After getting a sound night of sleep I started to feel like being all “oooh, queer Roy makes so much sense! And Jamie x Roy suddenly looks like something that could happen!” was being unfair to Colin and his arc.
Like it was mean and greedy that I wanted a queer story arc with main characters.
Like I should be happy with the nice cookie they handed me and not demand the whole fucking jar.
And that now that Colin finally got his arc, I shouldn’t wish for something to happen that could potentially overshadow him.
What a daring expectation it is to get not one but actually two (or more, I see you Ted x Trent shippers) well developed and fleshed out queer story arcs in mainstream media! (ah, the trauma of growing up in the 80’s & 90’s and being lucky if you got a queer side character that wasn’t the butt of all jokes and / or didn’t die )
Until I realized, that it wouldn’t. That on the other hand, it would be so rewarding for Colin's arc, if he is the one to helps fucking legend Roy Kent and star player Jamie Tartt, two people he admires and respects (like, I'd have to check, but wasn't it Colin who asked Roy if he'd come to the bar with them in 1x3? Was Isaac, but still - like Roy calls him son in the second episode, so there is a connection) to come out of the closet.
Colin deserves so so much to fucking inspire someone, to realise that he IS a strong and capable man, that he matters (especially after he was taken off the starting eleven for Zava) and is influential.
Like, all this talk about him being a chameleon, how he never was the focus of the narrative, how Nate in the whole Holiday Inn Painting thing told him, that he is not someone who inspires, unlike Jamie and Dani, sets this up perfectly
It could also be, that he inspires one or two of the other himbos (like Dani), but it would be way more impactful if he, who always was no more than a background character, is the inspiration for main characters to address their own queerness and come out.
And while it is a great message that straight alpha males can have a soft side, the message, that you can be a dominant alpha male professional footballer AND queer is stronger. Like, Roy’s a legend and while Jamie currently isn’t the best player on the team, he is one of their star players and the narrative made it clear that he is hella talented and a big star to come. So that is another argument for it being them, since we have a whole lot of himbos to hammer the straight guys can be soft too message home.
And it would be a compelling narrative to have Colin, who is at least out to himself and in a relationship, Jamie, who is at best getting comfortable with the thought but not really at a place to actually date someone, and Roy, who — if my assessment is correct — is so deep in the closet it is surprising he hasn’t found Narnia yet.
Also because of the generational gap — though they are technically all Millenials, being a queer Millenial born in the early eighties is a whole different experience than being a mid or late nineties queer Millenial.
So, now we have the WHY, onto my ideas HOW it could play out (that will probably be contradicted by the narrative by tomorrow, but I want it out in the unrealistic case I’m right 🤪)
I picture something like Michael breaking things off in a couple episodes because he is sick of pretending to be the best friend & wingman, and Trent stepping in as a gay mentor (maybe they meet at a gay bar in Amsterdam by chance, Colin slightly panics and that is the moment Trent tells him he already knew but kept it to himself since it is Colin’s decision to talk about it — it is very important to me, that the person who has the agency in regards of his coming out is Colin!) and finally Colin finding the courage to come out to the team.
Now it is nice and good, if the team reacts supportive, but the additional layer of his coming out being the thing that sparks Roy and Jamie to come clean about their feelings?
Chef’s kiss!
There are several ways this could play out (like I have a trizillion ideas how Jamie x Roy could actually work and which role Keeley would play into this and how this could culminate in Roy x Jamie x Keeley endgame), but here is one:
Colin has a speech prepared that he gives in the locker room, everyone listens attentively and then we have a sweet moment with Isaac and the other himbos being supportive.
But!
Roy is making his little upset face, grunts something and storms off the locker room.
Something that visibly upsets Colin, which is why Jamie says he's going to give Roy a piece of his mind and follows him. Of course he’ll find him in the kit room.
Jamie is set to give Roy a sermon about homophobia and how his reaction right now wasn't cool even for an old person.
But Roy is close to tears and Jamie is confused and tries to comfort him, asking what is going on, and that is when Roy kisses him, Jamie’s being a bit surprised at first, but then kisses him back and …
Cue for a shot of Will standing in the corner, looking into the camera like he is in the Office with this “Why am I always in this room at the wrong time?”-face.
And when they get back, Roy asks Colin to come to his office to talk to him privately and then Roy apologizes and explains how Colin’s speech affected him, since he could have never been so brave, but now he is inspired to try to be true to himself.
And Colin is like “OMG I did this.”
And now, that he knows that he is fully accepted by the team as the person he truly is and and someone who does inspire people, he has the confidence to actually show his potential as a player and plays a significant role in Richmond winning the whole thing in the end.
And he uses his moment in the spotlight to come out publicly, since even though this is scary and homophobic fans will give him shit, he has a team and club that has his back and that is the way he can be truly inspiring.
And that is how we get Colin Hughes, most inspiring football player in the whole fucking world. 😌
EDIT:
After 3x6 and Colin stating he doesn't want to be a spokes person, I changed my vision a bit.
So, Colin still inspires Jamie and Roy to come to terms with there feelings/queerness, yadda yadda, and essentially inspires Jamie to come out publicly and take on the mantle as the spokesperson, since this is something that fits him better than Colin, since he is more comfortable being in the limelight and actually likes being the center of attention. Colin would be able to just kiss his fella after a game, but wouldn't have to carry the burden of being the first out player in the Premier League.
Also: It would be such a great ending for Jamie's arc, if Jamie’s legacy, the thing he’ll be remembered for, wouldn’t be being best striker in the Premier League or the world or anything like that, but that he’d been known for unapologetically being his true, best self—something he’d denied himself being for so long because of his dad’s abuse. And wouldn’t that be poetic?

Nora stepped into her grandfather and Stev's house, holding Saera while Hera was right beside her. "Grandfather! Stev!" She called as she walked in. "I"m here to drop Hera off for her playdate with-" She stopped in her tracks, to see none other than Tywin Lannister sitting watching a documentary with Cherub. "Uncle Tywin?" She raised a brow, surprised to see her grandfather's longtime friend, and her best friend Sienna's father sitting with little Cherub. "Nora," Tywin rumbled, looking up at her. "Good to see you, dear." "Good to see you too," She shifted Saera in her arms. She couldn't even remember seeing Tywin sitting watching TV much with Sienna was she was little, it was quite...jarring. She doubts he did with Cersei or Jamie- Seven knows if he did, Cersei might be less bitter. "Don't look so surprised, darling," Tywin read her thoughts. "I'm a man of many parts."
She smirked back at him- she'd always found Tywin hot, maybe it was her raging Daddy issues talking. "So I've heard." She replied when she saw Stev come out of the laundry room. She kissed Hera, and Hera said, "Bye Aunty Nora! Bye Saera!" She kissed her baby sister, who giggled and gave a little wave of her chubby little hand to Stev and Tywin, as Cherub and Hera ran out to play.
TOO CUTE!!
He has been domesticated and we love it !

Attack On Titan: New Dawn
What is it — an American made Adult Swim/Toonami original series that acts as a sequel or continuation of the Attack On Titan anime and is done in the same style or aesthetic of the first two seasons.
PREMISE:
Set three years after the events of "The Final Chapters - Part 2", we at first follow Historia Reiss — or as she now goes by her old identity "Christa Lenz" — as she's currently in hiding with her daughter Ymir away from the Marley and Eldia conflict in a large fictional seaside town off the coast of California.
See, it's revealed that the rest of the world is actually "modern day" where before they've completely ostracized the Marley and Eldia side in horror and disgust but now after the Rumbling caused and led by Eren Yeager, tensions are now higher than ever especially now that Marley and Eldia are now aware of the modern world.
Wanting to give both her child and herself a chance at a normal and decent life away from everything Historia has ever witnessed, the former Queen of the Walls is now among the mundane and trying to make it on her own, doing whatever she can to give the two of them a new life.
But unfortunately, Historia discovers the hard way that she can't run away from her past no matter how hard she tries when a path she takes brings a certain familiar face to her or rather on her trail — Mikasa Ackerman, now a bounty hunter who hunts down criminals on the modern side and even Marleyians and Eldians. On top of that, she now has a new and deadly, almost twisted femme fatale personality that finds herself attracted to Historia like a cat to a mouse.
It's then that Historia is dragged into a fantastical underworld by Mikasa that deals in crime and violence with the two of them developing not only an unlikely relationship but also an unlikely love for each other as they fight against the odds that they're now going up against.
Notes/Details/Trivia:
• Not only will the Funimation dub voice actresses Trina Nishimura and Bryn Apprill reprise their roles as Mikasa and Historia but the voice cast for the new characters are Walton Goggins, Steve Valentine, Jason Statham, Sumalee Montano, Jamie Clayton and Hazel Doupe.
• Obviously from what you read and the piece of fanart from Larkei on top, Mikasa and Historia will become an official romantic couple very, very, very early on. But it will be in an unconventional way with Mikasa forcing and even blackmailing Historia to not only have her stay and hide out but for the two of them to be said couple with the former declaring to the latter "From this moment forward for the rest of your life, you. are. mine!". The source of blackmail is none other than the life of Historia's own daughter.
• The show will push the limit of the TV-MA rating like most Adult Swim shows do (both the good and bad ones) as always this time with grounded and brutal violence that at times is visceral. Examples of this are a character getting stabbed in the armpit, a character finding a jar full of severed tongues, a character getting stabbed in the face and having to pull it out and plenty of zombie-type body horror (which I'll get to) with media such as The Devil's Backbone, Sons Of Anarchy, Boardwalk Empire and Overlord serving as the violence influences. However, the show will also push the limit of sexual content as well — there will be female nudity shown for starters and two examples of what type of content we're talking involves the two leads are when Historia wakes up after first encountering Mikasa fully and thinking or hoping it was some sort of nightmare, to get up and step on something that's warm and sticky.... she looks down and it's cum. Another is that in the next episode, Historia is woken up by something hot and just as sticky that splats on her face and to her shock and horror, it's Mikasa nutting on her face intentionally to wake her up.
• What will also make it stand-out more is that it will go back to its predecessor's horror roots that it had in its first few episodes. But it's in a distinctive new way that ties into the Titan serum — it's a special serum that's origins will be kept ambigious which permanently gives Mikasa and Historia "undead powers" where their bodies can be taken apart and put back together, contort, wounds heal immediately etc.
• Through a couple of references and easter eggs, a retroactive shared universe will be heavily implied to show there's more to the AOT universe.

Hiiii i really like your jar art!! I hope this is ok to ask but are you still into jar and do you take requests? If yes to both plzplz draw this post and i will love you forever <3
Brain is fried from exams so it’s a little rushed but here you go! I added James and Jamie too, for fun. James’ pjs are moon themed, in case it isnt clear.
I’m always open for requests, esp if it’s jade harley or JAR related, but also I have commissions open in case you wanna throw me some cash :]
Also, im glad you enjoy my JARt! I’m surprised there are still jarlings on Tumblr, given how dead the JAR tag is. I hope that the JAR media tag will one day be as populous as it once was, but perhaps a lot calmer and less… crazy in the way that lead to its downfall. But you can check me out on the JAR subreddit if you wanna see more JAR posting from me :] I’m EggySlang over there too

Dr Who: The Web of Fear
I watched the blu-ray version with the reconstructed episode 3 on 13 January 2023. I had watched the surviving material previously as research for my first novel, Lethbridge-Stewart: The Daughters of Earth (Candy Jar Books, 2017). I read the novelisation of the Web of Fear when I was a kid.
This serial begins directly after the previous ended, with our heroes desperately trying to close the TARDIS doors while they are in flight (for want of a better term). Once that’s sorted, the Doctor is keen for more adventure. Jamie and Victoria do go on about the TARDIS being uncontrollable.
We are back in London, in what looks to be a time roughly contemporary to the audience. How thrilling it must have been back in 1968 watching those references to events watched a few months earlier in the Abominable Snowmen, the serial set in Tibet, 1935 with Professor Travers as a young explorer and anthropologist. Only Professor Travers is an old man now, and his daughter, Anne, is working with the British Army to deal with the Yeti robots and a fungus in the tunnels below London… There is a distinct Quatermass vibe to the Travers x 2 and soldiers in the underground scenes.
Also to emerge from the underground is Colonel Lethbridge-Stewart of the Scots Guard. He immediately warms to the Doctor and believes him about the TARDIS, deals with the incidents in a straightforward manner, even if he’s not wholly successful. It’s not really surprising that we’ll get to see more of him shortly…
Writers Mervyn Haisman and Henry Lincoln evidently didn’t like the news media much. Edward Travers spits about them in Tibet when he mistakes our heroes for trying to scoop his discoveries, and Chorley in the Web of Fear is a truly vile character.
All up, it’s a great tale that sustains interest over six episodes. I like how it continues what we saw three serials earlier, without repeating much, and yet also didn’t reinvent the adversary beyond recognition.
(I haven’t wanted to discuss the animated reconstructions too much because animations aren’t really my thing. I am immensely grateful for the teams to have spent the effort to make them because I find them easier to watch than the telesnap reconstructions — they, too, are fantastic to have, and I admire the work put into creating them — but episode 3 of this serial didn’t really work for me. The people weaving about like drunk Sims disconcerted my autistic brain, and the Doctor was more Matt Smith than Patrick Troughton in facial expression and body language.)

'Many people are probably going to be really surprised by what director Andrew Haigh’s “All of Us Strangers” turns out to be. Though the film has already captured social media attention due to star Paul Mescal’s existence as one of the internet’s perennial crushes (or “babygirls”), filmgoers expecting a by-the-numbers romantic drama should be warned: “All of Us Strangers” is much weirder than that.
And it’s difficult to discuss without mildly spoiling certain elements, so head’s up! “All of Us Strangers” hits U.S. theaters Dec. 22.
“All of Us Strangers,” based on Taichi Yamada’s 1987 novel “Strangers,” follows solitary Londoner Adam (Andrew Scott), who’s currently re-grieving the loss of his parents 30 years earlier. Adam’s been taking trips back to his childhood home, where he finds his mother (Claire Foy) and father (Jamie Bell) — seemingly still around and just as they were back in the 1980s.
This complicated familial development becomes further complex when Adam meets handsome and charming neighbor Harry (Mescal) and a promising relationship begins. But will Adam’s mysterious connection to the past jeopardize the possibility of a happy life in the present?
Fans of Haigh’s previous work, which includes 2011’s newfound-love heartbreaker “Weekend” and the complicated senior-relationship drama “45 Years,” will recognize the director’s voyeuristic intimacy in “All of Us Strangers” — but they’ll also be surprised by some interesting stylistic choices.
As the film progresses, and the borders between what’s real and what’s not begin to blur, Haigh experiments with some jarring — maybe even scary — expressionism. As Adam’s reality becomes more and more amorphous, so too does Haigh’s direction.
And though the film finds Haigh experimenting with a non-linear and less straightforward narrative, the movie’s emotional core will help moor some viewers who may feel frustrated halfway through.
The central romance between Scott and Mescal’s characters is believable and charming. Scott’s tentative and reserved performance is complimented by the lightning rod of charisma that is Mescal. This is a grownup new romance: It’s not characterized by butterflies in the belly or musical montages but by uncertainty and the ghosts of past disappointments. Both men bring complicated histories to the relationship and many viewers will find this realistic adult gay relationship on screen refreshing. With many recent LGBTQ+ romance films leaning toward adolescent romantic comedy, “All of Us Strangers” is a welcome reminder that new love happens for people in their 30s and 40s, too.
While the film is a love story at heart, that shouldn’t imply that the two leads’ romance is the only type of love on display.
As Adam’s stuck-in-the-1980s parents, Foy (“The Crown”) and Bell (“Rocketman”) share some of the film’s most delicate and touching moments, as Adam’s long-estranged parents get to know their son as a grown man. Without spoiling too much, a particular dialogue between Bell and Scott will hit close for many LGBTQ+ viewers, as Adam’s straight father learns his son is an out gay man. It’s a wrenching moment between father and son, as Bell laments the father he wishes he had been and Scott laments the father he didn’t get to have.
Meanwhile, Foy’s character (neither Foy or Bell’s characters have names, aside from being “Adam’s mother” and “Adam’s father”), is tasked with one of the film’s more complicated bits, as Adam tells his mother why he doesn’t have a girlfriend.
It’s an expert piece of acting from Foy, who receives the news from the lens of a woman still stuck in the 1980s, when the AIDS epidemic decimated gay populations worldwide. Here, Foy balances disapproval, concern and resignation all at once. It’s a tricky scene for Foy to pull off without viewers coming out hating the character and yet, Foy expertly carries the scene’s weight with enough care that you, like Adam, are willing to meet her where she is.
Without further spoiling, “All of Us Strangers” culminates with a shattering but beautiful turn guaranteed to leave most people who have experienced some sort of love — or some sort of loss — with a lump in their throat.
Earlier this week, Scott received a Best Performance in a Motion Picture – Drama for his performance. Additionally, “All of Us Strangers” received several British Independent Film Awards, including Best British Independent Film, Best Director and Best Screenplay. Jamie D. Ramsay’s grainy, nearly tactile cinematography and Jonathan Albert’s slick editing were also awarded.
Ahead of its limited U.S. release, “All of Us Strangers” holds a 98% Tomatometer score across 83 critical reviews logged on Rotten Tomatoes. The R-rated film has a runtime of 1 hour and 45 minutes.

ranking all movies in the halloween franchise
despite being a jamie lee curtis fan, i've never managed to watch any of the halloween movies so i thought i'd rectify that this spooky season. ratings taken from the letterboxd system just bc it's easier, and general disclaimer that these are just my own personal opinions, posted here just for posterity, y'all will like what u like and i will do the same.
HALLOWEEN I (1978) 2.5/5 STARS
look, i understand why it's a cult classic but it was a bit too slow for me and very painfully 70s. michael wasn't terrifying so much as he was a creepy stalker. really only liked laurie and dr. loomis out of all the characters.
HALLOWEEN II (1981) 3.5/5 STARS
this, i liked much better than H1, which i know is sacrilegious but it was def. more my speed in term of slashers. i didn't like the family connection that this movie forced on us, but it is what it is.
HALLOWEEN III: SEASON OF THE WITCH (1982) 1/5 STARS
i get what they were trying to do, and i respect the vision of trying to make a horror anthology around the halloween holiday but...this was such a bad movie. it didn't make sense most of the time; i'm still salty about the ending; i didn't like any of the characters and for some reason they had to include ROBOTS. like WHYYYY and it wasn't terminator robots, the coolest of the robots in media, it was robots made of papier-mâché who folded as soon as u looked at them wrong. overall, such a hot mess of garbage. (but i love the title, i guess?? and the Irish villain brought a certain gravitas to this movie that was both jarring and fun.)
HALLOWEEN IV: RETURN OF MICHAEL MYERS (1988) 4.5/5 STARS
genuinely the first entry in this franchise to scare me (maybe because the protagonist was a young child??) i did like that we got dr. loomis back tho. loved rachel's character and her and jamie's interactions. but this was so trauma-filled and again more horrifying for me than all three of the previous movies. very exciting slasher.
HALLOWEEN V: THE REVENGE OF MICHAEL MYERS (1989) 2.5/5 STARS
another garbage entry mostly for how horribly they treat poor jamie for the vast majority of this film, assassinated dr. loomis' character, and then killed off rachel, only to replace her with her friend, tina. i also hated the whole cult plot line, which starts here, and is as dumb as making michael and laurie brother and sister. and the vast majority of these characters are so dumb, and i'm so dumbfounded that they've lasted as long as they have in a horror film. this movie asks u to suspend your disbelief to the breaking point.
HALLOWEEN VI: THE CURSE OF MICHAEL MYERS (1995) 1.5/5 STARS
this movie, i swear i thought i couldn't hate a movie as much as i hated H3 and H5, but then this movie came along and PROVED ME WRONG. like, noooope, we're here to make an even worse movie!! i gave this one a whole 1.5 rating simply for paul rudd (yes, that paul rudd, he was the only thing keeping me sane while watching this shit show.) WHY DID JAMIE HAVE TO BE PREGNANT???!! WHY DID THE CULT HAVE TO HAVE HER AND HER CHILD???!! HAS THIS CHILD NOT SUFFERED ENOUGH??? the cult of thorn plot line is meh, whatever for me, i can take it or leave it, but i'm just so mad at jamie's death and subsequent trauma from everything she had to go through. every single character annoyed me (except for paul rudd and donald pleasence, who prove that good actors can polish a turd only so far...)
everyone was dumb, the whole town of haddonfield was dumb, and i was dumb for watching this...
(i know there's a producers' cut too, but i cannot find it and at this point i don't even care to bc i just want to burn watching this movie from my memory...)
HALLOWEEN VII: H20 TWENTY YEARS LATER (1998) 4.5/5 STARS
(i know they don't title this as H7, but i do just bc i want to and it is technically the seventh film so i'm gonna do what i want)
i appreciate the blank slate this movie starts out with (no cult of thorn, no jamie lloyd, but no dr. loomis either unfortunately).
is this a masterpiece?? no, but i had fun, and it made me terrified during certain scenes so i thought the tension was great. and the laurie/michael standoff at the end was superb. i do think this movie has some deep things to say about trauma, so i liked that too. no one annoyed me too greatly, and i am def. mad they didn't end this whole franchise with this movie since i think it was a pretty satisfying ending overall.
HALLOWEEN VIII: RESURRECTION (2002) 0.5/5 stars
JUST WHYYYYY. another garbage movie. this movie irked me so much. it tried to say some deep stuff about fiction and reality, but the writing was so bad, i couldn't take it seriously. not one of the characters were worth rooting for; they were vapid and shallow (even our final girl ends up being saved at the last minute by the greedy capitalist who put her in this situation in the first place). laurie's death was so dumb, there was no connection to H20 (i know i would've still hated this movie even if they did connect the two films beyond just recapping that laurie killed the wrong guy in H20 and that she was headmistress of a private academy).
HALLOWEEN IX (2007) AKA ROB ZOMBIE'S HALLOWEEN 0.5/5 STARS
is this the worst movie in the franchise?? not by a long shot. is it also the worst remake in the history of remakes? no, but it should be in the top twenty at least. this remake was very much not for me. rob zombie is beloved, and i can understand if this becomes a cult classic (if it hasn't already just because of the originality), but it was just very meh to me.
humanizing michael ain't it either. (i will say the mask in this was way more terrifying than any of the previous ones so points for that.)
i tried going in with an open mind, i really did, but i hated malcolm mcdowell's dr. loomis. i am and shall forever be a donald pleasence fangirl. dr. loomis is supposed to be michael's foil, and a character that you can root for. but mcdowell's loomis went far past the rooting for & liking stage, and well into narcissistic ahole stage.
it's def. the anti-Carpenter Halloween in terms of pacing, profanity, violence, and brutality, and, again some might like that, but i found it's definitely not for me. and am firmly in the camp that this movie is waaaayyy too over-the-top in terms of everything.
HALLOWEEN X (2009 AKA ROB ZOMBIE'S HALLOWEEN II) 1.5/5 STARS
i will admit i like this one far better than the '07 version just bc of the way the whole film handles trauma, PTSD, healing, and all those aspects, but rob zombie and i still do not vibe. and that's okay.
i...i do not know what they did with dr. loomis character, and am baffled he suddenly did a 180 and became a narcissistic asshole for no reason at all (well, there were traces of it in H1 where malcolm mcdowell played him as this hipster wanna-be doctor who wanted to be michael's friend more than he wanted to be his doctor). it honestly felt like Hollywood's interpretation of what a psychiatrist was, if they had never met a psychiatrist in their life and just based it on businesspeople they had *actually* met in Hollywood and were like "well, close enough."
my biggest gripe with this movie is that it felt like it was all over the place; michael wasn't really michael so much as he was a mentally ill dude who knew how to eviscerate people in an efficient manner. it was jut really bleak, traumatic, brutal, and gory. laurie survived, but mostly physically, not really emotionally. she wasn't really laurie any more, so it's debatable to what extent she "survived".
HALLOWEEN XI (2018) 5/5 STARS
I FUCKING LOVED THIS i just did. i'm not sorry. this??? so fucking fantastic.
i still maintain jamie lee curtis is the best thing about these movies (and...i guess michael myers too. but, again, i'm a scaredy-cat, so the less thought about that asshole the better.) and i love when they have her be a powerful badass. i am firmly Team Laurie and always will be (and now Team Karen/Allyson/Laurie too).
(the kills here were also brutal and gory, and gahhh, i am not a fan of gore, but the story kept me interested and on the edge of my seat.)
HALLOWEEN KILLS (AKA HALLOWEEN XII) (2021) 3/5 STARS
...meh. i didn't love this, but i didn't hate it either. it's just very underwhelming after the brilliance that was the 2018 remake.
is this technically a good film?? yeah, it was filmed fine, nothing too spectacular tho. but the writing is a mess, felt like the writers couldn't write themselves out of the awesome ending they produced in 2018. but really. they should've ended this whole franchise with the 2018 remake, so that way at least the franchise would've ended with a bang (i know i have halloween ends to watch too, but am not hopeful about that entry either...)
the nicest thing i can say about this sequel is it's not a stinkin' pile of garbage as some other movies in this franchise. too silly and cringe in certain parts, and the pacing was off (certain characters whom i thought would've been killed off as soon as we saw them on-screen weren't killed off until scenes later, which i thought didn't work for a slasher film like Halloween).
we also focus way too much on supporting characters that were introduced just last film, and while i like what others are calling the "fan-service-y" parts, like all the callbacks to previous Halloween films, and having a focus on tommy, marion, and lindsey, the film was trying to do too much by focusing both on legacy characters AND the new characters. also, imho, laurie is sidelined for most of the action, and while that meant that the other two strode women were being badass by themselves, i think the halloween movies work much better when it's just laurie vs. michael, instead of haddonfield vs. michael bc most of the characters of haddonfield and haddonfield itself aren't developed as much as laurie, so we don't care as much, or at least i don't bc i know michael is going to murder them eventually, if not right away, but with laurie, there's some hope that she will emerge victorious.
HALLOWEEN ENDS (AKA HALLOWEEN XIII) (2022) 2.5/5 STARS
i'll be honest: i don't actually hate the whole corey storyline. i went into this not expecting much because i knew nothing could surpass the 2018 remake for me, and i think that mindset helped a lot. was the corey character and storyline stupid?? sure, but not as dumb as the Cult of Thorn storyline they tried to foist on us. anyway, at the end of the day i'm just here to stan laurie strode, and be her hype girl.
again, just...meh for me. there was so much melodrama in this movie when this should've just been a fun slasher movie, but i guess the film felt it had to explore how much trauma all these characters had and never actually properly dealt with it (seriously, all these characters were so mean and bitter to each other, and i get it when u had a crazed psychopath stalking a town for years, no one will feel all that warm and fuzzy to begin with).
also, still very salty about karen's death from the last film. #justiceforkaren
