YN’s jaw goes slack in a yawn as she knuckles over her eyes. Her bare feet pat softly against the hardwood floor of the hallway and she has to keep in mind to be quiet on some level as she passes the rooms where the rest of the production crew sleeps. The moonlight that peaks through the multitude of windows throughout the house act as her guide.
It’s been a few days since the team has arrived in Jamaica and so far, it’s been both a relaxing and exciting experience for everyone. With a day full of writing and continuing to get more and more hands-on experience producing, the team was able to get another song down and didn’t go to sleep until the early hours of the morning. Unable to fall asleep herself, however, she finds herself out of bed in search of a late-night snack. She stretches her arms above her head before letting them fall down to her sides.
When she faces the kitchen, her feet come to a stop when she sees a semi-bright light that shines over a small section of the room. Harry stands in front of the open refrigerator, his forearm rests on top of the door while his body bends over to look inside. His torso is bare and the muscles on his back push and pull as he goes to grab something. His sleep shorts hang low on his hips and when he looks over his shoulder at her, his hand to his mouth as he bites down on something.
Is that a strawberry?
Harry takes in the sight of her: an oversized band t-shirt she’s had since their time in the band that has holes scattered around the fabric and slipping off her shoulder every now and then. Her pj shorts are barely visible from underneath the huge shirt and her hair is a bit tousled from her attempt to fall asleep. He smiles at her as he finishes what’s in his mouth, “Good morning, darling.”
Ignoring how nice and raspy his voice sounds, she smiles back at him and shuffles her feet over to him to lean her forehead in the middle of his chest. When she feels his arms around her shoulders, letting out a hum at the warmth he gives off, she thinks back to the time when she couldn’t stand physical affection. She felt claustrophobic if someone were to wrap themselves around her; even with her ex, it still felt off to be held or hold his hand. She knew she was in trouble when she found herself naturally gravitating towards Harry’s body for a cuddle or missed the warmth of his hand on her back rather than anybody else’s.
“Morning,” She says as she snuggles deeper into his chest.
“Couldn’t sleep?”
She shakes her head side to side, still pressed to him, “You?”
He hums out a no before he says, “Want a strawberry?”
She lifts her head so her chin rests in the middle of his chest. She silently parts her lips and he places the half-eaten strawberry to her mouth. The tips of Harry’s finger hold onto the green leaves of the fruit as she takes a bite. He pulls it away and finishes off the rest of the strawberry before throwing the end leaves into the sink beside them.
Knowing that there wasn’t a chance of going back to sleep any time soon, the two friends situate themselves on the kitchen floor, their backs to the kitchen island with their legs splayed out in front of them and the refrigerator door open. As they chat, they’ll both occasionally grab at the cut pieces of fruit in the bowl between them.
“I’ve been thinking about you a lot lately.”
Harry discreetly cringes to himself at his words. As comfortable as he is to talk about literally anything with her, he has to catch himself before he says anything stupid—meaning, not accidentally telling her that he’s head over heels in love with her.
“Yeah? All good things, I hope.”
“Oh no, just the bad stuff,” He says sarcastically.
“Shit, I knew it.” Harry chuckles when she playfully throws a grape at his chest with a smile.
“No, I could never. There’s nothing horrible about you, lovie.” Despite his better judgment, he lets the words of affection slip from his mouth. “You’re perfect.”
YN scoffs with a roll of her eyes. “Don't say that,” she says around a mouthful of a slice of orange.
“But it’s true. You’re beautiful, YN.”
“That’s a bit hard to believe,” Before he can swallow the grape and protest, she beats him to it. “Come on, H. M’nothing like the girls you’ve been attracted to in the past. With their perfectly blue eyes and scarlet red lips,” YN says with a dramatic, playful flutter of her eyes before twisting at a cherry stem between her fingers.
Harry furrows his brows as he processes her words, “Okay but, was that ever really me?”
“What do yeh mean?” she asks with a tilt of her head.
And oh how he wishes he could explain himself to her. Throughout their time in the band, it’s been a known fact that their management teams have been trying to force a certain persona on each of the band members. For Harry, he was labeled as a womanizer: a bad boy who's never done anything bad. Time and time again, their teams had set him up with fake blonde models who were only into him for his name, looks and nothing more. And after each time, he would find himself going back to her.
He’ll take her natural hair color and texture over the girls who fry their hair to achieve a fake-blonde look. He’ll take her bare face over any of the women with too much contour and red lipstick any day. He’ll take her natural plushy hips and chest without it having been done through the work of a doctor. He’d rather be with YN. He meant what he said, she’s perfect. Even her imperfections are perfect.
How he wishes he can tell her all of this but his tongue trips over itself. How can he even collectively get his words together when she’s patiently waiting for him to speak with her soft smile and her eyes that sparkle from the refrigerator’s white fluorescent light.
Harry smiles down at his lap, “Y’know, my mum thinks we’re dating.”
He’s changing the subject. She decides not to call him out on it and just smirks at his statement.
“M’not surprised.” When he gives her an amused look, she continues with a lazy shrug of her shoulder. “Me mum's the same way.”
It’s no secret that their mums have been secretly-not-so-secretly rooting for them to get together the second they saw the kind of chemistry their kids began to show during their time in the X-Factor. The two women don’t push their wishes on them though, merely watching from the sidelines waiting for them to realize it for themselves.
A giggle tumbles past YN’s lips as it easily puts a dimpled smile on his face. “Do you remember that one time when we were on our, what? Third tour and we did that waltz dance thing on the B-Stage?”
Of course he remembers. The band was doing the segment of the show where they answered fan-sent questions. Most of them were dares and this one in particular asked the band to show off their ballroom skills. When none of the other boys wanted to be her dance partner, Harry honorably stepped up with an out-reach of his hand.
“The time when you clumsily fell on me and we landed on the floor?”
“No, no. You fell on me,” YN points out with emphasis, her laughter like music to his ears.
“Same thing.”
“It is not the same thing.”
“Where were you going with this again?” He asks with a humored look, plopping a blueberry past his lips.
“Our mums were at that show.” Harry tucks his chin down to his chest as his shoulders shake with a chuckle as he knows exactly where she’s going with this. “And they wouldn’t shut up about it afterwards in the green room, remember? Penny just kept going on and on about how that was gonna be us dancing at our wedding or some shit.”
“My mum was already telling me about taking some dance lessons so I wouldn’t trip up like we did on stage.”
YN squeezes her eyes shut, one hand over her mouth to muffle her laughter while the other one grips onto Harry’s wrist. The creases beside his eyes appear as his own chuckles rumble from his chest. After they’ve calmed down, Harry lets out a happy sigh at the memory.
“Yeah...Richard had a field day with that one.”
As soon as the words come out of his mouth, he instantly regrets it by the sad look that comes over YN. Her once giggling shoulders slow down to a slump, her cheeky smile fades into a somber one and her bright eyes dim down to her lap.
Bringing up their old management team has become a sensitive topic for YN. These people who took her freedom away, tried silencing her voice just because she was a woman, and forced a different persona on her for the sake of fame sit in the darkest parts of her mind.
Even for something as silly as the two of them dancing together on stage had their management representative give them a good scolding. Richard went on a rampage, yelling at YN for her improper behavior, for putting her hands on Harry in that way. He scolded her for being so clumsy and that she made them fall on purpose just to get physically close with her band mate.
It broke Harry’s heart to see YN keep her mouth shut, knowing that she would bite back if she could. He saw the way she had her hands clasped together in front of her, occasionally flinching back at Dick’s spitting words.
And when Harry tried sticking up for her, he was told off for even offering himself to YN, that he should have known better. That supposed little “stunt” that they pulled had cost their solos to be removed from the new song they were working on for the next album.
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have brought that up—”
“Don't be.” She says sincerely, licking her lips and keeping her gaze away from her best friend.
Call it a curse or a superpower, but he sees the way her mind begins to race. She’s been good at hiding it, but he can read her like an open book.
“Tell me what you’re thinking,” He tells her softly.
Knowing she can’t hide from him, she lets out a deep sigh, “I just felt so trapped sometimes, you know? They’ve just always dictated our lives in everything. What we wear, what we say,” Who we can be with. “And for what? More money in there’s fookin’ pockets? You know, there were just times in my life where I didn’t even feel...alive.”
“Do you still feel that way?”
“Some times more than usual,” She surprises herself as she answers his question truthfully. She didn’t expect to be talking about this tonight or ever with anyone, really. But she’s glad it’s Harry.
“One day I’ll tell you everything,” She thinks to herself.
“But do you know when are the times that I don’t feel that way?”
“When?”
“When I’m with you.”
“Shut up,” He looks away from her with a bashful smile on his face. Even from the small light coming through the kitchen, she can still see the pink coming onto his cheeks.
“It’s true. It sounds cheesy as hell but it’s like I feel the weight of the world around me being lifted or something. It’s like I can finally breathe. Like, I remember that one day on the yacht last year. We were sitting on the front of the boat and we didn’t really talk or anything but we were just...I don’t know. It’s kinda stupid. I think you were asleep or something so I don’t think you remember—”
“You wore that green bathing suit and the sun was just setting so the sky was kind of orange,” When YN turns her head to look at Harry, he’s already staring back. “I remember looking at you then. You were sitting up and had your eyes closed. You were crying.” She doesn't flinch when he brings his hand to her cheek and wipes away her tears with his thumb. YN didn’t even realize she was crying until now. “But when you opened your eyes, you took a deep breath and you... you just looked so in-the-moment. You looked free, YN.”
She closes her eyes and lets the tears silently stream down her face. Harry’s forehead touches hers.
“This was all I used to need,” She whispers in the space between them. Her words pluck a chord in his heart. He’s felt the same feeling more and more lately. He knows that they’re both incredibly grateful for the success they’ve had with their careers so far. They were able to start so young, provide for their family, and do what they love to do every single night for crowds of devoted fans.
But there’s a longing for the silence.
She can be in a room full of fans and press and their team, but she can still feel like the loneliest person in the world. Having each other to lean on, having someone to go to when the darkest parts of themselves want to consume them is more than all the happiness that this measly world can provide.
“I know. I feel it, too.” Harry whispers in the small space between them, reaching up to thumb away at a tear on the supple skin of her cheek. “I was just thinking about how much we haven’t spoken to each other in a while before this.”
“It had only been a few weeks,” YN pulls back a bit and smiles. She wipes her eyes with the front of her worn-out shirt. “And we’ve been texting during that time anyways.”
“Still. S’not enough.”
She softly laughs at Harry’s teasing. He puts an arm around her shoulders and pulls her to his chest. As much as the band’s hiatus was needed, there’s no denying the fact that the separation was hard—especially for these two. How can one normally carry on through life when the person you see, talk to, and laugh with everyday goes away?
They sit in comfortable silence for a little bit longer, staying embraced by one another before YN speaks up.
“I love you, Harry.” Her words make his body tense up and he tries not to let it show too much. She lifts her head from his shoulder and one little dip of his head can connect their lips. His eyes search hers, trying to find if she meant her words in the same way he does. He sees her eyes flicker down to his lips before she takes a deep breath. “No one knows me like you do. I feel safe with you. I...I feel alive with you.”
When he nods his head in agreement, his nose brushes alongside hers, “I feel everything with you.”
“I meant what I said,” She can get lost in his green eyes, looking at her with that same feeling she feels in the pit of her stomach. The same feeling she first felt as a teenager whenever he was around her. The feeling she would get despite being engaged to someone else. She meant those three words, but now that they’re not under the watchful eye of their old management team, the feeling terrifies her even more. “You’re my best friend, Harry.”
And there it is.
During their time in the band, there was no question that the two were able to get on another level of closeness that they knew each other like the back of their hands. Reading each other from across the room became second nature. Maybe the separation has made Harry lose his touch. Maybe those three words don’t share the same meaning they do for him.
“And you mine,” He reciprocates truthfully.
Without another word, YN shuffles herself to lay her head down on his lap. He brushes his fingers over her scalp, gently pushing her hair behind her ear. Once he sees that her eyes are closed and hears her breathing has evened out, he whispers her words back to her unknowing they hold her true meaning behind them.
“I love you, YN.”
...
Anytime you’re doing anything different, it’s quite scary. I didn’t know what I wanted it to sound like, I didn’t know what I wanted it to look like,” Harry explains the initial feelings he had when making his album. “But it was nice to have someone there who you’re familiar with and, and sort of turn to them when you feel a bit uneasy.”
The next morning, YN plops down on the chair next to Harry at the dining table where he finds him scribbling away in his brown leather journal, “Hey.”
“Hi,” he answers, his eyes still glued to the pen on the paper.
“Anything good?” YN nods to his notebook.
“Maybe, actually.” He shifts his body to face her. “It kind of just wrote itself to be honest.”
A soft smile tugs itself on her lips as she leans her elbow on the table to rest her temple on her fist, “The best ones always do.”
“Kind of wanted to let the work do the talking a little bit. I mean, definitely part of my ego wanted to see if I could write something that people liked without people knowing everything about me.”
Harry slides over the journal for her to read, “What we spoke about last night really stuck with me.”
That infamous crease in her brows appears on her face as she reads his scribbled handwriting and Harry wants nothing more than to smooth over the skin with his thumb or a gentle press of his lips.
We're just two ghosts standing in the place of you and me
Trying to remember how it feels to have a heartbeat.
“I didn’t mean to overstep by writing something personal about you. It was just an idea and a melody for it was stuck in my head all morning.”
“No, don't apologize. This sounds good. Really good, actually. You took what I feel kind of pathetic about and made it sound poetic. It’s beautifully written, Harry.” She lets out a laugh and slides Harry back his journal. “M’kind of jealous that I didn’t write something for myself like this.”
“Well, it can be our song then,” Harry rubs his index finger under his nose, a nervous habit that he hopes will go unnoticed by her; it doesn’t. “I mean, I still need to work out the guitar bits and stuff.”
Instead of calling him out and teasing him just to see the pink tint hit his cheeks, she reaches over the table and lifts the acoustic guitar onto her lap, “That can be arranged.”
Not long after, the team is scattered around the room as they watch the two former band members create music together.
We're not who we used to be
We don't see what we used to see
Their voices blend together beautifully, naturally falling into a harmony. YN’s fingers press on the wired strings as she strums with her other hand.
Mitch watches from his seat on the opposite side of the table, his eyes flickering back and forth between the pair. Harry wasn’t kidding when he said that YN is a skilled guitarist; she’s making beautiful melodies with it without even trying.
More importantly, he sees the way they look at each other. As YN adlibs a vocalized melody, a smile etches on her face as Harry looks at her. His dimples dig into his cheeks and the tiniest hint of pink paints the apples of his cheeks.
Mitch may not know a lot about these two, but it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see their shared chemistry.

My Boss Won't Be Happy About This - A.H
a/n: back to bimbo brain rot!!!! inspired by the first season that one episode (you know the one) where hotch is all macho man with elle in jamaica
masterlist
₊˚ ✩°。⋆♡ ⋆˙⟡♡ ⋆˙⟡♡⋆。°✩˚₊‧
pairings: aaron hotchner x bimbo!assistant!reader
summary: you’re wrongfully arrested and hotch is not happy about it
warnings: creepy officer, inaccuracies of how law enforcement works, hotch being sexy
wc: 1.3k
"Listen I'm not the type of girl to tell someone how to do their job, but I just don't think you're doing it right."
You were speaking to an empty room, or at least, you were speaking to the mirror in front of you. It's the kind of mirror you had seen in countless interrogation scenes, the kind you usually image Hotch standing behind. You let your gaze linger, wondering if eyes are studying you from the other side, listening to your monologue.
"Well, that, and I also just don't think it's very nice." Your brand spanking new heels were tapping against the dirty floor.
You weren't happy about that. You weren't happy about any of this. Your feet ache, but the fear of the germs lurking on the floor paralyzes any thoughts of relief by removing your shoes.
"And hey, shouldn't I get a phone call? That's a rule, I think," you mumble, lips turning downward in an unusual frown. It seems like the right time for it. "My boss is not going to take this well. I mean, he's got this look, you know? The kind that makes you want to apologize for things you didn't even do."
You conjured up his daunting expression and released a jittery laugh, all while striving to disregard the biting cold blasting from the AC vent, which seemed determine to freeze you into place.
You were seriously out of your element, not just in surroundings but in dress--so form-fitting it left very little to the imagination. It seemed to be a good idea for a date. That was before you realized said date would be a complete disaster. Now, it felt like a trap. It had been a spectacle for a man unworthy of the effort, and as you sat in this rigid chair, you found yourself tugging at the hem every other moment, a futile attempt to preserve some semblance of modesty.
"So, when he hears about this little error... Well, let's just say I wouldn't want to be in your shoes." Six hours had passed in this dreary space, and you could feel your sanity fraying at the edges. You muttered, half to yourself, "Not that they're as cute as mine, but you get the point."
The door hinge's creak made you sit bolt upright, a silent supplication for Hotch's rescue echoing through your mind. But today, it seemed, the gods were indifferent. The officer who had arrested you stepped in.
"Having fun talking to yourself?"
You flashed your sweetest smile. "Oh, tons! But I'd have much more fun if you'd uncuff me."
He said nothing, folding his arms over his chest as he dragged his gaze up and down your body in a way that made your skin prickle in discomfort. You attempted to dispel the creeping dread, but it stubbornly lingered.
You did what you could to cover up, despite the awkward angle of your arms. "Listen, this is all just a big mistake. I work for the FBI," you insisted, though it was clear the officer's attention was fixated on your tits rather than your words. "Well, I mean, I'm an assistant for the unit chief of the BAU unit. You've heard of Aaron Hotchner, haven't you?"
The officer's mouth closed without a word, as the door was thrust open yet again, and this time, your heart leapt in recognition. Your knight in shining armor with a lethal expression.
His eyes instantly zeroed in on the officer with a look that could curdle blood, and you couldn't help but feel a sense of relief that you weren't the object of his anger. He approached you wordlessly, his every motion precise and determined.
He carefully shed his jacket, a gesture he seldom made, and draped it across your shoulders. The fleeting caress of his hand against your skin was enough to make you lean into his touch. You let out a breath that you had been unconsciously holding back.
You watched as Hotch turned, his voice a low, steady force, his words carefully chosen and tinged with an unsettling peace. "Officer," he began, the title spoken almost as warning. "I believe there has been a grave misunderstanding. This woman is not only an esteemed member of the FBI, but she is also under my direct supervision."
He stepped closer, encroaching on the officer's personal space. You watched, almost in slow motion, as the officer's expression morphed into one of sheer terror, his earlier confidence dissolving like sugar in hot tea.
"Six hours," he continued, his voice never rising yet somehow it took up all the space in the confined room. "Six hours of unwarranted detention, without due process. I expect her immediate release. And make no mistake, this lapse in judgment will have its ramifications."
The officer was mute, his fingers clumsily unlocking the handcuffs, his movements hurried, his hands trembling. A twinge of pity flickered within you, but it was quickly overshadowed by the memory of considering the table as a makeshift blanket.
The moment the metal clicked open; you wasted no time. You flung your arms around Hotch, the pent relief and biting chill of the past few hours pouring out of you. You were desperate for warmth, specifically his warmth.
He stiffened, caught off guard by your actions. You feel the anger radiating through him, practically pulsing through his skin. As you clung to him, you felt the draft on your legs as your dress slid up, and without missing a beat Hotch's hand discreetly adjusted the fabric, all while keeping his eyes locked on the officer, a silent warning in his gaze.
Once he was certain you were decently covered, he allowed himself to draw him into his arms. One arm secured around your waist, the other weaving through your hair. You were cold. It renewed another tide of rage through his bloodstream.
With the officer's departure, the room's oppressive atmosphere lightened a touch, leaving you still latched onto your boss.
"Oh, sir, you wouldn't believe it," you started, his hands tracing up your spine and sparking a trail of goosebumps that had nothing to do with the chill. "They kept asking me about a heist, as if I'd know anything about that! And then they show me this picture, and I mean, sure, she had my hair, but that's about it."
You rambled on, and he let you, the absurdity of the situation pouring out in a stream of consciousness. Hotch's hold on you tightened. You could sense the coiled tension in him, a tempest of anger held a bay.
"And the room, it was so cold! I mean, I'm sure you can tell. My teeth were chattering, and all I could think of was how I'd rather be filing your paperwork or listening to Reid's factoids about the quantum mechanics of coffee beans."
You felt Hotch's breath on your hair as he let out a sigh.
"I'm just glad you're here now," you whispered, finally allowing yourself to relax in his embrace.
Hotch gave a curt nod, his jaw set. He was itching to confront the officer, to unleash a tirade not meant for your ears. But he was well aware of how much you needed him right now, and that trumped everything in his book.
Hotch took a moment to compose himself before speaking. "This isn't just incompetence; it's negligence. I will have this place reevaluated for its standards, or lack thereof."
You took a step back, hands still resting on his arms, and he maintained his grip on your waist. "I bet this is the last time you'll let me go on a date without a full background check on the guy, huh, sir?"
Hotch's hold on your waist firmed just a fraction. "Maybe it's the last time I let you go on a date, period."
He was only half-joking.
"Not even with you?" You tilted your head to meet his gaze, drawing his jacket closer around you.
Hotch just simply gives you that look, the one that says a thousand words without a sound. He's telling you to tread lightly.
"Alright, I'll be good," you giggle, the tension easing from your shoulders. "Can you take me home now, please?"
He nods, "Yeah, let's get you home."
And then he leads you out, thinking to himself that the next person to take you out will be him, but that's for him to know and you to find out later.

Everyone on the team had gotten 2 weeks off. Elle and Derek decided to not waste a second of it and flew away to Jamaica. Hotchner went to spend time with his family. Gideon would most likely be birdwatching in his cabin if you had to guess, he doesn’t like sharing much about his personal life. Neither does Reid who is heading back home to Las Vegas. You had just ended up on your couch with a cozy blanket and a movie you had been meaning to watch. A sudden loud ringing made you jump up. Rubbing your eyes so they can refocus.
You had fallen asleep. You would’ve laughed at yourself if it wasn’t for the constant loud ringing. Finally, finding your phone between the blanket you picked up without looking at the caller ID. “Y/n? Y/n?” It took a second for you to register JJ’s voice as she repeated your name.
“Yeah, Yeah, I’m here is everything okay?” you asked, running a hand through your hair. “You need to get to the office. Now.” She sounded serious.
“What happened?” You asked as you vaguely heard someone talk to JJ. It kind of sounded like Gideon. If he came to the office, it must be serious.
“Tell me when I get there, I’m on my way.” You said, not even waiting for her to respond to your question and you hung up. A million thoughts race through your head as you put on a work-appropriate outfit. As soon as you were ready you got in your car and drove to the bau as quickly as you could.
When you arrive JJ immediately walks up to you and starts filling you in. Elle got arrested, Gideon received a head in the mail, Hotch had a strange phone call, and she had just gotten a framed butterfly. “So, someone is targeting the team?” Crossing your arms over your body. You’ve worked for the bau a few years now and have never experienced anything like this.
“You didn’t get anything?” JJ questioned. It was strange. “No, I haven’t.” You replied.
“Huh, that’s strange.” She said what you were just thinking. JJ frowned, clearly trying to think of a reason why you didn’t. “I’ll keep my eye out for anything strange.” You nodded as you told her.
After about 30 minutes of looking over all the evidence the team had gathered so far, Elle, Morgan, and Hotch stepped out of the elevator. JJ walked up to them, so you got up and made your way over.
“Virginia? You mean that son of a bitch is from here?” This is the first thing you hear Elle say as you open the glass doors. Talking about Frank Giles.
“I don’t know if he’s from here, but this is where he flew to. Arlington.” JJ started explaining as you stepped up next to her and Morgan. He gave you a nod as he acknowledged you.
“He’s got a long criminal record. Manslaughter, robbery, rape.” She continued as she read from the file.
“What about the victim?” You asked crossing your arms, “Marty Harris.” Derek filled in.
“Uh, he’s a two-time convicted fetish burglar, registered child sex offender…” JJ read from the other file. “And we have his head.” Gideon interrupted her. “CSU just positively identified the one delivered to my cabin.”
“Don’t waste time on the first victims. They were unrepentant, bad men. They only got what they deserved.” Hotch spoke up. “What is that?” Morgan asked him.
“I got a phone call last night before you called from Jamaica.” He said looking over at Derek.
“Any mention of a ‘her’?” Elle asks Hotch. “You must help him save her.” he replies.
“Oh, so there’s a ‘him’ now, too?” Elle responds, clearly annoyed. Which is totally reasonable after getting arrested for murder and barely having any sleep.
“I think he means Reid.” You look over at Gideon. “Reid?” You and JJ both say at the same time. “We need to regroup.” Hotch says as last, and you all walk into the office.
You, JJ, Morgan, and Gideon are sitting at the round table. Hotch stood behind you and Elle stood near the tv screen. “So, clearly we have a psychopath intent on drawing us into his game.” Hotch said with his arms crossed. “Playing with us.” Gideon looked at his hands on the table. “Then let’s return the favor.” Elle says.
“He kept telling us repeatedly to save her. What ‘her’?” Derek questions.
“Items he’s sent must be some kind of clues.” You nod at what Gideon says. “Let’s get them up on the board.” Hotch nods towards the board as he says that.
“I got a Nellie Fox baseball card from 1963, and I got a head in a box.” Gideon starts as JJ gets up walking up to the board. “I got a rare butterfly in a shadow box.” She says as she starts writing it down on the whiteboard. “And repeated messages to ‘save her.’” Hotch adds.
“I got the decapitated body.” Elle says smiling sarcastically. “And a nice visit to the Jamaican Police Headquarters.”
Hotch looks over to you to say what you got. “I didn’t get anything.” You shrug.
“Not even a phone call?” He questions, raising an eyebrow. You shake your head. It looked as if Hotch was going to say something, but Gideon changed the subject. “Reid called from Nevada. He's on the way back here with a skeleton key and a note he got, too.”.
“And the guys who called me said, ‘the youngest holds the key’” Hotch adds on. “That’s Reid.” Elle says as she keeps pacing.
“Okay but wait a minute.” You look over at Derek. “Unsubs, they don’t contact us this way. I mean they might taunt us, dare us to catch them, but they don’t drag us into their fantasy.”
“Why not?” JJ asks Morgan when he finishes.
“Because their fantasies are sexual fantasies.” You answer before he can. “Right, taunting us is a show of power, but making us the object is…” He tries to search for the right words, “I don’t know what the hell that is.”
“There’s something else about the baseball card.” You look back to Gideon as he starts a new theory. “Nellie Fox was one of the stars of the 1959 White Sox. I went to almost every game with my father that year. Fox was my hero.” He says as he leans back in the chair. “So, is it a coincidence that he sends this to me, or does he know how I feel about him?” He questions looking over at Hotch. This makes JJ turn around.
“I collected butterflies when I was a little girl.” You all look over at her. “That’s how I knew what butterfly was in the box.”
“So, he knows us?” You question. “I got an anonymous message.” Hotch slightly shrugs. “I got a police raid.” Elle adds on. “But he knew exactly where we were.” Morgan says, supporting your theory. “Hotel in Jamaica Gideon at the cabin, Reid in Vegas, you at your home.” He lists off.
“He got that from the Bureau computers.” Penelope's voice makes you turn around in your chair; she looks nervous and has a file in her hand. “Your locations are always in there so they can find you if they need you. And I checked the log. The hacker was definitely in the personnel folders” She explains. Your brows furrow, how could this happen. “There were room numbers to the hotel in Jamaica, the address of Gideon’s cabin… There’s a lot of information in those databases.” She finished. Something about the way she’s talking is putting you off. There is something she isn’t telling you.
“Have you figured out how he was able to get into the Bureau’s computers?” Hotch asks her. She is silent. Just for a second. “I’m still working on that.” Lying to a room full of profilers probably isn’t the smartest thing to do. “Garcia, if you know something…” Hotch asks, clearly also picking up some things off.
“No, it’s, um…” Penelope's voice breaks slightly. “It’s just… I…” She’s clearly trying to find the right words, scared of upsetting the team. You give her a supportive smile. You’ve known her for years and know she would never do a bad thing on purpose. “I was playing a game yesterday.” She is silent for a second.
You look back to the team and catch JJ’s reaction. She clearly knows what Penelope is talking about. “An online game.” You look back over at the blonde with glasses. Tears shined in her eyes under the LED lights.
“A game?” Gideon asks. “Not on the Bureau computers, sir.” She quickly clarifies. “On my own personal laptop.”
“No, Garcia. No, no, no.” Derek says shaking his head. You close your eyes and lean your head on your hand. “I don’t understand.” Hotch looks for clarification.
“Wireless Internet.” You simply say. “By wirelessly hooking into the Net here to get online, the hacker could have gotten into my computer first, and… I have far less protection on my own laptop.” Penelope stoically explains it to him.
“And he could have gotten into the entire Bureau computer system this way?” You can’t see Hotch’s face as he says it but by the tone of his voice, you have some idea. “Yeah, it’s possible.” Penelope nods.
“Playing a game?” Gideon says as he gets up. “How could you be that stupid?” Seeing the look on Penelope's face, you have to resist the urge to defend her. Yes, she did do something stupid, but Gideon didn’t have to talk to her like that. “Information, files. You have a responsibility.”
“I know, sir. I’m so sorry.” Penelope replies to him. Gideon doesn’t reply. He just turns around. There is an awkward silence that hangs in the air. “But I found him.” Penelope eventually says. Almost full-on crying by now.
“You did?” You ask hopefully. “I know who he is, the hacker. His name is Giles. Frank Giles.” You all look at each other hearing this information. “He lives in Arlington, Virginia, four miles from here. I have his address” She continues as she hands the file she was holding to Hotch.
“Garcia, you said Giles?” Morgan asks her, wanting to confirm he heard it right. She nods quickly. “Let’s go.” Hotch only has to say those two words, and everyone is up and walking out of the office.
The team and you put on your bulletproof vests and got into the black SUVs. Sirens blared as you raced through the streets to get to Frank Giles as quickly as you could. The adrenaline is already pumping through your veins. Finally getting answers about why this is happening. You entered the building with the swat team. Derek kicked the door in, as usual. Everybody walks in with their guns raised. You hear some yell out that it’s clear. You, Derek, and Elle stand for a closed door.
“Frank Giles. FBI.” Derek yells out.
“Come out Giles.” Elle yells. They look at each other and both give a small nod. Then open the doors. As you enter you lower your gun immediately. You see Frank Giles’s lifeless body, only wearing underwear, laying on a dirty old mattress. A sword stuck in him.
“You got to be kidding me.” Elle’s the first one to speak.
“Hotch! Gideon! I think you’re gonna want to see this.” Derek calls out to them. You tear your eyes away from the gruesome scene to look at Elle. But she’s looking at the wall in front of you. So you look up to see ‘here thy quest doth truly begin’ written on the wall in blood.
All of you start taking in the crime scene. Vests already taken off. “He’s definitely playing with us.” Hotch speaks up. “His identification checks out.” Elle says handing his wallet to Hotch. “That’s Frank Giles.”
“There’s a big ol’bag of money sitting right here on the dresser.” Morgan says as he walks over to the bright blue bag. “So, Giles took Harris to Jamaica to kill him.”
“And then the unsub killed Giles.” You finished Hotch’s sentence.
“Yeah, but he paid him first.” Morgan says, confused about it.
“And left the cash?” Elle questions. “He must be well off.” You say, putting your hands on your hips.
“He said these were ‘unrepentant, bad men.’ Are we looking for some kind of vigilante?” Hotch asks, looking over at Gideon.
“No. The bodies are nothing but a way to get us interested. They’re game pieces. The killings are secondary.” Gideon explains nonchalantly.
“Well, this guy likes to write things in blood on the walls.” Elle says as she inspects the bloody walls.
Suddenly your phone starts ringing. All eyes are on you, but you look to Hotch. Silently asking for permission to step out for a bit. He gives you a nod and you step out to the hallway of the apartment building.
When you're alone you answer your phone.
“L/n.” You say but it stays silent on the other end. Pulling the phone away from your ear to check if you hadn’t accidentally declined the call. “Hello?” You ask as you put the phone back to your ear but it’s silent again.
About to hang up suddenly a voice comes through your phone.
“Agent Y/n L/n.” The voice sounds hoarse, you don’t recognize it. “Who is this?” You ask confused. Putting your right hand on your hip.
“It is your task to make sure they hear, and they listen.” The person ignores your question. You release this is the Unsub. “Do not let them stray.” He’s talking about the team.
He has to be. You’re about to respond as he hangs up.
“Damn it.” You let out a frustrated sigh. What could he have possibly meant by that? You keep staring at your phone.
“Hey,” a comforting voice takes you out of your thoughts, “You okay?” You look up to see Spencer walking up to you.
“What?” You look at him confused. Putting your phone back into your pocket. “Yeah. Yeah, I’m alright.” You smile, somewhat awkwardly.
Reid nods and sends a just as awkward smile back. It’s good to see him again. He looks around the empty hallway, hands in his pockets, hair slicked back behind his ears.
“Why are you out here?” He asks you.
“Oh, uh, no reason.” You shrug and let out a laugh. Why did you just lie to him? You honestly don’t know. It just slipped out. He also clearly doesn’t believe you, but before he can question you, you speak up.
“Let’s go, we can use you in there, genius.” You say as you nod towards the room the team is in. This time the smile you give each other isn’t awkward. They both are genuine smiles. Reid always gets a slight blush when someone calls him genius.
You never say it to embarrass him though. You say it full of affection. When you joined the bau, in your first case you got paired up with Spencer. He had been working at the bau for about a year. The two of you hit it off very well.
Walking back into the room you hear Hotch and Derek, “Midnight wouldn’t cast a shadow.” “‘Hour be none.’”
“3 P.M.,” Reid says as you walk in side by side. “Hey, guys. Garcia told me where to find you.” Hotch crouched near the body glances past Reid to look at you with a questioning gaze, silently asking about the phone call. You shake your head telling him it wasn’t important. And again, you don’t know why you are lying to your team about this. You tell yourself it’s because there are more important things right now and that phone call didn’t even make sense.
“3 P.M?” Gideon asks disrupting your thoughts.
“It’s medieval. The days used to be broken into hourly intervals, the canonical hours of the breviary.” Spencer begins to explain, “Prime, 6 A.M”., terce, 9 A.M., sext, 12 noon, none, 3 P.M., and vespers 6 P.M.”
Elle smiles at him fondly and points her finger at him, “Reid, do not ever go away again.” He smiles at her as Gideon starts talking. “Medieval. That’s why the language changed. ‘doth’”
“Everything this guy does is a clue.” Hotch says looking at the team.
“Okay, but, guys, it’s 4:35. What do we do? Leave to the blade in till 3 P.M. tomorrow?” Derek asked.
“What if we block that window out?” You asked, pointing towards the window. Reid nodded at what you said and turned to one of the crime scene investigators. “Do you have any spotlights in your car?” He asked Gina.
“Sure.” She says as she's getting up, Elle thanks her.
When she came back with a flashlight she gave it to Reid. He crouched down next to where you were standing and pointed the light to the sword.
“See, this sun is right here at 5 P.M., Morgan, follow the shadow as I move the light higher.” Derek starts to move a small table out of the way to get closer to the wall. “Okay, and do what?” He asks when he’s finished.
“Tap.” Hotch instructs him. Derek starts tapping on the wall. He stops when he finds a hollow spot. “It’s hollow.” He says as he looks back at Hotch.
“Definitely an Indiana Jones movie.” Elle says looking over at you when you laugh at her joke.
“Feels like the wallpaper’s been replaced.” Morgan says to Hotch. “Tear it open.” He replies. Derek takes a knife out of his pocket and starts cutting open the wallpaper. Pulling back the wall.
“It’s a box.” He states looking back at the team. “Pull it out.” Hotch instructs him again. “Wait, are we sure that’s safe?” Spencer asks as he stands up. You look over at him. “You think it’s a bomb?” You ask him questionably.
“It isn’t. You think he’d be playing this game just to blow us up?” Hotch retorts. “He’d have already done that as long as we’ve been standing here.” Derek agrees with him and pulls out the box from the hole. He placed it on the table from earlier.
Hotch crouches next to Gideon to get a better look at it. You make your way over to see what it is, while Spencer doesn’t move. Morgan tries to open it, but it seems like it won’t budge.
“It’s locked.” He confirms, “You want me to break it?”
“No, we should process it first.” Hotch answers his question.
“The youngest holds the key.” Gideon suddenly speaks up. And you, Hotch, and Morgan all look at Reid. Spencer searches his pants pockets for the key. Only to realize he put it in the pocket of his button-up.
He does a little jog up to the box and goes to open it. Putting the key in and backing up slightly as he turns it. Music starts to come from the box.
It takes a second for you to recognize it. Turns out all those failed piano lessons are good for something. “Schubert.” Gideon says but before he can say which piece you beat him to it.
“The Trout Quintet.” He looks over at you confused, clearly, he didn’t expect you to know it. You just shrug in reply as you focus on the note that Spencer pulled out of the box. “Five people fishing.” Hotch says, giving context to the song.
“Never would it be night, but always clear day to any man’s sight.” Reid starts reading off the paper. “Well, that was worth it.” Elle says as she turns away.
“The lid.” Gideon points at the box, “Little tab right under the lock.” Morgan leans over Reid to open the lid.
As he opens it there’s a dvd in it, but also a blonde lock of hair tied with a pink bow.
“Jesus.” Slips out of you. “Oh, god.” Elle says at the same time.
Morgan pulls both out as Gideon lets out a tired sigh. Derek gives Elle the lock of hair. “Do you have that evidence bag?” She asks one of the CSI’s. “Here you go.” He replies as he holds out a bag for her to put the hair in.
“Thy quest.” Morgan says standing up and holding out the dvd so you all can see it. Out of the corner of your eye, you see Gideon putting his head in his hand. After everything is mostly wrapped up at the crime scene you all make your way back to the office.
Everyone is clearly tired and wants to catch this guy.
On the car ride back all you can think about is that phone call. It keeps repeating in your head. “Agent Y/n L/n.” “Who is this?” “It is your task to make sure they hear, and they listen. Do not let them stray.” You just can’t seem to make sense of it. What is it that you need to make sure they listen to? Maybe this dvd?
Without even releasing you’re back, sitting at the round table. The dvd is playing.
You see a barely lit office. A man stumbles into the frame and sits down at the chair, you can’t make out a face though.
“He moves funny.” Hotch noted. Derek looks back at Hotch to reply, “It’s like he’s injured or something.”
The man in the video starts talking. “I assure you, you will all understand in the end why it must be this way.” It’s the same voice of the man who called you at Frank Giles’s place. You shift in your seat as he continues. “You might even thank me.”
“Don’t hold your breath, scumbag.” You see Hotch glance over at Elle as she says this.
“You know now you’re on a quest. A young girl’s life depends on the successful completion of it.” The video shows a blonde girl being held captive. She’s throwing things at the camera and hitting the bars of the cage. “As you can see, she is quite beautiful and in distress.” The way he talks about her along with the footage makes your skin crawl.
“Now please listen closely for there is one rule and this rule must be followed.” You sit up straighter in your chair. The things he said on the phone call must be about this.
“The one rule is, only the members of your team may participate in the quest: Jason Gideon, Aaron Hotchner, Derek Morgan, Elle Greenaway, Y/n L/n, Spencer Reid, Jennifer Jareau, Penelope Garcia.” As he said, all your names and pictures of everyone on the team showed on the screen.
“A quest must be completed in the proper way, or it isn’t a quest, is it? That’s it. One rule. Simple. Now, you will be receiving an item soon that will hold the final clue you will need to finish the quest. You will find you will also need a book which has inspired many adventures like mine. Believe me, when I tell you I truly hope to see you all soon. It will mean a successful end to this adventure for all of us.” The video stopped playing. You look at everyone on the team.
“This guy’s got pictures of us?” Elle is the first one to speak up.
“What do we do now?” Reid asks Hotch.
“Well, the lock of hair’s being analyzed for DNA. There might be something on file.” He answers Reid.
“I’ll get Video to enhance the shots of the girl.” JJ says as she gets up to leave.
“Let's get the clues up on the board. Maybe we can make some sense of something.” Hotch instructs.
“Wait, we’re going to play this guy’s game?” Elle asks him, frustrated.
“Do we have a choice?” Spencer replies. But you’re not focusing on their conversation anymore, you’re focused on Gideon. You can’t figure out what he’s up to as he’s about to leave the room.
Everyone else turns around when they hear the click of the door opening.
“Be right back. You guys keep working.” Hotch says as he gets up to talk to Gideon. However, you don’t listen. The rest of the team looks at you as you follow him.
You’re following him out of the room for two reasons. Wanting to know what’s going on, everyone has always told you you’re too curious for your own good. And thinking now might be a good time to also mention to Hotch that you got a call from the Unsub.
“Jason?” Hotch calls out as he follows Gideon, “Jason!” He calls out again when the older man doesn’t stop. Gideon walks into his office and lets the door slam closed behind him. Before Hotch follows Gideon into his office, he gives you a disapproving look for following him. “We’ll talk about this later.” He says dismissively and walks into Gideon's office.
You let out a sigh. Why did you think this would work. You turn back around to have your walk of shame back to the rest of the group.
Morgan lets out a small laugh as he sees you walking back into the room. Reid gives you a questioning look, but you just shrug it off.
Not long after Hotch handed a paper over to Reid and said Haley received it. You, Morgan, Elle, and Reid had been staring at these numbers for a while now.
“My eyes are so heavy I can barely see it.” Elle says with a sigh.
“It has to be some kind of code, right?” You question, leaning against the table next to Reid. “The Unsub said we needed a book, didn’t he?” Reid brings up. You look over at him, curious about where he’s going with this.
“Yeah. ‘a book that inspired many an adventure.’” Morgan quotes from the video.
“It’s a book code. Each one of these sets of numbers represents a particular word.” Spencer explains and points at one of the codes on the paper, “For instance, page 118, line 30, word three. We need to figure out what the words are and fill in the blanks.”
“Right, but we don’t know what book.” You respond, another dead end.
“And the trouble is, it has to be the exact same edition of the exact same book that he used.” Reid adds on.
“Just got a DNA hit on the lock of hair.” JJ says as she walks into the room, “Rebecca Bryant.” She hands Elle a picture after showing it to you, “She’s been missing out of Boston for two years.”
You look over at her shocked, “Two years?” She nods as she looks at you.
“Guys, how are we supposed to figure out which book this code was copied out of?” Derek brings the conversation back after being handed the picture from Elle. “I have no idea.” Spencer replies. JJ walks up to the whiteboard and sticks the picture of Rebecca on it.
Reid was standing in front of the whiteboard, “He said we have everything needed to complete the quest.” he said as he turned around to look at you, Elle, and Derek. Derek was sitting on the chair backward, Elle practically laying in the leather chair, you were leaning against the table and JJ was sitting normally at the table looking over the evidence.
“The answer’s got to be up there somewhere.” Elle mumbles, very clearly tired.
“JJ, get some reporters here as soon as you can.” You quickly turn around as you hear Gideon say this. Alarm bells going off in your head.
Once again, the things the Unsub said on your phone call repeating themselves. It is your task to make sure they hear and they listen. Do not let them stray. Gideon’s not listening. “For what?” JJ asks him. “Just say we need help on a new case.” Is all he gives in response before he walks away.
You get up to follow him, again. You have to stop him from doing this. Gideon is always surprisingly fast for his age. You just barely catch up to him when he reaches Hotch again. “Sirs, you can’t do this.” You say, well it more sounds like you're begging.
Gideon and Hotch, both give you confused looks.
You take a deep breath. “He called me.” You say looking at them.
Their reactions are exactly what you expected. Gideon stays silent, he’s profiling you. “What? What do you mean he called you L/n? When did this happen?” Hotch asks you with a stern look on his face as he crosses his arms. You feel ashamed. You should’ve told them. You know that. You just hoped you had figured out what he meant earlier so you could’ve given the team helpful evidence and not more questions. “Back at the apartment.” You say, placing your hands behind your back so they don’t notice how nervous you are.
Gideon just shakes his head and walks away. Obviously thinking he has better things to do than deal with you.
“Why didn’t you say something before?” Hotch asks you.
“I… I don’t know,” The unsatisfied look Hotch gives you makes rethink your answer, “I wanted to figure out what he meant.”
“So, you could show off?” Hotch fills it in for himself. You quickly shake your head. That’s not why you did it. “No, no I didn’t want to add more unanswered questions for the team.” It sounds stupid and you realize that.
Hotch sighs and rubs his forehead, “What did he say to you?”
“He told me to make sure they hear, and they listen and to not let them stray. I think he was talking about the video.” You reply to him, “I think the press conference is a mistake, Hotch.”
“Gideon knows what he’s doing L/n, I trust him. You should’ve told us sooner.” He says before walking away. You couldn’t shake the nervous feeling. You went to get some coffee. Not ready to face your team yet.
On your third cup, you see Hotch walking back into the office. The press conference is over, there’s nothing you can do about it now. You see Elle walking out with Hotch.
“Anderson, take Greenaway home.” He says, looking over at him. “Yes, sir.” Anderson immediately replies.
“No, I’m fine.” Elle protests. “I’ll have your car brought over later.” Hotch tells her. “Alright, come on, Anderson.”
Do not let them stray. It repeats in your head.
“Sir, is it okay if I go with them? I can come back whenever you need me.” You ask Hotch. He hesitates for a moment, thinking it over. Elle smiles over at you, she appreciates it.
“Alright but keep your phone on and close L/n.” Hotch tells you.
Elle was struggling to stay awake the whole drive back to her house. Anderson dropped you both off and went back to the office. Elle let you into the house. You’ve been here before, many times, you and her occasionally have a drink after a case when neither of you wants to be alone.
Elle tosses her keys on the coffee table and drops her bag next to the couch and flops down on it. You can’t help but let out a laugh. She doesn’t even have the energy to glare at you, shifting on the couch to get into a more comfortable position.
You put down your own bag next to hers and take off your gun and gun holster placing them next to her keys on the table. You walked into her kitchen, you hadn’t eaten yet and doubted she had.
Opening the fridge just to find it practically empty. There are some leftovers, but they don’t look edible anymore. You grab them to throw them away, the smell hits you and you pull a face.
“Gross.” You mutter under your breath and throw it in the trash can. “Hey, I'm going to get some food, you want any?” You ask her as you walk back into her living room.
She lets out a noise that’s something between a hum and a groan.
“Alright, I’ll take that as a yes.” You say with a smile on your face, “I’m taking your keys, I’ll be right back.” Reaching for her keys on the table.
She gives you a thumbs-up while trying to stifle a yawn.
So, you lock the door behind you as you leave for the small supermarket near her house. It’s about a 10 minute walk away.
You grab some iced coffees and some simple heat-up meals. You’re done in about 5 minutes, pay for everything and walk back. The plastic bag is heavier than you expected it to be, it leaves imprints on your fingers.
You reach Elle’s front door and reach for the keys in your jacket. You try to open the lock as quietly as you can, not wanting to wake her up.
As you open the door you freeze. The plastic bag somehow becomes ten times heavier, and it drops to the floor. The ice coffee starts to leak but it’s the least of your concern.
Elle is laying on the floor covered in her own blood.
“Oh my god…” You whisper. You rush forward to her somehow without falling over your own feet. You fall to your knees. Hands reach up to her face. She isn’t conscious. You give her a few taps on her cheek and her eyes flutter slightly.
“Shit, Elle. You gotta stay awake, okay?” You look around helplessly. Her phone is on the floor next to her. Did she call 911? You place one hand on the wound to try and stop the bleeding, knowing it isn’t doing much as you feel the red hot liquid slip right past your fingers.
You reach over her to check her phone. Luckily you know her password.
You check her out going call and see 911. A sigh of relief escapes you.
Help is on the way. You just have to do everything you can to keep her alive until then.
Blood is staining your hands as you try to stop the bleeding. Her eyes closed.
“No, no, no, no, Elle, stay with me. Come on, you gotta keep your eyes open. Keep them open for me. Fuck. Elle. Come on. Please… I… I can’t lose you. Please.” A million things ran through your head. If you had been here, you could’ve stopped him.
If you hadn’t left, Elle would be okay. God, why did they have that press conference. Why hadn’t you been more demanding with Hotch that it was a bad idea.
Vague sirens interrupted your train of thought. Taking one hand to check Elle’s pulse. Time stopped. You couldn’t feel a heartbeat.
“Fuck.” Panicking. What would cpr do if she was bleeding out? Not like you had any other choice. You started compressions.
No thoughts run through your head anymore. Just pure focus on the task. Not even noticing the sirens getting louder and louder.
A paramedic pulls you away from Elle. Only now realizing they had arrived. Their mouths were moving but you couldn’t make out any of the words.
You stepped back. Letting them do their job.
Everything is hazy, you blink rapidly. Tears fall on your cheeks.
Have you been crying this whole time? You didn’t even realize it. They place Elle on a stretcher and make their way back to the ambulance. You follow them without saying a word. You don’t think about the fact that your phone is still in your bag.
Getting ready to step into the ambulance you noticed a car arriving. Anderson. He stumbled out of the SUV.
“L/n, what happened?” He tried not to show his fear but the tremble in his voice gave him away. “Call Hotch. Meet me at the hospital. I- I’ll explain there.” You spoke hurriedly while getting into the ambulance.
The paramedics are rushing the stretcher into the ER. You’re having a hard time keeping up with them. The doctors take Elle over.
“I’m sorry, we are taking her into surgery. You aren’t allowed any further.” One of the nurses is holding you back. You have no fight left in you, so you just nod and make your way to the waiting room.
Anderson is already there. His eyes are red. Had he been crying? He looked like a mess. You didn’t even want to think about what you looked like right now. The way Anderson’s eyes widened when he saw you back at the house told you enough. You definitely looked worse than him.
“I called Hotchner. Him and Agent Gideon are on their way now.” Wringing his hands as he spoke. He’s nervous. “Do you... um, do you know anything yet?” He barely could get the question out without tears threatening to spill.
“She’s in surgery.” Was all you could manage to get out as you spoke. Wanting to run your hand over your face but as you reached you noticed the deep maroon stains and how much it was shaking so you put your hand back down.
“If you want to, I can wait here, so you can get cleaned up.” He offered. You gave him a thankful but tired smile.
Making your way over to the bathroom. The door handle stuck to your hand slightly, leaving a slight red imprint on it.
You let out a heavy sigh, resting your head against the door as you closed it behind you. Walking up to the sink you didn’t dare to look into the mirror.
You turned on the faucet and put your shaky hands under the ice cold water. The water colored red instantly. You tried not to think about the fact it was Elle’s blood you were washing off.
Keeping your hands under the water until it turned clear again made them start to tingle from the freezing water. Turning the faucet off, you placed your hands on the sides of the sink. Not daring to look at your own reflection.
Involuntarily you let out a shaky breath. Trying to recollect yourself.
Hotch and Gideon would arrive any moment. They would have questions for you. Questions that would force you to think back to what happened not even an hour ago, while all you’ve been trying this whole time is to forget about it. You couldn’t bear to try and remember.
You dried your hands and walked out of the bathroom, scanning the waiting room for Anderson. He was talking to two men in suits. Two men you could recognize anywhere. How did they get here so soon? How long had you been in the bathroom? You looked at your wrist. The face of your watch is stained with blood. You quickly pulled the sleeve of your jacket back over it.
“It appears she dialed 911 herself before she passed out.” You hear Anderson say as you get closer to them. Hotch and Gideon turned around when they noticed Anderson's gaze shifting to you.
The pity and maybe even guilt that Anderson feels when he makes eye contact with you is clear on his face. Or maybe it’s clear to you since profiling is your job, but then how come you couldn’t prevent Elle from dying. No. She isn’t dead. Not anymore. The paramedics shocked her back to life. She’s alive. She’ll be okay. She has to be. You would never be able to live with yourself if she wouldn’t be. Hotch keeps his eyes on you for a minute while Gideon turns back around.
“Why weren’t we notified?” He asks Anderson.
“The offender apparently took her ID and gun. The uniform I talked to didn’t even know she was in the Bureau until I arrived on scene.” He replies to Gideon quickly.
“Get back over there.” Hotch says turning back to look at Anderson. “This is a federal crime scene. Nobody touches anything. We process it.” He instructs the younger agent. “Go.”
“Yes, sir.” Anderson replies as he leaves to go and do exactly what Hotch told him to.
The two agents turn back around to observe you. You are staring into space; your mind is clouded. Nothing feels clear anymore. Hotch and Gideon glance at each other. Both concerned with the state you’re in currently. Gideon takes out his phone and walks a few steps away, going to call the office.
“L/n? Hey L/n?” An authoritative, yet comforting voice made you reorientate. Hotch squinted his eyes and ever so slightly tilted his head. He was profiling you. And you would’ve noticed if you weren’t so tired.
“Sorry, what were you saying sir?” Crossing your arms over each other.
“You’re lucky you weren’t there as well.” He said touching your shoulder. But you didn’t feel lucky. All you felt was guilt, but you simply nodded. “Is there anything you remember?” He crosses his arms just like you did.
“I-” You choke on your words. You close your eyes and shake your head trying to get your thoughts in order. “I wasn’t even gone for 30 minutes. If I had just… If I hadn’t left, she would be okay.”
“If you had been there, he most likely would’ve shot you as well L/n.” Hotch tells you. Before you can say anything, else Gideon walks back over to the two of you.
“Trap and trace got nothing.” He says leaning against the wall and putting his phone away. “Unsub used a disposable cell.” You look confused at that. Hotch notices.
“The unsub, he called us. Taunting us about Elle.” He explains to you. You let out an exhausted sigh. It’s as if this case never ends.
“We got our best CSU team. If he left anything, a print, a hair, sweat, anything…” “They’ll find it.” Gideon cuts Hotch off. You look down at your hands, they are still shaking.
“I’m going to grab a coffee.” You mutter out and leave the two agents.
After grabbing your coffee, you go and sit in the waiting room. It is completely empty. Would you rather have it be busy? You’re not sure which would be worse. Because now you must sit here in this hurt. This constant tight feeling in your chest, as if you’re not getting enough air.
A few minutes later Gideon walks in. He nods at you as you look at him. He sits down a few chairs away from where you’re sitting, giving you some space. You sit in silence, it’s not uncomfortable but it also isn’t exactly comfortable. “Hotch is calling JJ and Morgan.” He says, explaining where the other agent is. You just nod, not having the energy to reply. You look down at the coffee in your hands, you haven’t taken a single sip. It’s pretty much cold now. Out of the corner of your eye, you see Gideon scrabbling things down on the magazines that lay down on the table. You don’t ask him about it.
After a while, Hotch walks in and you look up from your drink. He’s gotten rid of his suit jacket. “Any word?” He asks Gideon.
“Nope.” Gideon replies simply.
“I called JJ. I told her we’d call them if anything changed.” Hotch tells the two of you as he leans on the two chairs in front of him. Gideon and you simply nod at what he says.
“What’s all that?” Hotch asks as he notices the writing on the magazines.
“This unsub’s extremely organized.” Gideon explains instead of answering his question, “He sounded truly shocked that we didn’t follow the rules. He honestly believed we would simply listen to his directions.”
“He’s delusional. He thinks he’s a mythological king.” Hotch says, his eyebrows furrow slightly.
“But delusion and this level of organization are almost mutually exclusive.” Gideon corrects Hotch, “You don’t meticulously plan contacts in the real world if you’re suffering psychotic breaks from reality.” Before Hotch can reply to Anderson walks back in. “How is she?” he quietly asks. You stare back down at your coffee again.
“No word yet.” Hotch replies to him, “Is the scene processed?”
“They’re finished. We still have it locked up tight, though.” Anderson explains.
“They find anything?” Hotch asks, he sounds exhausted.
“CSU found a partial print.” You look up as Anderson says this. “The shooter wrote a message on the wall in blood and,” He did? How did you not notice that? Hotch and Gideon glance at you just for a second, probably thinking the same. “In one of the smudges, they found a whorl pattern.” Anderson hands over the file to Hotch. “They made a lift. They aren’t sure whether it’s enough to get a hit, but they are processing it now.” Anderson continues as Hotch hands the file over to Gideon. You get up from your seat, still holding your coffee, you walk closer to Gideon to look at the file.
He grabs the top picture of a bloody fingerprint to reveal what the unsub wrote on the wall. RULES. Dripping down the wall. You try to think back as hard as you can but don’t remember seeing it. You should’ve seen it. Gideon reads what’s on the picture and looks up at Hotch. He places the file back down on the table in front of him.
Hotch leaves to get coffee. Leaving you and Gideon alone again. You go to sit back down in the chair but stop.
You can’t help the words that slip out of your mouth. “You shouldn’t have done the press conference.” You turn around to face him. “I tried to warn you.”
Gideon doesn’t say anything. He just stares down at the file. You want to yell at him. Scream that it’s his fault. But you bite the inside of your cheek.
“I was just doing my job.” He says quietly, so quiet it’s barely a whisper. You can’t help but let out a scoff and stare at him. If looks could kill Gideon would be six feet under by now. You respect him, you truly do, but he made a bad call and can’t own up to it.
The reasonable part of your brain tells you, you are projecting your own feelings of guilt and anger on him, but you don’t have it in you to be reasonable right now. So, you storm out of the waiting room. You throw your coffee in a trash can as you walk past it. Hotchner passes by you with two coffees in his hand, he’s put his jacket back on, he raises an eyebrow when you don’t acknowledge him. He looks back at you but keeps walking back to the waiting room.
You let out a frustrated sigh. You notice one of Elle’s doctors and go to ask if they have any new information.
She just tells you the same thing, “No, I’m sorry.” And she walks away.
You just wish someone could tell you something, anything. You’re tired, exhausted, angry, sad, terrified, guilty. Your eyes start to sting as you try and hold back your tears. You look around and walk into the nearest bathroom.
When the door closes the damn breaks and tears fall down your face. A sob escapes you and you place your hand over your mouth. You try to focus on your breathing to try and calm down. It works a little bit.
You decide washing your face might help you get grounded again, so you walk over to the sink. Turning it on and putting your hands under the water. Somehow the water of this sink is even colder than the one from before. You cup your hands under it and splash the water on your face.
You reach to grab a towel to dry your hands and face but catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror. You look even worse than you imagined. Your mascara is all over the place and so is your hair. There even is some dried blood on your face, you quickly scrub it off with a damp paper towel.
So many thoughts and feelings have been racing through your head over the past few hours, you can barely keep up with them. Did you overstep with Gideon just now? Possibly. You just couldn’t handle bearing all the guilt you were feeling anymore.
Before you leave you check yourself in the mirror again. You look… less chaotic to put it nicely. You smooth over your hair and clothes and walk out of the bathroom.
You start looking for Hotch and Gideon but only find the latter. He’s staring into space, the thing you’ve seen him do all day. You look around before approaching him, hoping to find Hotch instead.
“Hey…” You clear your throat as you stand next to the chair he’s sitting in. He takes a second to look up to his left and gives you a nod of acknowledgment. A certain awkwardness flows between you two. Neither saying a word.
His fingers are interlaced, resting on his lap. He’s trying to appear calm and collected, but his shaking knee is giving him away.
There’s a free chair next to him. You debate with yourself whether you should sit down or not. Gideon nods over to the chair as if he was reading your mind. “Just sit down, kid.”
A quick nod is all you give him in response as you go and sit down.
After sitting in this silence for a few minutes, you speak up. “She’s going to be okay right?” You rub your palms over your thighs, trying to shake the nervous feeling.
“Greenaway is strong, she’s a fighter.” He doesn’t know if she’ll be okay. He is probably as terrified as you are right now. Once again, you just nod. You wring your fingers. Letting out a sigh, you look over at Gideon.
“Sir, I’m sorry if I overstepped…” He looks over at you with a raised eyebrow, “Earlier, in the waiting room.” You remind him.
Gideon nods, he hadn’t expected you to bring it up again. He wasn’t mad at you; he was mad at himself. He should’ve listened. And he would regret the choice he made, along with all the other choices over his career. Gideon waved his hand at you, telling you that what happened didn’t matter.
You and Gideon sat in the hallway for another half hour before a doctor finally approached both of you. Hearing the news a sigh left you. Relief flooded your body.
Elle is okay. Elle is alive.
Gideon went to call the team as you followed the doctor. Elle was laying in the hospital bed. She looked peaceful. You can’t remember the last time you saw her this relaxed. You approach her bed and sit down in the chair next to it. All the memories of today wash over you again, the thought that you could’ve lost your friend. You wipe away a single tear that falls.
Gideon walks up next to you after a few minutes. Laying his hand on your shoulder.
“They caught him, he’s dead.” You turn around to look at him, “They saved Rebecca.” You look back to Elle as you nod at what he says. Part of you wished you could’ve been there with the team. Gotten some justice for Elle. But you were where you needed to be. Right here. In the hospital, sitting next to Elle as she wakes up.

