A day late on our Throwback this week… Oedipus the Tyrant, ‘11
Beyond Mr. Krieger’s fine work, the only other full length original production the Porters have taken on was Dr. Jamey Hecht’s original translation of Oedipus the Tyrant. Hecht is a Resident Artist in our company, and an excellent actor in his own right. After many years of trying to find a place for it, we finally took it on in 2011. The show was a wonderful success, garnering us our first full feature in LA Weekly along with their GO! recommendation, among many other accolades.
At the heart of the production’s success were two critical factors: firstly, Jamey’s magnificent translation. Secondly, a tight-knit and devoted ensemble, who braved a very rocky rehearsal and production process. This was one of the shows where a lot of things went wrong… and when we came out the other side with a vibrant and moving production, we had grown in important ways as a company.
In addition, many members of that incredible ensemble can be seen right now in our currently running BREAKING BARD! Two very different shows, but similar in their magnificent casts. It’s selling fast!
Shown above:
