeatts Lunsmann and Romnick Jakaria in July 2011; kidnapping of Warren Richard Rodwell in December 2011; kidnapping of two Chinese nationals Yuan Lin Kai and Jian Luo in Poblacion, Kabasalan, Zamboanga Sibugay on June 4, 2012; and kidnapping of Sabrina Ikbala-Voon on February 19, 2014 in Barangay Mercedes, Zamboanga City. The slain suspect was also involved in the Bus Terminal Bombing in Guiwan, Zamboanga City on Jan. 23, 2015 that resulted in the death of two persons and wounding of 52 others as well as the kidnapping of Nwi Seong Hong, a Korean national on January 2015 in R.T. Lim, Zamboanga Sibugay. While Guru Ara was in Sulu in 2017, he was involved in different atrocities perpetrated by ASG particularly with the group of Sawadjaan. He was involved in facilitating the Indonesian suicide bombers in Sulu together with other Foreign Terrorist Fighters that led to the Jolo Cathedral suicide bombing on Jan. 27, 2019 which killed more or less 20 people and wounding of 105 individuals including members of the security forces and innocent civilians; suicide bombing attacks in a military detachment on June 28, 2019 in Indanan, Sulu that killed three soldiers and wounding of three civilians; suicide bombing attack in military detachment on September 2019 in Indanan, Sulu that caused damage of the detachment’s perimeter fence; twin bombing in town plaza near Jolo Cathedral, Jolo, Sulu on Aug. 24, 2020 that killed more or less 14 people and wounding of 75 others; and other atrocities in Sulu that caused the death of numerous members of security forces and civilians. In 2017, Guru Ara was among the ASG leaders who initiated and planned the terror attack in Bohol. However, the ASG members who were tasked to execute the plan led by the late Abu sub-leader Muammar Askali alias "Abu Rami" were killed in Inabanga, Bohol after they were intercepted by the security forces that also resulted in the death of some security forces and civilians. In the early years of Guru Ara with the ASG, he was involved in the kidnapping of six Jehovah’s Witness members and their Muslim guides in Sulu on Aug. 20, 2002 wherein two of the kidnapped victims were beheaded while other victims were rescued by the security forces in Sulu. Recently, the slain suspect was monitored in Zamboanga City facilitating the recruitment of new members of Dawlah Islamiya and believed to be involved in financing terrorism who acted as financial conduits of ASG. my personal top 100 influential movies

According to my personal extremely logical and not at all arbitrary rules of selection. Not at all chosen for any measure of quality -- I mean, I think a lot of them are genuinely good movies, but that’s not a criteria I’ve used. These are movies that are part of my internal storytelling repertoire -- a scene, a character, a storyline, a concept, whatever. Some I’ve rewatched loads of times, some only a couple. I don’t think all of these movies have very distinctive cinematographies, but a lot of them do. I like genre way, way more than drama. I like stories and I like movies about storytelling (please note: I consider Blade Runner a movie about storytelling so my definition is possibly somewhat broader than most. Stories are what people tell themselves in order to confirm that they are people). Also I like very stylized violence and bantering!

I watch way too many Hollywood & American movies, but, well. I suspect a lot of these definitely date me. Like, guessing my age based on these is probably entirely possible.

In alphabetical order. I could probably easily go to 150 movies, but I gotta stop somewhere. I got to about 50 movies before I had to think about it, so I guess half of this list is set and half is fluctuating.

Bodily-kinesthetic: 8/10 shockingly good for a nerd Linguistic: 8/10 she has a real gift with language  Intra-personal: 6/10 she’s very aware of herself and a lot going on with her but also grapples with denial, depression and dissociation that all make it hard to really check herself. TELEPATHY:  Like her father and older brother, Veronica is an embarrassingly powerful telepath with an exceptional range of effectiveness and capacities.  examples of sub-abilities/applications: Telepathic Illusions, Telepathic Cloak, Mind Links, Telepathic Camouflage, Mind Blasts, Mind Control, Mind Possession, Mind Alteration, Causing Amnesia, Psionic Shield, Psionic Blasts, Astral Projection, Mental Detection, Mind Transferal, Absorb Information AREA OF EXPERTISE: Astral/Mental Space Manipulation. Her ability to create, control, and manipulate places, scenes, settings etc in the astral plane or in the minds of herself or others is fairly ironclad considering her age and entirely thanks to how much time she has spent essentially out of her body. She specializes in mazes. While she wouldn’t be able to keep more experienced and/or powerful telepaths trapped in such a space for long– especially once they realize where they are– the fact she can do it at all is pretty impressive. 