You and Terry have been happily together for two years; your relationship has flourished, building a stronger bond filled with love, warmth, joy, and countless cherished moments.
Recently, Terry mentioned that he has planned something special for the upcoming week, which he hasn’t revealed yet. You can’t help but feel excitement as you wonder what he has in store.
"Terry, are we there yet?" you asked, your voice tinged with excitement as he helped you out of the car. The sun's warmth enveloped you, trying to adjust to the bright light.
You felt his hands gently remove the cover from your head. "Yes, we are here!" he proclaimed, his voice filled with enthusiasm. As you turned to take in your surroundings, your breath caught.
Before you stood a stunning white villa, its green window shutters contrasting beautifully against the pristine exterior. The villa had a commanding view of the beach, with the waves lapping gently at the shore.
You and Terry were at the Round Hill Resort in Montego Bay, Jamaica—a place that Maya and Cam had raved about. You had been bubbling with excitement to experience it.
You glanced over at Terry, who wore a broad smile that lit up his face. "Oh, Terry, I love you," you exclaimed, your heart swelling with joy as you jumped into his arms, feeling safe and cherished in his embrace.
"I love you too, baby. Come on, let's get checked in," Terry said, his voice warm and inviting. After checking in to your oceanfront king room, decorated in elegant all-white tones, you settled in, marveling at the breathtaking view from your private balcony.
“Oh my goodness, this is beautiful!” you squealed, your eyes wide with wonder as you took in the picturesque sunset, which painted the sky in shades of orange, pink, and purple.
"We should watch the sunset after dinner!" you suggested, your excitement bubbling. Terry stepped closer, wrapping his strong arms around your waist, drawing you near.
“And in the morning, we can watch the sunrise!” he added, planting a soft kiss on your neck that sent shivers down your spine. “Yeah!” you nodded enthusiastically.
Witnessing the beauty of the sunrise and sunset every day fills you with bliss. This entire vacation felt like a dream come true, especially after the busy routines you both had been caught up in.
You embraced the thrill of jet-skiing, enjoyed lively matches on the tennis court, unwinded at the luxurious spa, and savored exquisite meals together; each moment seemed to blend seamlessly into the next.
You took countless pictures during this trip, capturing memories you would treasure forever. With a smile, you admired yourself in the mirror, feeling a sense of contentment.
Tonight marked your 2nd anniversary, and Terry had planned an incredibly romantic dinner on the beach for the two of you. As you prepared.
You decide to style your hair in protective long curly twist braids and put them in in an updo, enhancing your natural beauty with a light touch of makeup.
You chose a sexy, short white dress that complemented your dark-brown skin, making you feel radiant and confident. You took one last look in the mirror, knowing you would drive Terry wild.
“Hey—wow…” Terry exclaimed, entering the bathroom, his eyes widening at seeing you. He wore a gold chain, a colorful button-up shirt underlining his toned physique, and white shorts.
Terry always looked incredibly handsome. “How do I look?” you asked playfully, twirling to show off your outfit. He approached you, his gaze filled with admiration and a hint of desire.
“You look absolutely gorgeous,” he said, his voice smooth and sincere. “And the dress?” you teased, raising your brows while motioning to the fabric that hugged your figure.
Terry stepped closer, his hand brushing against the fabric of your dress. “It looks good enough to rip off,” he replied with a mischievous grin.
Terry placed his hands on your plump waist and kissed your neck softly. “Terry—” you moaned softly, feeling the warmth of his affection ignite a spark within you.
You reminded him, “We’ll be late for our dinner!” You gently pushed yourself away, trying to catch your breath. Terry bit his lip, his eyes glinting with playful mischief as he nodded in agreement.
“You’re right, but you’re in for it when we return,” he said, his voice low and alluring. You couldn't help but smile, knowing he knew what you were doing.
“Okay, big daddy,” you teased, quickly moving out of the hotel room before he could react to your words. You rushed ahead, laughing as he followed, a lust glint in his eyes.
You and Terry left the hotel suite and headed to the beach for a romantic dinner. The sound of the waves and the soft glow of the candles set the perfect mood.
As you and Terry sat at the beach, the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm golden hue over your dinner setting. The rhythmic sound of the waves crashed gently against the shore.
“Yo, this place is beautiful,” Terry said, a soft smile spreading across his face as he looked into your eyes. “I'm so happy we’re able to travel and explore beautiful places like this.”
“Right? It feels like a dream,” you replied with a light laugh, reaching across the table to hold his hand. “And I love how you make everything feel so special.”
Terry squeezed your hand, his eyes twinkling. “You know, I’ve been thinkin’…we’ve been together for two amazing years now, and you mean the world to me. I'm ready for that next step?”
Your heart raced at his words. “You mean like marriage, Terry?” you asked, a teasing smile on your lips. “What? You trying to put a ring on it?”
Terry chuckled, a bit shy yet confident. “Yeah, you already know how much I love you and how much you mean to me.” He leaned in closer, brushing your cheek.
“And you know how I want to spend the rest of my life with you, have a family, the whole thing. I want to become a reality.” You felt warmth wash over you, the air filled with romance.
Terry grabbed your hand and motioned to get up, his expression serious yet filled with love. He knelt on one knee and pulled out a small velvet box without warning.
“So, what I’m tryin’ to say is…will you marry me, baby?” He asked, and you gasped, brimming with happiness as you realized what was happening.
The world around you faded away, leaving just the two of you and the crashing waves. “Yes, Terry! Yes, of course, I will!” you exclaimed, tears of joy filling your eyes as he slipped the ring onto your finger.
Terry got up, pulling you into a passionate kiss before holding you in a tight embrace. You both stood there, wrapped in each other's arms, as if time stood still, surrounded by the moment's beauty.
You and Terry enjoyed the rest of your dinner. Eventually, you both returned to the hotel suite and couldn't keep your hands off each other.
Terry, being the pleaser that he is in the bedroom, had already made you cum two times. "That's it, baby. Be a good girl and spread your legs for me," Terry said, slapping your sensitive pussy.
Let out a moan as your plump legs spread wide open as far as you can. Terry stroked himself and began sliding his length up and down your pussy lips before thrusting slowly deep.
You moaned while staring up at him with desire. "You like it when I go deep inside those guts, baby?" Terry asked, his voice was low and sensual.
"Yes, Daddy! yes, Fuck me. It's so deep, Dick is so good." You cried, throwing your head back in pleasure, still holding your legs, and he chuckled, pinching your nipples.
"You are so beautiful, you know that. I can't wait to have you as my wife so I can give you all the babies. Would you like that baby?" Terry asked, thrusting up harshly, making you moan louder.
"Yes, Daddy, I want to have your babies!!" You moaned with a slight chuckle of joy, feeling good he still wanted babies with you. Terry smirked, coming down to kiss you and wrapping your legs around his waist.
You pulled away, tilting your head to the side as Terry picked up the pace, going faster and harder. "You are so good at loving me, Terry. You are gonna be such an amazing husband and father. I know it."
"Fuck, baby! you don't know how much that means to hear. I feel so incredibly loved by you; you're gonna be a great wife and mother. I'm glad you’re all mine," Terry said, getting emotional and kissing you.
You pulled away, giving him a look, and already felt your orgasm forming. "Do you wanna cum, baby?" Terry asked, slightly sitting up to look down at his dick going in and out of you.
"Ahhh yes," You cried in response with a moan, trying to hold off until you couldn't anymore. "Beg for it; tell me how much you want to come, baby," Terry said.
He sat up fully, placing his hand around your waist as your fingernails dug into his arms. "Please, Daddy," You whimpered; you couldn't hold anything longer.
"Please, what?" Terry asked seductively. "Please let me cum, Daddy," you begged with tears in your eyes, gripping his wrists, feeling your legs shake and tense up.
"Fuck, cum baby," Terry moaned, feeling his orgasm coming. "Cum on this dick, clench it. I love it when you do that, baby," He whispered, going to kiss you softly.
"Ahhh, Terry!!!!" You moaned, muffling his name while your eyes rolled in the back of your head. You felt yourself clenching his throbbing dick, and the most fantastic orgasm rip through you.
You were coming from your high; Terry kept thrusting and thrusting, grabbing your waist harshly and making you arch your back. "Mmm...I want to be filled with your cum; get me pregnant."
Terry moans at your words, pounds you into your pussy undeniably, reaching for that climax. "Shit, baby girl Are you sure? Because I'll give it to you if you want it."
"Yes, Daddy, give me all your cum; give a baby, please," You moaned, pulling him down into a kiss, and that was all he really needed to go over the edge.
Terry pulls from the kiss and moans in your ear as he shakes from spilling his seed inside you, causing both of you to moan. You place your hands on his back, caressing him as he calms down.
Both of you lay there for a few minutes until he finally pulled out and flipped onto his back on his side of the bed. You looked over at him, and he looked at you with those eyes.
He smiled as he reached to rub your belly. "Hopefully, I succeeded," Terry joked, still trying to catch his breath. You giggled playfully, hitting his chest before going in for a kiss.
-
Two weeks later, after returning from your trip, you and Terry excitedly announced your engagement to both of your families and mutual friends.
They were all so happy for you and him that you immediately began planning the wedding. After a few more weeks, you started to feel sick.
As you lay in bed, feeling hope and unease, Terry sat beside you, gently stroking your hair. "You good, babe? You have been lookin' a little out of it," he said, concern in his voice.
“I don’t know, Terry. I-I just got this feelin’ in my gut,” you replied, biting your lip and placing your hand on your belly. “That I might be pregnant or somethin’.”
Terry raised an eyebrow, leaning closer. “For real? Do you think so? You wanna take a pregnancy test?” He asked, looking cupping your cheek.
You nodded, heart racing. “Yeah, I think I should. Just to know for sure.” With that, you got up slowly and headed to the bathroom, holding your breath.
You took the pregnancy test and set a timer for three minutes, anxiety bubbling inside you like a pot about to boil over. Those three minutes felt like hours, just as you were about to check.
Terry knocked gently on the door. “Is everything okay in there? Are you good, baby girl?” he asked, and you opened the door slightly, the test hidden behind your back.
“I…I think I might be,” you stuttered, feeling the tears welling up in your eyes. “I just—” Before you could finish, you pulled the test out, your hands trembling.
“Terry, I’m pregnant!” you blurted out, tears streaming down your face. He stared at the test in disbelief, his eyes widening before a huge smile broke across his face. “No way! Are you serious?!”
“Yup! Look!” You laughed through your tears, and Terry’s face lit up joyfully. “Baby, we gonna be parents!” He pulled you into a big hug, his own eyes misty.
“I can’t believe this, I’m so happy! We’re gonna do this together, you and me.” Terry said, kissing your face, causing you to giggle. “I know, I know! It’s a lot to take in, but I’m so excited,” you said, comfortingly.
A few days later, you had your first ultrasound appointment. As the nurse put the gel on your belly, Terry held your hand tightly, his thumb rubbing soothing circles on your palm.
The nurse pointed to the screen and showed your baby. Terry’s eyes filled with tears of joy. “Look at that!” he exclaimed, his voice shaky. “That’s our baby right there!”
“Yeah, it is!” You smiled, feeling the warmth of his happiness. “I can’t believe this is happening. We’re going to be a family,” Terry said, wiping his eyes.
“This is the best feeling in the world, I love you," he said, coming down to caress your hair. “I love you too, Terry. You're gonna be great, Dad,” you reassured him, feeling your heart swell with love.
Later that week, you planned a special announcement at your engagement dinner. You could feel the excitement as family and friends gathered around the table.
You exchanged glances with Terry, who gave you a reassuring nod. “Hi, everyone, can I have your attention for a moment?” you called out, your heart pounding.
“Terry and I have something special we would like to share with you all! "you said, and everyone turned to you both, waiting in anticipation.
You glanced up at Terry, who was grinning from ear to ear. “We’re having a baby! both of you said simultaneously. There was a moment of pure silence.
The room erupted in gasps and cheers. Sasha and Bryce were the first to say, "Congrats to you two!" Following them, Maya and Cam shouted from the back, "No way, congratulations!".
Then your parents and Terry's parents congratulated you, their excitement infectious. The room was filled with laughter, joy, and happy tears.
As the celebration continued, you felt a wave of comfort knowing you were surrounded by so much love and support. Terry looked down at you, his eyes sparkling. “We got this!.”
“You know it!” you exclaimed with a bright smile, leaning in closer to capture their lips in a tender kiss. The warmth of the moment enveloped you both, solidifying the promise of your love.
-
A few months passed, and you and Terry decided to move up the wedding date. The excitement and nerves were palpable as you headed to your wedding dress fitting your mom, Maya, and Sasha.
As you stood in front of the mirror, a wave of insecurity washed over you, tugging at the edges of your confidence. The wedding dress, a stunning creation adorned with delicate lace and shimmering embellishments, hung elegantly on your frame.
Yet, despite its beauty, it felt somehow off, as if it were meant for someone else. You studied your reflection closely, searching for that spark of joy you had anticipated, but instead, a sense of uncertainty clouded your thoughts.
You couldn't shake the feeling that, even in such a beautiful gown, you were still searching for the right fit—not just in fabric, but in how you truly felt as a bride.
You frowned, pulling at the fabric, and the slight weight gain from your pregnancy struck you. “I just don’t look right,” you muttered to Maya, who stood nearby, her eyes wide with concern.
“Girl, what you talkin’ ‘bout?” Maya asked, stepping closer, a comforting hand on your shoulder. “You look bomb! This wedding dress is made for you!”
“Sweetheart, don’t listen to that little voice of doubt in your head,” your mom said softly, moving closer to you and wrapping her arm around your shoulders. “You’re a stunning bride, and I promise you’re glowing with happiness today!”
Sasha, standing nearby with a warm smile, nodded in agreement. “Right! You’re radiating love and joy. Anyone who looks at you can see how beautiful you are!”
Despite the warmth of their words and the love surrounding you, a wave of emotion surged through you, causing tears to well up in your eyes.
“I just feel…different,” you admitted, your voice barely above a whisper as you bit your lip nervously. “I don’t feel pretty in this dress. I feel fat and ugly.”
Sasha shook her head vehemently, her curls bouncing as she turned to face you. “No, girl, don't say that,” Sasha reassured you, her eyes sparkling enthusiastically.
“Just wait until Terry sees you. He will be on the floor when you walk down that aisle!” She added, approached you, and gently wiped away the tears streaming down your face.
A heavy sigh escaped your lips, your heart feeling like a lead weight in your chest. “I just don’t know,” you murmured, uncertainty swirling in your mind.
“Let’s take some time to think about this,” your mom suggested gently, her voice calm and grounding. “We’ll come back another day. For now, head home and relax, sweetheart.”
You nodded, grateful for her understanding and support. “Okay,” you agreed softly, a small smile tugging at your lips as you made your way to change back into your comfortable clothes.
Once at home, you found yourself curled up on the couch, tears streaming down your cheeks. The weight of everything felt overwhelming.
It wasn't long before Terry walked in, and the sight of your tears stopped him in his tracks. “Baby?” he called softly, rushing over. “What’s going on? Are you okay?”
You sniffed, trying to compose yourself. “You’re going to think I’m crazy, but I just… I don’t feel good about myself. I don’t feel pretty for the wedding.”
Terry sat beside you, concern etched across his face. “Ain’t no way, baby girl. You are the most beautiful woman I know! Talk to me, what’s goin’ on?”
“I dunno, it’s just with the pregnancy, the wedding, and everything; I just feel like I ain’t good enough or pretty for you.” You buried your head in your hands, overwhelmed.
Terry removed your hands and gently lifted your chin so you’d look at him, his eyes whole of warmth. “Listen, baby, I love you, no matter what. You have this glow that nobody can take from you."
"You’re my whole world, and I know when I see you in that wedding dress, it's gonna take my breath away.” He continues. “You think so?” you asked, wiping your eyes.
“Absolutely. Now, let me make you some lunch. You need some food, especially our little one,” Terry said, standing up, as he headed to the kitchen.
Terry called over his shoulder, “And I’ll rub those tired feet of yours too!” You couldn’t help but smile. “You better!” A five minutes, he returned with a plate of your favorite food, setting it down in front of you.
“Here, eat this up,” Terry said, grabbing your feet and resting them on his lap. “I ain’t lettin’ you get away with feeling down ‘cause you deserve to feel like the queen you are.”
Terry started gently rubbing your feet, his touch soothing. “You have always been beautiful to me, and I never cared what size you were—I love just how you are. You are beautiful, baby.”
You couldn’t help but beam as you watched him, feeling your heart lighten. “You always know how to make me feel better, Terry. I love you so much.”
"That's my job, baby girl!" he said with a playful grin, leaning in to plant a soft kiss on your lips. His eyes sparkled with joy as he continued.
"And I love you too. I can't wait for the day we marry each other, get to make you Mrs. Richmond." His words warmed the air, making your heart flutter, excited about the future you both dreamed of.

Haircut
Summary: Javi thinks that he's way past due for a haircut. You like his hair long for reasons other than his good looks.
Word Count: 2.1K (I sprinted to write this after I saw this picture)
Pairing: Husband!Javi x Wife!Reader (no use of y/n, reader's nickname is Osita)
Warnings: SMUT (18+) Oral (f receiving), vaginal fingering, praise kink, (lovingly?) possessive Javi, Javi's back at again with his filthy mouth, hair pulling, Javi is hungry and the man is gonna EAT, allsions to more smut, Jonas Brother's references ( bc Javi is our girl dad king and his daughters love them LMAO)
A/N: Y'ALL REALLY THOUGHT THIS PICTURE OF PEDRO WAS SURFACE RIGHT HERE ON TUMBLR DOT COM AND I WASN'T GONNA DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT?!? WRONG. I legit have 3 WIPS I started in the past 24 hours based on this picture alone. Pedro really did this one for the Javier Peña girlies (gn) and I will forever be in debt to him for that. You cannot tell me that this is Dad!Javi when his kids are a little bit older bc HOLY SHIT?! This really may the nail in the coffin for @notjustjavierpena and I bc really fear this is the dilfiest Husband Javi has ever looked 😩😵💫 anyways, never getting over this!!!!

“God, I can’t even remember the last time my hair has been this long. Lucy keeps saying I look like a Jonas Brother. Am I supposed to know who they are? Is that supposed to be a good thing?” Javi sighed, playing with his dark brown curls in the bathroom mirror as you snuck up behind him, wrapping your arms around his waist, peeking out to watch your husband’s longer than usual locks twist between his fingers.
“They’re the goofy looking boy band on Disney Channel that the girls are obsessed with. Like the Backstreet Boys, except cooler, apparently.” You laughed, planting a soft kiss into the fabric of Javi’s worn t-shirt covering his broad back before stepping next to him, leaning your hip against the bathroom counter to admire your husband as he fiddled with his hair.
“Jesus Christ, those guys? God, I really do need a haircut before I start looking like the poster what’s-his-face hanging on Lucy and Elliot’s walls.” Javi chuckled, running his hand through his hair once more before mirroring you, his hip resting against the counter, leaning his weight on his palm splayed flat along the granite surface.
“Well, if it makes you feel any better, I think he’s supposed to be the best looking one.” You teased, giving Javi a playful shrug. “Besides, I like your hair long.”
“Seriously?” Javi asked, raising an eyebrow at you, crossing his arms over his chest in protest. “It looks like a mop right now.”
“A very sexy mop.” You smirked, nudging Javi before stepping closer into him, reaching up to run your hand through his curls, slowly twisting the ends with your fingers. “It reminds me of that trip we took to Jamaica a few years ago. Your hair was almost this long, remember? You looked so hot in those stupid floral button downs you insisted on buying, and hanging out shirtless by the pool all day while you played with the girls.”
“Fuck, I forgot about that. I’m surprised we didn’t end up with a fourth kid after that trip.” Javi chuckled, slowly shifting the palm that had been holding him up towards your waist, letting his fingers gently toy with the waistband of your pajamas. “You really like my long hair that much?”
“Mhmmmm.” You cooed, continuing to close the gap between your bodies, your free hand resting on Javi’s chest as the other continued to stroke his curls. You could feel a low groan rumbling in Javi’s throat as your fingers weaved back and forth through his hair, the other creeping up to cradle his jaw, thumb tracing back and forth across the stubble on his cheek.
“Yeah? What else do you like about it?” Javi groaned, his hand slipping under the elastic waistband of your pants to grab a fistfull of your ass, kneading the soft flesh in his hand.
“I like…” You paused, bringing your lips to Javi’s, pressing a tender kiss on his lips, “I like that it gives me something extra to hold on to.”
“Hold on to?” Javi asked, cocking his head in slight confusion.
“Hold on to when you go down on me. I love being able to run my hands through your hair when you eat me out, especially when it’s long like this.” You smirked, watching Javi’s eyes go wide in delight, a devilish grin spreading across his face as he bit down on his lip.
Before you could say anything else, Javi’s hands were gripping around your waist and hosting you up to sit on the counter, caging his body against yours, hands planted around the outside of your hips while his lips crashed into yours, your mouths becoming a tangled mess of tongue and teeth.
“Fuck…” Javi whispered to himself, pulling away from your lips to pepper kisses down your jaw and neck, running his hands over your thighs. “I love it when you play with my hair, Hermosa. Love feeling you pull on it when you’re close. Makes me lose my fucking mind every time. Fuck, I’d stay burried between your legs forever if I fucking could.”
Javi began to let his kisses trail down your body, past your chest and across your stomach before he was dropping to his knees in front of you, draping your legs across the width of his shoulders. Pulling at your waistband, you lifted your hips off the counter so your pajamas and underwear could fall to the floor, revealing the wetness that had been pooling between your thighs since you had walked into the bathroom a few minutes ago.
“Jesus Christ…” Javi whispered, further parting your legs to see the arousal already dripping through your folds, staring up at you with a boyish grin on his face, “So fucking wet for me, Hermosa. Didn’t realize you liked my hair that much.”
“Oh shut up you goof, you know I- o-oh fuck-” You whimpered, Javi cutting off the rest of your sentence as the flat of his tongue dragged across your cunt, the suddent sensation making you gasp in delight, already playing in to Javi’s plan as your hand shot down to his head, digging your fingers into his messy hair.
“Better hold on tight, querida. There’s a lot more where that came from.” Javi smirked, pulling away just enough to see the smug smile between his cheeks, peppering a few wet kisses on the inside of your thighs before his head was back between your legs, placing a soft kiss on your clit, already aching and throbbing for more of what you had just been promised.
“Do your worst, Peña.”
That one sent a low growl of approval humming through his chest, laughing to himself as his hands gripped tighter around your thighs, fingertips digging into the soft flesh of your skin before another slow, broad stroke of his tongue was traveling through your folds.
While you were truly convinced there wasn’t another man who loved going down on their wife more than your husband did, you could always tell when Javi wanted nothing more than to stay buried between your thighs, making you cum over and over until you were begging him to stop, lapping up every last drop of you until there was nothing left to give, and right now, you already knew Javi meant what he said when you were about to have to hold on for dear life.
The hand buried in the dark waves of Javi’s hair only began to tug tighter as his tongue began to work meticulously across your cunt, pressing just enough pressure against your sensitive bundle of nerves to already have you a squirming, whimpering mess, but painstakingly slow enough to have you begging for more.
“Javi… Oh, shit. Fuck, more baby, please. P-please.” You moaned, looking down at Javi with what you were already sure was a wrecked expression painted across your face.
You could practically feel Javi’s smug smirk pressed against your cunt as he eased one, then two fingers into your aching core, curling them to bump against the spongy spot inside you that already had you fisting at the edge of the bathroom counter to try and keep your composure, and better yet, your voice down.
“Oh my god, f-fuck. You feel so good, baby.” You moaned, feeling the strong arch of Javi’s nose bumping against your clit, placing a soft kiss there before the flat of his tongue licked another long, broad stroke across your cunt, putting just the right amount of pressure on your sensitive bundle of nerves as his fingers worked in tandem to send the sweet tingling sensation to start building in your spine.
“Fuck, I love this perfect pussy so much. I still can’t believe she’s all fucking mine. My perfect fucking wife. Tell me, Hermosa, whose pussy is this?” Javi asked, pulling away for you to see your slick covering his mustache and the lustful look pooling in the dark brown of his eyes, the quiet possessiveness of his tone making your cunt clench even tighter around his fingers as they continued to pulse in and out of you.
“It’s y-yours, Javi, It’s all- fuck- It’s all yours.” You whined, your breath hitching in your throat as you spoke.
“And who’s the only one who makes you feel like this, huh?” Javi tutted, sliding a third finger into your heat, the sweet stretch and sting making you let out a ragged whimper as you threw your head back in pleasure.
“Y-you- Jesus- Y-you are, Javi.”
“And who’s gonna be a good girl and soak my face when she cums for me?”
“M-me.”
“That’s fucking right, you are.” Javi growled before diving back between your legs, working his tongue relentlessly against your clit, circling and flicking in fast and firm motions as his fingers curled deeper into your core, eating you up like a man starved, desperate to make you fall apart.
You could already feel the coil in your stomach beginning to tighten from the way Javi was working so relentlessly to make you come undone, drinking every ounce of you up as his lips latched around your sensitive bundle of nerves, making your back arch and mind go blank while that all too familiar tingle began to creep through your core, cunt beginning to clench tighter and tighter around him.
At this point, your fingers were tugging so tightly around the soft, brown curls of his locks to try and hold yourself together, that you were convinced that you were close to pulling his hair out of his skull, but with the way you were on the brink of collapse from the way Javi’s mouth was working against your cunt, you almost didn’t have a choice.
“Fuck, Javi. Oh shit- Baby, I’m so close. Don’t stop.”
“I won’t stop, mi amor. Won’t stop until this pretty pussy fucking soaks me.” Javi mewled, peeking his head out from under you just enough so that his sweet, brown eyes were locked with yours, the hot words of his breath dancing against your pussy as his fingers continued to rock in and out of you. “I’ve got you, Osita. Promento. Damelo, bebita. (I promise. Give it to me, baby).”
Before you could respond, your jaw dropped open and face scrunched in pleasure as Javi dove back in, burying his face in your cunt as each press of his tongue became more firm and precise than the last, feeling your pussy begin to flutter as you clutched tighter around the edge of the counter, trying to keep from screaming out in pleasure and raise any suspicion. But as your legs began to tremble and your heart race, teetering on the brink of collapse, it was taking every ounce of willpower you had left to make that happen.
“Fuck, Javi. Fuck, I- fuck- I’m gonna, I’m gonna-ahhhhhh.” You whimpered, feeling your orgasm crash through you, pleasure radiating in your veins as you fell apart, losing all inhibitions to keep yourself quiet as you threw your head back in all consuming bliss. With his fingers still buried in your cunt, gently working you through your high, Javi shot back up, his mouth engulfing yours in an electric kiss to try and capture your ragged moans that had been coating the walls of the bathroom, the tangy taste of you still lingering on his lips.
Your heartbeat finally began to slow, your chest heaving in long, heavy breaths as you slumped into Javi, your head resting on his shoulder as your hands stayed buried deep in his hair, grasping onto his now sweat-dampened ends to try and pull yourself back down to reality.
After a few moments of letting you come to, Javi gently pulled out his fingers, all three drenched and glistening with your slick, pulling them out and bringing them to his mouth, sucking them clean with a devilish smirk of satisfaction on his face.
“God, you taste so fucking sweet. You really weren’t kidding about the hair, huh Hermosa?” Javi chuckled, cupping your jaw to cradle your cheek with his broad palm, forcing your gaze up at him.
“I told you.” You giggled softly, still trying to catch your breath as you smiled at him, pulling him in for another long, tender kiss. “Hottest looking Jonas Brother I’ve ever seen.”
The two of you burst out into laughter, practically snorting at your comment, taking a second to compose yourselves as Javi crossed his arms over his chest, rolling his eyes at you.
“If that’s the fucking case, I’m getting out the clippers tonight.”
“Not until you take me to bed and do this all again, you aren’t.”

Finally, you spot him, still basking in the afterglow of his victory. He sees you and his face lights up even more. You run to him, throwing your arms around his neck as he lifts you off the ground in a joyful embrace.
"I'm so proud of you!" you exclaim, planting a kiss on his cheek.
Lewis grins, setting you down but keeping you close. "Thank you, love. I couldn't have done it without you."
You pull back slightly, a mischievous glint in your eye. "I have a surprise for you."
His eyebrows raise in curiosity. "A surprise? What is it?"
"You'll see," you reply with a playful smile.
After the race, you and Lewis head to the airport. He’s clearly puzzled but goes along with it, his curiosity growing with each passing moment. You board a private plane, and as you settle into your seats, he turns to you with an amused smile.
"Where are we going?" he asks.
"You'll see," you repeat, enjoying the anticipation.
The flight is smooth and quick, filled with light conversation and shared excitement. As the plane begins its descent, Lewis looks out the window, his eyes widening as he recognizes the coastline.
"Is this... Jamaica?" he asks, turning to you with a mix of surprise and delight.
You nod, a big smile spreading across your face. "Yes. You always spoil me, buy me things, and take me on trips. I thought it was my turn."
Lewis's expression softens, his eyes filled with love and gratitude. "You did all this for me?"
You nod again, feeling a warm glow in your heart. "I wanted to do something special for you. You deserve it."
He pulls you into a tender kiss, his lips lingering on yours as if to express just how much this means to him. "Thank you," he whispers against your lips. "This is incredible."
You both disembark and head to your villa, a stunning beachfront property with a breathtaking view of the ocean. The moment you step inside, you feel the excitement of the adventure that awaits.
The sun rises over the pristine shores of Jamaica, casting a golden hue across the turquoise waters. As you stretch and open your eyes, you feel the warmth of the Caribbean sun seeping through the curtains of your cozy beachfront bungalow. Next to you, Lewis stirs, his face breaking into a sleepy smile as he meets your gaze. Today is the start of an adventure, a day filled with surfing, scuba diving, and the joy of being together in one of the most beautiful places on earth.
You two start your morning with a leisurely breakfast on the veranda. The ocean breeze carries the scent of saltwater and tropical flowers as you enjoy fresh fruit, pastries, and the best coffee you've ever tasted. You can't help but feel a surge of happiness as you look out at the crystal-clear water, knowing that soon you'll be out there, riding the waves with Lewis by your side.
After breakfast, you head down to the beach where surfboards await. Lewis, with his boundless energy and enthusiasm, eagerly helps you carry the boards to the water’s edge. The sand is warm beneath your feet, and the sound of the waves crashing gently against the shore fills the air. You can see the excitement in Lewis's eyes, his love for adventure and the ocean mirroring your own.
With a few quick lessons from a friendly local instructor, you're ready to hit the waves. Lewis is a seasoned surfer as he rides his first wave with ease. You watch, cheering him on, before taking your own board and paddling out. The feeling of catching your first wave is exhilarating, and the look of pride on Lewis's face as he watches you succeed is even more rewarding.

The hours fly by as you both ride wave after wave, laughing and cheering each other on. There are a few tumbles and wipeouts, but each one is met with laughter and encouragement. By the time you finally decide to take a break, you're both exhilarated and exhausted, ready for the next part of your adventure.
After a quick lunch at a beachside café, where you enjoy fresh seafood and tropical drinks, it's time for scuba diving. You've both been looking forward to this, eager to explore the vibrant underwater world of Jamaica. As you board the boat that will take you to the dive site, you feel a mix of excitement and a little bit of nervousness.
Lewis, ever the reassuring presence, holds your hand and gives it a comforting squeeze. "It's going to be amazing," he says, his eyes sparkling with excitement. "Just think about all the incredible things we're going to see down there."
The dive instructor gives you a thorough briefing, making sure you're both comfortable with the equipment and the plan for the dive. As you slip into the cool, clear water and begin your descent, the world above fades away, replaced by the mesmerizing beauty of the coral reef below.
The underwater world is even more breathtaking than you imagined. Vibrant coral formations in every color imaginable stretch out before you, teeming with life. Schools of tropical fish dart around, their bright colors flashing in the sunlight that filters down from above. You spot a graceful sea turtle gliding by, and Lewis points excitedly, his eyes wide with wonder.
Exploring the reef together feels like discovering a hidden paradise. You and Lewis swim side by side, sharing silent moments of awe and wonder. Every now and then, you reach out to each other, a gentle touch to share the experience. The beauty of the underwater world and the presence of Lewis make it a magical, unforgettable experience.
As you surface and climb back onto the boat, you both can’t stop smiling. The boat ride back to shore is filled with excited chatter about everything you saw and experienced. You lean against Lewis, feeling the warmth of his skin and the happiness of being together in this incredible place.

Back on land, you spend the afternoon exploring the local town, wandering through colorful markets and charming streets. You sample local treats, browse for souvenirs, and take countless photos to capture the memories. The locals are friendly and welcoming, and you find yourselves chatting with them, learning about their lives and the rich culture of Jamaica.
As the sun begins to set, painting the sky in shades of pink and orange, you return to your bungalow to freshen up for dinner. Tonight, you've planned something special: a candlelit dinner on the beach. The restaurant has set up a private table right by the water, complete with flickering candles and soft, romantic music.
When you arrive, hand in hand, the scene is like something out of a dream. The gentle sound of the waves provides the perfect backdrop as you're led to your table. The waitstaff is attentive, bringing you a delicious array of dishes made from fresh, local ingredients. Each bite is a taste of paradise, and you savor every moment.
As you finish your meal, the strains of "Could You Be Loved" by Bob Marley begin to play. The familiar, soothing melody fills the air, and you feel a rush of emotions. Lewis stands and extends his hand, a loving smile on his face. "Dance with me?" he asks softly.
You take his hand, and he leads you onto the sand. The candlelight flickers around you, and the world seems to fade away as you move together to the rhythm of the music. With each step, you feel the love and connection between you growing stronger. Lewis holds you close, his eyes locked on yours, and you can see the depth of his feelings in his gaze.
"I love you," he whispers, his voice filled with emotion. "More than anything in this world. You've made every moment of this trip unforgettable, and I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you."
Tears fill your eyes as you look at him, overwhelmed by the intensity of your feelings. "I love you too, Lewis," you reply, your voice trembling with emotion. "You've brought so much joy and adventure into my life. I can't imagine doing any of this without you."
You continue to dance, lost in each other's embrace, as the song plays on. The stars shine brightly above, and the world seems to stand still, just for the two of you. In that moment, everything feels perfect – the beauty of the setting, the love you share, and the promise of many more adventures to come.
As the song ends, you linger in each other's arms, reluctant to let go of the magic of the moment. The night is still young, and there's so much more to explore and experience together. But for now, you simply hold each other, grateful for the love and the memories you've created in this beautiful place.

The next morning, you wake up early again, eager to make the most of your time in Jamaica. Today, you've planned a hike through the lush, tropical rainforest to a hidden waterfall. With a packed picnic and a sense of adventure, you set off hand in hand.
The hike is a beautiful journey through dense foliage, vibrant with the sounds of exotic birds and the rustling of leaves. You and Lewis take your time, stopping to marvel at the incredible diversity of plants and animals around you. Along the way, you share stories, laugh at each other's jokes, and feel a deep sense of connection with nature and each other.
When you finally reach the waterfall, the sight takes your breath away. Crystal-clear water cascades down into a serene pool, surrounded by lush greenery. It's like stepping into a tropical paradise, and you can hardly believe you're here.
Lewis grins and tugs you towards the water. "Let's go for a swim!" he says, his excitement contagious.

You quickly change into your swimsuits and wade into the cool, refreshing water. Swimming beneath the waterfall is an exhilarating experience, the powerful rush of water cascading around you. You and Lewis splash and play, laughing like children, completely lost in the joy of the moment.
After your swim, you find a sunny spot on the rocks to enjoy your picnic. The simple meal tastes incredible in this beautiful setting, and you savor every bite. As you relax and soak up the sun, Lewis wraps his arm around you, pulling you close.
"This has been the best vacation ever," he says, his voice filled with contentment. "Every moment with you is perfect."
You smile and snuggle closer, feeling the same way. "I couldn't agree more. I feel so lucky to be here with you."
The rest of the day is spent exploring more of the rainforest, discovering hidden trails and breathtaking viewpoints. Each new discovery feels like a shared secret, something special just for the two of you. By the time you make your way back to the bungalow, you're both exhausted but incredibly happy.
That evening, you decide to have a quiet night in. You order room service and enjoy a delicious dinner on your veranda, watching the stars twinkle above the ocean. The sound of the waves is soothing, and you feel a deep sense of peace and contentment.
As you sit together, Lewis takes your hand and looks into your eyes. "I love you more than words can say," he whispers. "Thank you for making this trip so unforgettable."
You smile, your heart full of love. "I love you too, Lewis. Thank you for being my adventure partner and the love of my life."

Assistant! Reader x Harry Styles Masterlist
So instead of doing one full-fledged fic, because lets be real I'm terrible at updating consistently, I decided to share this story through a series of oneshots. Some of them have already been written, and in my head I kind of have their story mapped out, but this way y'all can request if there are interactions or moments you want to see from them over the course of their relationship! The timeline here is what I have so far, but I'm always thinking, always writing, so more is definitely to come!
2013 - Assistant!Reader struggles to get Harry up and out of his hotel room after a night of partying
2013 - One Direction and Vegas usually means partying at the fanciest night clubs, but this time around Harry finds himself wanting to spend his time doing something else.
2014 - Harry is upset about a breakup, and Assistant!Reader is there to comfort him. Dance Moms is also involved...
2016 - Harry and Assistant!Reader meet for coffee post-hiatus. One of them is not as pleased to see the other...
2016 - Jamaica.
2020 - Harry isn't the only person who gets interviewed at the Vogue shoot.

Peaky Blinders (Little Lady Blinder) Masterlist
Peaky Blinders (Non-Shelby!Sister) Masterlist
Clara watched the long hand of her brother's old pocket watch as it moved around the clock face, the quiet ticks and tocks seeming to mock her as they seemed to slow and delay in her mind.
After what had seemed like an eternity squashed into a mere morning and early afternoon, she was basically caught up on the books. Or at least, if she wasn't precisely caught up, Clara wasn't feeling particularly motivated to keep working on them. Not that she'd been doing anything that could really be considered ‘work’ for the last hour and a half.
Shoving the pocketwatch away, she glanced at Isiah. He was across the room in Finn’s office, twirling a pencil in his fingers. Clara wasn't sure what he was meant to be ‘working’ on in her brother's office, but she assumed pencil twirling wasn't it.
It had been a slow afternoon. No one had been keen on laying bets or working, so the shop had emptied early. Everyone had finished up their day's work and gone home.
In this heat, Clara didn't blame them. Despite the mound of work she had to complete for her brother, she didn't want to be here either.
Clara had already shed her sweater. She couldn't respectably lose any more layers or she'd be left in just her slip, but she longed for it. She longed for a breeze or dip in one of the ponds on the grounds of Arrow House. She longed for a chunk of ice from the ice box in the kitchen. She longed for the end of this Friday afternoon, the end to this stale, sticky existence.
Clara pushed herself back from the desk—Tommy's desk, though he never used it anymore. The chair was more hers than his these days. Tommy had once said it could be Clara’s one day—the boss's chair—but even though it was her who sat in it more than him, Clara wasn't the boss. Today, she felt no better than any other working person staring at the clock and waiting for the end of their shift. It seemed that was all she’d done all day.
She'd have to come back and finish what she hadn’t accomplished before the end of the month—over the weekend or early before she was due at the Jamaica Row office on Monday morning. It wasn't smart putting it off, but Clara didn't care. The heat had zapped any sense of caring from her system, leeching all of the diligent conscientiousness she was known for straight out of her.
"What are the odds we get caught out if we lock up early?”
Isiah's foot fell off the desk and slammed against the floor, Clara's sudden presence in the room startling him more than it should have considering a wall of windows lined the office and he’d faced that way, his glossy gaze set out toward the empty shop she crossed over on her way to get to him.
"Christ, Clara—Trying to stop my fucking heart, eh?"
Clara sighed, rolling her eyes at Isiah’s dramatics out of nothing more than habit. The whole bit was familiar. He usually would have wrapped her head in an arm, ruffling her hair as retribution, but today he barely moved, barely even allowed the muscles of his mouth to pull into a smirk.
Clara was glad for it because if Isiah laid a hand on her, Clara thought she might scream. The idea of him coming anywhere near her in this heat, of his warm hand in her already frizzy hair…she felt warmer just thinking about it.
"The only thing I'm trying to do is stop working."
"You're finished?”
Clara shrugged. She didn't have it in her to lie, but she didn’t quite want to admit she’d been doing close to nothing all day either. "Are you?'
"I've been done for hours."
"What are you sitting in here for, then?"
She could see that she wasn't the only warm one. Isiah had rolled his shirt sleeves. Sweat beaded on his forehead as he looked at her with a raised eyebrow. She couldn't imagine why he'd choose to sit here when he could be anywhere else.
Isiah raised an eyebrow. "What do you think?"
"Fucking hell. You’re babysitting. Tommy's such a—"
“Finn," Isiah interrupted.
"What?"
"It was Finn’s idea. Said 'I've got a meeting across town. Keep an eye on her.’ Not Tom."
Clara hummed, filing that annoying development away to complain about later. For today it was an order from Finn’s mouth, but before Finn, it had been John, and before that, she knew the order had originated with Tommy and Arthur. Tommy, who Isiah no routinely called 'Tom' and defended, as if they were friends. On the same side of things. Clara let the thought go, too hot for the annoyance that came with thinking too hard on her brothers.
"Where'd Finn go, anyway?'
"Meeting across town," Isiah answered, repeating the words with a smirk.
Clara breathed deeply, stifling the urge to hit him. She could imagine herself doing it, the satisfaction of her open palm—all clammy and swollen with the heavy moisture of the air—smacking against Isiah’s stupid, sweaty forehead.
“I just said.” Isiah added, stupid grin still on his face. “The heat getting to you, there, Miss Shelby?”
It was hotter in Finn's office than it was in Tommy's. There were no windows to the outside here, no airflow. Clara pulled at her dress, the fabric sticking to her collarbone as she tried to catch some relief.
“I meant who’s he with?”
Isiah shrugged. “Afraid that's above my pay grade. Can’t be asking after the boss’s whereabouts now, can I, love?”
Clara rolled her eyes. Finn wasn’t any sort of boss, not really, even if he was acting like it lately. And the amount of things that fell above Isiah's pay grade had dwindled over the last few years. She was nearly certain Isiah knew exactly who Finn was meeting with and what it was about, but she let it go, figuring that if it was important or relevant to her, he'd have just told her. The fact that he was playing with her told her it wasn't either of those things.
“Fine. Tell me, love, does the 'boss' have anything good in that drawer there?” Clara nodded toward the desk and Isiah shook his head, chuckling.
“What are you shaking your head for? What’s he going to do?” she asked. “Fire us for borrowing his whiskey and skiving off?”
“Tom—”
“I don’t care what Tommy or Arthur or John or Finn has said. It’s hot and there’s no reason for us to be cooped up here. I’ll take my chances with the lot of them.” Clara reached down, pulling out the bottle of whiskey. She opened it and took a slug before she handed the bottle to Isiah. After he drank, Clara held a hand out to him.
He raised an eyebrow, glancing at the hand they both knew was clammy and damp with sweat. Clara ran her hand down the side of her dress before presenting it again.
Isiah rolled his eyes as he slipped his hand into hers and Clara groaned, dropping his slicked hand in an instant. Isiah smirked as he ran his hand down the side of her skirts same as Clara had just done. No other man would’ve dared to slide his hand down Clara Shelby’s side like that, but this was Isiah and they were alone in the shop—no prying eyes to watch over them for a change.
“You’re insufferable.”
Isiah chuckled. “You’ve said so plenty enough.”
“Because it’s true.”
“Well, between you and me, it’s mutual.”
Clara yanked his hand then, pulling him out of the chair and to his feet. Isiah stumbled for her benefit.
“You’re testy today.”
“I’m hot,” Clara answered, walking towards the staircase. She tugged Isiah along up the first few steps, her arm straining as Isiah stopped on the third step from the bottom.
“And we’re going to the second floor to cool off?”
Clara took a deep breath before stopping and turning back to Isiah.
“We’re all locked up?”
Isiah nodded. He'd gone around to check all of the doors after Finn headed out. “Have been for hours.”
“Good, now shut up and do what you're told.”
Isiah snorted. “Yes, ma’am.”
Clara smirked at that. At least someone respected her. Even if it was just Isiah, and even if he was only playing, the telltale smile tugging at his lips, a bit of glee right there dancing in his eyes. Because even with those things present, Clara knew some part of it was genuine. Isiah respected her more than most people in her life. Believed in her more than most, too. And he had always offered up a bit of his power in the context of their relationship, allowing her to win on most things.
Not every single thing, but most.
Enough of the time that Clara knew when he was doing it.
As they moved up the stairs, the heat wrapped around them like a blanket. Someone had shut all of the windows, the air up there even more stale than it had been down in the shop.
Clara had a moment of doubt while the stifling heat grew, smothering them both and challenging Clara's breathing. Sweat collected on her back and chest under her clothes. She cursed in her head that maybe Isiah was right. Maybe there was no relief to be found on this Friday afternoon, not unless she wanted to give in and head out to her brother's house.
But Clara didn’t want to. If she did, Tommy would have questions about the books and whether or not she’d caught up yet. She didn’t have it in her to try to lie to him. If she was being honest, she didn’t have it in her for much of anything except simply being.
Walking the stairs of her childhood home with Isiah’s hand growing sweaty in hers, Clara was reminded of simpler days. Of times when she’d been just allowed to be. Even then, she’d been an anxious child. Overwhelmed and feeling like she was pulled in a million different ways, but looking back on it now, Clara was nostalgic for a certain freedom inherent to childhood. A certain freedom that came with not fully understanding the actions and motivations of the adults surrounding her.
She had always sought to understand, had always wanted to be a part of things, and now that she was—now that she and Isiah both were thoroughly integrated parts of the things they’d once begged to be included in—Clara would give anything for the two of them to go back to before.
To be reading together from a book, or pretending to be Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson. To be just two kids in their own little bubble, just the two of them against the world. It was a lovely thought, accompanied by a lovely feeling of nostalgia and as they stepped onto the second floor—just the two of them there within the walls of number 6 Watery Lane—Clara thought maybe it could still be the case.
The times were less frequent these days, but there were still moments when Clara would catch Isiah's gaze across the room, the two of them immediately caught up in some secret conversation that no one else even knew was taking place.
And sometimes, the two of them would dance, and as Isiah spun Clara around, she could’ve sworn there was no one else in the world. On those occasions, it was as if the music played of its own accord, no one needed to pull the strings or croon the melodies, the two of them feeling anonymous and alone even though they were surrounded by other couples.
“Come on, Siah,” Clara said as she tugged Isiah’s hand, some part of her certain that she could reach out and grasp that feeling, as if it was something she could trap and hold onto, keeping it close to her heart.
Isiah smiled at Clara’s impatience, his body so near to hers that he could feel the heat radiating off her back, a warmth separate from that of the air around them, almost pulsing between them.
Clara dropped his hand as she stepped into her bedroom, still neat and tidy and kept as if the 12-year-old girl she once was still lived there. As she moved toward the window, Clara pressed the whiskey bottle into Isiah’s hand, not bothering to look back to confirm it was within his grasp before she let go.
Isiah leaned against her dresser, watching as she struggled with the window, the wooden frame stiff and swollen and thoroughly stuck from the heat and years of disuse.
As he watched, Isiah wondered...when was the last time Clara Shelby had climbed out through her bedroom window? When was the last time Isiah Jesus had climbed out with her?
Neither of them could remember, and it seemed like the room had forgotten as well, the window remaining belligerently shut even as Clara dug in her heels and leveraged all of her strength in trying to raise the pane, a new layer of sweat gleaming at her hairline as she struggled.
“Alright,” Isiah started as he eased off the dresser, the whiskey bottle set aside. “Let me—”
“No!” Clara answered, her voice booming with the strength of her struggle as she kicked a leg out in Isiah’s general direction to keep him back. “I’ll get it. You choose a book.”
Clara sent her foot out again, this time directing it toward the other side of the room, and Isiah turned to follow the direction of her kick, straight to the chair beside her bed where a stack of books sat piled dangerously high.
The pile was a mix of old and new, a selection of books from her childhood and few of her more recent favorites interspersed with a few of the books Isiah remembered as coming from Tommy’s shelf. Those books had once been forbidden to Clara, but Isiah supposed they were far beyond forbidden books at this stage. And Tommy Shelby had far bigger concerns than what types of books his sister was reading.
Isiah fished a book out of the pile before returning his attention to Clara. He was about to sit down on her bed to watch the show of her struggle when the window flew open, the sudden movement accompanied by a rush of air and a celebratory shout from Clara.
“I told you I would get it,” she said, wiping the sweat from her brow as she turned to him.
Isiah rolled his eyes fondly and crossed the room to grab the whiskey, a swallowed comment on the tip of his tongue because even though Isiah and Clara usually passed quips back and forth, he was more interested in getting out on the roof, more interested in the reprieve of fresh air. Isiah pressed the book and bottle into Clara's hands before swinging himself out through the window.
Isiah was through in a small span of seconds, but it was certainly a more difficult maneuver than he remembered now that his body was all long limbs and the window seemed infinitely smaller than it once was.
Reaching back through the frame, he took the book and the bottle Clara handed off. Isiah set them both aside before holding his hand out back through the open window.
“I can—”
“Just let me help, won’t you?” Isiah interrupted. He wiped his hand down the front of his pants before holding it out again. “Gotta fight me about everything.”
“I’m not—” Clara grasped his hand, allowing Isiah to tug her through, and letting go once she was steady on her feet. “—fighting. I just—”
“Can do it yourself,” Isiah answered. “I know. Doesn’t mean you should always have to.”
Clara huffed even though a part of her appreciated the sentiment. She tried to be independent. She tried to do everything for herself. She tried to prove how smart and strong and capable she was to just about everyone, but she didn’t have to prove any of that to Isiah.
Clara unbuttoned the top of her dress, gently fanning herself with the loose fabric as she looked over the courtyard. She took a deep breath, grateful for the grey and cloudy Birmingham skies that shielded them from the heady rays of sun she usually craved.
The roof outside of her bedroom wasn’t exactly the reprieve she had imagined, but it was marginally better than the dense staleness of the shop and her bedroom.
“Romeo and Juliet?” Clara asked as she lowered herself to the roof and reached for the book. “Really, Isiah?”
While Clara enjoyed her Shakespeare, the play hadn’t exactly been her favorite, and her memories of the piece were tainted by the fact that she’d first read it at school, with Juliet’s role going to a girl she wasn’t particularly fond of. Clara would’ve preferred to revisit Sherlock Holmes or one of Tommy’s old books.
Isiah shrugged and sat down beside her, reaching for the bottle. “Reminded me of when you tried stepping out with that Italian kid.”
He said it as if he didn’t remember the name of the ‘Italian kid.' As if it had been nothing but a blip. As if her social connections hadn’t gotten her into nothing but trouble that year and been the source of arguments between her and her family, and her and Isiah.
Clara shoved Isiah’s shoulder.
“I wasn’t stepping out with anyone.”
It had been a friendship. Maybe with a hint of a crush, but there had been no stepping out. Nothing close. Her brothers' reputation had seen to that.
“And anyway, it’s more like when you were stepping out with that Cheapie girl.”
Isiah raised an eyebrow. “What are you on about?”
“Ruth,” Clara answered. “Practically Wally Bartow in a dress.”
He snorted. “It was one dance, Clara. Didn’t even know her name. Had no clue she was a Bartow.”
Clara shrugged. “You looked awfully cozy if I remember properly.”
“Well, that’s just how I dance, love.” Isiah winked at her before taking a swig from the bottle. “You know that better than anyone.
“And I'm sorry to inform you, but if either of us is destined to have a love life like these two—” Isiah nodded towards the book. “—it’s you. No matter who you end up with, it’ll be like Montagues and Capulets. Shelbys against whatever poor sap you choose.”
Isiah knocked her shoulder, the touch telling her it was only a joke. Clara stayed leaning against him as long as she could manage in the heat before prying the bottle from his fingers to take a sip.
“Ada says us Shelby girls are cursed that way.”
Isiah reached for the book, thumbing through the pages rather than answering. He had an idea about that particular curse. He had been old enough to remember how Ada’s marriage had been handled, and even if he hadn’t been, Isiah knew how Clara was being managed.
How they both had been managed for years now.
Isiah reached out for the bottle, taking another swig before he started reading.
“Two households, both alike in dignity, In fair Verona, where we lay our scene…”
They passed a few hours reading and talking and sipping from the bottle, the pair moving on to gentle conversation interspersed with quotes from Shakespeare’s catalog once the pages became too difficult to read in the dimming light. Lost in the throes of conversation, easy laughter and the cooling night breeze, Isiah and Clara were suspended in what felt like a world that was just their own, their sense of time and place and awareness pushed aside.
Clara was giggling at some obscure quote Isiah had pulled seemingly out of nowhere when Isiah sensed suddenly that the world was no longer theirs alone, his attention gone to the far end of the shared courtyard, a familiar chorus of boisterous laughter reaching his ear from across the space.
Isiah was faintly aware of Clara naming the play he’d quoted before she shared her next quote, a gentle laughter lacing her words as she spoke, but the awareness of his heart pounding against his chest was stronger, a sudden urge to quiet her—to shield their presence there on the roof—taking over.
Overcome with that urge, Isiah could’ve shushed her or set his hand over her mouth to stifle the words.
Or he could've taken a breath and calmed himself and simply let her finish.
It wasn't as if they were doing anything wrong. There was no reason to hide.
Isiah could have let Clara tell him, ‘I do desire we may be better strangers,’ before dissolving into giggles. He could’ve then told her the quote was from ‘As You Like It,’ a quote which he was intimately familiar with because Clara had directed it at him and Finn a number of times before, sometimes in jest, sometimes because she wished to hurt them.
No one would question Isiah and Clara being out on the roof with a book and a bottle of whiskey, least of all Finn. People were plenty used to their antics, but something felt different tonight so Isiah only let Clara get half a sentence out before he placed his hand at the back of her head, drawing her in close and pressing his lips to hers in the dark, catching her words and quieting her so efficiently that it was nearly silent on the roof as Finn and the junior Peaky Boys passed over the back threshold of no. 6.
The kiss only lasted a few seconds, but Isiah felt Clara’s whole body relax within his touch. She leaned into the hand he cradled behind her head, allowing him to deepen the kiss he hadn’t intended on giving in the first place, her hands reaching out for him, her fingernails grazing his scalp in a way that sent shivers down his spine.
Isiah pulled away, but even so, for a moment, he forgot where he was. He forgot why he’d kissed her, or at least he’d forgotten whatever justification he’d initially provided himself for pressing his lips to hers. He forgot about Finn and the boys. He forgot about Shakespeare and feuds and consequences. With his warm hand still on the back of Clara’s sweaty neck, barely able to see the details of her now flushed face, it was once again just the two of them there in the world.
With their faces still so close that Clara could feel Isiah’s warm whiskey-tinged breath on her face, her eyes shifted to his lips. She couldn’t remember what they were talking about before. She didn’t know why he’d kissed her. She had heard the back door slam, some part of her aware of her twin's proximity, an awareness Aunt Polly had always tol her was part of her gifts, but as Clara pulled Isiah's lips back to hers, she found she didn’t care to remember there was more to the world than the two of them and this.
She didn’t want to question it, and yet, Clara was first to pull away this time, her ears far more sensitive to the familiar sound of someone turning the handle of her childhood bedroom’s door than Isiah was. With a sudden swiftness, she removed herself from Isiah’s hold and pushed him back against the roof as she extended her hand up to the sky.
“There you are,” Finn said, sticking his head out the open window to see what Clara was pointing at. "What are the two of you out here for?"
Clara tilted her head back to her brother. “Constellations and Shakespeare. Would you like to join us?” she asked, the words feeling odd to her as they passed through her swollen lips.
“No,” Finn snorted. “It's payday. We’re heading to the Garrison, and then maybe to a few other—”
“No, thank you. I'm staying here,” Clara answered, even though it wasn’t exactly an invite Finn had extended, but more of a declaration. An order.
A flash of something passed over Finn’s face. Clara could barely see it in the dark, but she figured it was a bit of annoyance, maybe, or a touch of shock at being refused. It seemed like more and more, Finn was coming to expect the same sort of compliance from Clara that the others did, forgetting that it was mere minutes that separated their births rather than years.
“It’s too hot, Finn,” Clara added, her tone a bit softer. “I have no desire to be holed up in the snug, squashed between you lot.”
“Alright, then. Isiah?” Finn tried.
“She’s got a point, mate.”
Clara heard someone shouting from the floor below, the details muffled by the shut door, but Finn seemed to recognize their meaning well enough.
"Are you sure?" Clara sensed the question was for Isiah even though they could barely see each other's faces in the growing dark. "Drinks are on Shelby Company Ltd. tonight," Finn added, as if Isiah's drinks weren't usually on the house, anyway.
"It's alright. You go ahead with the boys," Isiah offered. "I'll keep an eye on Clara."
Clara's elbow twitched, the desire to ram it into Isiah's ribcage surging as she caught the hint of a smirk on Isiah's face, but Clara stopped herself knowing that it had been the right thing to say.
Finn nodded his understanding in the dark, his attention pulled to the stairs once again by a sudden noise.
"Don't fall asleep out there, Clara."
Clara heaved a breath to stop herself from telling him he had no business telling her where she could or couldn't fall asleep, but Isiah beat her to it, telling Finn he would handle it.
No matter that Finn would likely be the one who needed assistance finding his bed before the night was through...
"Have a good night," Finn said as he stepped away from the window, leaving Isiah and Clara alone. They leaned back against the roof, the two of them staring at the sky in silence as they listened to the sounds of Finn and the boys heading out through the back door, their shouting and laughter echoing as they traversed the shared courtyard.
When the echoes died away, Clara stretched out her fingers, seeking the familiar roughness of Isiah’s palm.
“That was bad,” Isiah said, his fingers closing around hers. “Close...we almost got caught.”
Clara heaved a breath before turning to face him. “There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.”
Isiah snorted. He glanced briefly to his right to meet Clara's gaze in the dark before tipping his head back to the sky.
"Hamlet," Isiah answered softly, squeezing her hand gently before releasing her fingers.
They had been through this time and time again, the two of them dancing around the label of what they were. Friends. Best friends. Something more. They had settled on friends as far as most of the world was concerned, but that didn’t mean the lines weren’t still blurry at times, their belligerent feelings tangled and confused and persistent. For years now, they had maintained a mostly unspoken agreement that they’d keep anything beyond friendship hidden—from themselves, from one another, from everyone else.
Most especially from everyone else.
They'd learned early on that it wasn't worth the strife. It wasn't worth the fight. Any resistance had been squashed down time and again. Somehow, this felt easier. Less painful.
If it was up to the two of them, perhaps things would be different. Perhaps they’d have tried at love and failed, and moved on by now. Or perhaps they would have tried and it would have been easy. Smooth.
Perhaps there would be no confusion or jealousy or hiding. No dismissing their closeness as nothing more than echo of a childhood friendship, no stinging comments on who the other had stepped out with—the slights used both as a weapon and a protection to guard their tender hearts.
But as it was, Clara and Isiah had never been given a proper chance at something more. A boundary had been set for them at the outset, a series of orders they’d both been too young to fight at the time. They’d been at the mercy of the powers that be, and even though they were older now, they were still at the mercy of that power.
Or maybe they still danced around the boundary because it felt easier, somehow safer for them both to keep that prescribed distance between them.
“Perhaps I am destined for tragedy, Isiah.” Clara mused. “Or simply to be alone. Unloved for eternity.”
“You’re not alone, love.” Isiah reached for the hand he’d dropped only moments before. “I’m right here.”
“And you know I love you," he added as Clara curled toward him, resting her head against his chest.
Clara sighed and nodded.
“I love you, too,” she added, and Isiah’s chest fell with the breath he’d been holding.
“Can we not just pretend that’s enough?” Clara asked. “Just for tonight?”
They were dangerous questions and Clara asked them without turning to observe Isiah’s face. She could feel the tenseness of his body beneath her, the fear her questions provoked.
“Like it’s just us in the world and no one else?” she tried, a question and a wish because the house was empty and the roof was dark and it was unlikely they’d be caught.
Isiah feared that a little, but more than he feared getting caught—for they’d successfully explained away so much over the years and he had no doubt they could manage it again—Isiah feared the two of them getting caught up in things. He feared getting caught up in the true feelings between them, the ones they’d so carefully worked to keep a hold on all of these years, a carefully manicured relationship that allowed them to be close, but not so close that they fell over the edge.
For even though Isiah dated other girls, and even though Clara insisted that Isiah Jesus was just a friend, they both knew there was something more between them. A magnetic pull, something in their hearts that they both knew to be true love.
In the moments when the two of them could be honest with each other, when the rest of the world fell away...on nights like tonight, it wasn’t especially unusual for their lips to meet. It wasn’t unusual for Clara’s hopelessly romantic naïveté to make a showing. For some part of her to feel that it could be easy. That it could work.
And it wasn’t unusual for Isiah to agree. For every part of him to want the very thing they spent the bulk of their days denying and shutting down.
They were both craving it now though, both barely able to remember why they ever did hold back. It was just the two of them there on the roof beneath a blanket of smog-covered stars, both of them still hazy around the edges due to the whiskey and the heat and the memory of their kiss, the memory of his hands on the back of her neck.
Those things made it easy to hope. They made it easy to forget.
Because if they were surrounded by friends at the Garrison or out at Arrow House or under the watchful eye of a Blinder, Clara and Isiah wouldn’t even entertain the thought that they could be more than friends. Under those circumstances, they’d be easily convinced that regardless of the feelings between them, it was much too complicated, much too difficult.
“Maybe we should just run away. Find a place in the world where there are stars in the sky and no Shelbys.”
Isiah snorted. “Not even you?”
“Well, just me,” Clara amended. “Just me and you and no one else we've ever met. It could be easy.”
“Maybe,” Isiah hummed, his hand tilting Clara’s face up to his as he spoke. “but the course of true love never did run smooth, Clara Shelby”
“A Midsummer Night’s—” Clara started, only for the rest of the play’s title to be caught up by Isiah’s lips.
They both knew it wasn’t a good idea, dabbling in love when neither was ready to commit to the war it would be. Neither was quite ready for the consequences of them moving beyond friendship, moving against her family’s wishes and decrees, but they let it happen anyway, some piece of their hearts holding on to the hope that someday they wouldn’t be hiding on a rooftop, stealing hungry kisses in the dark.