MENTAL

Self-perception: Extremely poor if she ever genuinely considers herself at all. Generally just thinks she’s a massive asshole since well, did help with committing murders.  Assumed external perception: A Mega Bitch  Self-Confidence:  somehow both 0% and 10000000% at the same time.  Rational Or Emotional ? Mostly rational since she’s largely been on autopilot but she’s pretty emotional compared to what people expect from her. Introvert or Extrovert ?  Introvert to the extreme Prefer to Give or to Take ? Take, working on being more of a giver. Nice or Rude ? While she’s not like, usually out here trying to be a bitch she’s very blunt most of the time and it can be EXTREMELY rude.

BACKGROUND

TLDR VERSION

      ►  Veronica is the epitome of an unplanned pregnancy       ►  mother quickly married and passed off Veronica as her husband’s       ►  once Veronica’s telepathy kicked in it was all downhill       ►  2 suicide attempts (12, 14)       ►  enters full blown disassociation and fucks off to the astral plane       ►  at least until a hot mutant guy shows up       ►  fucks up and does a murder with said guy       ►  tries to make him less fucked up with telepathy       ►  makes him more fucked up       ►  reluctantly helps kill at least 2 more people       ►  kills the bf, hides the evidence mindwipes as needed       ►  pings on cerebro since she’s been a busy bitch       ►  ????       ►  PANIC

LONGER

Veronica is completely an accident. She’s simply the product of a short lived rebound relationship where something or someone messed up or forgot something and Oops! Pregnant! Jessica never felt any need or desire to inform Charles since and looking out for numero uno just got back with her usual on again-off again boyfriend Robert Moore, got married pronto and passed off Veronica as his, never telling anyone the truth. Her telepathy began to kick in as she grew up and made her life increasingly more difficult, with aloof parents and no way to cope she became fairly withdrawn and extremely depressed. Eventually she impulsively attempted suicide at 12 by overdosing on sleeping pills at a sleepover, she was taken to the hospital and suffered no real damage from it. Terrified however of getting in trouble she didn’t admit to her struggles with her telepathy, depression or feeling out of control but instead claimed she’d just wanted help falling asleep and misread the label, she actively used her telepathy for the first time helping people buy that line. She attempted it again at 14, again very impulsively, by slashing her wrists, not too long after doing that she realized she didn’t actually want to do that and was taken to the hospital again, this time she didn’t lie or use telepathy and actually got treatment.  Treatment was only ever so effective since she never admitted to the biggest source ( her telepathy ) and none of it could turn it off. Over the years as her struggles increased her propensity to and the intensity of her disassociation did as well. After her last attempt she basically just completely checked out, using her mental powers to essentially move her mind to the Astral Plane, only keeping enough awareness and such to like, feign normalcy and not be in a coma. It did mute her telepathy significantly but also killed off her personality in the corporal.  At 16-17 Jace comes to their school and Veronica is instantly interested because 1. has obvious physical mutations 2. she can’t read his mind well– if at all. The quickly bonded over their mutual mutant status and dislike of school, people etc., but things started to get….red flag-y. She started to see how unhinged and possessive he was not too long before they committed the accidental homicide of her best friend, which she then covered up with her telepathy. Desperate to fix things and not get in trouble Veronica took advantage of a brief chink in his mental defenses and tried to make him less dangerous. Naturally this went horrifically wrong and he became more dangerous – more obsessive about her, more unstable and more bloodthirsty.  Before she fully realized how just much she’d fucked up he’d tricked her into committing at least 2 more murders and covering them up. Eventually it came to a head and she ended up killing him and burning his body in the woods, tinkering with minds as needed to keep things quiet. Of course all this large use of mutant powers in a fairly sort period lit up on Cerebero and welp, here we are today.