Italy has been their safe space.
These past couple of months have been nothing but the bliss and relaxation that they’ve been needing for the past two years of being on tour—for the past 14 years of their career in the band. This is by far the longest break they’ve taken from performing on stage, interviews—from the rest of the world.
Since going on their second honeymoon, the couple has kept a low profile traveling to some of their favorite places: walking along the beaches in Jamaica, getting tipsy at their favorite karaoke bars (before they got pregnant) in Tokyo, and going to see Swan Lake at the Royal Opera House in London.
But since discovering that baby Styles was growing in YN’s belly, they’ve decided to momentarily pause their travels in Rome. When the time comes, they’ll travel back to England where their baby will be born. Their baby is an Englishman, through and through.
Being the dutiful husband that he is, Harry has been running errands while his wife sits at home to keep her growing belly away from the watchful eyes of paps and fans, seems like a must. Still undecided about when to share their news with the rest of the world, YN keeps herself busy with things like making music or reading to her belly.
She humors Harry with her pregnancy milestones. Like the time she called him into the shower to let him know that she officially can’t see her toes anymore (which led him having to put her socks on for her). Or the time they were watching a movie on the couch and she suddenly wondered if she could still do the splits with her baby belly. He watched with a humored smile at her impromptu demonstration and laughed when she wondered if she could still twerk too. After finding out she still could, he told her to be careful because “that’s how you got pregnant in the first place.”
So as much as he doesn’t mind running errands, he can’t help but wish that his love was beside him. Call him lovesick, but when hasn’t he been?
Before he’s ready to take off, he taps his jean pockets before calling out to his wife, “Babe!”
“Yeah?” Her voice comes from somewhere upstairs.
“Have y’seen my keys?”
“Yeah, up here!”
When he enters their bedroom, he stops in his tracks. He sees her sitting on the end of the bed in a sports bar and her jeans unbuttoned as she bends over to tie her shoelaces—well, trying to.
“Hey, hey,” Harry quickly goes to her struggling fingers and begins tying the laces himself. “Be careful, my love. Squishing my baby in there.”
“Yeah well, tell yeh baby that is he could stop pressing down on me bladder,” YN plops down on the bed behind her with a huff, her arms spread out. “I’d really appreciate that.”
“She can’t help it, darlin’.” One of the many late night conversations (debates) they’ve been having lately is what they think their baby is going to be. Harry’s wishing for a girl while YN’s very adamant about them having a boy. “She’s growing big and strong in there,” He places his hands gently on her belly and coos, “It’s that right, my sweet girl?”
“Stop,” She laughs once his kisses on her taut skin begin to tickle from his facial hair. She pushes his head away with a playful shove, “Stop, you’re smothering him.”
Once he’s finished securing the laces into a bow, he stops to question, “You gonna take a walk around the garden again, baby?”
Being housebound by choice can come with its downsides. So to avoid the inevitable cabin fever that has already begun to bubble up inside of her, one of the ways she keeps herself sane is taking walks around their private villa. There’s truly nothing like strolling around the property filled with giant trees, bushes with various flowers growing the perimeter, and feeling the summer sun on her skin.
The time off has been very much needed, but if she were speaking freely, she has to admit that she’s getting bored.
YN lifts up her hands towards her husband and he gently helps her stand up on her feet.
“No. M’joining you today.”
Her words make him physically pause.
“You sure?” He hesitates. As much as the thought of having her by his side again excites him, nothing is more important than making sure that she’s comfortable. With her going out, it increases the possibility that someone can not only recognize the two, but figure out that her belly is getting bigger with their child growing.
They aren’t ready to share the news with the rest of the world yet, but when they do find out, it's going to be on their terms.
“Yeah. I want to.” She puts her hands on her belly and the smile she gives him is enough reassurance, as is. “Wearing one of yeh hoodies can be big enough to cover him. And as long as I don’t hug anyone, I think I’ll be alright.”
He leans down to press a kiss to her lips, sealing the deal. Before he pulls away, he mumbles against her lips, “Her.”
“Just go get my bag, Styles,” she laughs, eyes squeezing shut when he feverishly presses kisses into the crook of her neck.
And oh how the fans immediately take notice—not of her belly, but of how sweet Harry’s being on her. It’s been a while since the people have seen him with his other half and if they didn’t know any better, it seemed like he hadn’t seen her altogether in weeks. He constantly has an arm around the tops of her shoulders and will press a kiss into her hair when walking down the cobblestone pathways. The one time he lets go of her hand is to buy her a small bouquet of flowers from the local vendor. And it would be silly of Harry not to see his wife’s pregnancy cravings kicking in when they pass by a gelato shop. And it would also be silly to be surprised when he has to switch cones with her when she suddenly likes his flavor better.
And there's something so glowly, so radiant about her that the people can't quite put their finger on it.
After putting their errand bags in the car—they almost forgot the reason for going out—Harry goes to open the door for his wife but pauses when he sees the look on her face. He sees how her eyes scan to somewhere in the distance with the tiniest furrow of her brows, her eyes beginning to squint. He doesn’t even try to hide the amused look on his face and instead leans a forearm on the vehicle as he patiently waits for what’s to come. Her nostrils widen a bit, “Do you smell pastrami?”
Harry can’t hold back his laugh. Being in shape for a two-year long world tour was a must. Since then, the couple has maintained a fairly healthy lifestyle—moreso Harry while YN still likes to enjoy a bit of junk food every now and then. Yet, it’s been a while since she’s indulged in something like a beefy, greasy sandwich.
Yup, definitely pregnancy cravings.
The inevitable comes sooner than later as they turn their attention towards the two ladies saying their names. Harry—already taking in a breath to gently decline the request to take a picture with the two fans—is interrupted by YN’s sweet acceptance.
The couple stands behind the two ladies as they take a group selfie. Thankfully, YN has her flowers to discreetly hold in front of her belly as she gives the camera a smile. But before they depart, YN asks them where’s the best place to get a pastrami sandwich in the area.
Yeah, pregnancy cravings for sure.

You had once hoped you would marry for love or at least find love in an arranged marriage like your mamma and papa. A kind of love that starts with a spark and grows into a small flame. That same flame can light a candle, a fireplace, if big enough it can even engulf entire cities. You hoped that someone would burn for but Mr. Norris didn’t love you. He wanted you. Like some prized possession to show off. The governor’s daughter, Lady Y/n Knightley. Diamond among the ladies of Jamaica. You wanted nothing more than to reject Mr. Norris’ advances but he insisted to your father that he was the perfect match. There was no persuading you. Once your father made up his mind there was nothing that could convince him otherwise. Your only plan to escape this marriage was to escape. Literally. You couldn’t bear the thought of looking that man in the face and pretending to like him. You had to run away.
You had packed a sack of a few items days before. Stealing hard cheeses, apples and bread in case you fell victim to food shortage. You weren’t quite sure how you would leave Port Royal, only that you would need to trespass on to a ship.
The next morning you woke up early, stars still in the sky, everyone else still asleep at this hour. You grabbed your sack and headed out the back door, careful to not come across any servants that were preparing breakfast.
Down at the harbour you noticed a ship, not too big, not too small. You saw that you were alone and took the illusion to hop on board, nearly losing your baggage to the ocean. It was quiet and only a few members of the crew paced the decks as they were getting ready to leave. You had gotten onto the ship without notice and prayed you wouldn’t attract notice until their next stop.
It was fiction if you believed that was what would happen.
“And who are you?” A voice sounded from above, grabbing you by the biceps with such force he almost lifted you up. “A ship hopper ey? Up you get. You’re gonna see the captain.”
You tried escaping him but his grasp was too tight. It had only been a few hours since you left shore and already you had been found.
“Please,” you tried wiggling. “Please I swear I’m not up to anything!”
“Tell that to ‘er.’ He said, throwing your forwards makes you stumble. Eye to eyes with a pair of black boots.
Looking up you saw the captain. A woman. She had long curly brown hair, hazel eyes. Such pretty eyes
“What are you doing on my ship?” Cockney accent, London, great you knew the ton in London perhaps it could help???
You stayed silent scared you might make yourself a fool.
“We can’t have ‘er on board, Nell.” The same man said. “Bad luck to ‘ave women on board.”
“Rupert, I literally have tits. You know that.”
“You’re different, Captain, same goes for the others on board. But she’s a real lady.”
She furrowed her eyebrows in response. “Are you saying I’m not a real lady?”
Rupert noticed the dominating tone. That he had pissed her off. He lowered his head and stepped back with a firm “Sorry, Ma’am.”
She turned around to face you, the sunset rising behind her making her look extraordinary. “What’s your name?”
“Y/n. Y/n Knightley.”
“And why is Y/n Knightley on my ship?”
“I had to run away, Captain.”
“From what?”
‘Marriage.”
“Understandable.”
“What?”
“What?” She repeated. “Understandably so. I myself don’t really understand it either. My name’s Nell Jackson by the way. Everyone calls me Captain, Ma’am or Nell.”
You nodded.
“But don’t call me Nellie.” She shook her head. “Don’t like that.”
“Yes, Captain.” You said with such uncertainty it sounded like a question, gathering sly laughter from the crew around you.
“Enough mesmerising our new ruby on board,” she called out. “Back to work ladies and gentlemen! You-,” she pointed at you, “with me.”
Everyone left at her command so you followed her to her office, still lit by the candles she used that night. Her office space was tidy except for the desk that bore many maps and figurines of ships.
“Are you a pirate?” You asked without thinking.
“Why yes I am.” She smiled as if you had just given her a compliment.
“You didn’t even try to hide it.”
“Why would I? I take pride in being captain of my very own crew and ship. Wouldn’t you?”
“I wouldn’t know.” You paced around the room, looking at various artefacts. “I’ve never really owned anything except for a baby lamb once. Then my father ate it.”
Her round eyes almost popped out of her skull. “How sweet,” she cleared her throat. “Look,” she came closer. “I don’t mind having you onboard as long as you follow my rules, okay?”
“Okay.”
“Good. Now go ask Roxy to show you the food storage so you can have a proper meal and come back to me when you’re done.
“Thank you, Nell.”
“Go on.”
You had decided that night that you would stay on board for as long as Nell allowed it. You grew fond of her and you thought she did the same. She treated you differently from the other woman on board. Like she cared differently…
The red dress that Nell gifted you when she visited Tortuga on business fit you like a glove. It fit your chest and arms perfectly, supporting your chest yet loose past your ribs giving you free space to move about. It was perfect.
The night grew mild as the hot temperatures dropped to a more appropriate level, the night sky full of stars as the pale moonlight hit the deck. You felt like dancing. You didn’t know why or how but simply because. Taking off your shoes, you twirled into the middle of the deck as you started to lift your feet off the ground to an imaginary beat. The other’s simply stared , wondering if you were well. Your hair ribbon loosened leaving your hair flowing in the fresh air of the Caribbean. “I feel alive.” You giggled, beaming at the crew as you tried to convince them to join you. “Come on, Will!” You took his hands, pulling him in with no success.
Soon after more women and men started to join you. Simply letting the stress of tomorrow be stress for tomorrow.
A bottle of rum was being passed around, taking multiple big swigs yourself, you let the burning sensation work its magic.
Nell joined in and took sips of rum, danced, had fun.
Turning about the deck you came opposite Nell. Taking her hands you spun in circles for as long as you could without getting sick. Stumbling away from the rest you both let out a laugh as the candle light stopped illuminating. You could only see the twinkle of the stars in her eyes as you got closer. Her eyes the most remarkable shade of hazel, her eyes so big one could only stare. Heat arose from your stomach to your chest. Her lips were getting closer and your heart skipped a beat. You couldn’t move, like you were hypnotised. Your heart pounded, your knees grew weaker. The empty void that filled the space between your bodies slowly grew as she stepped even closer. Neither of you said anything. You knew what you wanted.
Your whole body tingled, the feeling of her frame leaning on yours, as Nell’s arms wrapped around you felt nearly forbidden. Her lips brushed against yours, softly, delicately, like you were a porcelain figure, one crack away from falling to pieces and being broken forever. You could only focus on how soft she felt against your mouth, how addictively she invaded all your senses. She kissed you long enough that she could inhale your breath, feel the warmth of your skin, and the taste of sea salt on your lips that would linger far after you had gone.
Realising what you had done you pulled away, squinting in embarrassment as you let out deep breaths. “I’m sorry, I don’t know what came over me I—‘
‘—Don’t apologise for kissing me,’ Nell mumbled, placing her hands on your face, placing her lips back onto yours this time more rough. Like you were the air she breathed. The planet she rotated around. She wanted to kiss you and never stop.
Nell gently grabbed your chin, slowly pulling back from the kiss, deep down not wanting to break apart from you again. “Never apologise for kissing me again, Y/n.”
“Duly noted. O captain, my captain, kiss me again.” You giggled as you caught her lips again, throwing your arms around her neck.

THE NEXT DAY
"Our baby is big as a lemon right now. At this stage, our baby's intestines and vocal cords are developing. Tiny bones are also beginning to form in the arms and legs. This is so fascinating" Jenna gushed as she leaned more into your side.
You were currently focused on the intense game of baseball as your feet were propped on your coffee table. The two of you were enjoying each other's company until Jenna had to leave for London to film Beetlejuice 2 later tonight.
"Are we going to have a baby shower?" You asked.
"Yeah just a small one though and a little more into my pregnancy, maybe when I'm around 30 weeks" Jenna answered.
You nodded at your girlfriend. Your attention is then stolen by the Yankees vs. Padres baseball game on the TV. Jenna continued looking at the information the pregnancy app provided on her phone. Suddenly, the buzzer to your apartment goes off. You go to the buzzer, "Who is it?"
"Yuh Mada" Delyse responded. You buzz your mother in and unlock the door so she can come in. You then sat back down next to Jenna. A few minutes later, Del burst into the apartment with multiple bags in her hands.
You sighed, "Ma what is all that?"
"Nothing for you, some of this is for Jenna and...maybe the baby. Anyway, Jenna since you are leaving tonight I packed you a little pregnancy kit. I got you some prenatal vitamins, ginger & peppermint for any nausea you may get, and raspberry leaves for your iron and it can increase milk production if you decide to breastfeed" Del listed off.
Jenna's heart swelled at your mother's thoughtfulness, "Thank you so much Ms. Delyse. I appreciate this."
"Oh sweetie, us mothers have to stick together and watch over one another" Del smiled at the young woman.
"Do I get anything?" You ask.
"You get a non-cranky baby mother" Del replied to you.
You playfully glare at your mother. Del handed Jenna the bag of her stuff and sat opposite the couple. The buzzer to your apartment goes off again. You groan in frustration and confusion about who it could be.
"Who is it?" You asked.
"Davis" Davis answered. You buzzed him in and sat in your spot again. Soon after, Davis walks in with a flyer in his hand.
"Hey, Ms. Del I haven't seen you in a minute. How was Jamaica?" Davis asked.
"Wonderful. I needed that vacation" Del answered.
"I feel that. I need a vacation too. I haven't been on one in months" Davis said and sat in the empty spot next to you and Jenna.
"We should plan to go to the Bahamas" You suggest.
"Oh let's do it I've always wanted to go to the Bahamas," Davis said.
You then notice the flyer in his hand, "What's that?"
"Oh, that's why I came over here. This is a music competition, winner gets a five million dollar record deal with Passion Records. I saw that Twitter video of you singing, you should sign up" Davis proposed.
"Nah I'm good" You declined.
Davis looked at you in shock, "What? Why not?"
"I don't wanna be under another label. I've done it before and it went sideways. I don't want people telling me what music to make or getting the majority of the money I worked hard for" You explained and shrugged your shoulders.
"But it can expose you to different opportunities so you can propel yourself properly in the industry. You don't have to stay under a label forever" Davis said.
You sighed, "I don't know I'll think about it."
"Well, you better think about it sooner than later. The deadline to submit your demo is in two weeks" Davis informed you and handed you the flyer.
You read over it and the information on the paper. Submission deadline ends on June 15th at 11:59 pm. Any type of music is accepted but it has to be under three minutes. Five million dollar record label with Passion Records. You heard about the label, but before signing with the local one, you tried numerous times to get a rep. to listen to your music. You never got a response from them. But now you have a chance to finally pursue your dream of being a global sensation in music. A dream you've had since you were 8 and went to your first concert.
Maybe it would be a great opportunity.
"We still going to the courts around 1?" Davis asked.
"Oh yeah, I almost forgot about that. Sisqo owes me my $50 from the last game" You said.
"What's the courts?" Jenna questioned.
"Basketball courts around the corner from her. Me and Davis always play a pickup game with some friends from the block every Friday" You answered.
"Oh, can I come?" Jenna asked.
"Of course. You can see me whoop some ass in basketball" You smirked.
🤰🏻🩵
"Jah!" You heard Davis yell from your right. Your eyes glance at Davis who was getting pressed by his defender. You knew if you passed it to him, he was either going to lose the ball or shoot and miss. You were down by 2 and if the other team scored it was game over. You had to play smart.
You pass it to Davis but you sprinted behind him to shake your defender. You were successful and got to the corner where Davis passed it to you. You caught it and immediately shot a three. You watched as it swished in the net, winning you the game.
"Yeah, buddy!" You exclaimed excitedly.
Jenna clapped and cheered on the sidelines while you and Davis dapped each other up. She sat back down in her seat while you started talking to the other team. She was surprised she even sat through the whole basketball game. She was more into soccer than any other sport but pick-up basketball was entertaining.
"Mind if I sit here?" A soft voice brought Jenna out of her thoughts. She looked to her right and saw an angelic woman. She looked like a Disney princess.
"No, no go for it" Jenna smiled. She grabbed her book from beside her but she felt eyes burning into the side of her head. She looked and saw the woman staring at her with recognition in her eyes.
"My apologies for staring at you but I love your work. Wednesday is currently my favorite series right now. You also did your thing in the Scream movies" The woman complimented.
"Thank you so much" Jenna gave the woman another smile.
"You know I never expected to run into you in the Bronx. This is the last place I ever thought" The woman chuckled.
Jenna nervously chuckled, "Yeah...just hanging and watching some basketball."
She didn't want to deal with a fan's pressing questions. She knew she should've put her disguise on. But luckily, Jenna relaxed a little when she saw you look at the woman with recognition in her eyes. Jenna watched as you tapped Davis rapidly on his arm and pointed toward the bleachers.
"Yo Diana, I ain't know you were gon' be here" You smiled and gave her a side hug.
Davis, on the other hand, was staring at her like a lovesick puppy.
"Yeah I was just walking by and I saw the two of you. Thought I'd stop and say hello...hey Davis" Diana smiled at Davis.
"H-Hey Diana" Davis nervously waved back.
You and Jenna smirked at each other while watching. Davis is a nervous mess in front of Diana.
"Oh Jenna, this is Diana, Diana this is Jenna. The three of us went to school together along with her twin sister Stacey" You said.
At the mention of the name Stacey, jealousy flushed through her as she remembered the night of the Met Gala. The beautiful girl that was attached to your hip like glue all night, posting you any chance she got.
"How is Stacey?" You asked.
"Good. She went back to Spelman last week but she'll be back for summer break" Diana told you. You nodded, took a sip of your water, and sat in front of Jenna.
"Word? I ain't know she got into Spelman. What is she going for?" You asked.
"Major in Music and minor in Theatre & Performance. Same as me just at a different school" Diana answered.
Unconsciously, you leaned back in between Jenna's legs. She placed her head on top of yours and her arms on your shoulders.
Diana smirked, "Y'all are cute together."
"I'm cute all the time" You playfully said.
"Mhmm I don't know about that. You have your moments" Jenna commented.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa you gon' do me like that babe. That's wild" You exclaimed.
"All I said was you have your moments. We got our moments too" Jenna defended playfully. Diana let out a giggle at the two of you.
"Speaking of cute, you should holla at Davis. Don't think I don't see the way you keep glancing over at him" You smirk.
"Uh...I don't know. I just got out of a relationship, a bad one at that. I don't think I'm ready for another one just yet" Diana vacillated.
"You don't have to jump into another relationship. I'm just saying to you know talk to him and become friends. But if you don't wanna do it, that's fine I'm not gonna force you or anything" You said.
Diana glanced at Davis again who looked up this time from his bag and smiled at her. She looked down to hide the blush that appeared on her cheeks. She then went into her purse and grabbed a piece of paper and a pen. She wrote her number and walked down the bleaches.
"I have to go but call me whenever you aren't busy" Diana smiled at him and placed the paper in his hands. She gave him a quick kiss on the cheek before walking off the court.
"I'm the best wingwoman ever aren't I" You smiled.
"Uh I've seen better" Jenna shrugged.
You suck your teeth as she laughed, "You a hater bruh."

"Tap, tap, and then we lock our middle fingers. End it off with a fist bump and touch thumbs" You explain to Jenna and demonstrate the handshake you guys just came up with. The two of you came back from the basketball courts and went back to Jenna's hotel room so the actress could finish packing.
"I don't want to leave" Jenna pouted as the both of you sat on the floor against her bed. It was getting closer to the time for Jenna to leave for the airport and she was having a hard time. The both of you were really, you just kept to yourself.
"You could always call me you know. No matter the time, I'll always pick up for you" You said sincerely.
Truth be told, it was nice to finally have someone around. Someone new.
“You'll pick up at any time?" Jenna questioned amused.
"Yep. I'm an insomniac so 9 times out of ten I'll be up doing absolutely nothing productive" You chuckled.
Jenna giggled, "I'm going hold you to that."
The two of them sat in a comfortable silence looking out at the sun setting sky. Neither of you uttered a word but your eyes slowly drifted to the woman next to you. The orange color bounced off her skin beautifully, making her freckles pop even more than before. You've seen your fair share of beautiful women but nothing compared to her.
"Take a picture it'll last longer" Jenna spoke softly.
You pulled your phone and quickly captured a picture of the actress.
Jenna chuckled, "No way, you actually took a picture."
"You told me too. Now, I have an exclusive picture of Jenna Ortega. Should I sell it to these paparazzi weirdos?" You joked.
"Do it. I bet you'll make a fortune" Jenna replied.
Suddenly, a ding is heard from Jenna's phone. She grabbed it from the nightstand and sighed as she looked at the person who texted her.
Nancy The Manager: we're outside
Jenna pouted as she read the message. She was hoping she got at least another hour with you but the universe didn't want to lift her spirits.
"They're here" Jenna grumbled.
You stood up from the floor and slipped on your slides. You grabbed her bags and Jenna got her airport outfit on. She checked to make sure she had everything before the two of you walked to the elevator.
After the elevator takes you to the hotel parking garage, you help place her bags in the trunk before you turn to her.
"I'm going to miss you" Jenna sniffled.
"Imma miss you too Hollywood" You pouted. The two of you hug each other tightly, not wanting to let go. But before she left, you bent down to be level with her small protruding stomach.
"Aight listen, it's just gon' be you and momma for a couple of months. You two take care of each other, if she is overworking herself, you better tell her to sit her ass down somewhere" You added, "Mama loves you and I'll be waiting here for the both of you to come back." You kiss her stomach and stand up.
"Why would you do that? Now I'm crying" Jenna cried and tried to wipe the tears from her eyes.
You chuckled, "I just to let it be known."
Jenna wiped the tears from her face and climbed into the SUV.
"Call or text whenever you land," You said.
"I will" Jenna reassured.
You then step back from the SUV. Big L climbs into the driver's side and after a moment pulls off. Jenna blew you a kiss which you caught and you waited until you couldn't see them anymore to walk to your car and eventually left the hotel.
The journey to the airport was a quiet one. Jenna was scrolling through her social media, which is rare for the girl. Music was blasting in her ears as she didn't want to engage with anyone, especially Hudson. She was still furious with the male after the stunt he pulled with her family. She didn't even spare him a glance as she got into the SUV, which stung him a little.
After almost an hour, Jenna finally arrived at Teterboro Airport. She was flying private this time and she didn't know why but she was secretly thankful that she didn't have to deal with the regular airport this time.
Everyone checked in and was walking to the private jet. It was small and nothing too extravagant which she liked. She just wanted to get from point A to point B safely.
The young actress was the first to step onto the plane but halted in her steps as she came face to face with someone she didn't want to see.
"Ah, nice to see you again Jenna. It's been a long time" Corneilo smiled at the girl.
Jenna looked behind her at Nancy and Hudson and saw the same shocked look on their faces.
"Please settle down and let's prepare for take-off," Neil said and pointed to the seat in front of him.
Jenna hesitated before slowly sitting in the seat in front of him, "You usually don't do in-person meetings."
"Yeah, but we have much to discuss. Things that couldn't be said over a video chat" Neil shrugged.
Nancy and Hudson hurriedly took a seat behind the two. Jenna was on edge, she was tense in her seat and she wanted nothing more than to be in your comfort again.
"Champagne?" Neil offered.
"No I'm good" Jenna declined.
The Cuban man nodded and down his glass of champagne before pouring himself another.
"What do we have to discuss?" Jenna asked impatiently.
Neil grinned, "I'm sure you know Jenna."
Jenna unconsciously hooked her arms around her stomach. She knew the man in front of her was unpredictable, she needed to be on guard the whole time.
"Do you remember why the court signed that paper Jenna?" Neil questioned.
"Because they wanted to keep the tradition going of a man ruling over a woman's life" Jenna retorted.
Neil let out a breathy laugh, "No...it's because you're reckless. That paper was designed to save you. Save you from the destructive road you were speeding down. The same road you found yourself back on."
Jenna didn't respond to him, just glared at him.
"20 years old and pregnant with a child by a talentless rat from the hood at the top of her career. Do you know how that makes me look? That I can't keep my clients in check because they do whatever they want to" Neil hissed.
"I care less about how it makes you look" Jenna snapped at the older man.
This makes Neil snap, at the speed of lighting he reaches over the table and grabs Jenna by her throat. Jenna tried to pull his hand away from her but was unsuccessful.
"You seem to forget who's in charge here. I'm the one in charge. I have the final say in what you can and cannot do, and who you can and cannot be with. I own you, Jenna. So when I tell you to jump, you ask how high. No sassy comeback, no attitude. Nothing." Neil snarled.
“Let her go Neil” Hudson glared at the older boy.
Neil’s eyes then snapped to Hudson. He let go of Jenna who was breathing heavily with tears running down her face. The older male then made his way to Hudson. He stopped just a breath away from him.
“Little Hudson Maverick, rich daddy’s boy that doesn’t know when to mind his business. A flaw of his that’s going to get him into some trouble in the future. How is mommy doing by the way? She still seeing that private exercise trainer on Thursdays and Saturdays during your father’s meetings?” Neil taunted the boy.
Nancy stood up from her seat, “That’s enough Corneilo.”
Neil then turned to look at the woman with a smirk on his face. He opens his mouth to say something but an alarm goes off on his watch.
“Hmph, dodge a bullet there Nancy” Neil commented. He smoothed out his suit and looked at them with a smile, "Enjoy the flight." He then left the private jet.
Once he left, Nancy slid next to Jenna. The young actress then gripped her shirt as she sobbed into her side.
a/n: y’all going to hate me…and possibly not hate me a little bit after 🙂

Masterlist
As soon as The Daggers were back from the Uranium Mission Maverick proposed to Penny and it was an instant yes. He loved her and she loved him. There was no way she was gonna say no and that made him smile. They spent a year being engaged and they finally married on the beach right in front of The Hard Deck. The ceremony was beautiful, it was done right at sunset when the sun was going down over the horizon with a soft breeze that moved her dress and her bridesmaid’s dresses. Amelia was Penny’s maid of honor and Bradley was the best man, they took getting the ceremony perfect seriously and they did not disappoint.
When the wedding was over the reception was taken inside of The Hard Deck but it had spilled out onto the beach. It was perfect all the way around. As the night was winding down, they pulled Ameila over to the side and had a conversation with her. “Congratulations to you both! I’m so happy to have you as a father, Mav.” Amelia said and that brought a smile to his face.
“I’m happy to have you as a daughter. Speaking of kids.” He trailed off and she got a look of excitement on her face.
“Wait, is mom pregnant?” She asked and they both laughed but shook their heads.
“No, honey but we were wondering how you would feel if another kid was brought into this family.” Penny asked
“Yes! A little sibling would be great, especially a little sister.” She said looking at them and smiled.
“We just wanted to clear it with you before we started to try.” Mav said and she smiled.
“Thank you. Thank you for asking me and making my mom happy.” She said to Mav while hugging him.
“Of course, you girls mean the world to me and this baby will too.” Maverick said
The rest of the night went without a hitch and now they were being shipped off to their honeymoon in Jamaica.
They got pregnant on their first try which was on the last day of their honeymoon. Which was a surprise but it was not unwelcomed. They found out officially a week later and were ecstatic. After the first trimester they were comfortable with telling everyone and they were so happy for them that it was unreal. The two that were probably more excited than the parents were Ameila and Bradley.
9 months later they were welcoming a beautiful healthy baby girl, Y/N Y/M/N Mitchell aka you, into their lives. Penny was a little jealous, not really, that you were the spitting image of her father but was actually happy that Maverick got his mini me and she just knew that you both were going to be trouble together and boy was she right but she had it handled. After all she has put up with Maverick this long.
3 years later you were running around and wreaking havoc but they wouldn’t have any other way. Amelia had gone away to college just a state over and you missed her dearly. Your parents made sure to keep you busy and you had weekly phone calls with your older sister and sometimes Skype sessions. Most of the time your dad was with you so it was you and him having the same guilty look on both of your faces as your mother scolded you both. After she was done scolding you both would have that signature Mitchell smirk on your face and she couldn’t help rolling her eyes and smile while shaking her head. You loved copying your dad in whatever he did, whether that be mimicking his actions or pulling pranks on people. You admired him and never wanted to let him down.
Since Maverick was getting older, he had planned on working out more to stay in top physical shape. The Daggers had planned on working out after work and Penny had planned on picking you up from the daycare on base but something had happened in the bar that needed her assistance. Maverick had just finished his paperwork for the day when his phone started to ring, he looked at the caller ID and saw that it was his wife.
“Hey beautiful.” He said and that made Penny smile.
“Hey something came up at the bar. Can you pick up Y/N/N and take her to the gym with you and bring her home?” She asked and he smiled.
“Of course, everyone is gonna love seeing her.” He said
“I know she is going to love seeing Bradley.” She said and they both chuckled. You did love Bradley but that wasn’t a surprise to anyone after all he was your big brother. “I’ll see you both at home.” She said
“Yes, you will. I love you.” Maverick said
“I love you too.” Penny said and then they both hung up the phone.
Maverick packed his stuff up and walked out of his office making sure he had his keys, phone, and other things he needed. As he was walking out, he had run into The Daggers. “You headed to the gym, Pops?” Jake asked.
“I am but first I need to go and pick up Y/N.” He said and everyone got happy.
“Oh, Y/N is going to be joining us?” Bob asked and Maverick nodded.
“Yup, something came up at the bar that needed Penny’s attention.” Maverick said “Now, if you excuse me. I need to go and pick up my child.” He said and everyone nodded and then he was on his way.
He reached the daycare pretty quickly and walked in and up to the desk. The receptionist smiled “Admiral Mitchell! Here to pick up Y/N?” She asked.
“Hi, Brittnay. Yes, I am here to pick her up.” He said and she smiled.
“Great! Just sign the sheet and I’ll go and get her.” She said and he nodded. As he was signing the sheet, he could hear his child’s laughter and he smiled. Once he was done, he put down the pen and turned out just in time to see you come prancing down the hallway, you were chatting away with Brittany about nothing really. When you saw your dad, you smiled.
“Dada!” You shouted and hurried to him and he picked you up.
“Hi, Sweetheart.” He said and you threw your arms around him. “Did you have a good day?” He asked and you nodded. He thanked Brittnay and then he was on his way. “You wanna go and see Bradley?” He asked and you lit up.
“Bubba?” You asked and he smiled. You had started calling him that when you saw him and could speak.
“Yea, Bubba.” He said and you squealed. On the way to the gym, you were pointing out things and he would confirm them. When he reached the gym, he opened the door and saw that everyone had already started.
“Bubba!” You shouted when you saw Bradley and he looked up and smiled and walked over to you.
“Hey there, Munchkin. You have a good day?” He asked and you nodded and you made grabby hands for him and he took you.
“Sweetheart, you stay with Bradley while I go and get changed. Ok?” He asked and you nodded and watched him leave. Bradley had moved over back to where he was working out and you were looking at everyone in awe. Not even 4 minutes later Maverick was coming out and joining you and Bradley.
“Dada.” You said and he smiled and bent down and kissed you which made you giggle. He picked up a weight and started to do some lifting and you watched him carefully. You stood up and walked over to the weights and Bradley took notice of this. He walked over and found the 1 lb weight and handed it to you and you smiled and took it from him. He got his phone out and turned it to his camera and got the video ready, Penny was gonna love this.
You watched Maverick and started to copy his moves while having the most intense look of concentration on your face. Everyone started to awe and chuckle. Maverick looked over wondering what was going on and Nat pointed at you and he looked over and smiled. “Are you copying daddy?” He asked and you looked up at him and smiled.
“Dada.” You said and he chuckled after a minute or so Bradley stopped recording and sent it to Penny. The rest of the time at the gym you spent copying Maverick or someone else and they were eating it up. By the time everyone was done, showered, and ready to go you were exhausted. Nat was done the quickest and stayed with you until Maverick was done getting refreshed. He walked out and thanked her and then was picking you up and heading home.
When you got home Maverick quickly parked and shut off the engine and then unloaded you. Penny had already been home and had supper cooking. “Mama!” You yelled out when you walked through the door and she smiled.
“Hi, Baby Girl.” She said and took you from Maverick “Did you have a good day with daddy?” She asked and you nodded.
“Bubba.” You said and she smiled.
“Did you get to see Bubba?” She asked and you nodded and she kissed the side of your head. “Supper will be ready soon.” She said Maverick nodded and kissed her. Maverick made busy with you while Penny finished supper. “I saw the video Bradley sent.” She said turning the stove off and grabbing plates while fixing them up, first she brought yours and his and then got hers.
“What did you think?” He asked while he ate and fed you.
“It was adorable.” She said
“She just went over the weight selection and I’m assuming Bradley helped her pick a very light weight one.” He said
“Bubba?” You asked when you heard Bradley’s name.
“Yea Bubba helped, didn’t he?” Maverick asked and you picked up your fork and got a piece of food and put it in your mouth, something they had been working with you on. Supper was finished quickly and they cleaned everything up and then they gave you a bath. You were quick to go down after all you had a long and exciting day.
Penny and Maverick returned to the living room and sat down to watch some TV while you slept. As they were picking something Penny turned to Maverick “You know she is the miniature version of you, right?” She asked and he stopped and looked at her and smiled.
“Yea, I know. Just wait until she wants to be a pilot when she grows up.” He said and they chuckled.
“Knowing her and with her being just like you I fully intend on her doing so. She has too many cool aunts and uncles and let’s not forget she is surrounded by the Navy.” She said and again they chuckled then she turned serious “Just don’t pull her papers. You don’t want another Bradley incident.” She said and he grimaced.
“No, I don’t. If she wants to go there and become like her old man and her aunts and uncles, I will fully support her.” He said and Penny smiled.
“I have no doubt about that.” She said and then she turned to the TV and they picked something. They snuggled into each other and enjoyed the rest of the night together knowing you were safe and sound to sleep in your room.
If you’re anything like Maverick then the Navy better watch out because they have another Mitchell heading their way because you are going to come in strong and not stopping until you had reached the best of the best, aka Top Gun.

Queer Themes Masterlist
Colour Me Free (ao3) - realeyesrealize
Summary: Over the next few days Dan draws and redraws a tiny triangle on his bicep every morning with a sharpie, because he’s never been one to take decisions lightly, because he’s still afraid of commitment but the need to have those three lines on his skin is stronger.
Or: queer signaling, a triangle, an earring and Russia.
Come On Down To The Lavender Luck Lounge (ao3) - orphan_account
Summary: Mr. Philip Lester is the suave, flamboyant owner of a queer casino and resort, Lavender Luck Lounge. Mr. Daniel Howell is the uptight and dry accounting manager for the casino.
Demons That Dwell (ao3) - realeyesrealize
Summary: He put those feelings, along with the passing comments that were thrown his way during his teenage years in a closet, as a replacement for himself. But they happened and they left a mark.
or: phil and pride: a character study.
Edelweiss Green (ao3) - orpheusTestifies
Summary: 'The employee had given them a strange look, like it was weird for two people to have an argument about paint colors in the middle of the paint aisle. Dan, despite his attempts to repress everything about his previous employment, was absolutely confident that it was not.'
(Or, in which a house is built, improved upon, and lived in, more or less in that order.)
every ounce of me (ao3) - Tarredion
Summary: Dan and Phil being (mostly) soft on October 19th, 2009—with a bit of introspective Dan (and also him trying to avoid it)
Formless (ao3) - truerequitedlove
Summary: Dan wished he was formless.
Goalie (ao3) - kitkattaylor
Summary: The thing is, everyone thinks they know everything about Dan. They hear enough about him. But they don’t remember the boy who hid in hoodies, who was soft-spoken and embarrassed. They were never witness to his self-doubt, to his neediness, never had the privilege of seeing his genuine smile, his uninhibited laughter.
Of course Dan had changed, but Phil would be (might be) damned if he didn’t believe there was something of the boy Phil used to know still inside him.
If you wanna be like me (ao3) - ottertrashpalace
Summary: A sequel to Experience is Key in two parts, the first of which is a bit serious and the second of which is just more self-indulgent porn
in a simpler world (ao3) - possumdnp
Summary: It was never really an option to make Dil gay.
(or, “how the Sims series [and Dab and Evan’s relationship] hits differently”)
King of the Queens (ao3) - ThoughtaThought
Summary: What if Dan never messaged Phil?
Prism (ao3) - realeyesrealize
Summary: Dan's story, now in colour. A few spoilers: a dark night, Jamaica's orange, the Isle of Man's turquoise and a blue box of Domino's.
Queer Eye for the Non-Straight Guy (ao3) - adorkablephil (kimberly_a)
Summary: Dan watches "Queer Eye" Season 2 episode 1 while on the plane to America and gets emotional
Role Model (ao3) - gorgeousnerd
Summary: "It meant a lot to me," Dan said again, carefully. "You and your friends being who you were. Still does."
Dan reconnects with Nick Grimshaw after he comes out.
rules for lovers (ao3) - dabiideviito
Summary: pride colours: an interpretation
scratch bark bite (oh, love me, i lied) (ao3) - Tarredion
Summary: Music & Drama teacher Dan Howell has a well-known rivalry with his coworker, English teacher Phil Lester.
An unforeseen event flips everything Dan thought he knew about Phil and himself on its head. Slowly but surely, the grudge withers, and the two of them cross the line between enemy and friend. But what will happen when their true intents and feelings get revealed? And was what they had ever really a rivalry? Was it even mutual?
Skirting Around the Subject -- a Phil Lester Gender Struggle (ao3) - TrashFan
Summary: It started as an accident, a series of small disasters that landed Phil standing in a train station in a skirt. From there, things seemed to spiral out of control. A google search here, a shopping trip there, and suddenly Phil is left not knowing who he is and what he wants for himself.
